Dave thank you for the update. New butterfly and pollinator gardener here in N. IL. and had a good year with the butterflies but hope to do better in 2023.
Mark, you made my DAY!. I am excited for the success you will have in your garden. I lived in northern IL from 2005-2009. I wasn't gardening then, but I love it now!
That's a good butterfly garden overview. Golden Rod really attracts pollinators of all kinds late in the summer, but it gets a bad rap as far as allergies. It's really Rag Weed that comes out about the same time that causes hay fever. My nearby 62-year-old Nature Center removed their several huge Butterfly Bushes because they've been labeled invasive in many areas.
Thanks for the information. I have mixed feelings on the things being labeled invasive. Butterfly Bush attracts butterflies, which is ultimately my goal.
@@davethebutterflyguy9841 Yes, Butterfly Bush really attracts the butterflies and many other pollinators as I saw at the Nature Center before they removed the groups of mature spreading bushes, and also in my own yard on a much smaller level. Mine didn't come up this year. They may be easier to grow and more invasive in the warmer climes.
Love your garden….if you have never tried TORCH TITHONIA (Mexican Sunflower)? It’s an annual, but it is a butterfly favorite. I promise you if you grow it once it will be your one of your favorite things to plant.
Thanks for the tip! I have heliopsis but to no Torch Tithonia. I need to find that for next Spring! I have tried other sunflowers, but the deer seem to love them.
I currently have 2 monarch catapillers , one has crystalis and the other one is getting ready to J hook also. My first experience with raising them. Such a fun thing. My 5 year old granddaughter got to see it j hook and then transform into a crystalis...how ever you spell it...lol.. thanks for the video. I went today and bought more milkweed and goldenrod...becoming dedicated to this..
Tina, I love your enthusiasm for helping out the Monarch. I love spending my time creating habitat for butterflies. It seems like a valuable past time!
