You and your wife (camera crew) work well together. Whenever I want a detail explanation on how to setup my plane I switch to your channel. Keep it up.
Is it bad that the first thing I thought of when I saw this video was a flashback of your other Timber UMX flying into the sign post at the old house?!? I really do appreciate that you share those types of moments with us. It was a huge confidence booster for me when I was just getting started (and still is). You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the hard work that goes into your content.
Thanks Eric, and no it's not bad :) I've crashed many times for our videos, and it's just kinda part of the hobby...there are less of them as I improve as a pilot, but they won't every be totally prevented in my best estimation.
I just set mine up. The SAFE didn't work at first, but then the second time it did work just like yours. Odd, but ready to go fly her. Thanks for doing these BTW. Very helpful, even for a semi-experienced pilot like myself. Keep up the great work.
Brian Philips I can't stress enough how great full I am I found this! you are my hero I'm about to binge watch some of your content and see what else I might find helpful! hope you have an awesome day and stay healthy good Sir!
Thanks so much for the video! After a hiatus from balsa rc models 10 years ago, I got this for some stress relief here at home. Your setup was great, and I had the same rudder and SAFE issues. The step by step helped a lot, and I am amazed how far this tech has come since the AM and FM frequency radio days. First flight tonight, and I mixed in some flap-elevator , but had two good 3 min flights! You have a new subscriber !! Thanks!
I'm so glad I could help you back into the addiction - Surprised you were gone for so long...you must have had a GREAT support group ;) RC Aircraft has come so far in the last 15 years...it was unrecognizable when I got into it about 5.5 years ago...
Today I graduated from my rtf Sport Cub S2 to my bnf UMX Turbo Timber with a NX6 radio. This video sure made it easier. Man, the flaps sure make the landings softer! Thanks!
Had an issue with turbo timber flaps stopped working, but right before they stopped my takeoff flaps gave a full down elevator but full flaps elevator went back to level. I have to thank you for pointing me to Horizon Hobby, they replaced the plane for me unbelievable great customer service like you say. Thanks Brian enjoy your channel
They take care of customers so much better than any other Hobby company I've worked with in the past. They actually stand behind their stuff!!! So glad you had a great experience....even though things weren't perfect at first.
bought mine a few days ago... Love the flaps!!! I live in the city so space is limited, although I have a big yard.....NOT GOOD AT ALL IN THE WIND...A beginner will NOT be able to handle it in the wind..If a beginner buys this plane, consider first flights in a large field.. If you get in trouble , KILL THE THROTTLE FIRST, THEN ATTEMPT TO RE GAIN CONTROL...ALWAYS KILL THE THROTTLE WHEN IT GETS OUTA HAND...YOU WILL SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY!!! I am a scale flyer so this plane will fly better with less than half throttle once airborn... Night flying is awesome with a moon!!! Thanks for the Vids!!
This is hands down the BEST SET UP Video for the UMX Turbo timber BOUND TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN A GOD DAMN DX6 lol every freaking video I found before yours was not detailed at all and no one had anything higher than dx6! I have a dx8 and I wanted to know if there was anything different I had to do from transmitter to transmitter! after watching you doing it with a DX18 I was so happy!! YOUR PERSISTENCE IS KEY!!!! I was so frustrated after buying my UMX TT that I couldn't get my set up absolutely perfect and go for my maiden!!! but now you have made my DAY!!! LIFE SAVER!!!! thank you so much for your time and effort!!!! and persistence! amazing content! liked and subscribed and notification bell! all the things!
Thanks again Samuel! We do this on so many plane, I've lost track ;) It's sometimes frustrating to fiddle with things, to get these planes flying nice, but when you do, they can be sooo much better! Glad you're enjoying the content. If you like THIS video, you'll LOVE this channel!
Thanks a lot! I'm glad I could help you make an informed decision! Thank you for buying planes with my links! It helps us to justify the enormous amount of time we spend on this channel ;) Turbo Timber UMX bit.ly/3fxTDQd
I bought this plane and will say its what I want to take to the park. I have bigger planes, even have jets. There is just no way I will arrive at the park without it. I just LOVE this little thing. It hangs with the big boys in the wind no problem.
Brian, Thanks for the video. I just finished setting up my UMX turbo timber and new DX8 using your UMX timber video of 2 years ago. It helped a bunch. I will definitely go over this video to look for any items I missed. I appreciate the detail you go into in model setup and especially the transmitter since I have less than one weeks experience with the DX8! Rich
Glad I could help! Setting up the radios is a steep learning curve, but when you get used to it, they are SOOOOO powerful! If you think this plane is bad, you should see my Airbus A380 radio setup - it's kinda CRAZY ;) Good luck Rich!
Hi Brian little mod I done... Pull the right side nose led off, put it through the hole and stick it to the flat front under prop. It looks fantastic in flight, gives you nice bright nose light. I know you love your lights.... Yep me too.
Just bought one of these yesterday and when I set it up the rudder was off about the same as yours, crazy! Using a Radiomaster TX16S, have everything working except for SAFE. Will have to try the stick position and switch flipping you described.
If you make the channel assignment first, should work for you. The Rx is what handles the SAFE Select, so the Transmitter is indifferent to what's happening on the other end.
I owe you a big debt of gratitude. I went out and bought this plane and a DX6e transmitter. It is my second plane, RTF Sport Cub was first. Anyway I don’t think I could have set it up and got it to bind without your videos. Admittedly it took me a good while but I succeeded. Thanks again
I have no intentions on leaving. Enjoying and learning a ton of stuff from your videos……But, there is always a but, isn’t there? After 2 days of trying I still can’t figure out how to set the dual rates. If you weren’t 1500 miles away I would be knocking on your front door with my transmitter in one hand and a 6 pack in the other
I must have spent 30 +mins watching the D/R & Expo part at the slowest speed TH-cam will let me watch to and understand those settings you were entering. Finally got them, thanks to you and your wife!
