Wow!! Would love to visit Sad Hill location, whenever watching the cemetery scene and listen to the haunting music it always sends a shiver down my spine. Sergio Leone was one of a kind.
How can we forget such a beautiful film, ever made in entire world's film industry?.I miserably fail to understand whether we will witness such beautiful film again in our lives.
Just recently got back from visiting Sad Hill so I fall into the former category at the start of this clip. All I'll say is; it's way better when you are there - other worldly almost.

What a stupendous effort by a group of volunteers to restore what had been nothing more than an abandoned cow pasture a few years before. I need to watch the documentary on Netflix to get a better idea how they managed to pull this off. Unfortunately, at age 74, a visit to Sad Hill isn't in the cards for me. so the video is a great substitute. BTW, Eli Wallach died in 2014 at 98 years of age, and his one and only wife of 66 years, Anne Jackson, died in 2016 at age 90, just a month earlier than the fiftieth anniversary of the theatrical release of the film in 1966. Eli Wallach never drank and never smoked. Their marriage was one of the longest among Hollywood stars. I rather doubt we'll ever see it happen again.
Eli Wallach was almost killed in real-life doing this movie. When he was laying on the side of that train track with the chain on the track, when the train went past, a wooden step on the train just missed his head. When the bridge was blown-up near the end of the film, Sergio Leone went mad because when the bridge was blown-up not a single camera was rolling so the bridge had to be re-built and the later scenes were filmed while the bridge was being re-built.
Looks a lot more believable now that ALL of the mounds are overgrown. In the film, every single grave was fresh, which didn't match the age of the stone circle and other funeral statuary. Nice. Mucho thanks to those who did the restoration.
I would love to know just this one thing: Who's idea was it to let a dog 🐕 loose on set when Tuco was going into Sad Hill? It seemed to have scared Tuco as well as the dog, but it was just a nice touch for that moment! Or was it by accident 🤔, and Leone just kept it to look authentic because he could have just retook the scene...🤯
@@ianharrison2490 If that was what it was then thanks for clearing that up for me. I always wondered about how that stray dog made it into that scene. It was cool for Leone to just keep it the way it was instead of reshooting it without the dog 🐕! Thanks
From what I've heard, it was Leone's idea, just to add more spice to the scene. He wanted Eli Wallach to look authentic, thus he kept the dog as a "secret surprise". Wallach's reaction is genuine as he was scared of dogs in general...
@@manofharlech5775 Thanks! This scene with the dog ALWAYS made wonder: Why is there a stray dog in the scene? What's its purpose? Did it just wander on to the scene, and Leone just decided to keep it in the filming because if it just wandered in to ruin the scene then Leone would have called, "Cut! Cut! Cut!" Anyway, it was a nice touch to make it look real
When Blondie approached Tuco with the shovel, his shadow crossed right over Tuco's hands, but Tuco only reacts after the shovel lands near his hands. When Angel Eyes repeats the same stunt he casts no foreboding shadow.
Who knows how many "takes" it took before they got it right without hitting Tuco. Besides, we only see an arm throwing the shovel so it could be a stunt double, not Angel Eyes himself.
Hi Jeff...Great Job on this!!!.... Would you consider allowing me to use a couple of your shots from this in my Documentary "Too Much blood and Treasure"? , (for the customary stock footage fees paid to you of course).... My teaser trailer that I want to revamp and include some Sad hill shots is here on TH-cam....Thanks for the kind consideration!!!
Great movie but there are other places in Spain I'd rather visit. I'm not about to spend thousands of dollars in plane fare, accomodations, car rental and food to go see a cemetery. The only exceptions to visiting a cemetery are Arlington National Cemetery and the memorial cemetery near Omaha Beach.
Captain 1985 it's good to visit cemetaries to remind us where we're going so that we appreciate and value our earthly existence and being appreciative of this reminder brings back childhood memories where you could watch these spaghetti westerns and play cowboys and crooks afterwards and it is for this timeless feelings that no price tag can be attached to it...
this is the best western ever made.....
This and The Searchers with John Wayne. Priceless films.
1 The good the bad & the ugly
2 for a for dollars more
3 fistful of dollars
3 best Western movies
I absolutely agree 👍
Yes!

Italians do it better...
I went last month during a two night stopover in Sto Domingo de Silos. Nobody else there except the wife and I so it was eerily quiet and peaceful.
and so was Morricone!
That’s great they restored it!!
Good one to watch it's on my bucket list to visit thanks for sharing your film brilliant 😎

@@edwardx4979 The dogs whimper when spooked by Tuco seems authentic. Can't see a dog being rehearsed to act that part lol.
I’m glad they restored it!
Can't help but notice how close the shovels come to doing Eli Wallach a serious hand injury.
And a head injury

@@thanhdanhvu5886 I noticed that too. Angel Eyes a little off on his aim.
I wondered why a shovel came from nowhere, but possibly undertakers accidentally lost it there.
We notice that this film was best known from this culture. Living after up to 50 years
Good job the Best western
Is there really an unknown grave beside Arch Stanton's grave? or has everyone dug it up?
Just wondering if there's any more gold buried there 🤔 Asking for a friend...
awesome video
When you have to visit, visit, don't talk!

there's a hotel there ??!! It should be called "sad hotel"

Na minha opinião o melhor !
It always amazed me how little Leone cared for safety issues. Angel Eyes almost hits Tuco with that shovel thrown where he is digging.
I always wondered about that.

Esta en un pueblo de burgos, llamado contreras..en la carretera de burgos soria...
There is a documentary on Netflix about the restoration of the set!
Yup I was watching half of it, very
Informative
Loved it!
Maybe the best film ever
Has Clint Eastwood revisetted the place yet?
Wonderful thank you
Spain was the movie set but; it was the American Civil War so this was a grave yard in the Southwestern United States, somewhere "unknown".
there are to kinds of people that visit sad hill cemetery those that are alive and those that are dead!!!
Ah dude this is my dream now! Honestly I thought it was somewhere in Utah, New Mexico or Texas. Considering that's where most Western movies are shot.
A lot of western movies were shot in Spain.
The best wesyern the world of different culture has seem to date
Best Western of all time
Wasn't the cemetary called Sand Hill?
Wil Hobbs No it’s Sad Hill!

I saw this movie the first time in the early seventies and have seen it many times since then. It’s “Sad Hill Cemetery”.

Cap, go to Bilbao to see the Guggenheim Museum, then take a train to Madrid, getting off half-way to visit the cemetery.
@Captain 1985, you surely can do whatever you like, and certainly I don’t mind your point of view if you’d visit Sad Hill cemetery or not.
