"Why couldn't she be the final girl?" Why did she have to be? Sam's motivation throughout the movie was to go home. To literally (and figuratively) get pizza. Her arc by the end saw her coming to terms with what was happening to her, find peace with it, and go out on her own terms, whilst also saving someone who had in turn helped her. It's a beautiful story, and it's sad that you would rather just have a trope.
I disagree. I think this movie was about a woman taking control of her own mortality. I thought having the main character of a survival movie be a terminal cancer patient was a really cool, unique idea. Sure, it was sad but not bleak.
Agreed. And it was about her grace and strength of character staring down the barrel of death. She even gained a follower in Quinn's character who clearly took one look at her and decided she was his best chance at survival. She had nothing to lose and didn't squander the opportunity to make her death mean something.
Thought it was a clever idea in an apocalypse movie where the world is faced with its mortality and impending doom, to be given the POV of someone who has already faced that reality for themselves
It’s so rare to see Lupita in a role in which she gets to have a happy ending. I’m so ready for Lupita to do some romantic comedies after watching this film.
Sarnoski understanded the hell out of this Universe. He turned it into an 11. A quiet place was always about humanity and what we can do together to survive. Fantastic, incredible movie.
Agreed. I really don't understand Grace saying he "didn't understand the assignment." What assignment? It's not like the other two movies were idiotic Steven Seagal popcorn movies. They were low-key thrillers with suspense, where the main focus was on character interactions.
As someone with chronic illnesses it's nice to see illnesses portrayed. Life can just be hard and sad but even with that you can make it happy in spite of the experience. Happy for Lupita
I thought this was a non spoiler review . Grace you are lucky I already watched the movie today but what happened to putting ‘Spoiler Review’ in the title like you normally do?!
Though I agree the film is sad, I think it’s fitting. It feels like the end of the world for these characters, because it kind of is. I felt that it was real, more than overly sad.
I agree it was sad but I was surprisingly touched by how Eric found peace with the cat and sam. I loved their relationship and how they helped each other. And I thought the ending was appropriate for how everything went down. I left the film feeling at peace for all the characters which is rare for the film like this
This was a piece of art, I’m happy it wasn’t a block buster and didn’t have a stereotypical happy ending. This movie was an about a woman who took control of her life despite of a shitty situation with grace, courage and dignity. I loved it
Not eating pizza that’s been sitting out for more than two hours is a ridiculously high standard… especially during an alien invasion. Luckily I have been building a healthy tolerance.
I remember a beautiful quote I saw about stories where we know the story is a tragedy, but we still make the journey because at a point she smiles, and yes she won't make it but it was worth it because of that smile.
Filmed in London doesn’t mean it the London streets lol. Its means in Leavesden where WB has one of the biggest studio space in the world. 25% of blockbusters released yearly film there regardless of the studios. People just say London because it’s close and most people never heard of Leavesden.
I was expecting a faster paced chaotic thriller, but it was split with a beautifully tragic human story, not what I thought I was getting but still enjoyed it
Grace, you should either put "spoiler review", "mild spoilers", or "non-spoilers" on this video. Watching it tonight with my wife. She’s an emotional person so hopefully she still gets to enjoy it. Also, by the way I could tell that she was sick on the previews.
I have a cat that does not meow and if she ever does you can barely hear her unless you are watching her do it. It is very odd never seen a cat not meow.
Wanted to see more action than sadness tbh. Like military action, how did they know they were afraid of water? Or how to be quiet? Like answer these unknowns 😭

I didn’t even noticed it was filmed in London however now that you say it, I think actually it made sense why I saw some buildings and I was like I don’t recognise those places from ‘New York’ .
Just saw the film today, and I really enjoyed the movie! It is bleak, but I consider that a theme of the entire series. The multiple commentaries on communication are very nuanced, and each installment is ambitious in their own respects. Like others have mentioned in the comments, I appreciated the arc of Lupita's character. She starts the film thinking everything is sh!t (poem) but then after SURVIVING one hell of a day, getting that pizza and finding the totem of her father, the character went out with a bang (jazz song). I am loving this series of films; thinking about what new innovative ways the creatives can twist this idea is fascinating. Loved that she helped try to save those kids and she took on the lawyer as a stray. BRAVO
A quite place has always been about hope and living. These two characters find that in this film. There's lots of feels, but if you are in touch with your own then you'll find the humanity depicted in this prequel.

I enjoyed A Quiet Place Day One. The tone was the same as the other two movies and it felt like it felt well in the trilogy. I did cry some during the movie, but it wasn't overwhelmingly sad. The movie did have lighter moments. I'd see it again.
Well being sad and depressing is part of the quit place universe it's a more emotional take on alien invasion genre and i absolutely loved it lupita was phenomenal and that kitty was so damn adorable

There are some fantastic shots (I'm still thinking of the puppet show scene) and to me the film had many positive messages within, specifically with how sometimes people who have already given up find a reason to keep going. I have never seen the other two movies but I feel like this movie was very similar in tone to the last of us, which is quite commercially successful. So this could be as well
I had a great deal of fun with this movie. Lupita "killed it," all her scenes were believable. When she was scared, I was scared. The male counterpart was good as well. The CAT stole the show. It was cute.
I did a double feature today. Caught inside out 2, second viewing, and then Quiet Place Day One. I don’t think I have any tears left 😭. Two amazing movies
i made the decision to see this movie when I saw those two at the oscars. just looking too cute! unfortunately this movie was pg-13 and its summer, so the kids were outside and they were THE WORST in the theaters so I wasn't able to get truly invested in the quiet place atmosphere the way I was supposed to. I love lupita, so any time shes in horror I'm there.
My favourite part of when Americans shoot films set in London and they think the House of Parliament, London Eye, Tower Bridge (of course they think its called London Bridge), etc etc are all basically right beside each other. Or they show them travelling by vehicle in one direction and then the complete opposite direction.
I have to disagree with the “final girl” argument. I was glad that the “dude” got to be the survivor in this movie. It’s so over done that the star female gets to survive where everybody else only gets death. It was refreshing. And, added bonus…(Stranger Things spoiler)….i was very happy that the survivor was Eddie 😊.
i think this movie was the largest in the franchise and i also feel that this movie was far more emotional than the first two, but I'm a cat dad. Saying goodbye is so universal, truth be told i was streaming tears for the last ten minutes, and another 20 minutes after. So sad
This movie deserves to be seen in a movie theater!! Trying to make sure to be really quiet like the characters really kept the tension going!! Lupita & Joseph are fantastic scene partners!!! I was rooting for Frodo the cat the whole way!!

I liked that it wasn’t super commercial but definitely a tear jerker
I was not worried about the cat. A cat has 9 lives but the fact that the cat didn’t meow once , I said no way 😂
cats are very adaptive to their environment and the kitty learns about the danger of meowing plus he used up about eight lives lol
actually cats meow to only human. they don't communicate with meow with any other creature. Meow is for cat to command human to get what they want. 😂
