genuinely thank you for doing these reviews out of your own pockets. I've reached the point in my sims life where even the packs i'm *interested* in i usually pass on simply because i am exhausted from the blatant nickel & diming of the players. not sure whether it's due to deadlines or greed (or both) but the result for me has been genuine apathy for this series that i used to leave open on my PC for days at a time because i didn't want to lose any playing time to having to load the game up (i know, not good for the health of the PC lmao but that was like 10 years ago!) sigh. this series NEEDS some quality competition to humble EA. their success is one of lack of competition, clearly not product quality
Not only that, I've found that I have to go out and find other players' neighborhood builds just to have neighborhoods that look and function better. That shouldn't be something seen as necessary by players but EA builds their neighborhoods with the barest of bones and sometimes really weird architecture that sims can't even access.
@@fishkingoftheaquarium7605 Depends on people's play styles I think. For me because I do play it a lot, $40 for something I'm getting a lot of use out of seems reasonable. If someone's only likely to play it a week or two and then not touch it again it's not worth it at all.

Thanks, man. You're a welcome breath of cold water amid all the "EA Gamechanger" reviews that are like "oh, there's some issues but yes it's a great pack horses horses horses!"
This expansion is really content that should have been in Cats and Dogs or Cottage Living. Horses to be fair could be an entire expansion pack on their own, but you need more than this. A riding school option would have been nice. Teaching your horse to pull a cart perhaps. More active horse events like horse racing, show jumping and dressage etc where the player actually has some control beyond skill levels to win. Once again. EA have provided the bare minimum. It should be half the price that it is.
I miss when packs were 40 dollars in Canada. They decided to charge us American a couple years ago so now each expansion pack costs over 60 dollars with tax.
It’s funny I am getting addicted to your videos today. I have legacy play going after redownloading Sims 2 (Mac) not too long ago and have been considering getting Sims 4 as well now that it’s in a better place then initial release and I feel like I can pick and choose my packs and wait on some sales. But the main reason I want to download it is some of the cool mods that exist now. I am realizing I really like your pack reviews, even your old ones, because you ACTUALLY talk about gameplay and don’t spend forever on the CAS and Build/Buy of the packs. It’s much appreciated as I consider my investments in this game. Unlike Sims 2, where I have desired to be a completionist with all the add ons. I am very much starting at free base game for Sims 4 and being picky about packs (like I will likely never want Batu), maybe getting a few packs I am really interested in playing over time, and then moving into the mods…but your reviews have given me the insight I need on what’s worth it for my gameplay style and what’s proably not. Cause the play after making a sim and building their house is way more important to me then CAS or Build/Buy.

It's that TS4 keeps releasing so much packs focused on Build/Buy/CAS with little reviewable Gameplay that it's pointless to review.
He said he'd still do reviews on Expansion Packs. He has also expressed interests in reviewing new Simulation games, such as Life by You & Paralives - and even future Sims games as said at the end of the video.
The fact that one 10 minutes review is enough to cover everything this pack offers...
I still don't own it.
I know it's off topic but can I just say how much I appreciate LGR having really good Closed Captions on his videos, and having them as soon as the videos go live? It's a level of effort most youtubers don't go to and it's great LGR isn't, well, lazy when it comes to this
I agree, I've gotten Into the habit of turning on captions on videos even though my hearing's fine, so It's always a surprise to see CC on videos
I second this! Sometimes I just can't make out any words when people are speaking. Subtitles can mean the difference between being able to watch a video or not
I briefly turn them on at the beginning of each LGR video just to see the “_____ jazz music” caption
True! I think it's great.

I love how your expansion reviews have slowly gone from nostalgia to genuine interest, to outfight resentment lol
*Proceeds to buy it anyways*
@@firstnamelastname4249 Exactly. It amazes me how many people bXXch about the game yet buy the DLCs anyway. Why can't people just admit they like The Sims 4? Because "it's cool" to moan and complain? Obviosly a LOT of people like the game or EA would drop it like a hot potato. In fact TS4 is SO popular there are some TH-camrs who literally make a living bashing it. Every upload is just them moaning how much they hate the game that pays their bills
You people get you can't review something without trying it right?
Well, you can but it's pretty shitty to do so.
@@shayne87 Ever heard of a monopoly? People that have grown to like life simulation games most likely grew up playing the older sims games and even though EA is still doing this greedy stuff, these old fans will still buy the game despite that. There's a reason that Life by You and Paralives are being propped up currently, competition. Competition, if it poses a large enough threat to profits, usually forces a company to innovate and try new things. That of which, EA currently has no intention of doing so since they've hit a gold mine with the Sims after obtaining Maxis.
@@sorar1kukira I know what a Monopoly is. It's the board game I flip over when I'm losing. 😃My complaint is basically people moaning that "sims 2 did this and sims 3 did that and its unfair....take my money" Did these actually play sims 3? As we gaze upon the sims 3 with rose colored glasses, how soon we have forgotten the SimPoints!
The enthusiasm from LGR when they announce Sims 5 will be amazing lol
I have higher hopes for the paradox game though. They are usually pretty good and while their DLC policy also is annoying, you got way more for less in the past.
@@BouncingCowI’d agree but even their policy is far more clear and I’d say slightly better than Sims at least for CK3. The game looks to be the life sim we haven’t had on a triple A scale since Sims 3 (or 2 pending on what your bar is).
@@BouncingCow they need to come up with some dlc system that is more forgiving than EA who is like hunger succubus.

