I actually just used some old 1x4 lumber my parents had left over after moving into their new home. It was from a packing crate the movers made. Any pine lumber will work just fine. Just be sure it is wide enough for the pulley bracket bases. I used 2.5" long screws to ensure that they bit deeply into the ceiling joists above the drywall ceiling. And 1.5" for the bracket holes that just engage the lumber. I use spax T star plus, flat head screws for all of my projects. Stocked in any hardware store fastener aisle.
It would work for the height, however the bike would be swinging all over the place if you were wrenching on the bike, it might work for a quick job every now and then, but that's about it
