Everyone always talks about the two guitar players from this band but everyone always forgets about just how good Eddie Jackson is as a bass player. His playing and tone where always the thing that made it for me with this band. just a monstrous sound from Eddie.
GT is one of the best vocalists of (prog)metal. And what everyone says about him now is such a disgrace for his work so far. This version is a very nice tight one.
He has some much credit built up its not that big of deal. Do it for years on end and a voice will break down. I've seen him do it plenty of times live...and he invented that awesome intro. What the hell have you ever done? Half of Tate is still better than most out there. The dude has legacy that is unmatched.
@@darrindefouw4330 July 27 and 28, 2001, the Moore Theater, Seattle Washington. It was professionally shot and released as a DVD called “Live Evolution”.
wow coming back to this after 11 years I can't say I have the same affection I did back then for Tate. His ability to hit high notes is almost gone completely.
This was the last good-sounding incarnation of Queensrÿche. In truth, the band was never the same after DeGarmo left. And now that Tate is no longer with them, they are just another generic rockband 😐
Clearly you never gave the 3 albums they have done with Todd so far a proper chance. Generic rock band? No. They are back to playing Metal like they should be.
@@austinspitler9177 I do think they're great METAL albums, but not Queensryche albums. Geoff and Chris were such a huge part of getting that special Queensryche touch that these albums miss
omitted probably due to the insane scream in the beginning. Geoff had lost his higher range long before this performance. I mean he still hit very high, just not crazy high like in the early/mid 80's. you hear that 3:22 scream is also lower than in the original version.
You're right!! You could hit pots and pans and these idiots would thumbs up!! No Degarmo, no double bass, no octave range any more and guitars are not tuned together.
Let's be real, this isn't the best performance of this amazing song. It's too slow, Scott avoids every double bass pattern and vocals are clearly tired overdubbed (See 4:12). Check out Tokyo '84 and Montreal '86 to see young Geoff killing it beautifully. Nowadays Todd La Torre also spits out those E5s like they were the easiest notes ever.
@@madpriest7822 It's certainly better, at least from an instrumental point of view. That band is better at playing a classic Queensryche song than Queensryche themselves in 2001. As for the vocals... Geoff is trying and that makes me happy. His pitch sounds a little off on the higher notes ("it's the EeEnd of your precious life"), and his E5 has developed a gruff sound, but at least he can still reach it!
Your wrong. Those notes aren’t overdubbed or tired sounding. Youre just stuck listening to early 80s Ryche instead of appreciating seeing a band mature like an extremely fine wine.
@@Butchy1 Please check the timestamp I posted. If this isn't overdubbed to you, than you don't know what overdubbing is. The more I watch it, the more shocked I am that they didn't edit out this take in post-production. Now, "maturing" is quite subjective, isn't it? To me, the mature thing would be to downtune the guitars at least half a step so Geoff wouldn't sound like he's struggling. Aging happens to everyone and I don't hold it against the guy, but this was not a good performance. It's slow, devoid of the cool double-bass arrangements of the original, and clearly outside of the singer's comfort zone.
One of the best bands in the universe but they can never catch up with their first two albums. After second album "Rage for Order" they were in a constant decline.
@@TheWitchOvAgnesi I think their best was 2nd album. I also heard Operation Mindcirme in its time and never liked it. I think it is shallow and lacked originality.
That doesn't have anything to do with that i said. Some like consistency. Slayer isn't locked into a style, they love their sound, and have loved it since the beginning, hence, if it ain't broke don't fix it. ACDC is not riding back in black lol, they have a HUGELY popular sound, and they can sell out anywhere, anytime. I'm not really into either of them, but its the truth. I like the early QR, but the later stuff is too emotional and moody. I wish they stayed hard.
I used to miss the whole intro when they played live. Not anymore, thanks to Todd they can finally play the intro like was recorded. Love Tate, but that's the truth
I put Tate behind Dickinson and Halford as greatest vocalists, only because Tate squandered his voice. If he has kept his voice in shape, he would have surpassed both of them.
He's been doing this for almost 30 years at the time of this video. He's OLD, so it makes sense that he's getting tired. WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT HIM BEING A HUMAN?
I will say this. .Geoff Tate's voice is probably the best you will ever hear in heavy metal
th-cam.com/video/QCJWR-M_KOE/w-d-xo.html
No, Dio had the best voice
Opinion brother.
✌👊😎
Bruce Dickinson is better.
Roy Khan is the best :D :D

Also his backup vocals!!!
The guy who taught me to play guitar dropped it for the bass because of this tune and Jackson.
Rockenfield too!
Geoff Tate...the voice...THE VOICE
Watch Queen of the reich live in Tokyo...you will hear a voice!
AMEN or LIKEWISE!
Tate.... Incredible back in the day!
Listening to this song 10 minutes before bedtime was a bad idea.
I'm all jacked up.
Well, one more time can't hurt?
-dude same here!!!😜😜😜
Dude it again

Go check some live versions of 2022, he still has it!
one of my fav song since high school 1986 till now
great performance, awesome song, amazing band, such a pity though.
Their first and one of the best song! I luv it!
MAN I DIDNT KNOW THAT QUEENSRYCHE HAD SONGS LIKE HEVY METAL !!! THATS SOO NICE ... I KNEW JUST 2 ALBUMS.. EMPIRE AND HEAR IN THE NOW FRONTIER
Craig Weidner yep I
Second that
Damn! GT the one and only Queensryche frontman.
Deliciously heavy and seminal - marvellous stuff!!

the only thing bad about geoff is his temper hes a douchebag
Not many can belt it out live like Geoff Tate.
This was a bit ago, but it gave me goose bumps!
the intro is pretty much beginning of the awesomeness... its like the adrenalin kicks in... :D
Absolutely the best voice in rock
Geoff Tate amazing vocals. During 80s I'm using to hear Queensryche bcos of Geoff Tate..
The best vocal of The Wold! I love !
Muy buen tema de Queensryche, para mi el mejor (the best).
Me remonta al año 1984, me encanta...
I was at these shows, and they sounded even better live than this recording does.
Where/when was this? I want to see the rest.

incredible singing talent ..probably the best metal vocalist in the business

Awesome!!
Kick ass performance!
there is one very underrated vocalist, check out Kai Hansen, singer of Gamma Ray and other bands. His voice is unlike any other.
Check out Pumpkins United which has Helloweens three frontmen on the same stage. Also check out the guy with the pink guitar.

GTs voice is unique
One of the best.
Is that Robbie Knievel? Wow! He pulled off the stunt his dad never could. lol
Guysss, Him in 2022-2023 is a lot better, hell of come backkkk, watch Queen of the ryche in 2022-2023

The REAL deal ! TATE !
Best thing about You Tube is getting turned on to new music!
I love you!!!🔥
Technically Freddie Mercury is the best……but Geoff is a top 5 guy definitely……one of my all time favorites….
I'd say Tate is even better than Mercury (as a vocalist).
Man this is crazy, over and over
God is good, God is great. Let us thank Him for Geoff Tate

This is even better than the studio version
THE BEST !!!!
actually the lady wore blck was their first song.

I wish they would have stayed on this path more - get heavier, not lighter man!!
Yeah, Empire sounded a bit too light
I will always say rage was the peak of queensryche because it was heavy and progressive

Scott Rockenfield