I'm so glad you got them!!!!!! Sorry it was such a challenge! With dual rates / expo, we've covered the same setup so many times, I do go pretty quick with them. If you ever run into a situation like this, and I know this might be pretty tough, but check out a similar plane and see if the setup makes sense to you there. Either way, we're so glad you got it!!!
Been using the venom 300mah on mine. This is my first plane in 15 years. Just getting back in the hobby. Crashed and broke the nose/ motor off mine twice. A little glue and it flies great after my re-learning curve.
This is one of my issues. even following this video, the 280 mA battery just seems so small. I have to put it so far fwd to get any center of gravity. Any suggestions on how much bigger i can go?
I couldn't find the BNF file on my NX10, so this video was a huge helping hand for someone who hasn't been in the hobby for a while and have lots of new tech to understand.
I bought a 1.5M TT Evo but didn't have the guts to fly with only flying a sport cub s2. I picked up the UMX TT and absolutely love it. Now I'm really excited to try the big brother 1.5M TT Evo. Appreciate your videos and replies to comments. That's all helped me a great deal with this hobby!!! Thanks Brian!!!
I have one and it's one of my go to aircraft. I love it, the LCD lights are 9-10, the best light setup of all the planes I have owned. I use 3S 500s, and its as fast as a Scalded Ape.
Just ordered the UMX TT from Horizon and can't wait to fly. Great video, especially for me as a novice the transmitter setup is very helpful. Thanks for your help.
Finally, a plane that I don't have to buy because I already have it..lol. I don't know how to feel right now. Usually, I have to fight off the urge to click the link. That being said, you guys helped answer a BUNCH of questions I had about the control surfaces and the radio set up. Beautiful sunset flight, awesome camera work and content as always! Thanks, y'all!!
Hey Brian, I took your advice and bought one of these. Set it up the same way you described in the video and it flies GREAT! Thank you for the guidance!
Very cool, thank you guys. It took me a few years before I picked up a UMX plane. I thought they were just to toy like. I was so wrong, they are great. If you have a small area to fly, give them a try.
Finally got to fly mine yesterday and today. I need more batteries! Mine was setup with the same issues as you had. Slight right rudder deflection and needing nose down trim. I did a mechanical rudder adjustment and moved the elevator one hole in and will try that maybe tomorrow. Not much elevator throw out of the box. Much better flying airplane than the Sport Cub 500. The plane glides forever. Have to adjust my base to final pattern accordingly to plan touchdown point. I like it!!! Thanks again. R
Hey Brian and Miss Camera Crew. I very much appreciate what you guys do! If I'm interested in the plane I'll watch your guys video two or three times and when I buy the plane I watch it all the way through before a bind! I appreciate what you do brother man. I'm getting back into it after 10 years and never becoming more than barely intermediate.... replaced the DX6i with an NX8 and having a lot of fun. Thanks again
Flies exactly like the timber evolution 1.5. Handles inverted the exact same, same touch of forward pressure. Great flying plane. One of those planes where you can have some fun with and land anywhere
I believe it's coming, but I can't say for sure. Even if I'm not supposed to say, I wouldn't encourage you to wait. So much fun to be had in the mean time!!! Timber bit.ly/3cEjplB NX8 bit.ly/3mbVuNB If you go with the NXS, you will be super limited...there's supposed to be some profile adjustments, but they'll be made by the guys at horizon...so we won't be able to adjust stuff (that I KNOW of)...so if you bite the bullet now and get the NX8, you can skip a lot of RTF transmitters along your progression...but to all their own ;)
brian youre legit my go to guy when it comes to new flyers and even given me the confidence to get my new floaters in the air! still freaked out to send my arrows marlin being it has no safe....yet
@@BrianPhillipsRC on the other end of the spectrum i have one of my 2 delta rays stuck about 50 foot in an old oak tree. insane weather yesterday in iowa gave me the idea throw one at the 70mph gusts. looks unhurt either way that was the fastest ive seen the delta go lol worth it if theres a way to contact you i am having a power issue with my timber x if you could assist!
Thank you for understanding my concern, but I get if you want to support the LHS too... It's just getting tough for me to keep up with so many well meaning people with questions.
Great flying as always. This is a great plane! I got one and it is a blast to fly. This lil plane got me thru the lock-down with the fields all closed.
