Kids today would rather play a video game instead of picking up a guitar. I feel lucky we grew up when we did. ✌🏽❤️🇺🇸🎸
I'm born in 1975 so was a baby at that time...however my ears have always decided who I should listen to and I have never wanted to do like others if my ears told me not to...I've been listening to King crimson, ELP etc...for years in college and nobody understood what the f* I was listening to when they all were listening to Madonna and other stuff...up to now I have never betrayed my ears 🤣
I'll take a good guess and say that your parents back then, used to listen to this great music ( good and loud ) back when you were just a little tike. And it's been breed into you, just like everything else in life.
Were you there? Do you remember those feelings? That feel? The Saturdays in the park, the adolescent girl friend, when love was the real thing. Because that’s when it WAS real. All that adult stuff later was a pale comparison, right? Ahh, you know. When the world was turning slower, when snowstorms were the real deal, home from school, never minding sleeping in. You couldn’t wait to get out. The Beatles, early Stones, Tommy James and the Shondells, and the lot. They say you only live once- what do they know? What if it IS really all in your mind? Then that’s okay. Bring it up at your leisure, anytime. We were the luckiest. And when we are gone, there will be no reliable trace or vestige of what we had, what made our young lives so incredibly special, untouchable… Well, here’s to that! And here’s to you! To us! Thanks Greg for your talent and sharing it with we, the special group.

In the 1960s too. Born in 1951 in a home that appreciated all kinds of music. I can remember my older sister begging to go see Elvis just as he was getting songs on the radio. I was there. ELP at the Forum. Those "feelings" "that feel" I would not trade it for anything in the world. The most divine and delicious part of my life. Seriously, seriously you had to be there. Pure magic.
These songs are so good and greg was so young when he wrote them, there is no talent like what we had in the 60s and 70s and 80s these were real musicians, this crap we listen to now sucks
This very surely could be one of the greatest songs written of all time in my opinion. Greg Lake was a hidden genius even at this point of his career. The line "don't be unkind" really hits me hard and hits home. It's crazy that this level of genius can come from one person it shouldn't be possible. The lyrics to this song are unimaginably insane and some of the greatest I've ever heard. "I think of laying in bed" is another one that just proves the greatness of this man. So simple yet so deep and somber. NOT EVEN TO MENTION the insane guitar riff at the beginning and throughout the whole entire song. This song is just so incredible the love I have for it is insane. Most definitely my vote for greatest song of all time. Greg Lake, you and your genius will always be in my heart. You were one of the greatest musicians to ever walk this Earth. and always remember as a wise man once said, "don't be unkind." - Greg Lake - From the Beginning. P.S. I truly think that Emerson Lake and Palmer were one of the most underrated bands I have ever seen. This song is so good it still baffles me to this day. I can't stop thinking about the lyrics. SO deep and simple as I said prior. Anyways, I'll let you all on with your days and thank you for taking your time out of your day to read this from the heart message from me. "You were meant to be here" Rest In Peace, Greg Stuart Lake. Gone, but never forgotten. Greatness never leaves, it is just brought among other people in other places. Greg Lake's legacy will forever live on and I am sure of that. This song will forever be my favorite and I don't ever see this changing. This song has truly changed my life and I will thank Greg Lake for that. So thank you Greg Lake and all the talent you had and all you stood for. You will forever be a legend. "Don't be unkind" such a true statement said that not many people live by. Such a beautiful and incredibly written song. Rest In Peace Greg Stuart Lake. You are forever in my, and many other people's hearts. From The Beginning. Greatest. Song. Ever. Thank You. I love you all. From the Beginning.
You know @jmacu, I would completely have to agree with you . This song holds an insanely important place in my heart. As you said, the lines "don't be unkind" and also, "I think of lying in bed," are some of the greatest written lyrics of all time. But, another lyric that gets overlooked in this song is, "It don't mean I'm blind." That lyric is severely underrated and so heartfelt. It's just so true! Just because you missed some things doesn't mean you blind! You can still be there with people even if you have missed things! The level of genius from this one man has always blown my mind. The meaning to this song is truly incredible and I very much agree with your take. RIP Greg Lake!!!\ P.S. Isn't it crazy we have similar names!
YES! I have been waiting for someone to have the same opinion on Greg Lake that I have had for years!! I love him and his song writing so much. He will forever be a legend and forever be in my heart.
j macu So aptly put . If only I could have written as well as you , I would have. Thank you for this lovely comment. Whenever I am down this great song with such powerful lyrics gently lifts me up.
Great lyrics from a true gentleman. I never heard a bad word come out of his mouth and only praise from others that worked with him. Look up what Ringo has said about him and touring in his All Star Band. Greg learned all the Beatle songs just in case they decided to play one at a drop of a hat. A lot of work for something that may not happen. Unfortunately he is gone but not forgotten. We miss you Greg. You helped to make the world a better place. See you soon my friend.
i met him...he was a good guy no doubt about it..he represented the best of his generation..which i was a part of...godspeed greg...you were 1 in million
In August of 72 I first heard this on an FM station in Maryland at night. It was back when many FM stations were still a bit underground……Greg has the talent of multiple people…….an absolute magnificent song and words, we miss you Greg….RIP.

