@@kinyacat5919 most modern movies usually have an animal understudy. In the event one of the animals gets sick or needs to decompress they can continue the shooting schedule with little disruption. I don't recommend you research the history of the use of animals in film if harm to animals is a trigger. If you don't want to, or can't, look for yourself just know it used to be horrific and now it's not as bad.

I had a bit of that stress at the beginning too, but I'm starting to get the impression that most directors will only, uh, take out animals or small children at the start of the movie, if at all, because people just hate seeing it and it feels like a cheap source of tension. Most of the time. (I still haven't seen Bird Box because what happened to the dog in the book still gives me nightmares. Same deal with Knock at the Cabin.)

I love seeing the animals these days on the step and repeats. They did it for the new Sabrina, they also had the kitty from Ms Marvel do an interview, and even the actor who okayed Dog pool did the step and repeat and was at the premier 🩵😹

them deleting the scenes with josephs character is insane, the whole time im telling my friend "i think hes just following her and the cat cuz he has given up and the cat is all he has now" and i was literally correct- i wish they had kept that scene cause without it it makes it confusing why he is the way he is and you have to infer instead

My theory on why the Death Angels don't kill when hearing beating hearts is because after a while, they distinguish sounds of nature from much louder external noises. So noises like insects crawling, sounds of rain, and other noises, like human and animal heartbeats they understand are natural parts of the world they've entered. Unless that heartbeat makes an external noise, they'll not go for the kill.

@mrdavman13 I actually hardly ever watch movies or TV at all. But Amanda the Jedi videos, ALWAYS! So 95% of the time, I watch her review things, knowing full well that I will never actually watch it myself, as is the case with this movie. Her personality and charisma are just top-tier, and I truly love her content.
When certain media becomes popular enough, I am able to pick up enough breadcrumbs to at least develop a somewhat reasonable understanding of the premise and plot, so I can still appreciate her analysis and opinions.

My girl also yells in the middle of the night 😂 usually because she has a ball or gnome toy and everyone must see it. She’s very proud of her catch. It’s been 6 years and she’ll never not want to show us all between the hours of 10PM-2AM.

My chatty tuxie yells constantly, and sometimes it's in English! He says Mama, hello, and my mother swears she heard him say bull sh*t. He was upset cause we wouldn't let him outside. He has no survival instincts and wants to be friends with everyone (including the cats that would rather claw his face off.)
I've got three. They'd all get me killed, but in different ways. One would just immediately vocally complain. The second would not say anything but would accidentally knock something over - or just fall off of something, the giant, ungraceful dummy. The third would also not say anything but would knock all the things over ON PURPOSE.
I forgot to say that I love them more than life itself. I do, very much so, I'm just very aware of their extremely individual personalities. They're actual siblings - from the same litter, even! - but they couldn't be more different from one another.

As someone who lives near and spent a lot of time in the city, I'm not sure New Yorkers have the capacity to be quiet. I can just hear the cavalcade of swear words they would all IMMEDIATELY begin yelling at the aliens.

Just a note on your hospice comment- you can be on hospice care and still have your own place! My grandpa had in-home hospice care at the end, and it was just a little hospital bed and machinery setup in his apartment, with a nurse who'd come and care for him for a certain amount of time a day (my aunt was there the rest of the time). He even had his little chihuahua with him, too.
I could also imagine, if she's got a place on rent control, she might have been trying to figure something out and getting the apartment over to someone else as just an F-U to the landlords.
Yeah, en d of life care can and often does happen in-home. I think its actually the most common hospice, but its not talked about as widely as facility hospice so people don't know about it
I imagine she meant facility hospice as shown in the movie. Paying for two places is weird unless she recently moved into the facility.

As a person (and Black woman) who survived an aggressive cancer a few years ago at a young age, I am just so tired of people dying of cancer in movies tbh. I get it! It's an easy plot device. But I remember it was so exhausting going through chemo and the cancer person either died or is a John Green style manic pixie cancer patient. It's a trope I wish movies examined, I promise there are other illnesses!
Also my cat who got me through chemo would not survive a Quiet Place. My current idiot... well. Remains to be seen. He is spiritually an orange cat.

@@starlight8554 Ah, never read or seen it, but that would also make sense! People just also very frequently mix up the brothers, and Hank _was_ a pretty upbeat cancer patient (at least online) so it also fit 😂

I really wanted Sam to go back to that bar and play the piano at the end. They made such a big deal about making us aware it was a place her dad went and then didn't really do anything relating to her dad at it

I know we prefer our queer representation out in the open and its a shame a scene was deleted that implied Eric's sexuality BUT that being said there is no greater representation of queer identity than that run Eric did off the pier for Frodo. Spoke louder than any other scene could

A lot of people still remember that word being used as a slur and aren’t comfortable with their sexual orientation being blanket labeled with a word that has so much dark memories with it. It’s fine if you like to call yourself that, but could you please not mass label every gay or bi person with that word? 💗

@@Charming_Celestial there are also a lot of people who have had that word used against them that are happy to see it be reclaimed in this way (myself included!). I actually find it deeply healing to see "queer" be used as an inclusive umbrella term as the norm now. I know it's quite impossible to please everyone, but language is always going to change and evolve over time.

