There’s something nostalgic about seeing Nancy Karr on that phone in the opening theme. And this music is perfect for this soap. Jazzy. Uptempo. Yet haunting and intriguing. I miss this show. 😢
I remember as a child, after school, I would run to the TV just to catch the Edge of Night ending theme song always hoping it would keep going. You've made the 6 year old in me very happy. :)
I agree totally! A great show! I was a bit older. Always so unpredictable! Great actors! I could nane so many. I just found this and I was got sad. I can not describe it! I use to watch it with me deceased Mother. She watched some others but this is the only one I watched. I have watched a couple of others since then but none of them has been as compelling and enjoyable as the Edge of Night! I loved it! I miss it! I wish it would come back! I would definitely watch it!
Glad I'm not the only one. But here's a tidbit for you. Did you know that the two stars on that show did a movie and a tv show? One played judge smails' wife on caddyshack in the 80s and one was on the TV show "full house" and she played Jesse's wife.
The Edge of Night played on more artistic levels than probably any other soaps of its time. It was unique among daytime soap operas in that it focused on crime, rather than domestic and romantic matters. The police, district attorneys, and medical examiners of fictional Monticello, USA, dealt with a steady onslaught of gangsters, drug dealers, blackmailers, cultists, international spies, corrupt politicians, psychopaths, and murderous debutantes, while at the same time coping with more usual soap opera problems like courtships, marriage, divorce, child custody battles, and amnesia. The show's particular focus on crime was recognized in 1980, when, in honor of its 25 years on the air, The Edge of Night was given a Special Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America. The Edge of Night had more prominent male characters than most soap operas, and included genuine humor in its scripts to balance the heaviness of the storylines.
But l liked back when l was li'l boy in early-1970s while CBS-TV Network originally aired that pgrm. pre-orchestrated piano 🎹 chord lead-ins where after piano bars you'd usually hear eerie organ strains
I remember watching this as a child in the 70s until it went off in 1984. The theme is my absolute favorite soap theme!!! And the show itself...writers and producers today should study this show and take notes on how to make great DRAMA!!!
The first storyline that had me hooked at like nine years of age, was Draper Scott and his amnesia. It took me awhile to understand that Emily, knew damned well that Draper was not her husband. Between that story, Nancy Karr’s abduction and the Jefferson Brown saga, I was a fan for life.
Yes, I agree and I love it. When I heard it again yesterday it gave me chills. I can not describe the feeling. It was a mixture of sadness and happiness all together. Thanks for all the memories!!
I agree totally! I cried when it went off the air. I am in my sixties. I wish they would bring it back! When I saw these videos yesterday it brought back so many memories. I used to watch it with my Mother and we love this show. She watched many others but this is the only one I watched. Since then I've tried to watch a few but have not enjoyed any of them like I did the Edge of Night! A unique show!
Thanks for posting this!! I followed 'Edge' in the 70's as a kid watching it with my mother. The first theme on CBS in the States scared me. Then 'Edge' in my town was dropped when it moved to another network. When I rediscovered it on an out of town station, by holding a set of rabbit-ears while trying to watch in my brothers room, I fell in love with this theme!
I also watch with my mother! She is deceased now! When I saw this it brought back so many memories and made me sad. We love the soap! It was the only soap opera that I watched. She watched a couple of others since then I have tried to watch a couple but they're been unlike the Edge of Night and great soap! I wish they would bring it back! I liked it also being only 30 minutes although I know some people and wanted to have been an hour.
EON was probably the only soap opera with a primarily male audience. Also, Lois Kibbee, who played Geraldine Saxon, is probably better known as Mrs. Smails in Caddyshack.
Man what memories and the theme songs were awesome i could listen to it all day. I'm living in Germany now and i got my girlfriend to watch it with me on TH-cam we only did 82 up to the last episode of course Raven was her favorite.
As The World Turns & The Edge Of Night both debuted on Mon Apr 2, 1956. Both on CBS. And both were a half hour long. Most of the soaps during this era were 15-minutes long.
I agree, miss it so much, would be nice if they did like the Brady Bunch movies, got a cast that matched closely the original cast and had a close remake of the Warmly theme or this one!
My mom and grandmother watched this show when I was in elementary school and Jr. High School. I would always get home when these credits were playing and soon after ABC News 7 in Los Angeles would come on.
Julie Stpucinski I had a friend play a trick on me back in the 90s. She said 'Edge' was returning, I asked if it were going to be a reboot and she said yes, all new! She told me years after, she was kidding! I was hoping! I still rank 'Edge' as my no.1!!
I think this is one show they should definitely bring back. Maybe if enough people wanted it, it could happen. Get a top notch mystery writer and at least a few of the original cast along with new characters, I think it would be a great show again.

During the school year, I made it home in time to watch the Afterschool Special and Edge of Night. The music spooked me and it was a bit depressing that as the show went on, it would get dark outside. I always thought the title was perfect for that reason. Now, the tune is still haunting, but it reminds me of being in a nice warm house in the winter. Good times.
I watched AMC and EON. There will never be another show like EON. Also, great great music, loved it! I saw this for the first time yesterday and it brought back so many memories. I cried! it was a unique feeling! Part of me was happy and part of me was sad. I just can't describe it!

I fully agree!! I have always wanted Edge of Night to be rebooted! They have now done....MacGyver, Hawaii 50, next year a reboot of Lost In Space, time to do the same for the classic soaps!
Yes. However in order to do it, they must get the Rights from Proctor & Gamble who "owned" The Soaps back in the day. In The UK ITV gave Time-Life The Rights to Coronation Street Britian's Longest Running Soap Opera where they do spotlights on various Characters.
I sometimes forget how dramatic The Opening Sequences were on These Shows. The UK Shows aren't like that but they are also fun to watch. Therefore making it a soap opera men could watch.
@@steveprestegard5151 It's true. At its peak in the '60s, it had a larger male audience than female.
It was the original Law & Order, only the crime was investigated and tried over weeks and months instead of 44 minutes.
