I'm guilty of buying arrows for 40 years, but have always wanted to see what it took to make arrows. That was very informative! I'm within days of retiring and may have time to enjoy the process. Beautiful arrows, by the way!!
Great job explaining your process. I like it! Back when Grizzly heads first came out I started using them. I always had left fletching. The first single bevels were right bevel. That's what I had and used for many years before learning that it was better to match the bevel with the spinning arrow. Like you I still killed critters and had great penetration. I even shot through an antelope humerus bone splitting it and then penetrating ribs and the heart before stopping on the opposite shoulder. That was with a 50# longbow and 500 gr arrow. Another time I shot a doe from a tree stand with a similar combo and the arrow passed through and stuck in the ground. I really enjoyed your explanation of using the fletching tape. I had tried it about 20 years ago and didn't like it. I guess I just didn't know the tricks to using it right. I'm not sure but I think from info gleaned many years ago that if you use polyurethane finishes Duco works best (if using regular type glue) and if using lacquer then the bohning platinum works best.
I use a rag with both the stain and finish but separate. I get by with my black widow recurve all 3 feathers are same and it goes around the handle no matter which way I nock it. I tried a release on my recurve bow too. Worked great. No longer had to worry about finger release being perfect. I had a stroke and that changed things.
Hooorah for fletching tape! 😁 I adhere tape to fletching in same manner by holding fletching in clamp whilst applying tape. And, yes, very very few problems with tape adhering to shaft.

I have told folks about that and watched there jaws drop!!! If they match great but if the don't they still work. Appreciate hearing your story too!