The Turbo Timber is the BEST UMX out there by far. OK, they just re-released the Pitts, but still, this is the most incredible and best flying UMX there is, with beautiful lights too. This is the "put in your car and fly on a trip" Horizon Hobby plane!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I am sure many people will be happy. Those poor UMX fans went nearly crazy having to wait for the little Pitts so long (not the fault of Horizon Hobby but the current global situation). We are certainly curious and are looking forward to being surprised... ;)
I just purchased that plane something I can fly out of my front yard, it’s been windy I can’t fly my Sport Cub S because of the wind. You guys gave me a lot of good pointers thanks. “Great Video” keep up the good work. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Awesome! Glad you're enjoying this wonderful plane! When are you getting the Draco ;) - Do it, you KNOW you want one!!! Draco 2.0m bit.ly/3ttx3ix Just poking the bear a little, can you blame me??? You would love it William - best BNF plane I've ever had, and I've had a LOT
New to modern transmitters etc & safe + AS3X i had difficulty in getting my head around, being of a certain age. 50 plus years on 35mhs in the UK, changing over to 2.4 was & still is a challenge. So a big thanks to your videos on the Turbo timber 1.5, night timber & AHBU sts. Resulting in me purchasing same, thank you again
Very glad to help you get up to speed in the new programmable radio world. With many years of past experience, I know you're a wealth of knowledge, but still a lot to learn with all this new technology. You'll be able to apply the principles of flight to your new, more complex radio systems, to have an amazing experience!!! You will be amazed at the way your planes fly with these added controls at your discretion.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for your kind words etc. Have flown the night timber & am enjoying it so far, have it set up to safe but flying on AS3X and it's hairy at times for a 76 year young. Have yet to unbox my Turbo Timber or HABU jet. After studying how you set up your planes on your DX18 I have hopefully programed my DX9 for the HABU. Keep your videos coming as I am learning a lot over hear in Ireland
Truly appreciate the in depth review and especially set up Brian. I’ve been out of the hobby for year and only recently after a few training flights in a real R44, I’d swear these little planes are harder to master!!! Oh and with the amount of planes I’ve ordered through the links, please enjoy the new third story for your house!
I licensed in the R22 and I think the RC planes are much easier to master! I tested really quick and passed, a couple of months . I think running equipment helps. If I could afford to fly the R44 all the time I would! Good luck brother man have fun! ( how are you doing with Auto's? On the 44)
Sweet! Now tell TH-cam - they're the ones that want to propagate our competitors because they make 5-10 minute "sales" videos...don't get me wrong, btw, we try to sell these planes too, but only on their TRUE merit, and when it is warranted in a specific application. We appreciate you Pat, and glad you're here with us!!! Thanks for speaking up for us ;)
Hello Brian and Mrs Megan aka camera crew, great review as always well done. That umx is so cool and awesome. Now im just gonna have to go and get one. Thank you for your video keep flying you guys. Just having fun RC'n with friends and family members.
Mr. Brian, just recieved thru ur link the UMX Turbo Timber. Today, I had the Yellow High wing Champ 3 Channel RTF as my 1st plane to learn. Had Umx, Skip Steward Bi Plane, as well P -47 Umx. Miss those.. Just something about a plane in the box, for travel. I drive a 56 Passenger Tour Bus Interstate,. Partime now,,Nice now to have the Umx Turbo on the road with me. As well as "State of the Art" Electronics,. Amazing . I'm 62 yo. Seen a lot of rc plane changes. Tks for your detailed Reviews. Captain John
Brian we appreciate the radio set up parts of the video you definitely help me out and my flights have been successful because of it. I did however screw up with flaps this is my first flaps plane so I did take off flaps and used elevator and looped her on my roof so I need a new prop and spinner but she still flies, but once I figured that out I've had some successful flights, so thank you guys for all you do for us beginners!
Awesome! Glad you can salvage her, but you'll get it all sorted out ;) P.S. I have what I call my "Stick of Shame" - amzn.to/3Y7v6qr - mine is the three step version, and I loved and use it all the time, when I was new. I'd buy one that goes out 30 feet if I had to do it over again...for $100 or so, you'll pay for it time and time again as you get planes "unstuck". Good luck!
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks Brian keep the awesome videos and tips coming! I'm going for the night timber next, if you have a video or link I'll use it so I can help support you guys!
Great video, especially with the radio set-up info for a newbie like me. I see in your videos you fly in the area from the trees on the right to the clump of trees on the left. Roughly how many yards long is that area? Someone has said I can use a small field surrounded by trees and I wonder how much space I need for the UMX TT (I guess not much) and also a 1.3m Tundra. Thanks
Thanks! We know it's hard to figure out the Radio Setup without some help, so we routinely share this step. As for the width of our property, you're looking at about 300 feet between tree lines, if measured straight...but we get a bit more being we're at an angle. If you have a couple baseball fields, you'll be good to go ;)
I flown two umxs in my backyard it was the P 51d mustang UMX Gentle Annie And the pits umx and is planning on teaching my cousin how to fly but I think I’ll go to a bigger field for him to learn first because I am an experienced pilot with planes
Brian! Excellent video, thank you. Wished I’d seen it yesterday before I ordered, cause I’d of used ur link. Next time. Anyway novice pilot with a collection of heli’s and planes. You really got me wound up and excited for the arrival of my UMX T T! I’ll be watching, thanks Brian . Scott
Just bought mine today! Picked up an NX6 as well. Hope o don’t regret skipping the sport cub. I will be grabbing the sim and practicing on pc first. Excite!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I agree with you… definitely the best ! I’m getting the F-14 tomcat 40 mm EDF jet comes out in august. Can’t wait to see you fly that one as well.
DUDE MY RUDDER WAS WAY OFF AS WELL !!!!!! after I got everything set up perfect like you taught me and verified all was right, I went out for my maiden and immediately noticed the major yaw especially at full throttle it was intensified horribly! I have yet to make rudder corrections/adjustments. I was happy with the maiden flew to packs dealt with everything as it happened then went home happy! on my next flight I will spend time dialing everything in and getting all the control surfaces right!!!
Terrific video Brian! I can't fly mine at all r/n since it pulls hard to the right so I can't even take off. I feel like the thrust angle of the prop is too far right. Might have to get some washers to bring it left some. My rudder is also canted to the right for some reason. I don't understand the installation of the leading wing edges, or why they are needed either. Seems like they wouldn't attach very securely and sit up off the wing. I've very glad you go through the programming, it's super helpful. I did a profile from a template this time since the NX6 has it in the database, but it helps to recheck all those settings, and the manual isn't great about filling in the blanks.
