This is reccomended by therapists for kids who cut. The cutting pain relieved the emotional pain but it’s dangerous due to infection or accidental deep cuts. A prana mat is a great alternative for teens and kids who’ve started cutting

As you wake up less point support more pressure. I would say the but should be out the mat. So you can put pressure on the but when waking up. May be direct skin contact is too much. I would use a thick cotton shirt first

I suffer from periodic back pain, and about a month ago I got and started using an acupressure mat. The first time you use it you do think this is crazy. It's too painful. However, if you stick it out it does help. I use it for about 15 minutes at a time now. After about 5 minutes the pain goes away and a warm sensation begins to spread around my back. It actually becomes somewhat pleasurable. After I'm done, my pain is gone and I feel very relaxed. Here's a couple of tips about it. I recommend doing it without a shirt on. It's going to hurt like hell at first but it's more effective. Also, I have found the easiest way to get off of it is to lift your body up and pull the mat out from underneath you.

It makes sense. Think of all of the muscles in your back as a big slab of meat, and when you have a slab of meat that's tough and hard... what do ya do? It takes time to loosen them.

I fell in love with my mat the very first time I tried it. Within a couple of minutes I'd ditched the t-shirt and went full skin. I went a full hour. I felt my muscles almost melt, and almost fell asleep on it. I have fibromyalgia that mostly manifests in back spasms, and find when I'm really bad off, my mat is one of my best tools. I've also had the pillow shut down stubborn migraines. One of the best $20 purchases I've ever made.

Been using one with the pillow for a couple years now. I adore it. The "hurts so good" sensation is very similar to the experience of getting a tattoo. After you adapt to the intensity of it, it's extremely euphoric. Just like when getting a tattoo, i tend to become groggy after a few minutes. It's really quite wonderful and I'll never go without it!

Can't live without it. On some instances I've fallen asleep and spent a whole night on one of those. The worse the pain in the body, the less the pain from the mat, is my experience. When my lower back acts up, making it hard to get up out of bed or a chair, it will suffice with 30 sec or so to turn the pain off. Really helpful and useful.

I first discovered this mat when I was at a day spa facility. You can imagine a nice, quiet, tranquil place. Much like in this video, you can imagine me trying not to swear and moan and groan in agony from this damn mat!
Call me crazy, but I actually liked the sensations that it bought to my body after I stepped off. It peaked my curiosity, so I bought one for my home.
Fast forward a couple months, I was really struggling with plantar fasciitis from being on my feet all day at work in the wrong shoes. I had booked in to see a podiatrist in a few weeks time, so I started to use the mat in the mean time. It was so painful for my feet that I had tears rolling down my face in agony! But after a few minutes the pressure release felt SO good.
When I finally had the podiatrist appointment, the podiatrist checked the usual pressure points a few times over my feet whilst asking if I felt any pain at all. I felt a bit silly, as I said ‘no it actually feels fine’ every time.
I told her about the acupressure mat that I had been using and how painful it was initially, but how wonderful my feet felt after using it. She basically said to me, “well I think that mat has done the job for me and helped you get rid of your plantar fasciitis pain.” She never heard of the acupressure mat before but was quite surprised by the results it had produced for me.
Warning: if you have plantar fasciitis, IT SUCKS. Take it slooooowww when stepping on the mat and lean against something, or do it sitting down to take the weight off initially. I’ll never forget the pain when I first stepped on the mat. It’s seared into my brain as a core memory. But now when I step on the mat, I think back to those days and notice a MASSIVE difference in what it has done for my feet and I can now bear my whole body weight on a single foot at a time.

My first session was 25 minutes. It was incredible. I modified the pillow by taking the foam out and inserting a microbead pillow and that was awesome. It molds to the shape of your head. If you put it long ways you can go from your neck to the top of the head.

I've had dozens of normal acupuncture sessions, with actual needles. This is a bit different, cause this mat doesn't give you that paralising feeling in your muscles, if you put a tension to them, like moving your arm while having needles in it.
This mat really helps to relax. So much, that I have to set an alarm to wake up - my longest nap was exactly 1h 32min 😅 I use it 2-3 times a week.

@@mattg7977 Yes. As the pain from pokey spikes digging into my skin subsides, I feel sort of a weird pulsing throbbing through my back in rhythm with my heartbeat. I try to take deep belly breaths and fully relax.
Remember your vagus nerve affects your heart rhythm and it is also affected with anxiety. And laying on the mat can activate your parasympathetic nervous system which is what you want!
I hope this helps! Anxiety is so challenging. Over the last year I have built an arsenal of tools to help with my anxiety and my anxiety is doing sooo much better.
      The acupressure mat
      Deep breathing exercises
Ending my showers with cold water
      EXERCISE!!!
      Going for walks
      Reading/lessening electronics
      Binaural beats
      Weighted blanket
Prayer!!! (You could also meditate if prayer isn't your thing, but I have to say my relationship with Jesus helped me sooo much through this nightmare)
      Journaling
      B vitamins and Magnesium
Some people benefit from things like Ashwaganda and GABA. Unfortunately, these made my anxiety much much worse. But from my research that is extremely uncommon. I'm just a freak 😂
And once my anxiety overall started improving with the above, I began using exposure therapy to build up my tolerance to anxiety triggers. I'm working on one or two anxiety triggers at a time. But for me it was better to work on lowering my overall anxiety before attempting exposure therapy.
      I hope this helps you!

