    Thank you for not complicating things, just showing where to put your fingers. That's all we beginners really need to know. Some of us can play and some of us can't, I'm somewhere in the middle, but we all want to know one simple thing... where we should put our fingers. Your intuitive teaching style tells me you were once a beginner, too. Thank you for remembering us! 🎸💖

    Actually, if you listen closely, the chord at the 1:53 mark is A-string: open; D string: 10th fret, G-string: "12th" fret; B-string: open; and he hits the high E string open, a little delayed as he arpeggiates that chord.

    Damn I remember struggling to learn this from the vinyl in high school when it came out. Hundreds of times picking up the tonearm and moving it back and straining your ear to try to figure out exactly what he was doing. I still think that is the best way to learn. Except for the vinyl part. Great lesson. Thank you.

    I've been playing as long as you. Love your channels. And I was blown away after all these years by learning that when you bend that Low E the first time you hit the open D the first time and the open A the second time throughout.
    Wow. I laughed. Playing it wrong all these years. And the audience never cared lol 😂 😂. Only we guitar players care.
    Go ahead play it. You'll go "damn" like I did.

    Live he played the intro around the 9th,10th, 12th frets bending the B slightly at the 12th to create the slur. Much easier to sound right. The hardest part of the tune is the arppegiated picking throughout.

  • @NashEurope
    @NashEurope 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, nice flatpicking. At 2:05 - G should be on 12 instead of 9. That also counts for the repeating chord in the verse e.g. at 3:10. The riff e.g. at 6.33 where you need to pull the lower E string from F# to G, you play an open A, which should be an open D. Anyway, thanks for posting, cause it's one of the best songs ever written.

    • @jamesjames9275
      @jamesjames9275  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe he played that first chord with G on 12 in live versions, but I don't hear it that way on the studio recording.

    Hey James, great work. On the signature note lick, F#->G I play first a D note (open D) and the an open A. But I have to say, I've been screwing around with that last run for ages, thx for showing how. Maybe you could do 'Still... You Turn Me On' at some point, there's one or two chord shapes I'm missing (the ones I use sound okay, but they're not right...) Any thx again, you have really revived my playing. I'm even getting my Larrivee J10 fixed after like 18yrs of having a cracked top...

Thanks for a great song! Next do Karn Evil Nine,1st Impression.Just kidding.Thanks again.

      Yes I do this. Just tuck the pick into your palm and grab the low E + octave 2nd fret on D and trill to E sharp. Or F if you prefer. Then back to the bend which needs to done from the 2nd fret up to a perfect 5th with the open D as described above by Crux. Great lesson, thanks!

    So...I just watched in the beginning from OfficialGregLake published in 09. In the very first few notes it looks as if he never leaves the three fret block of 10,11,12. Not criticizing, just wondering what notes he's using. I have small hands and snausages for fingers so; the less movement for me the better, lol