You can mechanically center that rudder, then you'll be way better off. Get that done, then give it a lot of time to speed up and you'll be surprised, you can fly straight as an arrow!
My UMX is all set to go, except for the battery charging. The adapters I ordered are backordered and so are all the 2s chargers that I see on line. Crap! I was really looking forward to flying this plane, but it won't happen without some charged batteries. My rudder was in the same position as yours so I straightened it as you did and changed the elevator by just one hole. Thanks for pointing all that out. Great videos and wonderful camera work as usual.
Waiting on you to get the F-18 to review so I can pull the trigger on it lol The F-16 is a great plane as well. And highly recommend the SU-30. But thanks for what you do Brian and recommend your channel to anyone in the hobby or starting and Happy Fathers Day as well happy flying.
I'm so glad you're helping get the word out ;) As for the F-18...it looks AMAZING. The F-16...humm, maybe I'll be doing that very soon ;) Keep an eye out!
Received my turbo timber and nx6 today along with lipos, charger, and charger bag... and I’m glad I came across your channel. Just getting into the hobby it made me more comfortable with knowing I have your video to help me through the set up process, thank you!
SAFE works without activating the throttle above 25%. When you move it around, flip her on her back, and find the center point, then watch for the ailerons to move from FULL LEFT to FULL RIGHT...this is the way to tell. AS3X will work furiously AFTER you apply 25% throttle.
Just crashed my 2nd UMX Timber - both in safe mode. Was working fine, but middle flap setting seemed to conflict with rudder somehow, because the plane began to porpoise a little and then shot straight into the ground. 4:33 of joy for $150. It’s totaled - prop bent and fuselage crushed. Also - DX6 for sale. Very low use.
This plane is a work horse I have Been flying my TT for exactly a year now not a single scratch or crash treat her like a balsa plane, gets flown for 30 mins 4 batterys straight almost 5 days out of a week Just yesterday my rudder servo went out Which is normal will be replacing Super reliable airplane
I absolutely hate the jst-ph connectors that come with the airplane and Eflite batteries, they also create an amperage/power choke point which reduces performance while over working the battery and causing premature low voltage warnings. I switched to an xt30 connection and noticed an overall power increase, plus it works better for parallel charging numerous batteries at once. Awesome tutorial video and keep up the great work.
Good call, and TOTALLY AGREE! This is why they switched out to the IC2...which sucks that it doesn't work with the XT30, like their big brothers XT60 and XT90...which are just fine with EC3/5 and IC3/5
Mine... instead of going up, went down. Tore the wheels off and the rudder is detached. Gonna glue and try again. Flew it several times before with no problem. Not sure what happened. Easy fix when I have the time.
I didn’t have the addendum in mine and it took me a bit to figure out to do it the other way to set up safe. I bought this and a dx6e and so far it’s been a blast, maybe thinking since I’m loving the hobby so far I should have gotten the DX8E but I’m sure the 6e will take me a long time to grow out of.
If you're loving the hobby, you may want to consider getting the DX8, rather than the DX8e. You may not need to upgrade to the DX9 for a VERY long time. I don't want to discourage you in either, but just mean to suggest $100 more for this will be spread over many, many planes, potentially. The DX8 is very nice. I have a DX18 Gen1 and a DX9 Gen2...I still use my DX18, even though it's older technology. I LOVE IT. I'm a SUPER cheap-skate, and have NEVER regretted buying the DX18...even when I had a slider go bad, and had to replace it (company took care of me on it under warranty, btw). DX8 - bit.ly/2xmsD5f DX8e - bit.ly/34uxoWn Thanks for your consideration. So glad you're getting into it enough to make this investment. ONE MORE ADDICT ;)
I like it. I think if I were to get it, I would fpv it with landing touch and go, trying to be as close to flying full scale as I could: ie flaps for landing, and landing approach pattern. I would even do the radio call like they do in full scale: 'Timber916 on short final'. etc. I would request ATC clearance.
That is why I don't do business with Hobby King or Bang good. I just purchased the UMX Turbo Timber, and am waiting patiently for it's arrival. Thanks for the video. It was helpful.
Great vid again guys! Love the taillight addittion on the origional UMXTimber, I think I found your channel when looking to see if anyone had a better idea than my own design plans for my 1.5M origional Timber.. your right, the UMX looks orange! Also love the airplane nook.. haha ..To share some mutual knowledge w/TH-cam'ers, on those soft/ rough field landings, just like the full scale planes, INTO THE WIND stabilized slow as possible airspeed, hanging on prop power and kiting the wing, flare by power (pitch will immediately stall it) and carry some power briefly "dragging" it as the prop blast helps keep tail down as it touches..flying taildragger ski & float plane models one learns how to use the throttle! The light planes tend to tip in the turf easy, especially if plane hasn't enough Elev.throw... (like, "WARP -15 EXPO" insanity "crazy" mode!) Lol🙃😁😜👍 LOVE THE THREE RASCALS!😸😸😸 We have a cute little mouse @ our airfield, cute till he gets in the mower..the baby rabbits & momma rabbit are a hoot too, they're very relaxed. Probably because I'm defending the airspace! WE should get chickens to eat the ticks, but they'd be chicken strips if a fan hits'em! Thanks again guys!
