Travel agents are for people not knowledge enough to make accommodations on their own. Also, and obviously, the price of the ticket is innocuous, the point was the Cabo flight was three times more than the Cancun flight on the exact day, exact airport, exact airline, exact time, and exact seat. The point of the entire chapter was a comparable one / how Cabo is becoming the most expensive city in Mexico . Anyone that has traveled more than twice knows that travel prices swing wildly. You booking mgm grand on New Year's Eve for $800 a night, and then me telling you that I paid $75 in the middle of February for the same room would be annoying, and completely irrelevant, right? Right.
I actually booked at Riu Santa Fe, which was on the affordable side. My total was $2200, and that was with Expedia( 5 days 4 days(. I love how knowledgeable James is. And I base most of travel off of his advice.
Some tips were accurate (props on safety), but as a local, you were incorrect about a few things. 1) Most importantly, there are several swimmable beaches in Cabo. The Pacific side is dangerous, but along the Sea of Cortez (where all the action is) everyone is in the water - including small children. 2) Transportation from the airport can be very affordable. First, there is a shuttle bus that is dirt cheap (maybe not the most pleasant option). Or, you can hire a private driver at several different price points. Also, Uber picks up at the OXO just near the airport exit. Uber is very affordable in Cabo. 3) I would not advice anyone to use those shitty dollar ATM machines on the marina; they screw you over on fees. Look for machines that our branded by a major bank like Citibanamex, BBVA, HBC, or Scotiabank. Some are better than others, but many give out dollars or pesos. Don’t be afraid of pesos, either. You can always exchange/deposit them at your bank if you have extra when you return home. Of note, many places only take cash and NEVER HAVE CHANGE, so break down large bills so you have lots of small bills for tipping and such. 4) Marine layer is very seasonal. I hardly ever see a marine layer.
@shelliratzlaff2950 As an 8 year resident of Cabo myself, you are exactly right on all 3 of your points! "Leverage the buying power of the dollar"?! What? More and more places refuse to accept the dollar because it's value here is ever decreasing. 16.2 (or around that) right now.
Cabo is not on the Sea of Cortez. Cabo is on Pacific. The East Cape is not Cabo. About the dangerous water and beaches which are fully exposed to the Pacific swells, my mother's friend lost her two children to a rogue wave that dragged them out from where they were playing in sand some distance from the water line. The beaches of Cabo can be dangerous even if you are not in the water! I would advise people to use xoom to send money and then pick it up at any Oxxo. Much better exchange rate.
Same. All above true. I've been going to Cabo (I'm a pilot) for nearly 20 years. Weather is far from what I would call "marine layer". Yes, the Pacific is rougher but the Cortez side is nice.

We go to Cabo for a month every year. Hear are some more tips.. 1. DO NOT use the cashola ATM machines by the marina or anywhere else. we had a friend who had a lot if extra $ taken out of his bank account when he did! only use bank atms 2. There are so many Great beaches on the Sea of Cortez side! some with excellent snorlking, like Chilleno beach, BTW all the beaches in Baja Sur are open to the public 3. Do consider renting condo from VRBO or air BNB.. you can get great deals and be in a community. Some have their own bars and restaurants 4. Best sushi: Tiki Bar at the marina, Best tacos: Asi Asado on the corridor just a bit south east of Walmart , and local taco places too
Those rough waters and no swimming are a deal killer for me. I prefer the Eastern Caribbean, where many beaches are as clear and calm as a swimming pool. Plus, all the hills and small mountains create amazing views. My last trip was to St Thomas USVI and St John - both amazing. Stayed at Ritz, but they have a new Westin opening very soon too.
1. Depends where you are flying out from. We are in SF. It can be around 500 round trip, if we catch it on a down season. 2. For Uber from the airport, cross the street and they can pick you up there, but no one will tell you that. 3. Beaches around downtown is fine to swim in.
