@@AlexErikathanks for the great tips Alex. Do you think it is possible to do the arch tour first and ask the water taxi to drop us off at Medano beach? Would love to try The Office
Overnighting in Cabo is great. We did that a few years ago and it was great to get back on the ship in the evening to relax and refresh and then head back in the morning. Enjoy!
Nice! That is actually one of our favorite options. We have done a couple over nights in Cabo on a cruise ship and it's great having two days in Cabo. Enjoy and have fun!
Is there an option to stay over night at a resort on the two day Cabo interary? We just got back from 5 days at a resort and both my husband and I are very sick!! Not a good way to end our beautiful trip.
I don't because I've never had a message on the beach but in the Medano Beach area just west of the Bar, The Office there are several options. Just negotiate prices up front.
Thanks for the peak at Cabo! You mentioned a person on a scooter can be taken off the ship? Can a person with very limited mobity also get off the tender boat at shore? Thanks for sharing your experience with first timers!
Yes, that should not be a problem. They have two larger tender boats in addition to the regular tenders that are tall enough for some people to walk right off the ship without having to use stairs.
Thanks for this! I just booked back to back cruises in the Mexican riviera and I have two stops in Cabo! I can’t believe you used to have to take the lifeboats in to port 😳
Just had a bad experience on a water taxi in Cabo. The taxi driver didn't park on the shoreline. He was fighting the tides and was attempting to go in and out on the shoreline to let one person out at a time. My brother was getting out and lost his footing some kind of way. He ended up completely rupturing his patellar tendon on his left knee. I sat back and hung with him for the rest of his cruise because he couldn't really use his leg. So our cruise experience wasn't good at all. He's scheduled for surgery soon and I hope he regains most of his mobility.
The water taxi ride is about 5-10 minutes depending on what position the ship anchors that day. 5 minutes being you are the first ship and 10 minutes being you are the 2nd or 3rd ship out depending on how busy it is in Cabo. As for booking your excursion, it all depends on the excursion. The Arch tour and snorkeling is always available the day of. Something like fishing or a private boat charter you would want to book that in advance.
🙌Great Video! I will be in Cabo at the end April and am very interested in Sport Fishing for a few hours while in Cabo San Lucas. The NCL ship that I am on offers an option but they have a total of 6 person on the boat and the total time of their excursion is 5 hours. So that would include the tender time from the ship and transfer to/from the marina leaving say 3 hours or so for fishing. In your video you mentioned a local Cabo contact would/could you provide that information to me as I am definitely interested in a charter. Great Work!
Thank you and the feedback, we haven't personally used a Sport Fishing tour company in Cabo so I don't want to recommend a particular company we haven't used. I think your best option is to search Cabo Fishing on Trip Advisor. I just did a search and there are a lot of good options. I saw some reviews from people who stated they did their tour when they visited via cruise ship.
Thanks for the Information. We will be Cruising to Cabo San Lucas at the end of December. I am seeing prices for a Tour to the "Arco" range from $10.00 to $30.00. Any specific Recommendation or persons to contact?? Do you recommend booking a "Glass Bottom" boat in advance, or should we just wait until we get there? i am assuming that there will be many different individuals asking for us to take their "Tour".
I usually book the day of. We have a Facebook group called Mexican Riviera Cruise Port Information. In the group there is a tour guide Cabo Kelly Boat. They are located at booth B11 at the marina. In the servicio Nautico complex. Great public Bathroom also. You can always book with them the day of. Tell them Alex or Gene sent you. They will take care of you. The glass bottom boat is fun. They also have a clear boat but it's up to you.
Hi Alex, you mentioned someone in Cabo you often pre-organize transportation with. I think you said he was in a facebook group as well. Could you share that information with us? Thanks so much.
Thanks for the helpful info! Do you pay round trip for water taxis to/from Lover’s Beach, or do you do you only hire them one way? I’m just wondering how hard it is to get a one way back from the beach if you didn’t arrange a round trip ride. Thanks!
Hey, sorry for the delay. Lovers beach you pay round trip usually because you don't really want to be left there by yourself. Lovers beach can have high tides and rough waters getting in and out of the water taxi. It's nice for a few photos, to soak your feet in the sand but we usually head back to Medano Beach after 10-15 minutes.