They're the little wing on the leading edge (the front) of the wing. This helps to LOWER the stall speed (speed where it looses enough lift on the wing to start falling) of the plane, and allows the plane to fly at a steeper AOA (Angle of attack - when the nose points up more than typical). They are included, but you can choose to install them or not. They're super easy to install, but you need some glue. Foam Safe CA (super glue for foam models - you need this if you're a new pilot - 100% guaranteed) Med amzn.to/2E2l29z / Thin amzn.to/2COE6sw Kicker amzn.to/2CQf24D (this makes the CA setup almost immediately - it's like MAGIC!) Mucilage bit.ly/3fdfzQp (this works well to hold foam to other foam, but it's a different method of gluing than CA...I like this to attach BIG parts to other big parts, like wings on a plane that doesn't bolt together) HH Stuff Foam Safe CA bit.ly/30UbDPL (like above, but at horizonhobby.com) Kicker bit.ly/2PRd5Mm (Horizon's offering of the same as above) Foam2Foam bit.ly/30RNnh0 (this is like Mucilage, but you don't have to buy it from Hobbyking - shipping can get OUT OF CONTROL, and many times things are out of stock unexpectedly)
When you go into a turn, you have to use a little rudder and elevator to keep your heading where you want it. If SAFE is on, it's really easy ;) But I don't fly with SAFE hardly ever. Next time you're flying try this, for a sustained RIGHT turn. Roll right, pull back on the elevator stick ,and used a very slight LEFT elevator to keep the nose going where you want. It's a fun challenge when you're first starting to fly. Practice, and get good at it , and you'll love making planes look so real!
I do too watch the whole Brian Phillips video! Maybe not all in one sitting, but I get through them to the end. Love this plane, been wanting one for a little bit. Might have to back-order now, of course with the link in the description. I am curious though, I thought they originally came with a battery?
Long time ago used to be "bind and fly"...now they call it "Bind and fly Basic" which means they don't come with anything :( The EARLIEST UMX planes were BNF, which came with one battery and one charger ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Just clicked "Place Order" so there we go, 3 batteries too. Now after clicking a few more affiliate links, you will almost have a hamburger, well maybe a soda pop on me. :)
Great video! Made me very exciting about the Turbo Timber I just picked up because of your video on ebay Kleinanzeigen for 30€ a minute ago (Broken, faulty electronics, as the owner flew it into a tree). I hope, I will have as much fun with it after building cyclic servos, new esc and differnt rx into it, as you had with it. Keep it up! Greetings from Germany.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks! Now waiting for good weather for the maiden flight. I used this LiHV: Tattu 2s 7.6V 300mAh, four of these servos: HK 5330 (2g each)(Replacement for XK K 110 servos) and a 6A ESC. For the Flap, i used one of the original servos from the XK K 130 (4g+). Weight with battery is just below 123g. Unfortunately some things took a bit of time to get delivered to me and the foam was badly damaged in some areas, but now i am super excited to finally fly it :) Greetings! Edit: It is indeed a very nice plane! It flies amazing, even without AS3X
Just on a side note: I can’t use the affiliate links, since I buy in the EU shop and not the US one where the links lead. I don’t know if you have many non US watchers, but adding links to non US shops as well might be helpful.
Reference to the rudder I have the same position that yours was in and this is a model straight out the box, have not seen any problems with it after watching other flyers on TH-cam, yours flew great so must be part ot the factory set up.
Beautiful Lil Sunset, Nice Lil Plane Too! LOL PS YES, The Original Has 2-Forwards Facing Lights....Horizon Needed That 2-Cents More Than We Need Them 2-LEDs!?
I thought I remember them, and very disappointed that this plane, while it's awesome, doesn't have the forward facing LED's. I prefer wing mounted landing lights anyway...
You make great videos. I use the same radio also. I just went out and bought the same exact plane and spent almost an hour adjusting everything 😂😂 and I also found out that you can use the styrofoam that holds the top of the plane in the box as the perfect plane stand. It works both upside down and right side up👍also the assembled floats fit inside the same box in the corner

I saw a couple other requests about this but maybe missed your answer. What have you found about better battery options for this? I see the link to the 300mah battery in the description. Is that what you recommend?
The link I offered is good, but there's a few others out there. Right now, I'm just running the 280mAh Eflite ones. I think you could get bigger packs, since this plane had plenty of room and power.
I have watched this video several times now, not being able to fly myself at this time because of some eye problems. Because of your electronics ability, can these batteries be connected in parallel and Velcro them together, to give you the same power but not over heating them so much? Just a thought. I have three of these standing by in boxes until I can fly. I really like your videos.
Thanks Brian for your quick response, yes it not the old UMX its the Turbo Timber looks exactly like yours with the turbo manual inside etc....I wrote to Horizon as well.....get it at the local hobby shop in Toronto Canada...strange thought.....can you send me a picture of the motor of your turbo Timber please
I can't send a picture. As for wrong motor, have you considered asking Horizon if they can "fix" it to your liking, if it's of concern to you? They're typically pretty responsive to things of this nature. However, it would be wise to ask the hobby shop, since you bought it there, and gave them their profit, but didn't follow our links. Even thought I want to help you out, you didn't buy it from our links, and we have zero control or responsibility for what happened, so maybe it would make better sense to ask your hobby shop. If you want to support them, that's totally cool, but please don't give them money, and then bring your problems here. This is a huge pet peeve of mine...don't mean to pick on you, but this happens all the time. People buy from some other source, cut us out of the transaction (which funds our channel) and then expect us to fix their problems. Can you understand why that would be frustrating to us?
G'Day Brian and camera crew, I really want to get into RC planes but am not sure which one is suitable for a complete beginner like me. Is this one suitable or is there a better one that you can recommend?
Brian, does this UMX handle the wind any better than the Sport Cub? I was thinking of picking up the UMX Turbo Timber to fly at a local park near my house when the winds are a bit too much for the Sport Cub. I do have the Carbon Cub for flying at the club field but wanted something smaller for near the house. Thank you.
