My daughter has two friends watching her kids while she works. They try to help each other. I made a big goodie bag of toilet paper, shampoo, soap, dish soap, deodorant, razors, toothpaste. Floss. Whatever I could put in the bag. I wrote a card thanking her for being a beautiful friend. When my daughter walked in she thought she had to pay for all that. My daughter smiled and said read the card. This is from my mom thanking you for being a beautiful friend ❤ she had the biggest smile. I’m a crazy couponer and it warms my heart.
Last night I got on my grocery shopping app. I just unloaded and put away things I’ve been telling myself to stock up on. Big bags of sugar, flour, rice, multiple bags. Cans and cans of tuna and chicken, even some SPAM, because hey, it’s food and keeps well. A bunch of canned veggies, store brand mostly, of a wide variety. I mean probably 40 cans. I checked dates and most are 2026, some even 2027. I feel better. There is no sense in sitting on $ when I can convert it to storable food and that will be used, or even bartered. This digital bank mess terrifies me. I’m a retired widow (actually a 2x widow) and lost my only son in 2021 when he was only 30. It’s just me. I will try to garden this spring if I have the strength. But for now, I feel more secure. P.S. I love your channel, your info inspires me.
Diapers jumped another dollar per box at Aldi. I have three in diapers at the moment. So thankful I listened years ago and learned to use cloth diapers. I'd be up a creek right now if I hadn't. Keep telling them!
In the 70's when I had my babies I used cloth diapers when everyone else was opting for Pampers. We saved alot of money using cloth diapers even then. My husband was a farm hand and we lived on less than $150 each week. We struggled but we were happy
I had to use a t shirt a time or two! I don't know if this will help, but sometimes places like churches, homeless shelters, even Salvation Army have diapers for those in need. There might be diaper ministries in your area. It might be worth a few phone calls and Google searches. Also, FB Marketplace always has offers for discounted diapers out of boxes but still in plastic.
Thank you Patara. I agree with what you're saying. My parent's helped me when all of a sudden I was a single mom of 2. Now I'm helping my 30 yr old daughter who found herself a single parent. She just got a weekend job on top of her great full-time job. It's getting harder for everyone.
@@SunsetGazing It's probably ours! Two are homebodies but two others have minds of their own and half the time refuse to come in at night no matter how much we holler for them and beg. I didn't buy a tree this year...too expensive for a tree that is dying. AND my daughter and her husband moved back in WITH A KITTEN. Last nite they told me they want to decorate the indoor lemon tree. I said yes, and be creative! Let's see how they do it--this is the good stuff--use what you have.
We are out visiting our daughter in Colorado for Christmas and I brought projects for my granddaughters to sew as gifts for their parents. The 4 y/o made a simple potholder, 6 y/o made big grill gloves for Dad and the 8 y/o a pie carrier for their mama. They had little friends over and I had extra so they made gifts for their parents also, their little faces were so proud ❤
Due to the attacks on merchant shipping in the red sea the ships are making a much much longer route to get goods to ports. This will drive inflation even higher and disrupt availability. Lag on that inflation too but not a lot of lag time before we see the effects. If it disrupts oil shipping expect double inflation on everything.
We decided to gift our 2 married children and their spouses gift cards this year. We gave them cards for the grocery store they use and also cards for gasoline. Both are newly married and rent so we know these gifts will help and be appreciated. Blessings to all for a wonderful Christmas 🎄🎄
Was barefoot in Maine, when I was 10 we moved to Florida. Barefoot was hard to do down there cause of the red ants, but I managed it. Even harder to do in Idaho now, what with the ground thistle everywhere. 😆
Patara and her family work like dogs to keep this self sufficient life but a lot of us don’t have that option because we don’t have the physical ability , money or land but don’t feel bad. Take what you can and do what you can from her videos.. xoxo merry Christmas
In 42 years of marriage we have never missed a house payment until this month. Our small business is off about 60 percent. Praying the Lord will send them to us in the new Year.
