    I prefer applying lemon grass tea infused cucumber slices to the face shield, almond and coconut paste to the shell and then do a nice Jamaican Blue coffee cleanse to the internal padding. That takes years off of your helmet and makes it feel like something newer and fresher is sitting on your face.

    Rule for microfiber towel?
    Always remove tag, it can scratch.
    Another rule?
    Never let it touch the ground or pick up dust, can also scratch.

    Someone below said it best: "As experienced riders we often lose sight of sharing that experience with riders who are relatively new". Even though this is dead simple, we all have a first time and want to get it right. Your video(s) really help so pay no mind to the naysayers! A few times you mentioned changing the pin-lock. My helmet is only a year old (HJC IS Max 2) and there doesn't seem to be any reason to worry about the pin-lock yet. How can I tell if it needs to be replaced?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Once the silicone seal around the Pinlock starts to degrade or the Pinlock insert has a harder time resisting fogging, then it's time to replace it. -DrewZilla

      I travelled across washington, Idaho and Montana last spring and I was seriously coated in bug guts. Stopped at a rather nice hotel and ended up climbing in the shower in full gear to rinse most of it off. I’ll never forget the smell (I cleaned up the bathroom after, I didn’t want to be ‘that guy’), but it was nice not smelling like a bait shop starting the next morning. X-/

    Good info but a lot of work. I simply keep the outside clean weekly and every few months I polish it. As far as the visor, glasses cleaner works well (has not damaged it yet) or just soapy water with dish liquid. The interior padding, I just take it out and throw it in the washing machine along with my jacket and wash in cold water, delicate cycle then air dry. Both the jacket and helmet liner come out great every time. Right or wrong, its easy and quick.

    • @planetphatness
      @planetphatness 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I use, windex and a wash rag. Give it a good wipe down after a ride. Probably not the best long-term but if I had a $500 helmet I probably would be more careful with it. The ones I use are between $150 and $200.

    Ironic that this popped up in my email tonight. I commute in the PNW and between the rain and road-grease, my white helmet was more gray/black so I figured I’d wipe it down before I started my 35 mile ride home (before I saw this).
    I found out my shell was chipped and I had a crack I thought was just grime... it went for its last ride tonight. I already bought a new helmet (part of the reason Revzilla sent me the email), but I guess that was good timing (and a good reason to clean your lid more often than I have been).

    • @jimmorrison306
      @jimmorrison306 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No expert here, but if stored indoors in a dry environment it shouldn’t matter up or down. Leaving the liner wet to mold or subjecting the helmet to sunlight excessively would be hard on the materials. I like to set my helmet in front of a fan that’s blowing to help dry it on those sweaty days. I would never apply heat to it.

    • @RevZilla

      The straps can also be wiped down with a gentle cleaner like soap and water, then air dried. Since they are usually a tougher material they don't absorb as much sweat and dirt as the soft inner linings.
      I hope that helps!

    Clean your face shield before your helmet or use a fresh microfibre rag and clean water so as to avoid scratching your visor with dirt that might be in the water you just used to clean your helmet with.

    You said not to use any external/extra heat source to dry. Whenever i have washe gloves or even normal clothes, if you don't do this they stink. In fact they have the same smell that i'm trying to get rid of but stronger.

    Just wondering what nexx model you have there? I like that look.

    • @RevZilla

      That is an older ADV model, though the exact name slips my mind now. That said, it is no longer available but you can see Nexx's current ADV options here, which have a similar vibe:

      I hope that helps!

    Why didn't you use shampoo or soap on the external visor/external shell in order to clean it perfectly?

    So taking a damp cloth and wiping the outside down would be a good way to keep up daily maintenance or is there a special spray I could use for that?

    I have a VCAN helmet in a sort of dull finish that has gone sticky. So every time I put it in the bag or on something like soft cloth, it gets some of the fibres stuck to it. I have tried all sorts on none solvents to clean it but nothing works. I'm scared of damaging it so can anyone suggest something that will clean it without damaging it?

    Hi I have the hcj is Maxx 2 and I find the shade mechanism and the main helmet pivoting point is getting harder do move from dust build up. Any thoughts on how to clean that?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd start with a can of compressed air. Otherwise, you may try a tiny dab of silicone lubricant to get the mechanism moving smoothly again. -TeamZilla Chris
