Living in NYC’s Smallest Box-Apartment…

  • This apartment seems small, but sometimes thats the price that has to be paid if NYC is where you want to live! Would you travel to Manhattan with a suitcase and rent this? Its probably the most affordable place in town, and just to make sure we compare it to a few others nearby.

The last apartment was a real winner. Loved the dining area, the bathroom and the spacious rooms and extra closets! That foyer would do great as a home office and although the kitchen was tiny, it'd be workable if you 1. put a china/silverware cabinet in the main room 2. staged a small coffee/booze cart just to the right of the door into the kitchen itself and 3. used the dining table to do your chopping and prepping, or maybe squeezed a small rolling cart by the window/sink. Getting a custom cutting board to fit over the sink might work too. The rest of the apartment was so roomy and comfortable that the kitchen issues weren't overly important.
That one place with fuses, though! WTH?! I didn't know that was even still legal. Knob and tube, anyone? Crazy...

The four-bedroom seems pretty well set up for a four-person share. Paying $3,300 for a small one-bedroom walkup strikes me as excessive. The $4,500 two-bedroom had a reasonable amount of space although the kitchen was a bit cozy. The slanted bar in the bathroom is for handicapped/elderly assist when using the toilet. Charles' $3,400 one-bedroom was dated and the kitchen was cramped, but the living area and bedroom were quite spacious. It was in an elevator building with laundry. The studio for $2,800 was also reasonably spacious. The last one had lots of room, and it was in a building with a big laundry room and a gym, though $4,300 for one bedroom isn't cheap.

That was good of you, Cash, to bring inside the package you found hanging on the door outside. With the kind of monthly rental being charged (in one instance a $7,750 absurdity for such a small apartment), there should be a manager onsite making rounds during delivery hours to do that for the tenants. I used to be quite tolerant of owners charging high amounts for a place to live in New York City. After all, it's the tenant's choice to pay the high rents. But no more tolerance for greedy landlords. NYC definitely needs effective and protective rent control across the board so that landlords (and in some cases slumlords) can't take advantage of people. It's utterly ridiculous and sickening.

Hi from Riverside California ♥️ it's raining here too 🤗I pay 1,200.00 for a 1 bed room apartment. Bedroom is 18 1/2 ft long & 15 1/2 wide. My closet is 3ft wide & 15 ft long. My living room is a little bigger. My bathroom is a nice medium size, kitchen is nice big size. My rent went up 2 x a year and I'm like HELP! I LIKE MY APARTMENT BUT CANT AFFORD THE COST. MY LORD JESUS CHRIST HAS BEEN HELPING ME.

That last one would be fantastic if the kitchen was a decent size. Why have such a massive living/dining/den space but then have a kitchen smaller than a closet?