I just got my UMX Turbo Timber properly programmed thanks to you! I didn't know I had to engage the throttle first to get to work. Victory! Thanks again! I will be back!
Brian... I got the Turbo Timber and couldn’t be happier. Thanks for all the tips, especially carving the foam for a battery housing. When it comes time to switch out the propeller, how the heck do you remove the nose cone? Just pull it off gently? Thanks! AP
Glad you enjoyed the tips. As for the cone, yep, horrifically, you will need to pry it off, and you will be my hero if you can do it without damage... They sell the over-priced, nose cones for a ridiculous price, if you want to buy some ;) bit.ly/3fIifWj
You and your wife (camera crew) work well together. Whenever I want a detail explanation on how to setup my plane I switch to your channel. Keep it up.
Awesome, thank you! We appreciate you stopping by! Thank YOU Anis!
Thanks for the video. I had the same issue getting SAFE to work. Keep the setup portion of the videos. Very helpful!
I just set mine up. The SAFE didn't work at first, but then the second time it did work just like yours. Odd, but ready to go fly her. Thanks for doing these BTW. Very helpful, even for a semi-experienced pilot like myself. Keep up the great work.
Awesome! Glad you got it setup!
Brian Philips I can't stress enough how great full I am I found this! you are my hero I'm about to binge watch some of your content and see what else I might find helpful! hope you have an awesome day and stay healthy good Sir!
Thanks, and welcome ;) We do have tons of content for you!!!
Thanks!
I'm so glad I could help you back into the addiction - Surprised you were gone for so long...you must have had a GREAT support group ;)
RC Aircraft has come so far in the last 15 years...it was unrecognizable when I got into it about 5.5 years ago...
Today I graduated from my rtf Sport Cub S2 to my bnf UMX Turbo Timber with a NX6 radio. This video sure made it easier. Man, the flaps sure make the landings softer! Thanks!
Glad it helped! You're gonna be a FLAP-addict now ;) So much more fun, right!??!?!
Thanks for the Vids!!
yes
I always watch your videos over and over again especially when I buy the airplane.
Like this UMX turbo timber.
Your video made me want to buy it
Thanks a lot! I'm glad I could help you make an informed decision! Thank you for buying planes with my links! It helps us to justify the enormous amount of time we spend on this channel ;)
Turbo Timber UMX bit.ly/3fxTDQd
I LOVE my UMX Timber............so fun and great for practicing flying, especially at slower speeds.
Totally agree!
I bought this plane and will say its what I want to take to the park. I have bigger planes, even have jets. There is just no way I will arrive at the park without it. I just LOVE this little thing. It hangs with the big boys in the wind no problem.
Yep - easy does it!
If you think this plane is bad, you should see my Airbus A380 radio setup - it's kinda CRAZY ;)
Good luck Rich!
Hi Brian little mod I done... Pull the right side nose led off, put it through the hole and stick it to the flat front under prop. It looks fantastic in flight, gives you nice bright nose light. I know you love your lights.... Yep me too.
Good tip!
This could be an easy UMX addition for sure. Great flying and beautiful. Thanks for the video.
I LOVE my UMX turbo timer. Low stress fun flyer.
Yep. She'll do what you need, and keeps coming back for more :)
Glad we could help! Hope you'll come back for more ;) The planes are getting more and more complex, and very much more and more cool!!!
I have no intentions on leaving. Enjoying and learning a ton of stuff from your videos……But, there is always a but, isn’t there? After 2 days of trying I still can’t figure out how to set the dual rates. If you weren’t 1500 miles away I would be knocking on your front door with my transmitter in one hand and a 6 pack in the other
Hey, I use also a DX6e with it but I am struggeling to find out if its possible to put as3x and safe on a 3way lever? Do you have any Idea? Thanks
You'll have a few crashes, but you'll get it. It's like riding a bike, but only more scary - LOL ;)
Glad we could help, this is a huge part of what we do here on BrianPhillipsRC - thanks for being her with us!
Hey Brian I ordered my plane using your link . Appreciate all the hard work you and the camera crew are doing for the hobby.
Thank you! We appreciate you coming back again!!!
Awesome!
Your videos are such a help being new to the hobby, Thank you!
Thanks, and glad you're finding some help! Welcome Keith!
Love to attend a workshop in Iowa. I can’t believe I just said that but NO one does what you do. Very detailed.
Thanks!
Just ordered the UMX TT from Horizon and can't wait to fly. Great video, especially for me as a novice the transmitter setup is very helpful. Thanks for your help.
Awesome! Good luck Ralph!
Awesome!
Hey Brian, I took your advice and bought one of these. Set it up the same way you described in the video and it flies GREAT! Thank you for the guidance!
Great to hear! You will LOVE it!!!
Very cool, thank you guys. It took me a few years before I picked up a UMX plane. I thought they were just to toy like. I was so wrong, they are great. If you have a small area to fly, give them a try.
yep, exactly!
It's a GREAT plane, and I Know you'll love it!!!
It's a great analog for the 1.5m!
Yes! RTF with DXE is what is needed!!!!
I believe it's coming, but I can't say for sure. Even if I'm not supposed to say, I wouldn't encourage you to wait. So much fun to be had in the mean time!!!
Timber bit.ly/3cEjplB
NX8 bit.ly/3mbVuNB
If you go with the NXS, you will be super limited...there's supposed to be some profile adjustments, but they'll be made by the guys at horizon...so we won't be able to adjust stuff (that I KNOW of)...so if you bite the bullet now and get the NX8, you can skip a lot of RTF transmitters along your progression...but to all their own ;)
Was gonna buy the turbo anyway so I took your advise and used the links. Thanks for all your effort.