I stayed at Le Blanc in March and it was glorious! My cousin and I are pool people, so the no swimming in the ocean wasn't a big deal. LOVE the weather in Cabo! Way less humidity than other Mexican cities. I also loved spending the day in San Jose del Cabo. Super authentic with cobblestone streets. Very few peddlers and great restaurants and shops. We felt very safe there. I'm heading to Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya in January. Looking forward to experience a new place and a new brand for me.
Surprised no one mentioned this. I loved my 2 months in Cabo but... I got an ear infection twice. I only swam at Medano Beach. Beautiful water, very safe, restaurants right there. A local said that the sewage system is not so great up above in the local area. When it rains, water flows down to the sea and the bacteria count skyrockets. Don't know if it's true but that was the only time in my life I got an ear infection. I dove in the area not far from the Marino (forget the name of the beach) and had no problems there. Although I actually saw this guy take of his suit, poop in his underwear and then shake it out in the water. He was European, who knows...
Another option for transportation from Airport is using a private service to pick you up. It is typically $150 round trip but includes a stop a store for groceries/beers. It is nice to have a big van prefilled with beers picking you up. Regarding beaches there are areas that are swimmable along with lovers beach. Or just take a day trip to Todos Santos and stop at Cerritos Beach which is one of the best experiences we had when there.
Sorry you didn’t get to experience the beautiful swimmable beaches in Cabo but the no swimming allowed only applies to some resorts that are facing the pacific other than that there is tons of beaches to swim in

I could not disagree more with the comments on cost and swimmable beaches. My family has gone to Cabo every year for the last 11 years, most recently 10 days in August, and hotel and flights for 2 staying at the Sandos Finesterra which is beautiful, was $2800. Also, no, you can’t swim on the Pacific side, but the majority of Medano Beach is absolutely swimmable.
how was the weather in august? considering a trip there 7/31 - 8/8 but have been concerned by all the posts online about how unbearable the weather is. i love the heat, i live in socal, etc.
You are absolutely correct about it being more expensive to visit. To add on to that, make sure to purchase your plane tickets in advance a few months before you actually go. I ended up spending $650 in business class one way to Cabo, $400 in economy from Cabo and a copay of 15,000 AA miles to upgrade to business class on the way back home. Also, do your research on all inclusive resorts you wanna stay at. Sometimes you can get good deals depending on when you go.
Absolutely love Cabo and SJDC. We rented a car at airport, drove north to LA Paz....highways are amazing, coast road bumpy but fun ( we rented a 4 wheel drive Jeep). We stayed at Riu & Los Tesoro at marina. Tons of great local restaurants off the beaten path that are budget friendly. We can't wait to get back. The beach waves facing lands end are ferocious...but there are many spots along the corridor between the Cabos where swimming and snorkeling is possible. Highly recommended this destination 👌👍 I can't imagine going anywhere other than Mexico now that we have discovered it. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦.
13. Cabo is a desert; Vallarta and Cancun are tropical forests. The same cool ocean current that dominates Southern California's climate flows all the way down to the tip of Baja where it dissipates with warm water from the Sea of Cortez. The big difference between the regions is that SoCal's winter rainy season rarely reaches that far south. Cabo's sparse 8 inches of annual rain comes from brief, intense, late summer tropical storms.
I lived in San Diego for 20 years. Cross over to TJ and fly Volaris. I booked all my monthly trips last year from base $65 - $127 round trip. Extra for luggage.
any hotel from pueblo bonito rose all the way to the marina is very swimmable. lovers beach is also and there are small pockets of swimmable beach but for the most part he is right. the shore break and strong currents are to dangerous for most travelers. medano beach the most popular swimmable beach by far santa maria beach and chilano bay as well. if you want to snorkle and swim the grand fiesta americana is a must in the corridor area. Ive been going to cabo for 17 years now and the hotel game keeps growing. some are absolutely stunning.
I have just spent a lot of time researching Mexico vacation destinations and regarding flight costs it depends where you are flying from. For me coming from North California, Cabo was by far the cheapest and the quickest. 3hr direct flight at about a 3rd of a price compared to Cancun. Regarding beaches I have done my research and booked a hotel on Medano beach where swimming is allowed.