My husband and I often remind each other that these are the “good old days” - right now! And we want to make the most of the days we’re given. Thank you for all your encouraging words, Patara, and may you be blessed with a Merry Christmas! ❤️
Trees in Maine have sold pretty well this year. Unfortunately, due to the last powerful winter storm most of Maine lost their power this week. Talk about a hard slap before Christmas. Thanks you for all the line workers coming from all over the country to help us out!
You are absolutely correct. My husband, who is 64 yrs old, got laid off on November 19. Thank God we have savings, but you know how hard it's going to be for a 64 yr old to find a job? All I can do is pray. Merry Christmas to you and your family! 😊
Purse strings are tight, but the Lord provides. Youngest son needed a ride to visit friends and drop off presents. They gifted me with two dozen fresh eggs from their hens. I'm taking them a bunch of pumpkins when I go back to pick him up. Amazing what happens when we just have faith in the Lord.
I’m in the west TN area and there were NO cut Christmas trees in this area at all. I commented to my sisters about it and they were surprised to realize that they hadn’t seen any at the big box stores either.
The unsold trees here are used as fish breeding areas in the local lakes. They gather them up and slowly submerged them so the fish can deposit eggs and the fry can be safe to grow.
Our farmers market didn't even bother putting trees out this year. Its beyond sad, its depressing what is happening and to those who said they'd steal from my garden, I'm planning on planting more for you. Just ask me, dont steal! Lets finally work together. Grow your pot and I'll grow food for your child! Sorry just having a bad day but its real!
My free Baker Creek Heirloom Seed catalogue came in the mail today. It is over the top beautiful IMO. I'm old and disabled but love to look and give it to my daughter. It brings back memories of gardening.
I got mine in the mail too, but haven't had time to sit and look at it. Not that I really need any more seeds. I need to figure out a bigger planting area, than my small container garden.
Our town got very few trees and were sold out in 2 days. My daughter set up her TP and left 1/4th open. Wrapped the TP in green garland and hung the ornaments on the garland. All the gifts are going inside the opening of the TP. It turned out GREAT 🎄
Your animals clearly love you. I get it, you feed them, but I can see their affection for you as well. It goes beyond just you feeding them. It is very sweet to see.
For each business not doing well there are people being laid off or let go. Those people don't buy a lot. This effects other businesses. The effect snowballs. Will be much worse quicker than people think.
I feel bad for the tree farm owner but this year I didn’t even bother with a tree or decorations this year. Instead I am concentrating on paying bills and getting ready for the higher utility bills that come every winter. It seems I just can’t find the Christmas spirit this year. That’s why I am so happy to be still working at the nursing home because it keeps me in touch with the true meaning of Christmas. I love when my residents share stories of their Christmas’s way back when. Back when things weren’t so commercial. Talking about homemade presents and Christmas stockings. And being thrilled to get an orange in their stocking on Christmas morning because that was a rare treat. ♥️
First of all, thank you for what you do. I honestly am not in the Christmas spirit this year. I didn't put up my little artificial tree. I can't give this year like I did last year. But I can give a little. My neighbor asked me if I eat chicken legs and I said yes so she brought me over 3 packages of chicken legs, a turkey breast and a little ham. I gave my daughter 2 packages of chicken legs and the turkey breast is in the frig because I am going to cut the meat off of it and can it. Please be safe out there and merry Christmas everyone.
@jennyhackenberg, I TOTALLY hear what you are saying! Times are beyond hard. My daughter & her family, due to the insane housing prices, have been living with us for the last year. As much as I dreaded it it has turned out to be the biggest blessing. My husband & I had been struggling on SS, but when they moved in & contributed to household expenses it helped us immensely. (If you cook from scratch, it really doesn't cost that much more to go from cooking for cooking for two versus cooking for five.😊). I was determined that my grandkids weren't going to suffer/feel overly deprived so we made sure they thought of OTHERS who might be worse off. They have chosen food from our pantry to drop off at the food bank. They have baked cookies for days to randomly hand out to elderly at the grocery store parking lot, etc. so they understand how very blessed we are to have a roof overhead & food in their bellies. Hang in their sweet lady & God bless.