Not if it's a free to play microtransaction game, I fear 😭
Your sims reviews are way more fun than the actual game and the "still no cars" bit never disappoints 😂
I can't believe this game is nine years old now. I remember watching LGR's video for the Sims 4 Create-A-Sim demo.
This made me want to play the Sims 3 again. Time to make a horse riding Vampire that owns the town!
The horses are built on human sim-logic. My daughter showed me a video she took of her horse glitching and walking upright on its hind legs and its animation was identical to how the human sims walk. It makes sense, as the horses have intelligence and needs like the human sims, but when that particular curtain gets lifted, it's pretty hilarious.
The cats and dogs glitch out like that sometimes as well. My sim was on fire, and their dog stood upright to panic and grab the fire extinguisher. It was funny the first few times, but after 6 years, it's just annoying that it was never patched.
Can’t believe Sims 4 is 9 years old already, we can only hope next year it will be put to rest.
i agree, its been such a ride with this game.. i will miss this game when its over, and "get to gether" will always be my favorite expansion in the sims 4. S4 is not my favorite game in the franchise but ngl it does gives enjoyment on its own
😂
I love how Duke looks. He looks like he going to catch outlaws with his trusty steed.
Looks like that art where he's wearing a trenchcoat or a long leather jacket on the Zero Hour art.
@@Dukefazon i think that is an old movie. I used to watch old westerns with my dad when i was little. It reminds me of that. I like your profile picture of squall. Eight is not super popular. It is nice to see.
I read that as "seed" and it still made sense
"Damn those outlaw bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my steed!"
The older I grow the more I connect with LGR’s energy for the latest game packs. Sims 4 thrill is just gone.
I quit playing Sims 4 a year ago. It was always just boring. I've just accepted life without new Sims excitement and I'm weirdly okay with it, I'll stick to 1,2, or 3
The Sims 4 thrill was never there to begin with. It started out as an unfinished game that lacked a lot of content (open world, create-a-style, toddlers, pools, cars, etc). I bought the game on release day and played it for an hour or so before I got bored and never played it again (which is wild cuz I played sims 3 base game for WEEKS when it came out) 😂

11:26 tbh i never even consider buying a pack before LGR reviews it. you’re so honest with the review, and i know many people think you’re being overly cynical, but when you genuinely like a feature you do not hide that from us. i’ve been watching your sims stuff since showtime, and have always waited eagerly for what you think on new stuff. so, don’t sell yourself short!!
Evil Arts destruction of Maxis was a unforgivable sin
They literally destroy everything they touch. I don't think there is one single studio they didn't overpay for at their height, and then gut or totally destroy in under a decade. And still it's all the same muppets in charge who keep their job 🤷
@@DapperProf yup, it's pretty sad how far they've fallen
@@DapperProf The sad thing is that Electronics Arts was founded to be the exact opposite of that. Hence the name. A company that put creativity first, and honored their artists and programmers for their skills. That's why early EA releases were packaged in a "record album" format, which showed off the creators, as much as the game itself. Corporate suits who didn't understand games, or gamers, took over in just a few short decades, though.
One of EAs ads from 1983 asked "Can a computer game make you cry?" Yours sure can, EA, and not in a good way!
They destroyed Maxis along with The Sims as a whole
Even though your burned out on this game I'm still really glad you keep making reviews on it. It really helps me fight off the urge to buy every new thing when it really isn't worth the value.
The „mane Event“ not having wild horses is quite disappointing :(
I'm waiting for "Life By You". The guy that worked on sims 2 & 3 is creating it and it looks promising.
I didn't know that! That's great to know, thanks for sharing
it astounds me that an entire expansion was dedicated to a horse.
Sarah Jessica Parker bribed EA to make this it seems.
Right?? All of the farm related packs blend together to me too so this was deja vu. And vampires/werewolves, actual sim life states, were just game packs. Bizarre choices
Buddy you don;t know horse owners. lol
It is fine if they were fleshed out and no rabbit holes and the world is an open world
It even more astounding to see the fans at sims community page on fb or their channel all be like crazy hype and as usual, the pack had game breaking potential to no surprise and they still clap on it.
We really need good competitor to enter the market soon so we can show them how a good life simulation should feel like.
For some time now, your reviews have basically been the only way I've been experiencing this series. I can only hope that any of the indie games that take inspiration from the series can give me some kind of enthusiasm for these kinds of games again.
The best part is probably how the paint job is genetically transferred to the foal. Lol genius.