About the dangerous water and beaches which are fully exposed to the Pacific swells, my mother's friend lost her two children to a rogue wave that dragged them out from where they were playing in sand some distance from the water line. you hit a lot of points dead on but i was at Secrets with a non swimmable beach and i prefer Riviera Maya or Puerto Vallarta any day over Cabos, price wise, excursions and authenticity.
I'm from Argentina and trying to figure out how to migrate to Cabo San Lucas. Thanks for sharing your experience! And to the locals cualquier info que me puedan compartir les agradeceré infinitamente 😍
Great tips. Just got back. Mixed feelings. Cabo was recently rated most expensive town in Mexico. If you don't know your way around you will drop $$. We were shocked by the resort meal prices. Some restaurants are fair, maybe $100-$150 for two. Uber works well. Resort transport from airport very expensive when private. Also, the small pharmacies have some fake medicines!!
Thanks for the tips . Stayed at Del Arco resort & spa all inclusive in May We loved it , looking forward to going back & trying another resort some of the newer ones maybe ..
Dude you’re wrong about the beaches, I live here and we have some of the best beaches in the world, Cabo for example is a very safe place to swim, Right in the heart of Cabo for chrissakes, also the Cerritos beach just north of Cabo which is soft lapping waves, Santa Maria Cove which is fantastic snorkeling as good as anything in Hawaii, I could go on and on but those are just a few, and that great video bro thanks a lot
As someone who grew up in La Paz and has somewhat followed the news of southern Baja over the years, I've read of people being swept out to sea and drowning often enough at both of those beaches (along in Playa Migriño) that I wouldn't feel comfortable letting my young kids swim at any of them. As a strong swimmer with lots of open ocean experience, I wouldn't presonally worry for myself, but for those who aren't so, yes, those beaches are dangerous.
My flight to Cabo in late September out of Houston Hobby on Southwest was dirt cheap. Like under $400 roundtrip cheap. But that was during the off-peak season and on off-peak days.
Interesting comment about the beaches. I had no idea! We are planning a trip to Cabo and I had the illusion of hanging out at the beach all day! We will still go there but it's good to know that fact. Thanks!
Hey man. I’m staying at le blanc in Cabo. You should review it. It’s the best all inclusive resort I’ve ever been to. Even trumps some hotels I’ve been to in Dubai .
This gentleman's experience mostly true, We travel there 2-3 times a year, sometimes for several weeks at a time, for 12 years. We Love Cabo.. San Jose Del Cabo is laid back a bit bit awesome as well. We love the beaches swimming, snorkeling, diving, fishing. The hotels of which are many on Medano beach is all swimming beach its on the sea of cortez side. Its 2 miles of beautiful pristine beach. Just choose you hotel with a swimming beach or not, there are plenty. Time of year makes a huge difference in expenses and weather. May and Oct but not during the week of the fishing tournament, are concidered summer or off season, the weather is great and prices are better, especially if you like to barter/haggle for things. Airports and airlines have huge price swings.Enjo
on the Uber point - i'm not sure if something has changed recently.. yes, you can't get picked up from the airport via Uber (drop off is okay), but you mentioned not being able to get picked up from your hotel via Uber? i've stayed at several different hotels in the past year including the The Cape and the RC Reserve and had no issues getting picked up or dropped off via Uber. sidenote on the RC Reserve, not sure if you plan to come back to Cabo later and do a luxury property run, but i know you'd love it @ the RC Reserve. high marks for customer service (up there with Japan), and the campus, facilities, fit and finish they have is AMAZING. will definitely be back.
James its Lucas from SD. You will be thrilled to know that I booked 3 nights on air bnb at the Westin Laguna mar cheap on the first floor. Also dirt cheap to fly out of Tijuana. Round trip the three of us was like 260.00. but if your in Wisconsin it doesn't matter. I was gonna book Tampa for st. Petersburg . Do you have any info why is that flight always more than Miami or Lauderdale?
If you want Uber from the airport, exit and walk around the corner (maybe 100 - 150 yards) to the Oxxo convenience store. They will pick you up there, but if you have a lot of luggage, that could be difficult.
