  • Vintage 1994 Kenmore washer, I completely restored. Washing a blanket, sheets, pillow cases, and a couple of bath towels, the washer could have held more. I also added white vinegar which works great as a cleaner and deodorizer, the finished laundry does not smell like vinegar at all, just fresh and clean. Please like and subscribe. Thanks!

    Just finished fixing up an old Kenmore 70's series belt drive....can't believe I'm watching a washer vid lol. Looks like if these washers aren't rusty they can be fixed, good job :)

    Those old school Kenmore/Whirlpool direct drive washers would wash the hell out of clothes, especially when using the fast agitation.

    I think I had that same washer. Bought it new in I think 1993. Best washer I ever had. Ended up selling it because I moved to an apartment that had a laundry room in the building and no laundry hookups in the individual apartments. Wish I still had it.

      One second shorter it would've been like a Maytag Atlantis Era Maytag Brake.

    An oldie but a goodie. As you know, that Kenmore is made by Whirlpool and it's a direct drive design. Nice rival to a good top loader Speed Queen, especially as those are still belt drive, if I'm not mistaken.
    "Durable" is a good word to describe it. Take care of it and it'll last forever.
    What usually brings these things down is not taking care of them and not being careful with the amount of bleach (rust) and/or detergent you use (excessive internal buildup if you use too much).

      @@MatthewJames-st5wv Thank you! I did a lot of work on this washer. I have been a subscriber of yours for a long time and I really like your washer videos as well. I believe I had my tankless water heater set at 120 for this one but I'm not sure what the warm rinse temp was. I will be making more videos of it in the future and I will check it with my laser thermometer.

      @@BillyLee25 Well we both can enjoy each other's content now :) I am curious what you have done to this washer? Did you replace the tub break?

    • @BillyLee25
      @BillyLee25  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MatthewJames-st5wv We sure can. :) What all did I replace on this washer? Well, I replaced the spin tube which came with a new tub brake. I replaced the spin tub due to it being rusted from the lint filter on the bottom that would trap water. I also replaced the tub support, agitator shaft, neutral drain pack, water pump, all tub seals, snubber pad and all wear pads, tub springs. I also inspected the gears in the transmission, which had little to no wear, and replaced the oil. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things, it was a lot of work. But was it worth it? Absolutely. :) I have also been thinking of making a video showing people what to expect to repair if they decide to buy a vintage direct drive washer, so I may be adding that in the future.

    The best feature in these old washers are the manual control of the water usage. All modern residential washers are under the Obama law of no more than 12 gallons per use.

      @@BillyLee25 I would agree also and it's important for people to see this...BUT the washers we have left that still use water and have traditional agitation like the Maytag commercial MVWP575 ,585 ; Whirlpool WTW4816, Amana NTW4516 to let Whirlpool know these could be improved.... Give the people more options and control over their own laundry.