Takes me back. I remember sleeping in the woods with my friends and an AM radio. I`m talkin` 70`s.I can remember this song and "Midnight At the Oasis" A big fire and a tent. Real good times in my life. A couple bottles of Strawberry Hill would make sure we had good times we`ll never forget. Emerson Lake and Palmer will be forever cemented in my memory. I can still see the stars in the sky.
Geez that sounds amazing! I was a small child then. For some reason I always heard "Midnight At The Oasis" but I didn't hear this song until I was in my teens.
Yes....Moody Blues sings live at concerts as well. If you cannot do a concert live, then don't bother doing a concert! Gregg will sadly be missed. What a fantastic voice.
OK, Emerson Lake and Palmer! I saw them on TV one time years ago. The drum platform raised up and spun over and over in the air, not around in a circle, but upside down while the drummer played! Did anyone else see that? I was amazed! At the time I’d never seen anything like that. I’m 67 now.
Never will there be another like GREG LAKE. My ultimate favorite musician, composer, bassist, lyricist and gentleman. The world is less creative without him. And Keith as well.
I kinda think I like this one more. No offense to Keith who actually pioneered the Moog Synthesizer success. Just an awesome song. Not even rock its pure latin jazz. So fucking great!!
"From the Begining" Another in my personal list of "Perfect Songs" that provides the artist with a level of immortality that will be enjoyed and savored for generations to come. R.I.P., Greg.
One of my favorite songs. Love this song and group. Summer of 1972, when this was released I was 17 yrs old. By Summer of 1973, I was in the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island, South Carolina. Three months of Boot Camp, changed my life forever. Semper Fidelis from an old Marine Sergeant.
@AL- G. thank you for your service. My Dad was a Ranger, in Germany right after WW-2. He spent a lot of time on East-West Germany border, aka DMZ. I had to be different and join the Marine Corps. Stay safe, Semper Fi.
I just about wore this song out in the '70s, camping trips, beach parties, depressed and alone on the headphones at home, it really is a huge part of the soundtrack of my life.
I'm VERY surprised Greg's not playing a Gibson J-200! He LOVED that guitar and owned at least 6 or 7 of them and played a J-200 on the original recording. Greg even did an entire interview just about how much he loved the Gibson J-200 and why! Yet here is playing something else on a performance of his most iconic song on his own TH-cam channel. Mind boggling. 😳
I come back here, all the time..to hear this beauty. there might have been things I missed...but don't be unkind. Ah, Greg..Such a good soul...wherever you are, in this big universe. It's all clear. You were meant to be here...from the beginning. Enhancing my life.. all of our lives...
They’re all gone now. I get this lost feeling if I think about it too much. At 67 yrs of age, I got to see and hear it all in the way of the most beautiful music ever created. Those times are pretty much gone now. Sadness.
wow its very true. everybody is going away. I can understand your feeling because at 67 you must think about the end yourself a lot. I hope it will be a painless departure.
There are only a small handful of rock musicians who have a voice that is almost angelic, you put Greg's in that handful. Whether ELP, or Asia, he just had the wonderful gift of sounding so warm and peaceful. RIP sir and THANK YOU for leaving your voice for the world to STILL enjoy.

All of us here on music row at capital records wanted to give you Mr Greg lake a salute to all you have given us in the music 🎶 world thank you so much for your life time,

Greg Lake was a kind, generous & talented man.
His music has stayed with me all of these years.
I cry as I listen to his music & lyrics.
I am happy that there are these videos of him playing posted on TH-cam.
I truly miss him, his voice which got better with maturity.
I loved Greg as a musician & the sound of his soothing voice.