looking at the review for this, there arent even that many sights to justify 40 freaking dollars lmfao, like "oh the competition is walking into a damn building and then coming out a few hours later" (kind of like how they fucked graduation in discover uni), like really the mini goats could have been part of cottage living along with nectar making (like making alcohol at home is quite the thing in the country), and horsies could have been a game pack at best

I always look forward to your reviews though and other videos on your channel which I really enjoy. Particularly the teddy bear computer one, I thought that was such a fun video.
I'm hopeful that someday we can all enjoy the sims again, but I'm doubtful. Thank you for always being honest though, and I really enjoy your sense of humour and how genuine you come across in these videos. It's a nice breath of fresh air in the youtube landscape💗
I have not bought anything since Snowy Escape. So yeah, done buying anything for this franchise. They need to wow me. But hey, love all your video’s.❤
Snowy Escape was the last pack I got too. Then I sailed the high seas with the following ones; only to just stop doing that after Growing Together annoyed me with how barebones it was. How sad is it that I can't even be bothered to even pirate this pack when I love the Sims as a series.
Gotta go, time to play the Sims 2.
I bought the base game when it was on sale, after it had been out for a few years already. Played for a couple hours and then returned to ts2 and 3. I keep thinking I'll buy Seasons if they ever lower the price for it below $20, but idk if I'll even do that. 4 just wasn't as interesting for me as the others.
Same. I bought cottage living, but haven't bought anything since. I haven't even played in like 8 months. High school years and growing together are right up my alley gameplay wise too...I just can't get behind the price.

Nowadays I always wait for sales for sims content, when this one came out I thought “oh, maybe growing together will be on sale soon”. $40 is outrageous. Unfortunately I am very skeptical of Sims 5, given that they appear to be going the freemium route, with micro transactions everywhere.

Your reviews are the best as it's honesty and you're not being paid by them.
genuinely thank you for doing these reviews out of your own pockets. I've reached the point in my sims life where even the packs i'm *interested* in i usually pass on simply because i am exhausted from the blatant nickel & diming of the players. not sure whether it's due to deadlines or greed (or both) but the result for me has been genuine apathy for this series that i used to leave open on my PC for days at a time because i didn't want to lose any playing time to having to load the game up (i know, not good for the health of the PC lmao but that was like 10 years ago!)
sigh. this series NEEDS some quality competition to humble EA. their success is one of lack of competition, clearly not product quality
Not only that, I've found that I have to go out and find other players' neighborhood builds just to have neighborhoods that look and function better. That shouldn't be something seen as necessary by players but EA builds their neighborhoods with the barest of bones and sometimes really weird architecture that sims can't even access.
Thank you LGR for always adding subtitles and for injecting the extra humor that can only come in text format. :D

I very much appreciate that despite you being very reasonably burnt out on Sims 4 content and the soulless enterprise that keeps chugging them out, you still give praise to the parts that are genuinely good.
This is something that a lot of discussion online seems to forget. You can give praise for the positive things but still acknowledge the giant glaring flaws there are elsewhere. You can do both and be consistent and constructive.
Can't wait for the my first horse stuff and 3 horse ranch themed kits to go along with this!
I love LGR, everything he says is always on point. I’ve been following since the sims 3 and it’s so sad (but justified) to hear the lack of enthusiasm for sims 4. I really wish people knew how much better the other games are and how much sims 4 has ripped off it’s loyal followers.

I always smile when I see a new LGR sims review. The pain he endures for us while making these just brings a smile to my face 😃
The nectar making it is returning from The Sims 3 World Adventures in this pack
7:49 absolute quote of the year here 😂 MISSED YOUR SIMS REVIEWS LGR!! they always put me in a better and calm mood every time!
I miss when packs were 40 dollars in Canada. They decided to charge us American a couple years ago so now each expansion pack costs over 60 dollars with tax.
Jesus. Here in Singapore they just charged us $50 SGD. Including tax. And our currencies are pretty much identical. Man you guys got screwed.
I’ve been WAITING for this video!! The best and most honest reviews 👏
Now that The Sims 4 is free to play. Don't see these expansion stopping any time soon.
9:49 is a visual representation of Sims packs lol