Hi Alex. Thanks so much for the video. Definitely helps a lot for a first timer going to Cabo. For the water taxi do they accept credit card or is it cash only?
Hi! Great tips, I’m a first time cruiser and we’re about to set seas to the Mexican Riviera in just a few weeks. Do you have any suggestions/tips for traveling with a group of 18 people. Age range is 8 months to 90 year old. Looking for activities for the whole family to enjoy! Thank you for your video!! 😊
We just did a back to back cruise with 17 and a wide range of ages. It's tough. For this itinerary. I'd probably do the same items I have mentioned in the video for Cabo, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. If the 90 has decent mobility they should enjoy. For example, in Mazatlan Julian with Red Truck Tours can accommodate mobility scooters. Puerto Vallarta, a visit to the Malecon or a nice resort would be fun. I'm Cabo, the boat rides to the Arch are fun and most ages won't have an issue.
Dear Alex, I am happy that I found your great videos. From January 7 to 14, 2023 I will be on the Carnival Panorama with my mom who will turn 85. I do not feel confident to do things on my own. It's the first time we do this trip starting in Cabo. Would you recommend to book a arch/whale watching tour with Carnival to be on the safe side (although it is more expensive, but well organized)? Muchas gracias.
Does your mom walk around and have pretty good mobility? If she's pretty good with her mobility I would book it the day of when you arrive. But like you said, if you want to be more cautious than book through Carnival. For 2 people the cost won't be that much more.
@@AlexErika This is a prompt and fabulous answer. Mobility is (for her age) pretty good, but she needs from time to time a walking stick. I really like the fun part on the Medano Beach (Mango Deck) you mentioned. Next video is about Mazatlan. Thanks a million. Happy Thanksgiving 🙂
@@sylviamartini1526 you're welcome. Same to you. Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the cruise. We are going back on the Panorama in March. It's always a good time.
Alex We have Cabo as our last port and will only be there until 2 pm or so. Will we be able to do a quick boat tour to the Arc , Medano Beach and Mango deck? Or will it be too early to enjoy those spots?
Yeah, you have plenty of time. It's a bummer because I've done the same itinerary a few times and getting back on at 2 pm is a bummer. But you have time. You only need about an hour to do a boat tour.
Once we did a day pass at Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort and Spa. It was great. A little pricey but it was fun. Not sure what the current price is but you can check out Resort For A Day or contact them directly for availability.
Just pay for one way, as I mentioned in the video, you will have a hard time finding the same water taxi and it's very easy to get a taxi back when you are ready.
Are you talking about Cabo or Puerto Vallarta? Because you commented on the video in Puerto Vallarta which has a marina and dock so there is no need for tenders. Regarding Cabo, the tenders run every 5-10 minutes. How late they run depends on the cruise line policy. If you are overnighting in Cabo the policy varies by cruise line. If the cruise line says you can stay out all hours of the night then they will run every 15-30 minutes through the night. We have had both situations, where we had to be back on the ship by 1 am for example and had to sleep on the ship and another time we could come and go as we pleased.
@@AlexErika sorry, was talking about Cabo San Lucas..In the event we like to grab late (say 10pm) dinner/drinks, wanted to check if the tenders still run that time. Called Royal Carribean support & they didnt have the info, told me the cruise staff would tell us after we board which doesn’t make sense
Hi Alex! Quick question for you. Since the ship gets to Cabo early in the morning. How early are you able to get off the ship to take a water shuttle, do you need a shuttle time to get off the ship?
Usually within 30 minutes of them dropping anchor. If you line up early they will start offloading passengers before they make the general announcement. They want to get passengers off ASAP because time is limited in Cabo. And the Cabo tenders are pretty efficient.
Hi Alex! Great videos. I'm taking a 8-day Mexican Riviera trip in May-June of this year and your videos have been extremely helpful. I do have one question that I haven't been able to find a concrete answer to. I'm a US Citizen who will be traveling out of Long Beach with an adult friend of mine and her two daughters (both daughters under 18 but all 3 are also US Citizens). Do we need to have a passport to enter any of the ports (Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Mazatlan, & Puerto Vallarta) or would a birth certificate and California ID be accepted to be able to enter? I know it's recommended that we travel with a passport but I'm just wondering in the event that we aren't able to obtain them if we'll be able to enter through security once in port. I'm not familiar with the protocol. If you could help me out I would truly appreciate it. Thanks Alex!