Thanks Neal!
brian youre legit my go to guy when it comes to new flyers and even given me the confidence to get my new floaters in the air! still freaked out to send my arrows marlin being it has no safe....yet
Thank you ;) Don't make any lawn darts yet ;) LOL
@@BrianPhillipsRC on the other end of the spectrum i have one of my 2 delta rays stuck about 50 foot in an old oak tree. insane weather yesterday in iowa gave me the idea throw one at the 70mph gusts. looks unhurt either way that was the fastest ive seen the delta go lol worth it if theres a way to contact you i am having a power issue with my timber x if you could assist!
Thanks for yet another sharp video, sir. I always enjoy the time and effort you and cam crew put in!
Our pleasure! Thanks James!
Thanks Brian, Make sense ...going forward I will use your links only....I have given your links to some of my buddies as well
Thank you for understanding my concern, but I get if you want to support the LHS too... It's just getting tough for me to keep up with so many well meaning people with questions.
Great flying as always. This is a great plane! I got one and it is a blast to fly. This lil plane got me thru the lock-down with the fields all closed.
Nice! Glad you had it in hand!!! This plane is a GREAT small area flyer.
The Turbo Timber is the BEST UMX out there by far. OK, they just re-released the Pitts, but still, this is the most incredible and best flying UMX there is, with beautiful lights too. This is the "put in your car and fly on a trip" Horizon Hobby plane!
More coming soon. I can't say anymore ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I am sure many people will be happy. Those poor UMX fans went nearly crazy having to wait for the little Pitts so long (not the fault of Horizon Hobby but the current global situation). We are certainly curious and are looking forward to being surprised... ;)
Thats exactly what I did! I took it on vacation with me and found a suitable place to fly during down time 😁
I just purchased that plane something I can fly out of my front yard, it’s been windy I can’t fly my Sport Cub S because of the wind.
Draco 2.0m bit.ly/3ttx3ix
Just poking the bear a little, can you blame me??? You would love it William - best BNF plane I've ever had, and I've had a LOT
@@BrianPhillipsRC it would have to be a little bigger because my wife would kick me out and I have to live in it.😂

Thank you for your work/videos. I used your link for an NX8 and will use your links for my purchases this year.
LOL - Nice, and thanks Justin ;) Keep flying!!!
I licensed in the R22 and I think the RC planes are much easier to master! I tested really quick and passed, a couple of months . I think running equipment helps. If I could afford to fly the R44 all the time I would! Good luck brother man have fun! ( how are you doing with Auto's? On the 44)
Keep putting all your information in your videos I like it!!!
Thanks for speaking up for us ;)
Love you detailed videos. worth every minute watching. Thumbs up for the camera Lady, Great job.
Thanks Tony!
Hello Brian and Mrs Megan aka camera crew, great review as always well done. That umx is so cool and awesome. Now im just gonna have to go and get one. Thank you for your video keep flying you guys. Just having fun RC'n with friends and family members.
Our pleasure! Please do! It's great! I wanted to film in the creek, but we'll have to wait for perfect conditions for that.
Mr. Brian, just recieved thru ur link the UMX Turbo Timber. Today,
I had the Yellow High wing Champ 3 Channel RTF as my 1st plane to learn.
AWESOME! So you can take the little guy out and fly it at rest stops ;) SWEEEET!
Awesome! Glad you can salvage her, but you'll get it all sorted out ;)
Great video. I just picked up the same plane last week and had that exact issue with rudder position out of the box.
I've heard it's a popular issue to have, fortunately it's pretty easy to correct. Maybe it's a packaging thing???
Just went out flying at dusk and very cool with the lights. I imagine the Night Timber X is fantastic.
It is a handful, to be honest. It's a fun plane, and very cool, but it's crazy
If you have a couple baseball fields, you'll be good to go ;)
I flown two umxs in my backyard it was the P 51d mustang UMX Gentle Annie
And the pits umx and is planning on teaching my cousin how to fly but I think I’ll go to a bigger field for him to learn first because I am an experienced pilot with planes
Scott
Glad you got one! We're always reviewing planes, so if you're in the market, we'll probably have a video ;)
Just bought mine today! Picked up an NX6 as well. Hope o don’t regret skipping the sport cub. I will be grabbing the sim and practicing on pc first. Excite!
Awesome! Glad you did ;)
That video was great Brian and crew .The plane is amazing 🍻
Glad you enjoyed it - Thank you!
One of my favourite micro planes to fly
This is one of the best UMX'es ever! Would love to see HH bring a few more UMX planes soon.
Glad we could help!!!
Thanks Jack!

Welcome aboard! So much fun ahead for you, and we're here to help you how we can!
After doing the switch 5 times Turn the prop on and hold plane and rev motor up and down two or three times to make sure in safe mode.
SAFE works without activating the throttle above 25%. When you move it around, flip her on her back, and find the center point, then watch for the ailerons to move from FULL LEFT to FULL RIGHT...this is the way to tell. AS3X will work furiously AFTER you apply 25% throttle.
I have been using the Lectron Pro 300mAh batteries. They weigh almost one gram less and usually give a couple of minutes longer flight time.
Lectron Pro 300mah packs are nice!
I had to do the mechanical adjustment on my rudder too, same direction?
Running my battery quite a bit further back, seems to like it.....
Maybe I'll give that a try too - CG might be wrong in the manual???
Me and my buddies each have one we fly them ALL THE TIME at least every day
The plane is a joy to fly! Just as good as the first Timber UMX, but looks even better!!!
Sorry to hear about your crash Scott!!!
get an aluminum prop adapter from eBay if you intend to land in grass. the plastic ones break easily
This is a foam spinner.