Instructions for this mat as a beginner is to begin using a long sleeve tee shirt, and socks if you are going to stand on it. There are 3 levels of mat, start with the beginners one. How to get off the mat? Roll to one side.
I like my mat, but I did introduce it slowly to my body and had short sessions…as for standing on it, I started with socks and sat on a chair and put my feet on the mat increasing the pressure every time until I was able to stand on it, but I prefer not to.

I get the muscle fascia thing as that is what foam rolling is for. absolutely excruciating pain the first months were of doing that.
Not sold on the flow of chi - but acupressure/micro massage/ relaxing muscles I'm comfortable with.
I'm moving more towards the idea that a lot of the things we do - cold exposure, sauna, exercise, foam rolling and this - are all forms of exposing ourselves to discomfort and having the mental resilience to put ourselves through it. And it is that process that leads to a lot of the benefits we experience.
I may see if I can pick myself up one of these.

In fact I used to fall asleep while on it. Today I decided to try it on the floor, assuming the experience would be different as there was no soft cushioning underneath to even out and probably reducing the pressure. To my surprise it felt no different. I had to check the mirror afterwards to see if there where any marking and redness :-) ..there was. 10 minutes flew by and I will continue using it for a while as I am a big fan of circulation. On to feet next.... I guess I will be eating my words pretty quickly :-D

I tried my friends BackLaxx mat last week and I’m quite exited to test it tomorrow when it’s delivered. I always had a lot of stress and never learned how to relax. Maybe it’s a new way to do something for my body.
I tested it just once and watched a lot of reviews… bam! Bought it.
I hope it helps me. 🎉

A ballet dancer turned me on to acupuncture mat. It helps immensely. After about 20 minutes, relaxation and you can feel your circulation increasing, DONT be surprised if you get sinus drainage from the pillow....lymphatic draining. Helps facia that gets knotted up, arthritis in lower back. My 83 year old mother uses hers as well.

Had mine for a while and find lying on it really helps with a lot of soreness in the back muscles. I think because the pressure 'forces' me to relax. Never been brave enough to stand on it for more than a minute though, let alone fall asleep on it!

I use the mat mainly after a yoga session to relax and for my knees if feeling painful after a run or bike ride etc. To be honest because my knees have been ok recently I have forgotten to use it for a while. Will get back on it today

Back when Jan 6th rolled around here in the states. I needed a redirect with my mind. I knew right then I needed to lay on these here spikes. It was the ticket I needed to destress from bullshit in order to quite my mind and ease into relaxation. I would recommend this and try your feet while sitting if it's your first time or wear a sweater for your back. It's easier then taking a cold shower for 15 sec. This forces you to focus on your breathing. Take care and thx for sharing!

I have just bought a similar mat. Whilst I'm not convinced by acupuncture or chi, I do think your points make sense. The pain may well stimulate endorphins and blood flow. Giving time to yourself to relax is also likely a benefit. The focus on body sensations and breathing are both common meditative techniques. Given how sensitive I am to bits in my bed - sock lint, crumbs, sand, etc. - I was surprised at how easily I fall asleep on this thing.

I don't believe in the whole chi thing, either. But I do think it helps by calming down our nervous system. I think what Eastern practitioners refer to as chi is really our nerves. And that's why acupuncture even has solid studies that show its effectiveness.

@abdul-hakeemhussain2551 the mat alongside the correct exercises prescribed by my deep tissue therapist as cured my pain. By the end of a day I used to be stiff as a board and I used to move like a robot, I'd lie on the mat for maybe 30 - 60mins and I'd loosen right up, also because it's painful I think my nervous system has calmed down.

@@wiffer22222 First of all thank you for taking time out of your day to reply to me. From one chronic pain warrior to another, I am proud of you that you have reached a stage in your life where you are pain free, wishing you the best health! Reading the comments I felt unsure about the acupuncture mat because I’ve been sold on so many different products & services in the past 2 years that are supposedly expected to help “get rid of the pain” but haven’t so I’ve always been skeptical since. You don’t mind me asking but how long did your recovery phase take before you reached a point in becoming pain free & do you still get little nags, aches & pains here & there or has your pain completely been eliminated? I know it’s different for each person but I’m just looking for some honest hope