As a whole, I enjoyed it, but I really couldn't stand that had us in fear with the cat the whole time. I remember there was a scene near the beginning where I thought, "So, help me if they kill this cat after building the marketing around it, I'm outta here." I think I might like it better on a re-watch knowing Frodo's fine. But first time was a struggle.
I KNEW the little angel was going to survive but I still hated watching him go through any of it

I started to wonder if Frodo was actually a familiar.
And here I worried far less about the cat than the two little children who were “hiding” under the noisy fountain. They ended up blending into the crowd trying to get to the harbour…..which ended in disaster. That affected me more than how Frodo was doing.

Your point around 2:30/2:45 was the same issue I had. The newspapers he had seemed to imply that it took time to disocover how they track/took some time for the creatures to completely take over. But this movie seems to say, nah, we figured out they track with sound/can't swim in the first day.
Edit after watching the whole vid: I'd be dead as fuck, one of my cats meows occasionally, but the other one is the neediest, loudest, cutest bitch alive.
Also, do you know how _Noisy_ it is to print newspapers? 🤦🏼♀️
I thought the military was evacuating the city and blowing up the bridges because they weren't all over yet. I thought it was implying new York was the first place to get hit by the aliens
My theory is the newspapers weren't printed in new York or major cities. The death angels hadn't arrived and colonised the world in every place yet. But I don't see how distribution would have been possible
@@thefriesofLockeLamora It admittedly has been a while since I've seen the first movie (still haven't seen the second), and I could give you this. But like the first commenter said, printing and distributing newspapers would be... a feat. I still do have some issues with this explanation, mainly that I feel that radios might've still been broadcasting emergency message signals out, so I feel like the messages would have been received pretty far pretty quick.

god that backstory of Quinn's character would've made the movie so much more compelling. that's such an interesting set up. two people at the end of the world, one recently wanting to purposely die, the other having no choice but an imminent death. instead we got a bunch of shit just happening
What a shame they cut that scene developing Eric's character. Perhaps if he shows up in a future A Quiet Place film (which would be awesome) they could develop his backstory there. I know this movie isn't flawless. I am disappointed they didn't fulfill the day one chaos and mystery and help us learn about the monsters... but it was emotional, and I damn near cried by the end.
When you have fantastic performances on screen, with an emotional baseline underpinning action, great vfx; I'm more than happy to ignore just about all leaps in logic.
Would be a waste of characters not have both Eric and Frodo show up in the upcoming one.
I was so happy to see Lupita in another horror role, she and Frodo really stole the show. Her character was so empathetic and we don’t get perspectives like hers often. I love rhe exploration of life vs death vs living in movies
The Quiet Place series is a good entry point for people who fall under the “Scared of Horror Movies but Love the Concept of Monsters and Killers” category.
Outside the horror, the themes of family, sacrifice, and humanity are the true friends we made along the way. 😌

As someone who didn't expect anything from this movie, the scene in the bar and the magic trick may be one of the best movie scenes in a vacuum I have seen all year. This unspoken love between Sam and Erik was so beautiful, it nearly made me cry - I really shouldn't have expected anything else from the guy who made Pig, but oh well.
Same here! I was smiling while trying to hold back tears cause I was watching with someone who I didn’t want to cry in front of, or boy would I have 😂😭 such a sweet moment.
I usually avoid spoilers but watching Amanda freak out about the cat is the only way I can experience this movie without crying. I freaking love cats & I lost mine at the end of last year after 17+ years together almost 24/7 R.I.P. Frannie

For the newspapers, I just assumed the aliens only crashed in some cities and the papers were from places further away/ took longer for the aliens to impact?
My husband and I really enjoyed it, and in every scene we were reminded that our cat wouldn't survive at all xD

I loved this movie. In the theaters, since the movie is so quiet, every sound that you hear makes you think twice if it comes from the movie or not.

As someone with two cats: this is the only kind of thriller movie review I want from now on. One that follows the cat & if the cat is going to be ok.