Glad the videos have been helpful. Google search Closed Loop Cruise. The cruise you are taking is considered a closed loop cruise because it starts and ends from the same US port. You don't need a passport for this cruise. I actually did this itinerary a few times and with friends when we were younger with just a passport and ID. Also a good idea to take a notorized letter for any friends you are taking who are under 18 years old. Whenever I traveled as a minor my dad always gave me a notorized letter to take with me. Hope that helps. 👍
I am going on a cruise to the Mexican riviera on NYE are there any casinos near any of those ports or beaches that I can take my parents to? Thanks so much
Hi Alex, I’m traveling solo on a cruise and I’m looking for a beach day type relaxing excursion. Do you still recommend medano beach? And the office. Thanks!
If you want it to be more relaxing there are a few places next to The Office that are more chill. Check out the vibe when you arrive. Some places like Mango Deck have a DJ and a lot going on that make it a bit harder to "relax" but there are a few chill options next door.
Is it a lot more expensive to book the excursion on the ship? I’m traveling 1st time with my 2kids & definitely a planner 😅 thanks for this great video. Oh! Also… best hotel in Long Beach? I’m coming from Kansas so is it better to fly into Long Beach or LAX? What are some fun things to do in Long Beach? Coming in January
Generally the cruise lines are 25-50% more expensive on the excursions but it all depends on what you plan on doing. We love to plan ahead as well and we rarely do excursions through the cruise line. We just plan ahead through outside vendors who cater to cruise line passengers. LAX or Long Beach Airport, whatever offers you the best itinerary and price is the airport I would fly into. Hotel Maya is cheaper and within walking distance to the ship if you are sailing on Carnival. The Hyatt Regency is a little pricier but has more activities around the hotel but you will take an Uber or I believe they offer a shuttle to the ship. As for activities in Long Beach or LA, that's tough because there is a lot to do depending on your budget.
Don't have any experience but there is an option right there in the port area. Seems to have good reviews. Check out Vallarta Adventures for more information.
Cabo Tequila Store, it's right outside the marina. That's a good option within walking distance of the port. Otherwise any chain like Walmart is cheap but that's farther away.
Hello I’m going in March with my 5 children! What are the best excursions? I also checked with Royal Caribbean and majority of all of their excursions are all sold out😢
we’re doing mexican riviera in december for the first time and my understanding is the tender boat will take u straight to the marina first then tour starts there weather u book it through cruise line or on your own? thanks
Yes but they will collect the bottle and return it to you the evening of the last night on board. We usually buy a few bottles to bring home and check them with security when we return to the ship.
I think you will get much better value planning your own excursions. You will save money and usually you can do a private tour. Large tours only move as fast as the slowest person in your tour group.
All these options will work. I speak very little Spanish. You will find in Mexico, anyone working in travel and tourism speaks a decent amount of English.
As far as excursions go? You will find that all of these ports are pretty friendly for scooters. Even Cabo where you have to use the water shuttle has a couple large water shuttles that you can roll right on without any issues. As for excursions, it depends on what you like. I would likely do a resort pass as I mentioned in the videos but if a swimming pool is not ideal or appealing than I would do the cultural / city tours offered either through the cruise line or with the company I mentioned. If that is not appealing you can do a can taxi to the main part of town and explore on your own. Also in Mazatlán, the tour I mentioned with my friend Julian and the Red Truck Tours, he has a ramp option for people to do his city tour with a mobility scooter. That is a great tour. Check him out on Facebook, he has some photos of other people using a scooter who took his tour. Have a great time!
Cabo doesn't really have a downtown. The port area is in the central area of town especially for tourism. That entire area is very safe and very walkable.
It's a great spot for snorkeling but impossible to walk to and from unless the tide was extremely low. Most people get to Pelican Rock by water taxi and then have the water taxi drop them off at Medano Beach afterwards.