I am planning a bachelor party for my buddy and wanted to know what you would recommend for 4 things: Sports Bar, Day Club, Dinner, and Gentlemen club. This would help me greatly!!
The #12 point was what I wished I knew the most when I went to cabo in May.. I love the beach and getting in the water. but baby!! them sand dunes in the water dont play!! I hate it!! however i sat on the beach for the sunrises and breathtaking!
I was there two weeks ago and it was hands down one of the most expensive places I’ve ever vacationed. For example, I was in Rome, Italy the week before I went to Cabo and the food in Cabo was easily 4x the prices in Rome. Not to mention every single person that you even glance at asks for a tip… blatantly.
I think ‘Expensive’ is all relative to so many details not noted. I fly to cabo every year from San Jose so of course it’s cheaper bc I’m just 2.5 hours away. If i flew to Cancun it’d be $500 more bc it’s 5.5 hours away. And where you stay also predicts the level of $$ spent. Has cabo gotten pricier since I’ve been going in 2009? Sure? But what destination hasn’t? Other than that, your points all do make perfect sense. 👍🏼
We use our air miles every year for Cabo and fly through Alaska. Even without the miles we would pay $500 or less from Seattle to Cabo per person. That’s anytime between June to December. We just choose when the rates are better.
The only swimmable beach in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo is the beach at the Hacienda located in Cabo San Lucas (from the Hacienda to Villa del Palmar). The cheapest hotels/motels in Cabo San Lucas are the ones near "Mermaids".
Medano beach by the Marina is safe to swim. Plus there are alot of really fun and entertaining beach clubs on Medano beach. Additionally, you can take a water taxi to these beach clubs
How much was a typical Uber in Cabo? I’m torn between renting a car or using a person driver. My driver is charging $150 not including tips for round trip hotel transfer.
Playa mendano in Cabo is great for swimming and watersports. Miles to walk safely on the beach I just checked airlines flight from Indianapolis high season- $550 round trip. Cheapest I have witnessed in years. Marine layer is only through hot months May thru early October. Been going to Mexico for 50 years
hi there! what's the beach club pictured at 8:09? I'm looking for chill day pools to hang out at that don't charge an arm and a leg. and not looking for the party scene really. would love any input :)
One can catch a bus for 80 pesos right outside the airports doors to Cabo San Lucas. That was $4.00. It's takes about an hour but just sit back and enjoy the sights on the ride in. There are some nice hotels for less that $150 a night that include a free breakfast buffet that was excellent. For me and the GF easily a $15 buffet so there's a savings of $30 everyday. Restaurants along the harbor are very competitive if one simply walks and shops around a bit.
Also you can get in the water at the beaches in Cabo you just have to go to the right beaches. Beaches on the western side are more dangerous due to wave activity and drop off...others to the east arent like that
Don’t rent a car in cabo, it says it’s $8 a day but they get you with expensive insurance with 5k deposit as well. You should have never recommended rent a car.
Thank you for ur info, for now i stick with PDC Playacar adult resort beautiful beach beautiful hotel delicious restaurants and good price on September month you can’t go wrong 😀
Just got back from Cabo 2 days ago. Wife and I had a 3 bedroom Suite double balcony with triple sliding doors for the master and living room for 5 days/AirBnB which was connected to a resort $1500. It’s a beautiful place.
Thanks for the 12 things to know. Cabo was kind of on my list, but when you said beaches are closed, it's a big NO for me. Cabo is off my list. In my case, not spending tons of money to sit at a pool.
I heard and read a lot of the same and have been to many beaches. Not sure of the names but the beach right there on the east side of the Cabo Marina is very nice and you CAN get in the water. We were there in May and the water was a bit cold. We got in there and walked a long way down the beach (to the east) and were able to get in when we wanted. We alternated between the pool and the beach but spent most of our time all around the marina and down town Cabo. Wen to many restaurants, bars and shops . . . . . . . Totally Safe !! We stayed at the Breathless and would totally recommend. Loved the view and access to the marina. Took water taxi across the marina and another back to our resort after walking so far down the beach.