Huh…my demon cat is actually very quiet when being held, even his purrs can be very low. The problem is, he doesn’t like being held unless you’re near constantly rocking/bobbing him like he’s a baby 😅
If you stop moving around for about 30sec-1min, he’ll start screaming and trying to wriggle away with his claws out, if you don’t immediately start rocking him and don’t let go, he’ll start biting. But if you manage to rock him before he bites, he’ll go back to be a quiet baby 😂
My other cat likes to just talk in general though, but he’s leash trained at least? He’s a black cat though and specifically likes to blend in with the dark and than throw his meows around so you can’t tell where he is….so maybe that would be useful? 🤣
My mother and I went to this and I asked her about it the other day and she said “I really liked that movie, even though I don’t like monster movies, but mostly because of the cat”
I work in a cinema so I even saw the cat alive at the end of the movie, before I watched the movie myself and I *still* had a small anxiety episode at the subway tunnel scene
This series feels very much like the birdbox duo. Like, its definitely good as a one off, can be fun as a duo, but then just gets more convoluted with more entries. Still waiting for the third birdbox to confuse me further

I don't know, Amanda. You bring me joy with your review style and you also tend to make me think about the stories from new angles. Plus you add things - like the cut scene - that I wasn't aware of. I think there's a great deal of value in someone that not only lifts others moods but also mentally feeds their brain in interesting ways. In a world as fraught as ours currently, things that aren't heavy and are engaging are worth a great deal and you deliver both in a relatable way. I would trust you with my cat if we were ever in New York being invaded by aliens. Even if I don't currently have a cat or live anywhere near New York.

Personally, I love this movie and all three of them, exactly because there is no background story for anyone, no big talks, no lore or narration which explains every little detail to the viewers. They tell the story with subtle looks and gestures and it makes every single detail so much more meaningful and deeper for me. I had no idea about Joseph's character's background story, but I loved the ambiguity of it. It's cool to know, but I didn't really need it, I still went through a roller-coaster of emotions XD

I have an old man who's hard of hearing, and he's always been a very vocal cat, but he's gotten louder and also likes to yell inside closets. Instant death.
I have a grouchy girl. She complains about everything (being picked up, other cats looking at her) and is the 1st to scream when she thinks it's meal time and she will not stop until she has food in her mouth. Instant death as well.
A little old man who is very chatty and does a lot of trills. Not overly loud for human ears, but definitely too much for aliens. Instant death.
A shy girl who doesn't speak often, but when she does she only knows SCREAM. Delayed death.
And lastly a little dust cloud who never figured out the human range of hearing and she meows super softly or even completely quietly. So it's nice to know I have one cat who would survive this specific apocalypse.
This is the type of horror content I need. Had to quit Hush because I was so stressed about that cat.
I've only seen "A Quiet Place," so I didn't realize we're already trilogy-deep into the franchise, nor that the creatures were given a name. They'll forever be simply "FASTCRABS" in my heart.
I considered all of the newspapers a plot hole for the first movie. Because there was no way those printing presses wouldn’t attract all the aliens
My husband brought up a good point with Joseph Quinn's cut backstory. It was probably done to avoid an R rating as that can be a sensitive subject and would affect the net gross of the movie once released.
Still, shitty it was cut from a story point of view...
As an owner of 3 cats, two of which were stray adopted from the street and last survivors of their litter, the survival of Frodo was literally the only thing I cared about.

I liked Eric and Sam's strong friendship, it gave me all of the emotional feels. Also, it's likely a fluke that Sam's cat is named Frodo, unless she's a Lord of the Rings fan.

I have the perfect cat to survive in this universe! She's not mute (she purrs and makes very quiet thrills), but she may as well be as she never vocalizes - she uses her front paws to express needs, it's the cutest thing ever! ...My second cat on the other end... Yeah, we'd be dead pretty quickly.
I have two little dogs (25 pounds put together) and they’d get me killed so fast ):
They’re perfect size & weight to carry one in each arm but my mini dachshund is fearless, he has barked at bears before

@@mndrew1 and it’s not just the pizza. It’s the idea of enjoying a pizza that she used to have with her Dad, when she would go to the club to see him play. She simply wanted to relive the good moments in her life before her inevitable death. That’s why she happily ate the pizza from the other pizzeria, as she was enjoying it in the old jazz club.

i was expecting it to be a "bigger" movie but it was just as small as the others...i was expecting more from it, but maybe the fourth one will deliver
Most horror movies aren't scared to kill off the majority of the cast but apocalypse movies actually make you happy they survive in the end, especially this one where it's about human connection.
I very much loved this installment and I wasn’t expecting to. The emotions were so genuine, the performances by Lupita and Joe were fantastic, I felt like over all the theme and message were written beautifully (especially that little moment where we see that the yellow sweater belonged to Sam’s dad!). I don’t think any installment is going to be better than the first but I felt like this one wasn’t trying to outdo or replicate the original, it felt like it was really pulling its own weight to be something that stands out on its own while paying reverence to the idea and heart of the first film
The dumb sounds that do not attract the monsters, and it makes me crazy, is steps. Like, the monsters hear some super quiet shit, but then don't hear normally loud sounds...
That's why I can't watch movies like this one, they are not consistent in how the aliens work. Can they hear even the smallest sounds or not? If they do, then humanity would be screwed, period.
This just makes me thankful I have a bubble cat backpack so I can take my cat safely with me.

