Great reaction video, sir. "Stay on These Roads" is from their 1988 album of the same name. Nice to watch a-ha from my home country of Norway. I've been a fan since I was 15 (I'm 54 now). First concert in 1985. Was at the concert in Oslo in May 2022, and they still sound fantastic.
Morten was 56 at the Nobel Peace Concert,he is 64 today. And he has played it smart over the years,he knows that he cant fight the vocal power fading away with age that he once had,but he can compliment the songs differently to still make them sound good. And if i am to throw my 2 cents in there: Morten has maintained his voice at such a "matured age" better then most of the rockstars that are at his age today or even younger! Morten swears to a healthy diet, and if i remember right,he only drink healthy liquids too, because he takes his vocal instrument seriously,as well as his health of course. I think that is key for how good he still sounds today,i think other vocalists just take it for granted that they will be able to sing until theyr health tells them "enough is enough". Well, many of them out there is actually embarassing to listen to. To name a good example,Axl Rose should have retired a long long time ago. He can barely be heard over the instruments theese days, and that while the man is trying to scream like he used to. Sometimes its better to retire early,so that your fanbase can remember you going out while still "somewhat on top". In regards to Mortens versatile vocals, one of his best performances is said to be his early title track soundtrack "Kamilla Og Tyven" (Kamilla And The Thief),for a movie he also starred in himself, where his character fell in love with another female character, played by the Canadian actress Maria del Mar. Songs that the majority of people tend to not have heard before (trying to include the ones that has a music video, much more if i should include those without) I Call Your Name,Lifelines , Summer Moved On (wich got Morten into the guinnes world of records, for the longest sustainable note in a pop song, and he still has the record till this day) Minor Earth Major Sky,The Blood That Moves The Body,Touchy! ,Early Morning and since you loved Stay On These Roads so much, here is a real diamond of a song that barely gets any recognition: Angel in the Snow. An absolute masterpiece! And if you want more range: Dark is the Night for All. I could keep going, theyr catalogue seems endless of hits! Therefor it never stops making my day to see people react to them, and beyond Take On Me. As this band going on for 41 years and counting with the original lineup, continues to be criminally underrated! Some countries look at them as 1 hit wonders, and that baffles many of us that has been with them our entire lifes up till this point.
Hi Mike…nice to see you back doing a-ha again…and one of their best loved songs. It may be Morten’s vocals in the spotlight…but it is all Magne’s in the writing of the melody and lyrics…it’s his masterpiece I think. Thanks for listening to both of these versions…we all have our favourite live ones, I do love this 2015 Nobel one…and it is almost 30 years after the original recorded one! Thanks again..and don’t stay away from us for so long…there is plenty of material still to review so can’t wait to see what the second one today will be, if it’s from True North I hope it’s either Between The Halo & The Horn, or Forest For The Trees. 😘😁
I'm a little late to comment...but here I am, present! 😅 Stay On These Roads is definitely a major piece of A-HA's repertoire. It's a song that doesn't touch me as much as some others on the same album, but I recognize that it has great musical qualities and, what about Morten's breathtaking vocal performance... As for the live version, I appreciate it for its timeless and elegant side thanks to the addition of the large orchestra accompanying the group. It's simply beautiful and harmonious, easy to listen to. Very happy Mike to see you again doing reactions to the songs of A-HA! A nice gift for this end of summer 🌞... And, speaking of summer, two suggestions for musical pieces from the latest True North album; Bumblebee (written by Paul, musically different and very interesting) and Summer Rain (written by Magne, moving). 🎶🥰🎶
Couple years ago I made a compilation cd with different A-ha songs and I found so many that I never heard before and loved them. They are so much more than just the song Take On Me they have so many great songs Stay On These Roads is a great example. I also love Forever Not Yours, Turn the Light Down, Velvet, I Wish I Cared all great songs and they have so many more really great ones.
So glad you're back again and reacting to an a-ha song, and seeing you play guitar along with an a-ha song is special. ❤ Stay On These Roads is one of the best ballads ever composed it is also one of my favorite a-ha songs. Some music experts said about Stay On These Roads "This is the perfect pop song" and they are absolutely right. Morten's voice and singing on this song is just perfect and so emotionally overwhelming that you feel like you are part of the music or the story that is conveyed through the lyrics. A-ha have performed at several Nobel Prizes (which unfortunately has always been hidden by advertising in the States). For the Nobel Prize performances, the band often slowed down their songs as the Nobel Prize Show is broadcast worldwide and reaches a wider audience of all ages. I think the songs are therefore somewhat "flattened". In other live performances the songs more like the studio Version (they are mostly more rocky and better than the Studio versions)