He strikes me as someone who would be kind.
GorGeous!!! … Kids, kids…. this is what music is. This is what perfect music sounds like, how perfect music is performed. This is blues. God bless Greg Lake, God rest his beautiful soul.
So sad that this voice and that guitar playing has been silenced.
Wrong, you can't silence history! Let's just be grateful that we are blessed to have been alive in the greatest era of music.
'm old now and in heaven it'll be one heck of great concerts to see and hear
The guy was great. So glad to have been him.😁
Me too🥲
I think Fripp was jealous of him
I was there. ELP at the Forum. Those "feelings" "that feel" I would not trade it for anything in the world. The most divine and delicious part of my life. Seriously, seriously you had to be there. Pure magic.
Thank you Greg for making the ride just a little easier. RIP brother....

Trumppppppppppp 2020
Became a big fan just lately.. I'm 57
Amen!
Fuck off @@coachchris548
These songs are so good and greg was so young when he wrote them, there is no talent like what we had in the 60s and 70s and 80s these were real musicians, this crap we listen to now sucks
I just said this to my 85yo father
Excellent version! RIP, Greg.
Mr. Gregory Stuart Lake Rest In Peace 😭😎🤘
RIP Greg Lake!!!\
P.S. Isn't it crazy we have similar names!
YES! I have been waiting for someone to have the same opinion on Greg Lake that I have had for years!! I love him and his song writing so much. He will forever be a legend and forever be in my heart.
I totally agree my friend. Awesomeness
j macu
So aptly put . If only I could have written as well as you , I would have.
Thank you for this lovely comment.
Whenever I am down this great song with such powerful lyrics gently lifts me up.
!!!+++
My first concert with my brother Hector. That is passed away, bout 74
AMEN.. R. I. P.
i met him...he was a good guy no doubt about it..he represented the best of his generation..which i was a part of...godspeed greg...you were 1 in million
Gone to soon.. Rip gl
In August of 72 I first heard this on an FM station in Maryland at night. It was back when many FM stations were still a bit underground……Greg has the talent of multiple people…….an absolute magnificent song and words, we miss you Greg….RIP.
@@mooseandsquirrel9887 November, I'm from Baltimore and graduated high school 72' wonder if that fm station was whfs? We all thought we were really hip listening to that underground station!
Dam, wish I could have been with yall
Ya Baby. A little Boones Farm never hurt a fellow.
Speak for yourself. That stuff was rotgut
Geez that sounds amazing! I was a small child then. For some reason I always heard "Midnight At The Oasis" but I didn't hear this song until I was in my teens.
@@prometheus5700 was speaking for myself.
Music is the only thing that heals my wounds of today's everyday life!
Golden voice of decades. R.I.P Greg, you are truly missed.
April 2024 - STILL listening
Heard this song when I was growing up but finally in early 2024 finally appreciated it. Better late than never.
Me too.
Only the great artist sound as good live as they do in the studio. Greg Lake is one of those artists.
Gone but not forgotten / LOTS GREAT SONGS THAT HAVE A DOWN TO EARTH FEEL % MAY YOU BE PLAYING IN HEAVEN
I agree
Hi Ike, how you been? Yeah Greg is one of my favorites. Sadly gone by now.
ELP is, by in large, a live band in general I think. Heard Greg say that in an interview on TH-cam and it made sense to me.
Yes....Moody Blues sings live at concerts as well. If you cannot do a concert live, then don't bother doing a concert! Gregg will sadly be missed. What a fantastic voice.
I will listen to this over and over Greg is not Dead he is here with us in his music .. we were meant to be here
I was so sad to hear of his passing. Now the only one left in ELP is Carl... so sad. they were an astute and intrinsic band
Love that comment!
I do the same thing 🤗
Awesomeness
AMEN.. TO THAT
OK, Emerson Lake and Palmer! I saw them on TV one time years ago. The drum platform raised up and spun over and over in the air, not around in a circle, but upside down while the drummer played! Did anyone else see that? I was amazed! At the time I’d never seen anything like that. I’m 67 now.
I utterly adored this song as a teen...it is every bit as beautiful now...inspired!!
same here...I'm 64 and love this! He sounds GREAT! gone too soon!
A piece untouched by time, huh? And this arrangement accomplishes everything the original does and then some.
Great song
RIP Mr. Lake. Thank you for making the world a better place.
Never will there be another like GREG LAKE. My ultimate favorite musician, composer, bassist, lyricist and gentleman. The world is less creative without him. And Keith as well.
Wow, is it possible to love this version more than the original? You were meant to be here Mr. Greg Lake & we are all the better for it. RIP
I love this version also❤️🇦🇺
Many Thanks...from ....🕉
I kinda think I like this one more. No offense to Keith who actually pioneered the Moog Synthesizer success. Just an awesome song. Not even rock its pure latin jazz. So fucking great!!
"From the Begining"
Another in my personal list of "Perfect Songs" that provides the artist with a level of immortality that will be enjoyed and savored for generations to come.
@@usmc-veteran73-77 Thank you for your service! I was 22 in 1972, I still love this song! US Army Ranger 2-Tours (1969 & 70') in Vietnam, hit twice
@AL- G. thank you for your service. My Dad was a Ranger, in Germany right after WW-2. He spent a lot of time on East-West Germany border, aka DMZ. I had to be different and join the Marine Corps. Stay safe, Semper Fi.
64 ...and still lov in it. thanks greg.RIP
I just about wore this song out in the '70s, camping trips, beach parties, depressed and alone on the headphones at home, it really is a huge part of the soundtrack of my life.
great. me the soundtrack of my life is monster mash
You see it's all clear, you were meant to be here. 😃
70 years old and this still gets to me.the younger generations have no idea what they missed.wth is a kid rock?????
I'm VERY surprised Greg's not playing a Gibson J-200! He LOVED that guitar and owned at least 6 or 7 of them and played a J-200 on the original recording. Greg even did an entire interview just about how much he loved the Gibson J-200 and why! Yet here is playing something else on a performance of his most iconic song on his own TH-cam channel. Mind boggling. 😳
This is when music was music.R. I. P. My friend.
This song truly touches your soul. Brings back memories of young love and regrets! Timeless music .RIP Greg!
I'll never do anything this cool in my whole life 🎵🎶👍
I come back here, all the time..to hear this beauty. there might have been things I missed...but don't be unkind. Ah, Greg..Such a good soul...wherever you are, in this big universe. It's all clear. You were meant to be here...from the beginning. Enhancing my life.. all of our lives...
Beautiful words, Patti Martin. You sound like someone I'd like to know. Thank you.
Thank you Patti - I think you helped me understand these eternally felt lyrics more!
Well said.
I was very fortunate to catch ELP live in Milwaukee. 1977-78 I believe.
Full orchestra backing them up.
Outstanding!! 🎶

