- Another tale from Dwarf Fortress telling about dwarven fortress Zasrimad, Crystaltactics, and dwarves living there. Lots of interesting stuff happened there, vampire-dwarves (and cats) included.
Took some time to make this into a video, i hope you like this.
Music:
1) Almófar - Han Som Reiste (Burzum cover)
2) Samurai Jack battle theme @Genndy Tartakovskyn
Sound clips: freesound.org, Lord of the Rings-RotK
All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality.
The elvish emissary looks like Samurai Jack.
Thanks :D I was just thinking who is he reminding me of.
I said that too!
Is it? You sure?
yes! It appeared twice in Samurai Jack episodes, first half in one episode and rest of the music in another, so had to edit and cut and make it whole, thus annooyingly the epic sound of marching army disappears!
was just going to say that !! :-D
That forgotten beast laugh is absolutely terrifying
Back for my yearly rewatch, I can't believe this is nine years old already. Still holds up great! Dwarf Fortress is out on Steam now (who'd've thunk that'd ever happen!?) with mouse support, to boot! I hope you'll revisit it again at some point. Our favorite story generator is better than ever.
I know this was 10years ago, but I loved every second!
And then one day, as the ever slowing passage of time took it's toll on Armok's patience, the world seized to exist.
The animation and art style are unique and surprisingly detailed. Sound effects are spot on and the music fits. Best Dwarf Fortress animation on youtube.
Can I ask what programs you use for these?
Sorry for late reply, i used EasyToon + Windows Movie Maker (2.6). Free programs. Someone said it looks like it was made by calculator :)
Its perfect. Fits with the Dwarf Fortress into and makes it look like an old DOS game.
@@RiqCrow It does look like it was made on a calculator, and *that's a compliment!* Honestly the aesthetic is perfect for that old DF vibe, and your use of the incredibly limited palette shows obvious talent with drawing and composition. Was shocked to see this is 9 years old! With all the attention DF is getting with its resurgent Steam Launch, you're definitely going to be getting more traction on your old videos - and we'd certainly love to see more!
Awesome work, subbing for whatever else you end up publishing over the years, and already enjoying the rest of your back catalogue.
Happy to stumble upon this again! 😁
...again? 👀
@@RiqCrow Video was cool years ago, and is still cool now :D
Moria with competent dwarves
even after 7 years that made me laugh XD
@@manel1906 oh man times don't change, 7 years and I'm still here watching youtube lol
I laughed really hard when I noticed the elf has the face of Samurai Jack :D
This animation is a masterpiece. I loved all the animations. Characters, backgrounds and the screenplay is simply amazing. You got yourself a subscriber sir!
RiqCrow is taken by a fey mood!
RiqCrow claimed a computer!
RiqCrow started a mysterious construction!
RiqCrow has created: A Tale from Dwarf Fortress: Zasrimad!
Spot on! Jack's "duuuuude"-face in the episode "The Scotsman Saves Jack: Part I" was so priceless i had to add it in this :D
“Vampire attacks are just part and parcel of living in a big city” -King Datan Kadólnélas, probably
*scoffs* "vampires are not real" --King Datan Kadólnélas, most likely
Vampires tend to end up as militia captains/commanders because they normally have decent fighting skills.
Anyway, great animation! Really enjoyed that.
The lough of that dragon gave me the creeps.
+Grivies Otter do u know where that laugh comes from?
+Steel Jaguar Gaming Temple if i remember it right, it was used it Total War's Hyrule mod (Legend of Zelda mod) trailer. It was deliciously creepy, dunno if it made or took from original game. But anyway i believe voice is from Legend of Zelda's villain.
I have no words. This is a MASTERPIECE. Why tf is it at 60k views still?
This is what got me into Dwarf Fortress in the first place.
Well that's certainly a way to make a cardinal look terrifying!