Thanks for showcasing Aha. i am always sad that they are not better known here in the USA. I grew upinEurope and they are superfamous there. But lately a lot of people here in the US are getting to know them and love them which is great. I think at that time Morten would have been in his mid 50s give or take? It is amazing how he can still do what he does. and he can
Lovely surprise on a beautiful autumn day to get this up in the feed. This is my all time favorite from a-ha. So soft and smooth, and just as you said - sad and at the same time full of hope. I think your reaction was great, and I agree, the base is wonderful. It definitely is Mortens show, although it is Magne's masterpiece more than anyone. The title tune from True North has been described by many as Stay on these roads all over again. There are some similarities, but I don't see it as the same song. Magne says it's a sister song, and I love it almost as much as this one. Otherwise, I previously suggested Rolling Thunder (from the same album), and I do so again.
Hey my friend! I thank you for your comment, and also wanted to say that I too noticed the similarities of True North to Stay on these roads. That reaction has just been uploaded (although I filmed them back-to-back)
I'd be happy if I could sing like that at 56! Beautiful song... as you said - one of those that grows on you with time and pops up in your mind when you're emotional and need a pick-up... ⚘
Hey Mike. Love your work on A-ha. I’ve been a fan of A-ha for 35 years. I perform live some of their songs and truly love them. Saw them twice in concert and was so blessed to take my girls to see them live in New York couple years back. Point is. No matter how much I know and love A-ha, you always find a way to highlight something in a song I didn’t pick up on or I didn’t appreciate as much until you pointed it out. Love your work. Glad to see your safe and back. Cheers!
I m A-ha fan for decades now. Stat on these roads is my favourite song. I suggest to do a vocal reaction on a Belgian singer called Jasper Steverlinck. The ones loving Morten’s voval will appreciate Jasper’s voice for sure.
Very beautiful song. I really like the live version with the live orchestra. Good to have some more A-ha. Oh, and never apologize for having an exciting life to live aside from your great reactions here, you’re awesome to us! I know you have been doing a new Greta Van Fleet song about once a month, so I’m hoping you go with either Frozen Light, The Archer, or Indigo Streak next. You’re gonna love all of those!
Hey Gayle! Well I wouldn't say my life is traditionally exciting, unless you're someone who enjoys being in scorching Temps while doing cardio 😅. So I actually already recorded the next GVF reaction, and it wasn't any of those, but I'll try to get one of those up soon!
Hi Mike.... a great live version of stay on these roads but wasn't the full version... I think the best performance that I've heard by A-ha singing Stay on these roads is from their ' Ending on a high note ' Live DVD.... absolutely stunning vocals from Morten and probably my favourite performance on it.... if you have time check it out 🍻🍻🍻👍
The easier "Live at Vallhall" version is amazing, but it doesn't have the grandeur as you mentioned. I would say the same for the song "Scoundrel Days" which in my opinion is one of A-ha's greatest, as well as Morten's most amazing vocals.
When it comes to the album True North Album please also react to "Summer Rain" 🙏, "True North", "You Have What It Takes", "Forest For The Trees", "Make Me Understand" ❤
The music industry in the US screws us up by only showing us maybe 2 songs from bands from other countries and making us believe they are one hit wonders when they are profound and playing for years around the rest of the world. I only found their many albums and other bands while searching the internet.
Stay On These Roads What More Can I Say About This Great 👍 Song That As Not Been Said Before. Just Listen And Weep 😭 It’s All About The End Of Time And It’s Just So Sad 😭 And Happy 😆 But Brilliantly Done 👍 By The Morten Harket. 💕❤️⚡️💫😎✊🤞🥲☝️💓✨⚡️💕❤️💓💭😆💫✊⚡️😎👑👍😭😭😭😭😭⚡️💫✨💕❤️💭👀👀Morten ✨💫⚡️⚡️💫✨💭😭❤️💕🏴🙃✊😎💓💕😭⚡️💫
Heartbreakingly beautiful ... as many A-ha songs. ❤ They will never ever bore me. Love them to pieces.
This music is too underrated 😢
Thank you a-ha for giving us this work of art!!
Magical. "The song is sad. The message is hopeful." So well said.

One of my favorite A-ha songs ❤ Great reaction as always!
It's my favorite song from a-ha, my segund favorite song is Rolling Thunder.
A-ha forever.
"Dark is the Night For All" by a-ha in Johannesburg in 1994 is another brilliant one!
Brilliant performance 👍👍
Morten harket perfection

When I was 13 y.o. I heard it on the radio and that was it for me. This is how I discovered a-ha and fell in love with them for ever.

The lyric that is haunting is, still born by choice.
