The most incredible thing about this is Rik's vocals. Absolutely flawless for a live recording, something that almost never happens. This is one of the great live sets in rock history.
I’m gonna play the devil’s advocate on this one I believe his guitar work with the chords he’s applying while singing and working that volume knob is just amazing
@micaelatomtlund7567 I've heard that about alotbof performances but never this one. This is pure. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm gonna put my money on the reverb making the notes last out longer than he is on the mic.
Triumph slays. Rik Emmet is such an underated guitar player and singer. His effortless high range. He can hit those highs in his sleep. Seriously, what an amazing talent that guy is! And the drummer has a hell of a voice as well. These guys just kick ass and were never given the recognition they deserved.
Triumph was on the cover of all the big rock magazines at the time, and all over MTV in it's heyday. They sold millions of albums and sold out all the big arenas. They definitely got some serious recognition.
It is hard to believe all the whole thing came from 3 guys on stage!!! Rik and Gil in their element. This trio trumped very body else on stage that day.
Agreed. Rik and Gil are masters and both mastered the art of playing their instrument and singing at the same time...very few can do that. Dave Meneketti of Y&T and the late Gary Moore comes to mind. Mike Levine perhaps is the silent one that held those two talents together..just a thought.
I wish i could go to a Triumph concert. I grew up to my grandparents listening to them and it just amaze me the talent is amazing. Erik Emmet was my fave. He’s got the most beautiful pristine tone without even trying.
I’ve learnt the entire song and i have to say they are the hardest chords in the song, the rest don’t have a stretch like that but can be perceived as difficult. But that’s just me
"What's a nice boy doing in a place like this"...sums up Triumphs appearance on Metal day....they not only stole the show, they were the show. Never Surrender.
I met Rik Emmett in 1988 when they were on our record label ( MCA RECORDS). Rik was such a nice gentleman and I told him that I saw Triumph and Mountain on the same bill in 1985 in East Rutherford, NJ. He sat in my office for about an hour and he signed a Triumph poster for me and personalized it but he wrote it using a cheap bic pen but everyone I show it to said that was really nice of him. He's an excellent and a very underrated guitarist and a great singer too. Thank You Rik Emmett for everything 😎🎸
This is still one of my favorite songs. I remember hearing it when it first came out my first year of high school, and I listened to it constantly when I was struggling. I've learned how to play parts of it on guitar, and it is hard enough to play. I can't even imagine singing over it. Thank you Triumph, for all you gave in the 80s. Songs like this, Hold On, Fight the Good Fight, Magic Power, Just a Game, Take a Stand were ones you could turn to always in the dark times of lif

Wish i could have seen this concert in person an met the band.i wish they would start putting out new material an go on the road again, and come to lexington or louisville ky.

I was driving into the parking lot on that Sunday, got to hear some of these incredible bands from there. Slept on the hood my car and went on Monday. Saw some amazing bands as well. Wish I would have been there one day earlier - always loved this song. On this same day...Van Halen, Scorpions, Triumph (of course), Judas Priest, Ozzy Osborn, Joe Walsh, Motley Crue. Triumph is amazing! Such great music! And, if I may say, Rik is SO talented-- plays so many genres on his guitars, and songwriting too, on top of the magnificent vocals he does.. Rik's voice and guitar are so detailed and spot on. Pure talent from 3 guys from the north!
Dayuum these guys are freaking tight 💪💯🇨🇦
The Great White North ! Take off, you hover!
The Gr8 White North ! Take off you hoser !
Never heard of them just came across this vid ..What a voice 😊
I was at this concert!
Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA ✌️
Look up April Wine, another Canadian band of the 80s.
Unreal aren't they? They got back together for the first time in 35 years and made a movie last year. They still have it going on...
This is the band that brought us "lay it on the line" which I guess I assumed was Styx idk?! So great!!!!
Watch Fight the good fight. Man, what a voice! And Live!
Crisp! Drums, bass, guitar and of course the vocals. One of the best live renditions ever recorded!
Triumph ruled that Festival!
I was at this concert in 1983, all three days, it was one month before I got out of the Marine Corps, my friends told me I had a great time ! 🤘🤪🍄🍻
Glad to be alive in the era of Triumph.
Someone gets Rik cloned cause we can't live in a world without this dude. What a master!
An absolutely amazing band, even more so that they are a trio. What is it with Canadians and amazing trios. Where do they get all of that sound.
What? No love for Bachman-Turner Overdrive even though they are not a trio?
Especially so for Triumph: vocal-guitar, bass-keys, drums-vocals- they throw it all out there.
Getting a Lot of mileage out of the 12 string sounds...
No auto-tune just Talent probably on the top five live recordings of all time
They dont make Rock bands like this anymore. Triumph was absolutely Amazing
THIS is a live performance. No effects, no dance routine or scripted excess. Just pure talent and letting the music entertain you!
I was there!!! It was amazing!! Great times, great times!!
I rewatch this every few months. The dude's performance here is off the charts, even for him

Thank you, Triumph, for your light. Beautiful playing from everyone in the band. You are rock titans, truly,
its taken me a whole week just to grasp those first three chords of the song lmao... this band is gold

I do not get the 'cheap bic pen' part. He should have whipped out a gold one?
Weird that he sat in your office for an hour and you're complaining about a Bic pen?
...spot on performance !!!! ....and that voice ....amazing band !!!! Triumph deserve more credit for their work !!!!
First Time I saw Triumph was back in '78 (Midland, TX) I was completely blown away by. Still Am 42 years later....

Nice to be able to watch this in HD video and w/ great audio. Great tune, great players, nice voice.
One of the first Lp's I owned back in the 80's and I fell in love with this band automatically. This song is just amazing, classic stuff.
My God, what an awesome performance! This is when they were at the top of their game... very talented musicians!

Triumph 1986 in Texas, Best concert I've ever attended live!!!
So awesome still...saw them once around 1981.....So few can sing Live So Great!!!
What a musician and singer.
Not an easy guitar part to play, let alone live, plus a wild time signature, and then add this vocal performance on top. It challenges reality.
