The most incredible thing about this is Rik's vocals. Absolutely flawless for a live recording, something that almost never happens. This is one of the great live sets in rock history.

I’m gonna play the devil’s advocate on this one I believe his guitar work with the chords he’s applying while singing and working that volume knob is just amazing

@micaelatomtlund7567 I've heard that about alotbof performances but never this one. This is pure. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm gonna put my money on the reverb making the notes last out longer than he is on the mic.

Triumph slays. Rik Emmet is such an underated guitar player and singer. His effortless high range. He can hit those highs in his sleep. Seriously, what an amazing talent that guy is! And the drummer has a hell of a voice as well. These guys just kick ass and were never given the recognition they deserved.

Triumph was on the cover of all the big rock magazines at the time, and all over MTV in it's heyday. They sold millions of albums and sold out all the big arenas. They definitely got some serious recognition.

It is hard to believe all the whole thing came from 3 guys on stage!!! Rik and Gil in their element. This trio trumped very body else on stage that day.

    • @rajaseelan6934
      @rajaseelan6934 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Agreed. Rik and Gil are masters and both mastered the art of playing their instrument and singing at the same time...very few can do that. Dave Meneketti of Y&T and the late Gary Moore comes to mind. Mike Levine perhaps is the silent one that held those two talents together..just a thought.

I met Rik Emmett in 1988 when they were on our record label ( MCA RECORDS). Rik was such a nice gentleman and I told him that I saw Triumph and Mountain on the same bill in 1985 in East Rutherford, NJ. He sat in my office for about an hour and he signed a Triumph poster for me and personalized it but he wrote it using a cheap bic pen but everyone I show it to said that was really nice of him. He's an excellent and a very underrated guitarist and a great singer too. Thank You Rik Emmett for everything 😎🎸

This is still one of my favorite songs. I remember hearing it when it first came out my first year of high school, and I listened to it constantly when I was struggling. I've learned how to play parts of it on guitar, and it is hard enough to play. I can't even imagine singing over it. Thank you Triumph, for all you gave in the 80s. Songs like this, Hold On, Fight the Good Fight, Magic Power, Just a Game, Take a Stand were ones you could turn to always in the dark times of lif

    Lyrics
Out in the streets inspiration comes hard
The joker in the deck keeps handin' me his card
Smilin' friendly he takes me in
Then breaks my back in a game I can't win
Jivin', hustiln', what's it all about?
Everybody always wants the east way out
Thirty golden pieces for the Judas kiss
What's a nice boy doin' in a place like this?
Never Surrender - keep your dreams alive
Never Surrender - hold your head up high
Modern apathetics; you got plenty of nothing to say
Some are born to follow: some will make their own way
Today you found a hero tomorrow you'll forget
You're lookin' for convenient truth you haven't found it yet
You don't make commitments no time for regrets
Easy come and easy go and easy to forget
    You don't ever take responsibility
Don't you know that part of you is part of me
Never Surrender - keep your dreams alive
Never Surrender - hold your head up high
Never Surrender, it's easier said than done
But you go to finish what's already begun
Never, that's forever, seems like such a long time
But I only got one life to live - It's gonna be mine
Never Surrender - we cannot be denied
Never Surrender - spread your wings and fly

Wish I would have been there one day earlier - always loved this song. On this same day...Van Halen, Scorpions, Triumph (of course), Judas Priest, Ozzy Osborn, Joe Walsh, Motley Crue. The day I went, opened with Little Steve and the Disciples of Soul, Berlin, Quarterflash, U2, Missing Persons, Pretenders, John Cougar, Stevie Nicks and David Bowie. I wish i could go to a Triumph concert. I grew up to my grandparents listening to them and it just amaze me the talent is amazing. Erik Emmet was my fave. He’s got the most beautiful pristine tone without even trying.

jeez bixby, ease it up..listen to the complexity of drum patterns throughout this song! his soaring vocals...the bass playing....three guys, tempo changes, your comment is one of I can only guess ignorance of the extremely talented and diversity of music these guys have written.....these guys are the best!!!!!

These guys are total and complete Jedis! It's almost like they are trying to steal each other's thunder. I play bass, good luck stealing any thunder from Rick Emmett! 💥

    TRIUMPH - Never Surrender Lyrics
    --------------------------------------------------
Out in the streets inspiration comes hard
    [Jam interlude]
Never Surrender, it's easier said than done
But you go to finish what's already begun
Never, that's forever, seems like such a long time
But I only got one life to live - It's gonna be mine
Never Surrender - keep your dreams alive
Never Surrender - hold your head up high
Never Surrender - we cannot be denied
Never Surrender - spread your wings and fly