+Elliott Pascoe yeah! you might be interested to see how my brother drew Midil the One-Eyed Beast tulikoura.deviantart.com/art/Speedpainting-Forgotten-Beast-Midil-353886274 (as this animation is based on his game-play from Dwarf Fortress, i just pass on these tales), my bro also drew some other forgotten beasts, like "A gigantic one-eyed shrimp Omethu", or even scarier one "A gigantic hairy gecko Ufsmat" in his DA site.
Cheers for the precious comment. I'm going to continue the story of Zasrimad, think this as part I. The previous DF animation had one dwarf who is the protagonist in this new fortress, points if you figure it out :)
I love your animation style man, it reminds me a lot of Samurai Jack, Looney Toons, and The Hobbit (1977 animated film). Keep up the GREAT work.
I think the dwarf king wanted the vampires blood so he could drink it and become an immortal vampire himself.
i like how you used kaathe "enough of this" in this .
finally someone recognized his voice ^^ i liked drop interesting voices and characters, as those lines fit so well!
Truly, you are the one chosen by Armok. I love it. Really looking forward to more of this.
One note though: I was disappointed to hear no war horns when they actually blew them in the vid. That would be cool.
I actually tried to sync them with backround music trumpets in that part, maybe it doesnt work well then.
just wanted to say that this art style is fantastic. Great work!
(I agree that the forgotten beast laugh is wicked lol)
cheers, I personally regret of being partially lazy and especially rushing the audio editing part (doing it in parts rather than during one session) and now hearing those audio clipping hard between segments ;__;) but glad you liked pixel art (even that was because i adjusted wrong pixel dimensions for EasyToons and decided to go with it)
@@RiqCrow it turned out well imho. The art style is quite striking; I saw it on YT's main page and was drawn to click on it lol.
I'm like that too with my covers though, I dislike a lot of things that others never even notice in the first place lol.
Just wanted to say great job, all the same. Have a good one!
This animation is a treasure for the dwarf community. Brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this.
it would be great to see this art again
This is still one of the coolest animations I've ever seen. It's epic.
thank you for your kind words, personally I see bad quality and low-talent editing with sounds. But it was more for the story to be told..
the laugh was so perfect
1:30 dat elven Samurai Jack
Was thinking the exact same thing.
Epic is the only work to describe this.
Reminds me of the old animated Lord of the Rings movies. MOAR!
this is amazing. nothing captures the epicnes of dwarf fortress like this!
the simplicity yet effectiveness of this animation style breathes so much life into DF
its really REALLY good. i gotta try something like it.
The storybook quality of these videos is brilliant.
I'm finding these videos 9 years later and I absolutely love them
thank you, if I'm ever again taken by a fey mood, will finish the 3rd DF-animation I started long time ago.
@@RiqCrow I hope that you do! Maybe the Steam release will motivate you
1:32 Is this here the same animator who made Samurai Jack?
The entire style and design of this animation is completely equal.
Completely blown away by this. So awesome !
You did it! It is as great as you said it would be.
Love the vampire bit, its so true. But it was really awesome throughout.
These Dwarf Fortress animations are epic! Please continue if you can.
This is a masterpiece of Dwarf Fortress animated art. Just completely magnificent. Great visual storytelling. The Burzum cover fits all of these scenes just perfectly. Amazingly well done.
This was far more epic than I had expected when I first clicked. I hope you do more in this style. Awesome game.
I've watched this soo many times and I still love it!
+RengarTheDwarf thank you for watching it, i really appreciate it, and happy someone else anjoys DF as much as i do!
Beautiful little Dwarfen Tale.
Nicely done.
I love this series quite a bit and I can't wait to see what stories you are going to tell next!
“Han Som Reiste” is the score if I’m not badly mistaken.
Excellent choice of musical theme for this video. Subscribed!
Yeah music is mentioned in description: Almófar - Han Som Reiste (Burzum cover) , I though it fits perfectly with the melancholy of the dwarves.
This is the best DF animation I have ever seen! Truly masterwork.