$2500? You had the wrong travel agent. 😂 I’m going next month for 5 days 4 nights all inclusive for $1450 Hotel and flight.

Regarding beaches I have done my research and booked a hotel on Medano beach where swimming is allowed.
you can definitely go in the water at the Medano beach
So helpful! Do you know where the bubble pool party takes place? Any recommendation for Party hotels/ Resorts?
You are so right about the beaches! We were unaware of this and the hotel had us sign a contract that we would not go in the water.
About the dangerous water and beaches which are fully exposed to the Pacific swells, my mother's friend lost her two children to a rogue wave that dragged them out from where they were playing in sand some distance from the water line. The beaches of Cabo can be dangerous even if you are not in the water!
you hit a lot of points dead on but i was at Secrets with a non swimmable beach and i prefer Riviera Maya or Puerto Vallarta any day over Cabos, price wise, excursions and authenticity.
Just spent 8 days at Santos Finisterra, walked uptown to The Cabo Wabo Cantina, No issues what so ever.
No swimmable beaches? What? Medano beach, Santa Maria, Chileno Beach etc… just a few
Thanks for the tips . Stayed at Del Arco resort & spa all inclusive in May
We loved it , looking forward to going back & trying another resort some of the newer ones maybe ..
Karen's
Is a water warm there?
Well when I went there you didn’t go in the water.
What resorts have the best swimmable beaches
Thank you for heads up about the beach and weekend crowds at Cabo.
How is the weather in september? Is it mostly rainy? Hurricane season?
My flight to Cabo in late September out of Houston Hobby on Southwest was dirt cheap. Like under $400 roundtrip cheap. But that was during the off-peak season and on off-peak days.
Excellent review! Thanks for sharing. Very helpful.
For good calm and beautiful swimmable beaches in Cabo, it’s best to head to the states capital “La Paz” which is 3 hours away!
Interesting comment about the beaches. I had no idea! We are planning a trip to Cabo and I had the illusion of hanging out at the beach all day! We will still go there but it's good to know that fact. Thanks!
Medano beach was fun and for my water fix we went on a fun party snorkeling trip and it was great
Wow Wee..! Thanks for sharing this valuable information!
I’m going for my birthday in a month and some change so this was helpful thank you man!
Great travel points! Thank You!
Hey man. I’m staying at le blanc in Cabo. You should review it. It’s the best all inclusive resort I’ve ever been to. Even trumps some hotels I’ve been to in Dubai .
Please find me a person that paid 5K for week and complained about it LOL
I have been to Cabo 6 times and never paid no more then $600 for my flight from Minnesota
Which hotels did you stay in and how do rate them?
Id avoid those street side ATM and only use atms at the main banks
Resort recommendations?
@@maryb.7522 check out the Villa Del Arco, or the Villa Del Palmar, very nice beach swimming.
on the Uber point - i'm not sure if something has changed recently..
yes, you can't get picked up from the airport via Uber (drop off is okay), but you mentioned not being able to get picked up from your hotel via Uber?
i've stayed at several different hotels in the past year including the The Cape and the RC Reserve and had no issues getting picked up or dropped off via Uber.
sidenote on the RC Reserve, not sure if you plan to come back to Cabo later and do a luxury property run, but i know you'd love it @ the RC Reserve. high marks for customer service (up there with Japan), and the campus, facilities, fit and finish they have is AMAZING. will definitely be back.
Great vid, thank you!
My plane ticket was direct and for two people, including taxes and everything, round trip was $320
Wow #12 eye opener. Thank you.
Super info about the beaches. I did not know that it's strongly advised not to enter the ocean at Cabo.
I go to Mexico all the time it’s safe only people get hurt are the ones asking for trouble but if you a girl no I don’t recommend walking around alone
Very helpful info. Thanks
If you want Uber from the airport, exit and walk around the corner (maybe 100 - 150 yards) to the Oxxo convenience store. They will pick you up there, but if you have a lot of luggage, that could be difficult.
