  • If like us, you are attracted to the Niagara Region, but Niagara on the Lake is too expensive and Niagara Falls is a bit rough around the edges, St. Catharines may be just the right place for you to move to. St. Catharines is the biggest city in the Niagara Region and it has a lot of restaurants and shopping geared to locals rather than tourists. In this video we show you the PROs and CONs of moving to St. Catharines, Ontario, and show you a couple of homes for sale.

    I have studied at Brock 1 year and lived in the downtown back in 2009, coming from France. I loved this city so much. People where very nice and friendly. Even though this is not a bike friendly city by european standards, I commuted by bike. I had good memories. I miss this place so much!

    I was born and raised in Niagara and I spent a large portion of my life in St. Catharines (aka - "St. Kitts / St. Kitties"). It's a great city because you're close to everything and it has everything. Compared to the Toronto suburbs, in-town traffic is a breeze. There's something for everyone there, nightlife, restaurants, the out-doorsy type... Damn I really miss living there and I'd move back in a heart beat if I could! (Currently living in Toronto suburbs) 😭

    I loved the video thank you, I am a senior and have lived here my whole life and I agree the buses need to work together, they go to Fort Erie , Niagara Falls , welland and Port colborne, but not right into Niagara on the Lake, only go as far as Niagara College campus, this is wrong, people would travel and enjoy the Shows at the Shaw and have a drink and shop, why don’t buses run into N.O.T.L., but is is a great place to raise a family and still afford, well for now❤️🇨🇦❤️

    You somehow missed Port Dalhousie, which is easily the best part of town with a really nice beach, as well as the Welland canal. Also I've found that due to the limited traffic in the north end, and trails, biking feels quite safe even without bike lanes. Moved here 15 years ago and really love it for raising my kids.

    Perhaps once upon a time. St Catharines Politicians keep bleating on about affordable housing and the well-being of its citizens. yet the same politicians just voted in favour of raising property taxes by a whopping 10%. They are either blind to the plight of citizens or just don't care!

    • @ShouldWeLiveHere
      @ShouldWeLiveHere  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      10% is a steep increase! I just read that 40% of property taxes go to the Niagara Regional Police.

    Rent has skyrocketed and greedy property developers are ruining life here for everyday people. $500,000+ for starter homes in a city with a barren downtown and nothing to do. We do not need more opportunistic people looking for a quick buck in real estate, we need more people starting businesses and putting money back into the economy. The comparisons to toronto need to end, it is like comparing New York City to Albany.

    • @ShouldWeLiveHere
      @ShouldWeLiveHere  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people take classes at both Niagara College and Brock at the same time. You can get a bus to Niagara College from St Catharines but it would take a long time. Probably better to live in Welland near the campus and just visit St Catharines on the weekends.

    Not everyone says thanks to the bus driver. Edit: What constitutes a long line for these vegan donuts? From what I am seeing in the video, that is not a long line for a small shop. P.S. St. Catharines is nothing special, but when good stuff happens here, I start to wonder why. Why is Ice Cube coming to St. Catharines to perform? Why did they shoot a small part of the series Nikita that I used to love watching? I mean, the people in St. Catharines, to be honest, are not that friendly, but that's true in all parts of the country. The General Hospital is a place you definitely want to avoid, and usually, nothing good ever happens in St. Catharines, except what I mentioned to avoid. Not to mention that you need a vehicle to get around St. Catharines; nothing is within walking distance like in Toronto. The housing prices in St. Catharines are way too high for a city that is not like New York, Paris, Madrid, or any other places rich in history and culture.

    Nice place to live, but lousy place to work. Employment is precarious at best. Don't know how the place survives really. If you love theatre, its a great place for theatre Arts. GCP, TCT, Firehall theatre. All great places for entertainment. Regional government is a burden, as you pay extra taxes. Lack of infrastructure between communities gave me incentive to move away.
