    Great video man, I really enjoyed the whole review experience, you don't see that many TH-camrs giving the real experience on a product and I thank you for your efforts in this video. Very informative.
    Hey man... Your TV console is unreal! Can you link it please?

      awesome man appreciate it and glad you liked. i see some youtubers just open the product right there and 'review' it, like how could you form an opinion on any product after only using it for 10 mins ha. ah well. oh btw, the tv console i believe they just got that from a cosco world market

    Cool - one note - putting the surrounds at ear level just behind the couch is suboptimal. Certainly for anyone sitting on the couch there, the surround will be right behind your head and too loud relative to the other speakers. A cheap fix is to put them higher towards the ceiling. Surrounds are intended to provide ambience, and the indirection provided by having them high and away is a good thing.

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      these are good points. although when sitting in the middle of this couch it didnt seem too loud at all. you can turn them down in the receiver too, but putting them up high definitely works

    Excellent video! I think you did a great job given the challenges with the room setup.
    Just curious as to why you used the optical audio connection instead of HDMI which passes through higher resolution audio (Dolby True HD, DTS HD Master audio) especially given that the receiver can handle these audio formats

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey murani thanks. actually i didn't realize that hdmi passes through higher res audio......i dont' know if their sources are passing through those formats though. i hooked it the way it is mainly because we liked how the directv remote was already able to change the inputs on the tv and how it displayed those changes, and we wanted to keep using that as the single remote. if they were to get a true universal i would rewire everything.

    Buy used speakers.
    My audio setup costs around $900 and it is 5.1.2. Infinity Primus towers for the front. Def tech center. Sony Core bookshelves for surrounds. Energy sub. The towers, center and sub were bought used. Probably spent a total of about $450 for my total speaker package. Payed about $400 for my reciever. Sounds great. The sub is the weak link but I only paid $30 for it so when I find a good deal on a better 12" sub I'll replace it with no hesitation.

  • @4eric16
    @4eric16 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you run audio from the tv to the receiver via optical? Maybe try using via hdmi arc input from the tv to the receiver if the receiver supports it. Thinking about those energy speakers as well.

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you can find the energy's they are the best bang for your buck by far for a satellite setup. i did use the optical, i had some specific reason for wiring it up a little non traditiaonlly, but normally yeah i would use the arc

    Excellent and informative video, learnt a lot. One question I have is how would the system feel for someone sitting in the corner where the speaker is right behind them? I have been thinking of setting up in a very small room but similar to this, a speaker will be very near someone, so I'm wondering if its even worth it?

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      definitely still worth it, you can adjust the levels of the speakers with the receiver, so if its too loud you can just turn the back one down. also in most shows/movies the rears are just ambient noise and some directional sounds, its unlikely it would bother anyone imo

    Nice vid and clean setup! To that seems like this room has old walls as my house where you HAVE to run a cable channeling setup since there isn't drywall to hide your cables behind. Please show vid on that.
    Also, dig you adding the outside speakers and being sure to pay attention to the receiver being able to have dual audio controls, now I HAVE to incorporate that for my setup! You had a gripe about the receiver so what would you recommend as a better one?
    Then please add link to the better outside speakers you mentioned. Thanks

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      no drywall? is your walls concrete? the ones in the video definitely could be drilled into and drop the cable. as far as the outside speakers they were from monoprice www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13614 these are the bigger 6.5 inch ones, which is what i would get, the video were the 5 1/4 sized speakers. outdoor definitely a must have! as far as the receiver, honestly no huge gripes on this receiver i don't have a particular one to recommend, i think this one was good, i don't recall teh exact gripe ha. but the one i plan on getting myself is this one amzn.to/2pZ0Oc5 its more pricey but i plan on running bigger speakers than whats in the video, if i was just doing satellites i would probably purchase this denon again. hope that helps

    • @BDiHaze
      @BDiHaze 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@techfreshness I don't think the walls are concrete, but plaster so doubt there's any real framing to code behind there. I have some old, yet powerful speakers that crank with my old receiver setup but now need a new receiver with all these HDMI connections so all those devices can play out of that set of speakers. I think they're powerful enough to not need a separate sub but don't know how many satellite speakers to add to give myself a true 5.1 or even 7.1 setup seeing I've made my open floorplan of living room/dining room to my media room to have my TV on an angle like you have in this vid. Then your insight on using the extra ports to power outside speakers and being able to control what plays on them along with control their volume has be looking to run a pair of speakers to my back yard as well as my front porch. Is there a way to connect then so each of these speakers can have separate things playing on them or just volume so I can it playing lower on the front porch then the back or vice-versa?
      Then I can go from the $1500+ estimate you gave for getting the SVS 5.1 setup to just getting the receiver, several satellites and good wires and that would be amazing savings to my upgrade plans.
      Lastly I was thinking getting this would be a more pliable, yet clean way to manage my cables without any need for tacking anything

