Look at buddipole for how coils are used. Love mine, preset your coil shorts and just change the wire to tune.

Buddipole (www.buddipole.com/) is a portable HF antenna solution. They have vertical and Horizontally polarized HF antennas. To keep their size down they use inductive loading. This makes their SWR bandwidth much narrower than a full size dipole. But they work.
