Crane Train Meets Commuter & Freight UP Chicago West Line

This was something really neat to see! A UPRR work train with heavy duty rail crane, a old CNW bay window caboose, and a mysterious flatcar conveyor system. I'll speculate that this work train was out at the Fox River, in Geneva, to help put in the third track over the river (Let me know if anyone knows the assignment! TY!). I recorded these clips in Elmhurst Illinois, near Myrtle Avenue (I was where the lumber yard used to be....). In any case, the train halted almost directly in front of me. (The Crew got a laugh as I hobbled around trying to get these clips). So, the work train is stopped and then both the freight and the Metra come up at the same time!. The Metra was Outbound on Track Three, the work train on Track Two, and the freight was using Track One. The stop was very brief but it worked out well as a ice part of rail history!

This is cool catch. Hmm...🤔It has been a while since I've been to Elmhurst. I should make a day out of it and drive to Elmhurst to do some railfanning there on the weekend. I wonder why I don't do it more often since I only live 50 minutes north of Elmhurst, come to think of it. 🤷‍♂

Elmhurst can be fun if you know when the freights are running. During the Rush Hours, it is pretty much all Metra. But from ten to two you would see a lot of freight. Elmhurst is also fun as our neighbor is the Proviso Rail Yard is our neighbor. This is huge as the trains are either slowing for the yard, or speeding up as they leave the yard. It's easier to grab detail than further out west where the trains are doing track speed. Thank-You for viewing and commenting...!!!