Granny used to make them so small...they fit in the teacups in her china cupboard...I used to ask her if I could come over and play with the teacup kids. Wow the memories flood back for this 69 y/o.
It pays to have a construction magnet. We have a hand-held on long pole and the one on wheels (about 1 foot long). Our home was built 2 1/2 yrs ago, and I still find stuff.
20 years ago we bought a pretty artificial Christmas tree. We have used it every year since. Paid 42.99l including tax. That means it cost us $2.14 per year. It is like getting out an old friend every year. I burn a pine sented candle and everyone thinks it is real. Merry Christmas!!!
Artificial trees are more common where I am. When I was a kid we’d always go to my grandparents and find a tree (my grandfather grew about 50 at a time so any given year my parents, aunts and uncles and cousins could all come out and get a tree, then he’d start new ones and replant where the old ones were) but now we just reuse the same artificial tree. I do miss the pine needle smell though. I have definitely noticed a lot more people at Dollar Tree looking for gifts. I overheard a conversation where a woman told her partner “well, Santa’s just going to have to figure it out.” In a hopeless tone. I told my siblings not to get me anything this year and not to worry about getting my kids anything, not that they listened.
We always made all gifts. Friendship breads, cookies, maybe a handmade doll or two but all home created. In 1987 my bestie gave me a pair of thermals. I do not know where she got them, but I still wear them. We had no heat at work, and they were well loved. I agree with something a builder said to me, people expect too much. Life is not always all you want.
we have a faux tree we bought after Christmas the year we got married 1972 for $10.00. I think we got our moneys worth because it's still just as beautiful all these years later.
We, too, decided not to buy a tree. The former owners of our property left behind a ton of stuff, and in an outbuilding we found an old, white, plastic Christmas tree and many cans of spray paint. So I cleaned up the tree and spray-painted it metallic gold. It actually turned out really, really well! It's so pretty with just lights that we skipped ornaments this year. Best of all, it was free!
I'm chopping onions, washing dishes and husband comes in. I hear your voice and ask, "Is that Patara?" "Yep," he declares. We are on a first-name basis, neighbor.
Me too! I love that girl! It’s the highlight of my day. I find myself at the end of the day looking for any last minute videos I might have missed! I feel like she’s a old friend neighbor that I visit over u-tube instead of the fence.
Hello Patata. Just wanted to say Merry Christmas. I have no brothers or sisters and my parents are both passed away. I am so grateful that I have some one like you to give me advice . It means a lot. Love you for what you do. Love. Genia from Arkansas
I just love the way you name all your animals! I’ve been watching for several years and just now posting. Thank you for your variety of programming. I love the truth, the encouragement to prepare, and seeing your honest homestead life! I watch you everyday or listen when I drive to work. 😀
High end holiday scented soaps and candles are already marked half off. Usually they are sold out or you have to wait until after Christmas to get a deal.
I was about 10 or 11 years old when I got lockjaw. I was very blessed that my mom got our shots. But had been 7 years prior. I stepped on a rusted nail and didn’t tell anyone. They had to pull a few of my teeth so I could drink out of a straw. I was also blessed they pulled baby teeth. So I know how you feel. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a wonderful new year.
My place was full of broken glass and old tin cans plus vehicle parts..4 years in and still finding more! Last time the farrier was here he pulled an old hand made roofing tack out of a horses foot..thankfully wasn't infected or in too deep. Lost count of how many nails I've trod on over the years, reminders of all the different people and things that have been here in previous generations.