This plane is a work horse I have Been flying my TT for exactly a year now not a single scratch or crash treat her like a balsa plane, gets flown for 30 mins 4 batterys straight almost 5 days out of a week
Just yesterday my rudder servo went out
Which is normal will be replacing
Super reliable airplane
Great! Sorry to hear the rudder died ;( Love the Timber - GREAT plane!
Can I use scotch tape for the rudder hinge?
Yes, absolutely - That's EXACTLY what I was going to recommend. BOTH side, and make sure the tape is touching in the gap, so there's no binding.

DX8e - bit.ly/34uxoWn
Thanks for your consideration.
Sounds like fun!
That is why I don't do business with Hobby King or Bang good. I just purchased the UMX Turbo Timber, and am waiting patiently for it's arrival. Thanks for the video. It was helpful.
Thank you Lee!
(like, "WARP -15 EXPO" insanity "crazy" mode!) Lol🙃😁😜👍
LOVE THE THREE RASCALS!😸😸😸
We have a cute little mouse @ our airfield, cute till he gets in the mower..the baby rabbits & momma rabbit are a hoot too, they're very relaxed. Probably because I'm defending the airspace! WE should get chickens to eat the ticks, but they'd be chicken strips if a fan hits'em! Thanks again guys!
Nice! Don't let the mouse near the electronics thought!!!
What ate slats and what do they do? Do they come with the plane?
They're the little wing on the leading edge (the front) of the wing. This helps to LOWER the stall speed (speed where it looses enough lift on the wing to start falling) of the plane, and allows the plane to fly at a steeper AOA (Angle of attack - when the nose points up more than typical).
They are included, but you can choose to install them or not. They're super easy to install, but you need some glue.
Foam Safe CA (super glue for foam models - you need this if you're a new pilot - 100% guaranteed) Med amzn.to/2E2l29z / Thin amzn.to/2COE6sw
Kicker amzn.to/2CQf24D (this makes the CA setup almost immediately - it's like MAGIC!)
Mucilage bit.ly/3fdfzQp (this works well to hold foam to other foam, but it's a different method of gluing than CA...I like this to attach BIG parts to other big parts, like wings on a plane that doesn't bolt together)
HH Stuff
Foam Safe CA bit.ly/30UbDPL (like above, but at horizonhobby.com)
Kicker bit.ly/2PRd5Mm (Horizon's offering of the same as above)
Foam2Foam bit.ly/30RNnh0 (this is like Mucilage, but you don't have to buy it from Hobbyking - shipping can get OUT OF CONTROL, and many times things are out of stock unexpectedly)
How do you turn without losing altitude? Thanks for your videos.
Practice, and get good at it , and you'll love making planes look so real!
it's a chirpy lil screamer... i love mine
Yeah!
Good luck with your repairs ;) Great little plane!!!
Did you ever put some down elevator trim for the flaps?
I'm sure I did, but can't remember. It's been a long time!
Do you recommend for beginners that have flown a rc plane
Sure. This plane is a great option, but you will NEED a transmitter.
Just on a side note: I can’t use the affiliate links, since I buy in the EU shop and not the US one where the links lead.
I don’t know if you have many non US watchers, but adding links to non US shops as well might be helpful.
We have tons, so we have these link...

@@BrianPhillipsRC alright. Will use that when I buy my next horizon plane
Reference to the rudder I have the same position that yours was in and this is a model straight out the box, have not seen any problems with it after watching other flyers on TH-cam, yours flew great so must be part ot the factory set up.
Maybe?
Thanks
Welcome
Beautiful Lil Sunset, Nice Lil Plane Too! LOL PS YES, The Original Has 2-Forwards Facing Lights....Horizon Needed That 2-Cents More Than We Need Them 2-LEDs!?
I thought I remember them, and very disappointed that this plane, while it's awesome, doesn't have the forward facing LED's. I prefer wing mounted landing lights anyway...
@@BrianPhillipsRC This one has the same LEDs, they're just more buried in the cowling
Nice 👍🏽 I’ll be picking one up tomorrow, can’t wait 🤪😳🥳
Good luck Dev Os!!!
Very cool! Nice tip for the plane stand!!!
hello, i have watched a lot of videos of you. you know your way around very well. i'm a beginner and i want to buy a plane too. will fly for the first time. which model would you recommend to me? should be stable and easy to fly. up to 1 m. have no remote control. I am looking forward to your answer.
Here's my standard list of recommendations, note that they are in no particular order...

...which will help you to be able to learn with less crashing.
GREAT video! Thanks!
You're welcome! Glad you stopped in!!!
You CAN, but it's not usually within the capabilities of the planes....they get too heavy to make the CG work out.
Thank you for the help brian👍
Any time!
My standard list...always growing ;)

Brian, does this UMX handle the wind any better than the Sport Cub? I was thinking of picking up the UMX Turbo Timber to fly at a local park near my house when the winds are a bit too much for the Sport Cub. I do have the Carbon Cub for flying at the club field but wanted something smaller for near the house. Thank you.
Absolutely! This plane will meet your requirements perfectly.

THANK YOU! SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks and Welcome!
I just got my UMX Turbo Timber properly programmed thanks to you! I didn't know I had to engage the throttle first to get to work. Victory! Thanks again! I will be back!
Here’s ya a tip on ca glue, keep it in the refrigerator it will last 3 times as long.
I've heard this for years, and USED to do it, but I had it set on me back then....I wonder if you live in a dryer climate???
Great info! Thanks
You're welcome!
They sell the over-priced, nose cones for a ridiculous price, if you want to buy some ;)
