Melodically speaking in songs yes they are! Beautiful songs! Sparks memories of that time frame! Judas Priest was a toss up kind of between the two but i love both bands! Rob Halfords vocals to this day are the same! but Rik Emmett lost his high range vocals i am sad to say because they were so high in range and melodic! I heard him hit 3 octaves in one note before and this is a Concert that displays Rik's ability to do so! but he can't come close to that these days! Triumph's drummer was a great singer back then as well!
Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, and David Lee Roth all hit the thumbs down on this absolutely KILLER LIVE PERFORMANCE. Thank the Rock Gods (and the brilliant sound and video crew that day) its on DVD for all to witness. Rik was a man possessed this day.
According to Wikipedia, the very first song they did at the US Festival was called 'Too Much Thinking'. But also according to Wikipedia. The song is not included on the CD or DVD. Why is that? Of course Motley Crue(Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars) and Van Halen(Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth) would give Triumph a 'thumbs down'. Because they think Triumph didn't play hard enough.
+Christopher Range I think the point was that the rest of those groups sucked (ie. thumbs down) and Triumph's performance saved the day and the price of admission for fighting that huge crowd , and thanks to the Woz for putting on a history making three day concert, or was it four ??!!
I thought the same thing about the sound Quality back then! Great job on Video and sound! i heard bands today with recent Concert Videos that couldn't compare to the sound Quality of this US Festival put to tape or DVD! Makes me wonder if that sound Man or team involved in their sound are still alive? And what are they doing these days?
Mark Rockledge Clair Brothers Audio provided the sound system. It was massive. But each band brought their own guy. Some of the band's sound guys were so intimidated by the sound system that it took half the set to calm them down enough to mix. Triumph's guy was great though.
The soundboard and the recordings are more than likely separate. Live PA mixes don't always record well. It is almost always better to record for video or whatever separate and then you can go back in a studio and set separate levels and whatnot.
This is one one of the great performances ever in live rock music. The whole band is great, I don't want to take anything away from Mike and Gill, especially because Gil is a great singer also, but I personally think Rik is on my short list of great vocalists and as a guitar player I appreciate his great playing also. Long live the music of us gen xer's!
this is a great song & excellent video, the sound quality is perfect too, we need to really up these numbers here. it deserves it, long live triumph. very talented group they were. riks still out there having a good time, thats pretty cool. gotta love him.
Triumph was the story of the US Festival! Greatest short set with (Queen Live Aid 1985 imo) Ever. Super Tight! 500k people, daytime and Gil using someone else's drums. and all songs better than studio! Lay it on the line was amazing.
I was working and this song crept into my head. Didn't have many of the words and I kept trying to figure it out who played it. Then by a stroke of luck it came on the radio a few days later and I got a few more words to search. When I found out it was Triumph I thought right on! Had a couple Triumph 8 tracks back in the day. The drummer was a wrecking ball operator in Toronto way back when.
Rik Emmett is Freaking Amazing I can remember back in the early 80's sitting in Guitar lessons Asking the guitar teacher to help learn how to play just Like RIK Emmett
Epic I agree! Thought 83 heavy metal day - and especially Triumph were amazing! More than a few bands (Van Halen) were drunk and sloppy and Motley Crue were out of their league. Triumph's set was super tight and Rik Emmett was out of this world great!
Both US Festivals rocked. Once in a life time experiences. The US in 1983 was simply kick ass. As the day progressed each bands energy intensified with the Scorpions stealing the show from the headliner- Van Halen. Great concert!!
How right you are! Those songs of Triumph made people Dream! Real Feelings and Emotions were brought out in people and still does whenever i watch this!
Priest was good but no Triumph. Even Triumph were like WTF, it's 100 degrees and these guys are wearing leather. Priest even saud "holy shot Triumph were good, we had to come with out A game" Compared to Van Halen and Motley Crue, Judas Priest were very good. But Triumph rules the day :)
Does anyone know why they wouldn't perform this anymore? They didn't perform it in their reunion(s) and Rik Emmett didn't perform it solo. I see there's a co-writer on the song and I'm guessing there must be some legal reason. This was the song I heard on the radio that introduced me to Triumph.
Does anyone have a high quality video copy of the studio version of this song that used to be in heavy rotation on MTV back in 1983? I've been looking for a good quality copy of it since TH-cam started, and it's very elusive and hard to find for some reason, and would love to see a high quality version! This is the version: th-cam.com/video/XfwJssBIHpc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ihw3SGuKwr1eBznF
What can you say about brilliant concert performances of this magnitude back in the day?? Long before rap, hip hop & all the posure fakeness that would become the staple of American music today... These days kids would rather see a dj play music on a laptop then see something like this... It's just f*ckin SAD...
You noticed that also. Women sometimes stray away from their own Company! I had the same thing happen to me at an outdoor Concert! She wanted to see how many guys she could hug and kiss that day so i left her Ass stranded! I was her ride! She calls me in the middle of the night from a pay phone asking where am i? i told her gone to sleep! Ask one of those guys for a ride Bitch! Next time stay with the guy you came with!
Mark Rockledge I agree, now i didn't take this girl, but I was kissing her at a Motley Crue concert, then i turned around a minute later and she was kissing my cousin, good times
***** for your education:forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/popular-rock-musicians-that-wear-a-wig.173464/page-2 He's lost most of it on the first album picture (the one not concealed by a hat) and then in years to follow 'grows' a very full head of hair. curtiscollectsvinylrecords.blogspot.ca/2011/06/triumps-first-album.html Also Gil runs a fantastic music studio in west Toronto so people kinda just know. No big deal, that's just life. Your heart will go on, Joe.
Because it's hard to dance to Rock Music! So! that was a dance they can relate to! Hip Hop R. and B. Soul and other forms of Black music is easier to dance to! They felt moved by the music! It's not Soul Train! or a dance off Contest! They didn't want to just sit still! On one of Triumph's songs during this show a Black girl is on top of someone's shoulders doing the same thing! i know where you were going with this but not all White people dance like that! Nor Blacks!
one of the greatest bands most people have never heard of!
+blackhawkrider161 My thoughts exactly!
Too bad concerts like this no longer exist!! These were the best of times??🤘🏻🤘🏻
Let me tell you... I've watched alot of bands from US Festival 83 and Triumph is one of the best...
Melodically speaking in songs yes they are! Beautiful songs! Sparks memories of that time frame! Judas Priest was a toss up kind of between the two but i love both bands! SCORPIONS
***** no this is triumph!put down the crack pipe and you would know were your at!!
***** no triumph!!
Criminally underrated.
I wish it was 1983 again. Great music, people were not so self absorbed...
one of my all time great bands... TRIUMPH
By far the best performance at the US festival
Can we just go back. Please😢
I agree, the funny thing in the Crue's autobio, Tommy Lee said he was crying after because they sounded so shitty.
how do you know that??
lisa e because it's in their book, "The Dirt"

