When I was in the Army Signal School for field radio repair school, the mnemonic we learned for E over IR is ELI the ICEMAN drinks RIE. It also applies to, in a circuit, Voltage (E) leads Current (I) through an Inductor (L). The E comes before the I. Through a Capacitor (C) Current (I) leads Voltage (E). The I comes before the E. And I THINK I remember that through a Resistor (R) Current (I) and Voltage (E) are in phase. It was 1984 when I was in Radio Repair school for the Army so 40 years ago, but I'm pretty sure that's what the RIE part is. Ohm's law in a nutshell. ELI the ICEman drinks RIE.