    Great video man. I got my hands on a brand new Yamaha RX-A760 for like $300 from Best Buy. I also got an open box Definitive Tech Pro Sub 800 for around the same. So now I want to get the Klipsch line of speakers, an RP-440C and a pair of the RP-280 to start off with. What do you think? I am not too tech savvy, but I watch a lot of action movies and the louder the better. I have been using the same BOSE speakers for the last 20 years but they are starting to make weird noises now. Am I headed in the right direction? I am totally in for the ATMOS set up as well. Probably speakers in the ceiling.

    Mounting the TV up near the ceiling AND in a corner is so wrong. Speaker placement is far less than ideal as well. I spent about the same on my system but at least I put some thought into setting it up and it sounds frigging AWESOME. Setting your equipment up is important. Do it properly the first time, otherwise you'll just end up doing it again.

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i agree completely, it was not my house, therefore i had some other things to consider

  • @RuiSilvaPT
    @RuiSilvaPT 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice effort, congrats. But that speakers placement though... you can play with the dB levels for each speaker but the position itself will never produce a good and accurate soundstage as the sweet spot, like as in stereo, will never be fulfilled. But I get it, one makes what he cans from what he has!
    IMO, one of the most common mistakes is the placement of the subwoofer. Most tend to put it on the corners of a room, and that is more often than not, not the appropriate place to be in. Try the subwoofer crawl technique, my 15" 132lb sub sweet spot is 1.5m of a corner. Yours will be easy as it is not that heavy, now imagine picking up a 100L 60kg sub and sitting it on your sweet spot and crawling for the correct location! ahahah

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i really should have, but long story short, it was because we specifically only wanted to use the one remote they already had, so this was the only way to do it up. you don't lose sound quality since that signal is passed through the tv and then back out to the receiver, do lose some on screen display though so that is annoying

    The other reason it was a bad idea to send everything through the tv is that you will not be able to take advantage of Dolby True HD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Atmos or DTS-X! And it is pointless to include the audio because of the mic quality and the speakers your listening to will make it sound different than what he is hearing!

    I think it's a little weird how you went to all this time setting up for enhanced audio quality to then use an optical cable that only supports lossy formats.
    not being able to enjoy any hd audio found on nearly every single bluray today.

    Rip the people that have to sit all the way at the back there on those white seats, being on that angle. But I guess with that living room you have not much choice.

  • @moygtorres
    @moygtorres 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good job for someone who isn't a pro.. but the main mistake here is your speaker placement, essentially you improved the sound in the room by adding the surround sound system but you aren't getting surround sound at all, you got sound all over the place without your front noises coming from the front and your background noises coming from the back.. I guess you tried your best based on the weird room set up anyway.

    You could have saved $150 and bought a refurbished Denon and then put money into some better speakers. You could have got a 5.1 set of BIC speakers and subwoofer and come it at under $1,000 for sure along with the receiver too.

    You are not very good at this, not very good at all.
    You didn't know how to use a hole saw?
    You stuffed an xbox and a cable box in a drawer?!?!?!
    YOU *NEVER* PUT THEM IN A DRAWER!!!!! unless you have a cool air intake and an exhaust fan with dust filters.
    Holy crap you didn't use a line conditioner, just a plain old power strip?
    You could have used HDMI ARC instead of the optical cable.
    In a situation like this i would have opted for a 2.1 config and brought the TV down just a bit.
    Good video, great production values, and I loved how you explained everything you did and your editing was on point.

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey veer, yep, definitely some tradeoffs i had to do though for a number of reasons. although i for sure did not put the xbox in the drawer, i did however put some smaller and cheaper components in there, yeah it gets hot but so what, they still cranking ha. line conditioner maybe more important with more expensive installs maybe. i didnt' really have the option to bring the tv, its not exactly the way i would have done it in my own home, however you are definitely right, i had no idea about that hole saw lol