I don't know who ran the sound board for these guys back in the day but that guy did one hell of a job.
Whoever Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak hired for the festival.
I thought the same thing about the sound Quality back then! They sent a stereo mix to the recording truck for reference. It is obvious they used it for a lot of the video.
This is one one of the great performances ever in live rock music. Met the drummer 10 years ago and he signed the dvd damn good music right here
1983 16 yrs and having a blast following Triump and Rush
Me too
Another incredible live performance by an amazing trio.
It's so crazy to these videos 40 years later know I was there. Triumph was the only real rock band there among all the metal.
Pisses me off that Triumph often gets NO recognition when Great Bands are discussed!! They Still & Always Will RULE with ME!!!!
There's only one Triumph... please get a reunion tour going, so so many fans loved your music
It was the band at their best of the best of the best :-)
Great band! Great Voice!!!
By far the best performance at the US festival
Rik's voice was insanely good here - even better than on the studio version.
The sound quality of this performance and recording in a horrible live setting given the era is phenomenal.
@russperry3000 For sure. But I would necessarily say live concert videos from the 80's (and even 70's) are bad - I've seen quite a few good ones.
this is a great song & excellent video, the sound quality is perfect too,
we need to really up these numbers here. it deserves it, long live triumph.
very talented group they were. riks still out there having a good time, thats pretty cool. gotta love him.
True Talent!

At the top of their game!
incredible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Epic I agree! Thought 83 heavy metal day - and especially Triumph were amazing! More than a few bands (Van Halen) were drunk and sloppy and Motley Crue were out of their league. Triumph's set was super tight and Rik Emmett was out of this world great!
The other Rush...just awesome
Better than Rush!!
Both US Festivals rocked. Once in a life time experiences.
The US in 1983 was simply kick ass. As the day progressed each bands energy intensified with the Scorpions stealing the show from the headliner- Van Halen. Great concert!!
This is the very definition of a band firing on all cylinders
so under rated !!!
I love the old 80s & 90s music it had meaning it wasn't about thug life
How right you are! Those songs of Triumph made people Dream! Real Feelings and Emotions were brought out in people and still does whenever i watch this!
Met the drummer gil moore when i was 7 good times :)

They blew EVERYONE on the bill off the stage..Made Van Halen look like the bar band they were at the time
The. Love. Of. A. Lifetime
Priest was good but no Triumph. Even Triumph were like WTF, it's 100 degrees and these guys are wearing leather. Priest even saud "holy shot Triumph were good, we had to come with out A game" Compared to Van Halen and Motley Crue, Judas Priest were very good. But Triumph rules the day :)
god, people looking like losing their heads, dancing and having so much fun..
Rick Emmett has performed live here and there. He's still amazing.
Does anyone have a high quality video copy of the studio version of this song that used to be in heavy rotation on MTV back in 1983? Pissed off boyfriend alert @ 2:15.
Funny. His lil' angel was getting the air pump.
I was thinking the same thing. It wasn't like she was dancing with another guy.
You noticed that also. Women sometimes stray away from their own Company!

too bad the the OP had his post deleted after all the years...
HAHAHA 2:15 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What the hell is wrong with 3 people!
Gil the Drummer is awesome - bald as a fuckin cue ball, wears a wig!
***** for your education:forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/popular-rock-musicians-that-wear-a-wig.173464/page-2
He's lost most of it on the first album picture (the one not concealed by a hat) and then in years to follow 'grows' a very full head of hair.

***** Gil is technically bald & an awesome musician, stop saying he's not.
no he is not actually i met him in 01 he is an awesome dude
+Mitchell Bullen - well that proves everything.
Yes sir
LMAO, why do all these people dance like Carlton?
Because it's hard to dance to Rock Music! So! that was a dance they can relate to! Hip Hop R. and B. Soul and other forms of Black music is easier to dance to! They felt moved by the music! It's not Soul Train! or a dance off Contest! They didn't want to just sit still! We're close. Triumph 1, Scorps 2, Priest 3. and yes VH was horrible. So wasted and didn't give a F.
Stretched out to widescreen 👎🏻
Scorpions were the Best Band and Triumph,Judas and Quiet Riot.VH sucked totally
they must be tone deaf...
u think triumph 's set sucked. wow u know nothing about music sad for u
I hitchhike to the show at 13 years old and I don’t remember any of this. Lol don’t do drugs brother.