Perhaps the most epic 3 picture animation of a blacksmith folding iron to date
I really love the style of this movie.
"Enough of this."
The text slates don't stay around long enough to read properly, a few more seconds for each one in the future maybe? Other than that I love the stories and the animation style!
Yes, It's the a craft of the highest quality. It's a black and white picture animation. The film menaces with the spikes of awesome!
Man, do I love this video. The art style. The visual storytelling style (with the old dwarf chronicling and flashing events) - the pacing. The music. EVERYTHING.
Just a FANTASTIC job, RiqCrow. I'd love to see more of these!!!
I love that you used the Witch King as the voice of the dwarf king
That forgotten beast and its sound is my favourite thing about this
This is what we call a ☼«☼masterful☼»☼ work of art. Its decorations are masterful.
Black and white are colours too...Thanks for the comment mate!
Really captures how I imagine my games to be, especially captures that forlorn feeling of sagas long past that I get from walking through old forts in adventure games.
Wow, does this KICK ASS. So well done!
Very cool! would love to see more animations!
amazing. great sound, hope there are more of these !
Thank you for kind words!
This was even better than the previous DF animation. Very well done. It did end kind of abruptly though. It didn't end with the utter destruction of the fortress, so the story can't be over yet.
That was naught short of amazing for me. We thank you for your work.
Thank you for watching!
Amazing! Will you be doing a third? This would be an excellent series to continue!
This was AMAZING
please, MORE
MOOOOORE
Love this animation style and the story!
Wish there was more stuff like this. Some parts reminded me of Disney for some reason. Like old kid movies and shows. Love the retro video game vibe though... even though that’s basically what Dwarf Fortress is
This is actually amazing, nice job.
The Gladiator audio was perfect
Really love these. Just got into dwarf fortress not too long ago
You're a genius. Please make more dwarf fortress videos
This.. this deserves so much more attention. This is art.
I love your 2 movies. The best animations about DF i've ever seen. I really like your style. I love how playing DF creates so fantastic and detailed histories. Greetings from Argentina :)
Every couple of months I come back and watch these videos, They're inspiring! Wish I could animate my df stories like this.
This is amazing. I love the artwork! It really creates that dark/claustrophobic feel of certain really good high fantasy.
I am fascinated by your 2 videos of DF, you got good taste, please keep doing more!
Greetings from Argentina
Please make more of these
Add audio narration and this would make this the best Dwarf Fortress content, as it stands great animation.
That would make a really good novel with some more work and filler parts put into it. I love to read and hear about people's time playing dwarf fortress. I encourage you to keep making these as their just isn't enough on the internet.
P.S really nice animation
It menaces with spikes of quality Animation!
Thank you! i did this couple of hours / day after work, sometimes there was longer pause, but generally 3 months...Kinda sluggish! I wish i could just print it out straight from my head, animation would be 3 hours long then...
Spectacularly done. Looking forward to more tales and vids like this
Do more, please.
I'm really enjoying those tales.
Amazing, i like your artstyle very much.
Amazing style and animation. Well done!
Dude, you are an amazing animator!
Dude the animations look amazing
excellent animation :). and very nice story telling
Great work! The simple art style combined with the limited music and sound effects made this a real joy to watch.
Really effin cool, thanks for this!
Please make a sequel! These are incredible. I must know what happens next!
Amazing work, I envy your style and attention to detail. Sounds and animation were perfect.
Beautifully made.
Yeah, this is pretty incredible.
Incredible. Wow👏
I really need more of these dwarf fortress animations
that was amazing, seriously dude... amazing
I really enjoyed this animation, wonder how I didn't spot it before! Once again shows that it can pay off to browse random Dwarf Fortress related videos!
Glad that you found it then, there are not too many animations made of from this awesome game.
Great story and video. I might send the story of one of my forts sometime.
Really fantastic
Amazing! Loved the first one and loved this as well! Good choice of music as well!! Will be waiting for the next one! =)
Love the artwork