Very helpful thank you!! 🙏🏻
I understand privacy but perhaps a general state for the origin of your airport expense would be helpful. Thx and great content/videos.
I am planning a bachelor party for my buddy and wanted to know what you would recommend for 4 things: Sports Bar, Day Club, Dinner, and Gentlemen club. This would help me greatly!!
Stay in the bavarrro areas for sure.
Tijuana
Do you have a video on the best all inclusive hotels?
The #12 point was what I wished I knew the most when I went to cabo in May.. I love the beach and getting in the water. but baby!! them sand dunes in the water dont play!! I hate it!! however i sat on the beach for the sunrises and breathtaking!
Thanks for the advice about the beach. I am used to the Caribbean where you can jump right in. Cabo is NOT the place for me.
What hotel is that pool with the Marina view???
I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in October 2020, to this day its still my favorite hotel I've stayed at.
You could not be more wrong.
Chileno Beach, Santa Maria and Palmilla are my favorite swimmable beaches. I've swam at Medano Beach by Pueblo Bonito and ME Hotels.
Our flights were $350 each, return. Were you flying from Australia? j/k but wow. Big difference. We leave in 2 weeks.
How much was a typical Uber in Cabo? I’m torn between renting a car or using a person driver. My driver is charging $150 not including tips for round trip hotel transfer.
The flight from West Coast to Cabo is super cheap. I just picked up tickets for next month for under 200 bucks
Awesome video! I Love Cabo!
my flight to Cabo was $450 vs Cancun $1200
I got tickets for $405 roundtrip from dc, so i guess it depends on when and where you're coming from.
Great information! Think I will stick with Cancun. As always, you provide the best tips!!
@@beckyjackson7755 if you don’t mind the humidity
Just a thought but have you traveled to Tulum? It’s kind of a combo of South Beach and cancun
Does anyone know if cigar smoking is allowed on the all adult resorts?
You haven’t mentioned Playa Del Carmen which had beautiful swimmable beaches blue warm water.
Playa mendano in Cabo is great for swimming and watersports. Miles to walk safely on the beach
I just checked airlines flight from Indianapolis high season- $550 round trip.
What hotel is at 4:44?
One can catch a bus for 80 pesos right outside the airports doors to Cabo San Lucas. That was $4.00. It's takes about an hour but just sit back and enjoy the sights on the ride in. There are some nice hotels for less that $150 a night that include a free breakfast buffet that was excellent. For me and the GF easily a $15 buffet so there's a savings of $30 everyday. Restaurants along the harbor are very competitive if one simply walks and shops around a bit.
Oh no Cabo for me then. I need the beach ⛱️
Thanks
Also you can get in the water at the beaches in Cabo you just have to go to the right beaches. Beaches on the western side are more dangerous due to wave activity and drop off...others to the east arent like that
Don’t rent a car in cabo, it says it’s $8 a day but they get you with expensive insurance with 5k deposit as well.
You should have never recommended rent a car.
Looking at round trip tickets for around New Years 22/23…prices are less than $350
James, you gotta try some of the new Cancun area hotels. Playa Mujeres, Costa Mujeres area is REALLY stepping up the game
What resort did you stay in? I love Cabo
@@melaniekerr7909 Copala Quivira I believe it’s called
@@mikeo4338 Thanks for the detailed info. Good to know.
We swam at a local beach and had the best beach day. Less vendors. You could pay to have shaded area. Water was clear and warm.
You should of did a charter trip all inclusive
stayed there all inclusive for 3 days for $800 cad, flights included. not expensive at all. was able to swim at the beach as well.
Hello, where can I exchange dollars for pesos in Cabo (other than the airport)? TIA 🙏🏼
There is an exchange (with good rates) at the Tesoro hotel just right of the entrance.
Have you ever visited Via Del Palmar in Cancun?
Hmm... I booked 5 nights out of Houston to the Riu Baja all inclusive for $1260, round trip flight included.
Hilton Los cabos has the best beach game!
It's more expensive if you live outside of the country if you live inside it's around 350 dollars