I have made a sweet sack for all my grands and socks! My kids for a sack of food items. My husband got a warm shirt and a set a pjs for me. Keeping it very simple and focusing on family and the reason for the season. God bless you and yours and those who follow your channel!
There is a wild persimmon tree in the yard, here. Every December, I decorate that tree with Christmas balls, bells that tinkle, red bows. We enjoy that tree! Merry Christmas everyone!! Bless you coming and and going!!
True about having 'things' in your yard from past people! Nails and all kinds of glass seem to work it's way to the surface all the time. Then my one dog, she likes to dig holes, and digs huge ones. All kinds of glass, and nails, metal pieces. She dug up an intact Cola bottle from many years ago of that greenish glass. It's now a collectible in my cupboard.
You're an inspiration. I feel busy with a husband, three kids, a dozen chickens, a dozen ducks, two dogs, a cat and 150 fruit trees and bushes. 😅 I need to get off my lazy butt!!!! Thanks for everything and Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas to you too Patara & your family. I love you. I know I’ve never met you but you’re just so special to my heart & you help me every time I watch you. I’ve been feeling so insecure about everything going on & then I watch you & always feel like no matter what happens .. as long as we have Jesus & prepare no matter what we will be ok! Thank you, I can’t say it enough. ♥️🎄😊🙏
I just ordered a swing away wall mount can opener...the manual kind. Anyone remember those? My mom had one in her house (still here) for 50 years. It still works but it's about shot. In fact, her double oven has been here since 1970 and still works great. 😊. That's over 50 years!!
Before they started getting money hungry there was all kinds of stuff on the market that lasted forever, Light bulbs used to last years, know🤷I have changed out at least four lite bulbs in my neighbors lamp in just about three or four months.
MOST county-property-tax-biils are due during the first two months of the year. Many have it included in the monthly mortgage payments. But, for many others, it is a strong hit to the savings or checking account. I look for February and March to be harder than January.
Finally finished wrapping up all of our homemade salt dough ornaments for my little one's daycare teachers and family members. We are preparing for cookie decorating and celebrating baby Jesus with family. Life is good. I'm calling this year the humble Christmas. Yes, there will be gifts, but the focus is on being together under one roof enjoying each other's company. Also, I've been out shopping this week and have noticed TONS of inventory still on the shelves and heavily discounted. I couldn't believe my eyes.
Our parents told us the shoe store burnt down 😊.....we grew up on a farm and regularly took IVM because that's what living off of the earth requires. Garlic works pretty well too.
Today is my big baking day. I have 3 kinds of cookie dough made and in the refrigerator. Oatmeal raisin, chocolate crinkle and white chocolate chip with cranberries and pecans!! Also cutting up veggies for a veggie tray and fruit for a nice big fruit salad.
I remember seeing trees given away here in the Atlanta area in 2009 and also 2020! This year they seem to be selling pretty good. I think people are determined to not let anything spoil their spirits this year.
Patera, I must say, you're the highlight of my evening! Every day I sit back and check some channels here on youtube, and you just have a glow about you that brightens my spirit, my entire day!! I truly mean that too. Even when you talk about the hard times to come, I get it, and I'm prepared just like you. It's just so refreshing to listen to someone with such a positive and hopeful attitude, even when we all know what the future may hold. I too, live in the country, used to have a lot of animals, but now only dogs and cat as we're getting older. But I never get tired of watching you do chores....been there done that. Merry Christmas from Kansas!
In the Uk I seen a video about a program called adopt a grand, so a family can adopt a senior to live with them, the senior would go stay with the family for a couple weeks, then go home. Both sides would have time to sit back and see how they feel about each side. Then they would decide if they were a match. I think there is many senior that have a lot to offer a family, maybe not so much in money, most are low-income, but they have lots of skills and can be a helping hand.
I'm an older guy who lives in Oregon where they grow a lot of Christmas trees. Finally, we decided to get a 4' artificial tree. All we have to do is plug it in. I keep it in the attic till Christmas when Christmas is over it goes back in the attic. Also don't have to pay the Boy Scouts to haul it off, and no mess to clean up. I think this is the way of the future!