At the snorkeling spot? Yes, because there isn't any beach area by Pelican Rock. The water taxi is right there the entire time to make sure you stay safe. Usually after 20-30 minutes people are tired and get back on the water taxi boat.
In Cabo? El Toro Guero Seafood if you want to eat really good local seafood. If you want to stay by the beach the Office has very good food but it's a little more pricey.
Yes, you can walk. It's about a 25 minute walk. Type in The Office into Google maps and you will get directions from the dock. Along the beach might be a bit longer because the sand really slows you down.
Not sure about sharks but it would still be a fairly dangerous swim. There is a LOT of boat activity so you'd be in a dangerous spot. Plus on the sea of Cortez side the water can be fairly rough so it would not be a safe swim with all the rocks around you. When you take a tour to go snorkeling they get you past the rough areas to a fairly calm spot that is safe for snorkeling.
Thanks, Alex, for this info. My husband and I are taking our first cruise in January to the Mexican Riviera with our two young kids (3 & 5). Do you have any tips for activities or things to know for any of these ports with the kids? Thank you 😊
Cabo, the kids at least ours enjoyed the boat trip out to the Arch and playing on the beach over at Medano Beach. Mazatlan, I'd still do the red truck tour, I think it's fun for all ages. Puerto Vallarta, I'd definitely do the resort pass at the hotel I mentioned in the video for Puerto Vallarta. That's a fantastic hotel. If not, the Pirate Ship excursion or Las Caletas are great. I also mentioned those in the video.
I will be going with my parents who are elderly and can only walk a short distance, it would also be very hard for them to get in and out of a water taxi, any recommendations on how we can get to a beach from the port? Great Video! 👍
Sorry for the late reply, we just returned from another cruise in Europe. My suggestion, take a traditional taxi to the beach. they are very common and easy to get. It will be a little more expensive but they can drop you about 50 yards from the water next to Mango Deck and The Office. Hope that helps.
Bummer. I have been disappointed with the Office and probably won't go back anytime soon. They ripped me off with a bad bottle of tequila they sold me.
@@JawesomeMeister forgot the name but they had us try a good bottle but what we brought home was cheap tequila. They switched the bottles on us without me noticing. That's an old trick and surprised I fell for it.
Generally all the bars are pretty family friendly and many close at 7-8. Our experience with beach bars and regular bars is that they really don't enforce age restrictions until 9-10 pm when the bar turns into more of a club. As for buying a bottle, yes but security will hold it and give it back to you on the last night of the cruise.

@@cheeku28 yeah, that's usually odd but a lot has to do with the captain. But they usually know in advance so you can plan accordingly.
And my bad, you actually did comment on the correct video. 👍😉
Is it easy to find jet ski rentals at Medano Beach on your own? I really don’t want to do it through the cruise line!
Very easy, they are always available. The only time it's not is if the weather is bad but that is pretty rare.
Thanks so much
Both, I discuss this in detail. Casinos are not huge like you are used to in the States but they do exist in Mexico.
@@AlexErika thank you!
Thank you!
You're welcome. Hope it was helpful.
Do you recommend any swimming with dolphins excursions in Cabo?
Don't have any experience but there is an option right there in the port area. Seems to have good reviews. Check out Vallarta Adventures for more information.
Hey Alex, do you have any recommendations for Liquor stores?
Cabo Tequila Store, it's right outside the marina. That's a good option within walking distance of the port.
Otherwise any chain like Walmart is cheap but that's farther away.
Hi, is it possible to do glass boat tour in cabo if cruise stay there on 6 to 8 hrs?
Yes, absolutely. A glass boat tour is only an hour or two. You can decide how long you want to go.
Hello I’m going in March with my 5 children! What are the best excursions? I also checked with Royal Caribbean and majority of all of their excursions are all sold out😢
.
we’re doing mexican riviera in december for the first time and my understanding is the tender boat will take u straight to the marina first then tour starts there weather u book it through cruise line or on your own? thanks
Correct. The tour will start after the tender / water shuttle to the Marina.