I believe you are correct. I was there and ever since have been dreamily haunted by his voice.
We took the 70's for granted
Emerson, Lake and Palmer. God blessed America.
How can anyone not love this mans voice
They’re all gone now. I get this lost feeling if I think about it too much. At 67 yrs of age, I got to see and hear it all in the way of the most beautiful music ever created. Those times are pretty much gone now. Sadness.
Those times are gone, the music is all we have left plus the memories. Much sadness to say the least.
wow its very true. everybody is going away. I can understand your feeling because at 67 you must think about the end yourself a lot. I hope it will be a painless departure.
I'm in the same boat. 67 bad health. I pray Alot these days as I should. Always wondering how much time I've got left.
tenho 68 e ouvi esta e muitas outras músicas quando tinha os meus 17 anos ... os não passaram por nós...
Very few artists can touch your soul. This man did it in spades. RIP Mr. Lake.
☮️💜. I LOVE HIS VOICE !! After all these years it still makes me SMILE !! RIP Greg !! 💜
Greg Lake was not in Asia. John Wetton was the lead singer in Asia.
@@jamesspalten5977 Lake replaced Wetton for a while in Asia when the latter left and needed a replacement. Palmer asked him to.
Didn't know that.
Nice!
TIMELESS....!
Greg’s voice got better with time. I know my hearing didn’t. God Bless Greg Lake
For me, Greg was the most beautiful male voice in Rock.
He still sounded good in 2005 but boy what an unbelievable sound his voice had back in the day
You can have all those rock tenors, I'll take the baritone and Greg was by far the best!
David Gilmour too.
NO HAS ESCUCHADO MUCHO ENTONCES............
An ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT musical genius... and FABULOUS rendition of this MASTERPIECE !!! R.I.P. Greg Lake and Keith Emerson...💔😢🎼🎸🎧💜🥁
Wow, what so beutifull music
Amazing to think 7 years ago Greg sadly passed away gone never forgotten just like Keith
Great 👍 Band. I used to lessen to them back in the 70's
Great Memories of this great song all over the radio back in the wonderful 70's.
I love how age deepened his voice. So moving. A song for the ages.

i agree his voice has become even better!!!
At age 68, I am late joining the admirers of ELP, but better late than never. This song is such a masterpiece. We will never see the likes of Greg Lake again.
