  • The soap opera Search for Tomorrow began its run on CBS on September 3, 1951, and concluded on NBC, 35 years later, on December 26, 1986. In this 1953 episode, Irene Barron is concerned Jim Wilcox has taken her for $100,000. Can it be true? Airdate April 3 1953. Stars Bess Johnson, Les Damon, and Earl Hammond. Commercials for Joy and Spic and Span, with happy housewives dutifully cleaning house. Transferred from 16mm b-w kinescope film. This is a re-do of an upload we did of this title that had some contrast issues, now corrected.

I was 12 in 1984 when I first started watching a daytime soap....but it was with the help of a VCR that we had just gotten. My cousin wanted me to record them for her while we were at school... I had no interest in watching I just wanted to operate the VCR... Well people, lemme tell ya, within 1 week I was straight up hooked and recorded them for another 11 or so years without fail...and watched them around 9/10 pm before bed every night... Even during the summer when at home, I recorded them and never watched them as they were being broadcast because I couldn't deal with the commercials.... and I found watching them at night in my dark room made them better... anyway...looking back at watching these in the 1950s through the 1970s I honestly don't think I could have dealt with a network schedule. Literally having to plan things around not missing a soap... that would have driven me crazy

Part of the CBS Noon-1pm Eastern Daytime Hour that consisted of; Bride and Groom, Love of Life, Search for Tomorrow and The Guiding Light. In Chicago, it was seen on WGN-TV 9 when they shared the CBS Affiliation with WBKB Channel 4.

Very good video and audio quality for a kinescope from the 1950s!

Many thanks! That's the benefit of a true 16mm master transfer.

I don't know what was done for the ad, but when smoking was more common and particulate air pollution worse, walls did tend to get a darkening deposit on them that was so gradual, it'd hardly be noticeable until you cleaned it.