Have a fantastic cruise!
thank you, i’ll be watching the mazatlan and puerto vallarta video as well. great info
I'll be visiting Cabo in November and would like to do snorkeling. Should I book that in advance or can snorkeling be arranged on the same day?
Easily the same day. Water Taxi / Snorkel Excursion to Pelican Rock is very popular and always available.
Thank you for this information. Do cruise ships allow you to bring a bottle of tequila back onto the ship?
Yes but they will collect the bottle and return it to you the evening of the last night on board. We usually buy a few bottles to bring home and check them with security when we return to the ship.
Does that mean you can drink it the last night on the ship?
What about renting jet skis in Cabo? Easy ?
Along Medano beach it's pretty easy to rent wave runners.
What kind of weather can I expect late October, is it worth it?
It's going to be nice! The warmest months are September and October.
I want to visit the casa dorada resort , which cruise line offers this excursion ?
You should contact them directly and ask or check the Resort Pass or Resort for a Day websites.
Are the private tours and excursion worth it over the carnival package in Puerto Vallarta?
I think you will get much better value planning your own excursions. You will save money and usually you can do a private tour. Large tours only move as fast as the slowest person in your tour group.
Any suggestions for someone who mostly just speaks English?
All these options will work. I speak very little Spanish. You will find in Mexico, anyone working in travel and tourism speaks a decent amount of English.
Do you have to pay for the water taxi ticket to get off the cruise ship?
No, no expense getting on and off the ship. That's part of your port charges you pay with your cruise. Port charges cover these expenses.
Any suggestions for Mexican Riviera stops with someone who uses a mobility scooter?
@@AlexErika thank you so much!
Is downtown Cabo far from the port? If so whatsbthe safest way to get there?
Cabo doesn't really have a downtown. The port area is in the central area of town especially for tourism. That entire area is very safe and very walkable.
Is pelican rock a good snorkel spot? is it walking distance from medano beach?
It's a great spot for snorkeling but impossible to walk to and from unless the tide was extremely low. Most people get to Pelican Rock by water taxi and then have the water taxi drop them off at Medano Beach afterwards.
@@AlexErika thx for the info. Does the water taxi wait for you or will there usually be a lot of them there?
At the snorkeling spot? Yes, because there isn't any beach area by Pelican Rock. The water taxi is right there the entire time to make sure you stay safe. Usually after 20-30 minutes people are tired and get back on the water taxi boat.
@@AlexErika thank you!
Anyplace recommended to eat at the port?
In Cabo? El Toro Guero Seafood if you want to eat really good local seafood. If you want to stay by the beach the Office has very good food but it's a little more pricey.
can you walk to medano beach from the port?
Yes, you can walk. It's about a 25 minute walk. Type in The Office into Google maps and you will get directions from the dock. Along the beach might be a bit longer because the sand really slows you down.
can i swim from the marina to the arch on the sea of cortez side where its calmer than the pacific ocean side? are there sharks in the water?
Not sure about sharks but it would still be a fairly dangerous swim. There is a LOT of boat activity so you'd be in a dangerous spot. Plus on the sea of Cortez side the water can be fairly rough so it would not be a safe swim with all the rocks around you. When you take a tour to go snorkeling they get you past the rough areas to a fairly calm spot that is safe for snorkeling.
@@AlexErika thank you
You're welcome.
@@AlexErika , thank you, these are great tips!
Love cabo
Cabo is always a great time!
@@AlexErika Europe? Nice. Where did you go on that cruise?
Got food poisoning at The Office... never again!
Bummer. I have been disappointed with the Office and probably won't go back anytime soon. They ripped me off with a bad bottle of tequila they sold me.
@@AlexErika which bottle of tequila and how much was it?
@@JawesomeMeister forgot the name but they had us try a good bottle but what we brought home was cheap tequila. They switched the bottles on us without me noticing. That's an old trick and surprised I fell for it.
Can you go into these bars if you have kids with you? Can you buy a bottle of booze and bring it back on the ship?
Generally all the bars are pretty family friendly and many close at 7-8. Our experience with beach bars and regular bars is that they really don't enforce age restrictions until 9-10 pm when the bar turns into more of a club.
As for buying a bottle, yes but security will hold it and give it back to you on the last night of the cruise.