Love the Native American painting Patara!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the kitty cats loving each other, so cute! We've been making sausage balls and peanut butter balls! I hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
We have tree farms around East Texas and I don't see people buying them. I was at Walmart today and they were putting out seven pallets of toys with no where to put them. I asked the lady and she said they are buying but not like they have in years past. I see a lot of stores that are going to get hung out with a lot of merchandise. We are heading to our kids on Saturday and coming home on Monday. Merry Christmas y'all.
Look at that cream! Beautiful! I love the corn husk angel. I’m making all of my grands homemade bears from my Daddy’s old clothes. I’m making 3 great grandloves one too! My Daddy would have been their great-great grandfather! I just love homemade gifts! I never go without shoes. Those prickly weeds in the field hurts! Those Christmas trees are expensive! We’ve been married 46 years and I’ve never “bought” a fresh tree. We used to cut our own in the mountains!
We spent the evening stockpiling sugar, rice and beans into Mylar bags and 5 gallon buckets. And no complaints around here about spending family time together. Waiting for our new delivery of oats and non iodized salt to come in.
The neighbors and I dug out our lights and decorated the outside of our homes with what we had. We like to take a drive to look at the lights 😊 This will be the last year for the fair grounds drive through display . I have been going for over 30 years. 😢

They have chosen food from our pantry to drop off at the food bank. They have baked cookies for days to randomly hand out to elderly at the grocery store parking lot, etc. so they understand how very blessed we are to have a roof overhead & food in their bellies.
Hang in their sweet lady & God bless.
Merry Christmas Jenny😊🎉🎄🕊🎁🙏🌎
Awe, that corn husk doll brought so many memories back:) Just beautiful! Merry Christmas to you/yours/family!
Was thinking the same thing!
Me too! I use to make them. 🤣
Granny used to make them so small...they fit in the teacups in her china cupboard...I used to ask her if I could come over and play with the teacup kids. Wow the memories flood back for this 69 y/o.
@@FloridaGirl-I would love to know how to make one I think they are beautiful 😍
I had forgotten those❤❤
"Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."
Perfect mantra for these days we're living in
No spend January and February is my plan. Filling in preps as needed. No debt and as much savings as we can do. Praying for the best. Merry Christmas.
Watching, listening and preparing! Money is running out ! Tree or food , tree-0 food-10 😊
Afternoon y’all
Hello 😊
You are absolutely right! Every time it rains here in SC, more glass and assorted metal pieces appear!
Wow! Where do they come from?
It pays to have a construction magnet. We have a hand-held on long pole and the one on wheels (about 1 foot long). Our home was built 2 1/2 yrs ago, and I still find stuff.
Your animals make me smile. So much life. Just love it. Thank you very much for showing all your babies. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
LOL 😂 I saw those goat baby tails swinging and immediately thought of the old Felix the Cat Clock! You need a goat tail swinging clock Patara! lolol
😂 I thought of Newton’s cradle. 😂
I remember the "swinging tail" clocks. (Cats & dogs)
That would be awesome to see & Patera should have one with a goat. 😂
Love to see those little goats with their wagging tails....Cuteness overload! Happy Holidays to all!
I like it when their little tails wiggle its like fast motion their sooo cute!
we have a faux tree we bought after Christmas the year we got married 1972 for $10.00. I think we got our moneys worth because it's still just as beautiful all these years later.
Bumble bees in the strawberry patch, nails from a roof patch job, and cinders on the road--all good reasons to wear shoes outside!
“Prepare for the future!”
I love this phrase, prepping with hope for a future! Very positive with a side of preparedness!
