Always good to see you and your garden Dave and what's going on where you live. We had a few good days here in N.Y with cool nights in the low 50s and some 70s during the day. But now were gonna get 4 days starting Monday with 90 degree weather!! I dont know where all the butterflies are this year. I only raised and released 2 black Swallowtails. 7 Monarchs are in there crysalis stage. But last year i had way more than that. Its only the beginning of September so we'll see. My fennel is tall a wild like yours and i didnt plant any this year. It all reseeded from last year all over my garden. Swamp and Butterfly Milkweed did the same thing. I love it when it does that! And your absolutely right the zinnias are always a big attraction for butterflies and so beautiful!

Nora great to hear about your garden. It seems we have similar plants. Yes, a harsh hot summer of 90 degree weather with minimal rain. These conditions are not good for butterflies. I hope for a milder 2024. Thanks for watching!

I've found that since I've started gardening natives for the insects and birds, I've slowly just been chipping away at my lawn and replacing with prairie species and others.
Feel like I'll eventually end up with no non-native turf grasses lol

You are on the right path! I also have chipped away at the amount of turf grass I have. However, I still need to continue to add prairie species and reduce the amount of lawn I mow! Thanks for reminding me of the importance of this!

What kind of goldenrod is that? I’m looking for one that size. Love your garden.

I don't know much about goldenrod. These plants have all been in my back area since I moved in 14 years ago. I appreciate you commenting you love my garden, Thank you!

Shared on my TH-cam and my Scripps Ranch Villages Butterfly Park Page on Google. :) Great tips on Host Plants. We are working still on the Rehab of the Park so you gave me some GREAT ideas for more HOST Plants. Thank you again! ❤

Have you ever tried growing native thistles? They have them at Prairie Moon Nursery, supposed to be great for butterflies. Or maybe great angelica for your swallowtails? I tried to get an angelica native to my area to grow but it sadly died :( . Your goldenrod is spectacular, wow!

I haven't ever planted native thistle. My land behind my garden has a lot of thistle, not sure what type and bull thistle. It does attract some butterflies, but I have tried to weed it back as it is so invasive. I have not been a big fan of thistle. Maybe I need to reconsider?

@@davethebutterflyguy9841 I don't think I'm able to share a link but the Xerces Society has a free download publication on native thistles, I would check it out, you might have some on your property somewhere! Some of them look pretty cool and they're not invasive like bull thistle or Canada thistle. I'm experimenting with one species I was able to get to see if I can make the planting look ornamental.
