  • Sometimes there are cars on the street or parking lots that catch us off guard to the point where we can't help but stare. Throughout automotive history, companies and individuals have made strange driving machines. Other times many great vehicles have gotten overlooked throughout the years. We wanted to highlight these scarce and extraordinary cars.
The collection of rare and unusual vintage cars in our video are quite striking. We guarantee that most people will never get see these on the road, but if they do, they will be in awe like us. It is hard to believe that manufacturers such as GM, Ford, Chevrolet, and Ferrari funded these types of concept projects or that engineers/designers had the opportunity to really think outside the box. In any case, we are thankful these vehicles exist. So, without further ado, here are the odd and rare older cars you don't see every day; enjoy!

I owned three Javelins (1968, 1970 and 1971), and a 1968 twoseat AMX. The AMX was an awesome little car. By far the most fun to drive of all the cars I ever owned.

I am currently restoring a 70’ Boss 429. I found it in Texas and the sheet metal is in pristine shape. Unfortunately the engine is seized. It’s a 4 speed. So I’m taking her apart and putting it back on the road. The engine is going to be ok. I’ve torn it down and it’s not hurt to bad. Yay. So it’ll be up and going again. I just love this body style and it’ll be a pleasure to drive. Thanks for featuring the Boss 429 in this video. 👍

I have a 1-of-1 1968 Mercury Cougar GT/428CJ Ram air. Only 126 68 cougars had a 428cj. Of them, 14 were Cardinal red. Of those, only 2 had white interior. Of those, only one was ram air/GT. I also have a 68 Mercury Marauder X100. You should do a story on these 2 models, as they are pretty neat and seriously under the radar.

Many Cougar XR7 428CJ RAM AIR 1968 & a half convertibles were built. I know of one. It belonged to my stepfather's sister who bought brand new in 1968. She has since passed away & left the car to her mechanic.

Boss 429. What a legendary car. I think the lines and proportions of the 1969 and 1970 Mustangs were pretty much perfect. I used to car pool with a few guys to university. On his days to drive, one of my buddies took his mom’s 1969 White Mustang with a blue interior and a 302. I always admired that car.

I'm pretty much finished but she needs the battery mount replaced and the electrical is being a pain, making my turn signals just not work. Unfortunately, she got caught in a brutal hail storm and has dents and dings all over the bodywork now. Looking for a bodyshop to clean it up and repaint it. but after everything else that's needed replacing, It's in the home stretch now

One mistake, the 69 Mustang BOSS 429. The engine was developed to complete compete in the NASCAR Winston Cup, the series wouldn't be called the Sprint Cup until the 2000s, but it's not even called that anymore.

My father had a customer who owned a Torino GT with a 428. When my father rebuilt the engine , the customer told my father he wanted ME to test drive it because he was too old😂. He wanted me to test it because I was young and stupid enough to drive it like I stole it. I was in my early 20s. And I did just that. I was somewhat surprised to find that those old cars could speed up better than they could slow down. 😮. Gave me a good scare. Brakes have come a long way since then.

Living my car payments back in my youth! Started off with $52 per month for 2years, a Pontiac sedan with a bench seat and a factory ford spd. Next: after blowing the 1st @ the drag strip... Mother said I needed a better than 4.5 miles per gallon, and a reliable car for college: I said O.K. 68.5 Stang preliminary to the 69' boss 302 mustang on hydraulic camshaft... $67.10 per month for 24 months. You getting the idea? Had all kinds. Before that mustang... was considering a 67 shelby cobra hertz rental, but could not get insurance @ 17 yrs old. If I could it would have cost more per year than the 3k for the total cost of the car? Had a 455 cui.scj grand prix 4spd @ the gas crunch: odd/even getting 6miles per gallon. Traded it for a 74' Vega gt, then a V-8 monza, 75'. 76' trans Am. Ordered a 78' corvette, down payment: but dealer added $ 3,500 dealer markup. Had to wait over 6 months to get my deposit back. Bought a fully customized 78' 280z Great car, probably the best all around car... but missed being thriwn into the back when speed shifting into 2nd. So I bought a 71' 454 corvette roadster. Has not stopped... so on so forth. But the text is getting too long! Thanks for the deja Vu! May the LORD OUR FATHER GOD BLESS & KEEP YOU! AMEN! J

The VW and camper design that would let the VW rotate 360* without disconnecting the camper was a really good thought out and designed design at that time and all the way up to present day.
Maybe the "safety" aspect of the free movements of 360* of rotation while still being connected to the camper proved to be of some lethal safety concern was what caused the demise of the design.
Never the less,it looked and functioned flawlessly aspescially when any mobility to successfully position the combo anywhere almost anyone saw fit to park it.
Probably too good for the common tow design that it was deliberately crushed by everyone that saw fit to loose everything because of it.
    It tracks.

I lived across the street from this weinermobile in Capitola, CA for three years from 1988-91.

I'm not sure how many wienermobiles they have but they have a fleet of them and they scatter them across the country.

@@CAROLDDISCOVER-FINDER2525 I looked it up and, yes, there are 6 of these Chevy models. They were built in 1988 and still are in use.

@@TheRealBrook1968 well thank you. I wasn't sure how many there were. But I knew the wienermobile didn't pass me on a 5-hour driving trip. No way it could have got ahead of me. I guess what I'm saying I passed through one place and it was setting there and I passed through another place a few hours on the road and it was setting there on display. The kid inside me is little disappointed to know that there's more than one.

I think I like the lesser valued versions of these cars. There are various people who live near me that daily drive 60s mustangs, torinos, and coronets probably BECAUSE they aren’t the super rare expensive models. I think it’s so cool that they do this. Beats the boring black and white trucks and SUVs everyone else drives.

Most of these cars might be rare but I wouldn't call them odd or weird. I would call these classic and desirable. And I have seen several of these. If you want weird or odd do a video on Toyota!

Several of these cars aren't "weird" at all.
AMC Javelin debuted in 1968, not 1966.