Mildly unrelated but as a dog lover I felt that way rewatching Widows yesterday, movie kept putting that sweet angel baby in peril
I did search for spoilers of if the cat survived the movie, and I heard it did, so when watching I would get worried about the cat, but just be fully sure that the cat would do better than the people. It was a very quiet cat.

Frodo is the chillest cat to exist, maybe ever, in fiction or reality.
I would have loved that deleted scene. Quinn's character is still someone I feel for by the end but I was constantly asking myself why is this dude so clingy. I gotta see if they have any justification for taking that scene out, the runtime isn't even that long.
The absolute moment Amanda started showing the cat videos, one of my cats looked up from grooming, yowled, and ran over to the couch to demand attention. I would get merced by the monsters SO fast, lol
What makes it easier for me to handle animals in stressful situations is remembering they are paid actors. Like that cat most definitely got its fair share of treats and attention.
For me, the movie wasn't about the monsters. It's never been about the monsters is about humans. I think the first movie is about family and the sacrifices we make for them. The second movie is about growing up, the two kids finding their own strengths, and also sacrifices. And this movie was about life, what it means to live a full life, that its about connections. It was about her going through the steps of grieving but for herself. I think that's why the first and last ones hit harder because they had deeper meanings. I was crying tears of joy by the end, like crying hard.
I feel like a World War Z (novel) deconstruction of the A Quiet Place universe would be way more interesting. Show us the military setting of air raid sirens in a town remotely to draw the death angels in and then nuking them. Show us the successor state forces in padded gear with fully silenced subsonic single shot 20mm rifles with exploding bullets. Show us the modified Abrams tanks with extra armor sharpened tungsten spikes and speakers to serve as mobile death traps. Show us how larger settlements soundproofed and fought off initial waves. The domed cities and government mandated sign language training. Or a future city where they still have noise level mandates long after the threat is gone.

An Easter egg I saw was the book she knocks over, " Happiness Falling" by Angie Kim.
I think I didn't mind the world building missing some aspects since we already got that in the previous movies.
I do wish there was a scene along the lines of rats scurrying around near the death angels, without problem, then one of the rats squeaks and BAM! Creature says no way José.
One thing that many, many people don't seem to get from the films (including Amanda here):
It's not "high frequencies" that the aliens are weak against. It's one very specific frequency. Kinda like how everything has a resonance frequency that weakens it when you play that same frequency back at it.
I can't believe I didn't realise until I watched this... Sam has a cat called Frodo. Sam has to carry and protect Frodo.

A lot of Cat, and no Kids as main characters. As a mom of kids and cats, I approve and applaud this choice. The first two movies and all the babysitting around aliens are way too stressful for me to go back to. Let the kitty cook 😌

I'm all of the people running while the cats are yelling for sure. Honestly I wouldn't even get to running, both of my boys meow when I pick them up. RIP us I guess.
When I saw this movie it was in a completely empty theatre and it made it 10x more tense. Also every time the scene changed and I couldn't see the cat I immediately assumed it was dead

The main thought I had the whole time was how the crap did they find a cat who never made a sound. I've never known a silent cat. I also wondered how the cat held its breath.

not worth anything? with all the movies you've watched and books you've read, you'd be a vital part of any community! stories are an integral part of human survival, always have been. In this new world you couldn't rely on the internet or movies anymore, and a lot of books were probably destroyed as well

For those wondering about why Frodo seemed to be chill throughout the movie I heard that Frodo was essentially a service animal for Sam and I know service animals are trained to not cause a commotion (like bark or meow at everything/everyone) but I could be misremembering, if anyone has any additional information about this leave a comment
I spoil ending for a second:
I was actually on the verge of tears when they finally arrived at the destroyed pizza place. I know it's super small, but there was so much personal weight put on this place that meant so much to her, and I felt I'd be the same way in the scenario. If the world was ending, I'd want to go somewhere nostalgic and important to me that I know I won't be able to experience again and to see that all that work they went through to get here just for reality to say "no you're not allowed that" just hit me. And I anticipated it too, but it still hurt to see
the generator scene is stupid not because of the shirt but because if he didn't try to turn it off - the alien just would destroyed it and move on without killing anyone
As a cat lover, I had to leave the theatre. After months of “prepping” my mental and making sure the kitty lives, I still was too panicked to finish the movie. I’m embarrassed but also grateful for people like you.