MERRY CHRISTMAS Genia❤🙏🕊🎄🎁🌎
I just love the way you name all your animals! I’ve been watching for several years and just now posting. Thank you for your variety of programming. I love the truth, the encouragement to prepare, and seeing your honest homestead life! I watch you everyday or listen when I drive to work. 😀
I remember making a corn husk doll, however mine didn't look that nice, but I love her all the same.
When I see those cute little goats tails and bottles makes me think of a race to the end. Love it. Love to All.
Christmas this year was crabbing, fishing stuff, zip ties, Paracord, warm clothes, battery zipped holder, etc. few goodies.
My children are getting items to help them prep, canning items and seal a meals. Canning books and the like.
So sweet how your baby goats nurse in rhythm. Talk about barn stomping❤
Good day, everyone from Eastern Wa.
Geese were flying south today in Maryland. I was so happy to see them but I never thought they would migrate this late.
Love the Popular Report.
He's an accountant, and he is right on point.
There is a wild persimmon tree in the yard, here. Every December, I decorate that tree with Christmas balls, bells that tinkle, red bows. We enjoy that tree! Merry Christmas everyone!! Bless you coming and and going!!
such a cute idea!
I love the noise and especially the little tail goats.
You're an inspiration. I feel busy with a husband, three kids, a dozen chickens, a dozen ducks, two dogs, a cat and 150 fruit trees and bushes. 😅 I need to get off my lazy butt!!!!
Thanks for everything and Merry Christmas 🎄
Definitely not lazy with all that going on 🥰
Merry Christmas to you too Patara & your family.
Ty for sharing your life with us. Widow here happy,no complaints, love Jesus and pray for you and all the friends on here.❤
Good afternoon 😊
I always look forward to listening and learning something new
You are so creative! I love that corn angel. I'm sure your kids had blast growing up :)
I can’t believe you have turkey eggs this time of year. What a blessing! MERRY CHRISTMAS, all!
MOST county-property-tax-biils are due
during the first two months of the year.
Many have it included in the monthly mortgage payments. But, for many others, it is a strong hit to the savings or
checking account.
I look for February and March to be harder
than January.
We paid our property taxes last month, so as to pay the smallest amount. It goes up every month, so pays to pay early.
Merry Christmas, Patara, and to your family. Merry Christmas to the community.
Merry Christmas!!👍🏻
Merry Christmas, friend!
Our parents told us the shoe store burnt down 😊.....we grew up on a farm and regularly took IVM because that's what living off of the earth requires. Garlic works pretty well too.
Love to see all the beautiful animals
Today is my big baking day. I have 3 kinds of cookie dough made and in the refrigerator.
Oatmeal raisin, chocolate crinkle and white chocolate chip with cranberries and pecans!! Also cutting up veggies for a veggie tray and fruit for a nice big fruit salad.
Patara you n your critters bring me such Joy thank you so much Much love n hugs 🤗 💖 🙏
The sausage balls are AMAZING!! My kids went crazy for them!! God bless you and your dear family Patara 🤍
I wait to spend some time with Patara and her fur and feather family.
That's a beautiful corn husk Angel 😻
Love the corn husk angel!
I think you are spot on. Jan/Feb is going to hit like a ton of bricks!
North Texas and haven't seen a Christmas tree this year.
Those prickly weeds in
the field hurts!
Merry Christmas to everybody in the Patara Tribe. Try to have a blessed New Year everyone. Patara, take care.
Central Florida here. Planting lettuce seeds and broccolli transplants. Make herb compound butters. Keeping busy. Thanks for sharing 🙏 😎 🏖 🏝
Central FL here too!
Christmas Blessings to all 🙏🕊️
Thank you, Ms Patara 🥰
Merry Christmas!!👋🏻
@@paula5440 Merry Christmas 🕊️
Merry Christmas 🎄
The neighbors and I dug out our lights and decorated the outside of our homes with what we had. We like to take a drive to look at the lights 😊 This will be the last year for the fair grounds drive through display . I have been going for over 30 years. 😢
