Vendetta hating Charlotte to me was pretty surface level. She had many opportunities to seriously destroy Charlotte and didn't. She also spent an entire episode trying to cheer Charlotte up in order to "destroy" her and not wanting to "waste a fiend." I'm pretty sure Vendetta appreciated Charlotte's unconditional acceptance and friendship more than she let on.
It's crazy how this cartoon had such a short run, yet I remember it so much more than other cartoons I watched on Nicktoons that had more episodes/seasons. This show just has such a charming uniqueness to it.
As a Nickelodeon raised kid, I've seen a lot of shows treated just like Making Fiends. Chalkzone was one of my favorites, and another one that was screwed over by Nick that I loved was Robot and Monster. Its always just Spongebob nowadays...its sad

The really sad part is that Nick did this show’s treatment all over again just recently. At their 2021 upfront, they announced a show that eventually became known as Zokie of Planet Ruby, a collaboration with Nelvana about a 10-year-old vlogger named Ruby Studebaker who befriends an alien named Zokie - hilarity, of course, ensues. Cue radio silence for nearly three years until it abruptly dropped on Prime Video two weeks ago, with absolutely zero advance notice, not even a tweet. You could argue that since Nelvana did most of the work, it was their idea to put it on Prime Video and not Nick’s idea, but since Nick’s the one who slapped their name on it, it makes unfortunate sense that they would be the ones to pull a Making Fiends on it. And that sucks, not just for the cast and crew to be so horrifically screwed over, but because based on what I’ve seen, Ruby has the potential to be the Internet’s newest precious baby to protect. i love this video sooo much GODD. as a queer girl that doesn't connect to a lot of female characters in media making friends is like. one of my favorite shows ever solely for vendetta and charlotte's characterization and relationship??? i don't truly care if they are lesbians or not (although i do think its cute) but god they're so entertaining. maybe i also just think this because neither were ever set up with a male character as a love interest but i dunno god i just love it so much. i really wish it went on for longer because i do think it had a lot of potential, although i think the amount we got is also fine with me. woulda been nice if it was spaced out a bit more though, at least. give it some breathing room. i didn't know it seriously only ran for a month! (also unrelated side-note every time the word "toupee" was said my mind immediately went to "purple toupee" by TMBG. my curse)
me and my friends were just talking about this show yesterday!! even with it being so short, i adored this show as the creepy and strange little kid i was. i REALLY liked vendetta, looking back it was probably some sort of crush but i didn’t even consider the possibility of a girl liking another girl as a concept until much later, so i just interpreted the jitters and funny feelings as “i must think she’s really cool” LOL (also had no idea amy worked on south park! it makes sense honestly!)
The love me and my oldest children have for this show!!! Particularly my oldest two because they had the same dynamic as Charlotte and Vendetta when they were little. (The oldest would try to be an evil genius and the younger one would defeat them with cuteness)
The way I gasped when I saw this in my feed! Making Fiends is my roman empire. I got into this show because of how popular it was on DeviantArt among artists I followed. I ended up binging it in 11th grade and I made a song for Chemistry class to the tune of the Making Fiends theme. Still salty about Nick not releasing the last few episodes. And they canned it AFTER A MONTH DESPITE ASKING FOR IT?! What's Nickelodeon's damage!? Definitely would put this show on a list of "Cartoons for Babybats/Little Goths." Also love the tooth earrings.
So, my biggest memory of this show was Vendetta's song in New Best Friend. Specifically the first little bit where she's going down the slide. It's been living rent free in my head for over 15 years now and I'm so glad I finally got answers to which episode it was from. I remember watching it on Nick as a kid and that's what stuck. I forgot how dark it could be tho. I absolutely commend you for all the research you put into this and the rest of your videos. They're absolutely amazing. Loved your theory about Charlotte and Vendetta being sapphic for each other. I support that 100%. Also, side note, I'm thankful I'm not the only one who remembers Ruby Gloom being on Netflix and finding it on there. The full series is now on TH-cam and sometimes I'll have it on as background noise.

I LOVED THIS SHOW! I remember watching it and then seeing shorts during commercial breaks. Even my dad enjoyed it, he thought it was clever and funny. In the same vein, there was a show (I think on Nick too?) called Edgar and Ellen- it was 2 spooky kids getting into mischief. It was also short lived. I feel like these more alternative shows get canned quickly

I like to think that Charlotte's obliviousness is intentional by her in order to take down Vendetta's reign of terror. Slowly driving Vendetta insane by foiling all of her schemes, until one day Vendetta will have had enough and flat out ask Charlotte "How do you do it? Why are you not afraid of me?" And that's when Charlotte will show her true colors. "Teehee, oh Vendetta do you really not understand after all this time?" OR headcannon that the real reason Vendetta hates Charlotte so much is that she reminds her of herself, or the person she used to be. Maybe Vendetta used to be happy and positive like Charlotte, but nobody seemed to like her, maybe she was even bullied. Until one day she found a book called "How to make Fiends" sparking the end of the once popular tourist destination of Clamburg and beginning her new reign of terror, and seeing Charlotte's happy attitude only reminds her of that painful time in her life. I loved this show as a kid.
nickelodeon is notorious for tossing shows to flop on nicktoons, but evidently that didnt stop me! as soon as you showed episodes, i remembered literally every single one! i wish it got a longer run 😢

i have vivid memories of waking up in the dead of night to watch the 4am reruns of making fiends on nicktoons. my dad caught me a few times but it was used as incentive a few times to help me get up early for roadtrips: being able to choose what midnight cartoons to watch. i even had a little journal i tried to turn into a fiend cook book ;0;
i remember watching the webisodes when i was like, less than 8 years old. i was obsessed with it and made a button for school with charlotte singing that pretty kitty song to the giant cat. this show taught me how to spell friends, lmao. it also is one of the reasons i dont want to make an actual cartoon on the network, cause i know my shit would get cancelled one season in and id lose the rights to my own characters

I know this because I was in the fandom from 2009-2012 and I remember every source stating it was only on hiatus-and how more than once there were even false news articles stating the show would make a return in 2011 (which I remember being so excited for, only to be disappointed when I kept checking the tv schedule and it never came up :/) even in 2012 when I messaged Amy directly (through TH-cam’s old messaging system) asking if the show would ever come back that she even didn’t state the show was canceled, just that there were no episodes in production.
My sister and I used to love this show growing up! I had no idea it was so short so we must have rewatched it a lot. This and some of the other shows you mentioned, like Ruby Gloom, reminded me of another show we used to watch called Growing Up Creepy. No idea if you've seen it or not but it seems so up your alley and could make a super cool video! Its basically about a human girl being raised by a family of insects and it falls into a similar category as the previously mentioned shows. The mid 2000s seemed to have a brief era of darker, creepy kid shows that I totally forgot about and could be a whole deep dive on its own. Making Fiends, Ruby Gloom, Growing Up Creepy, Scooby-Doos Mystery Inc., Secret Saturdays and Grossology all have the vibe.

Okay, so i didn't subscribe last video of yours that i watched because, as someone who has kids who are older than you to the point where I'm even a grandma now, I figured that pop culture commentary from a generation so far removed from mine wouldn't often end up tossing up things that related to my own personal timeline on the planet very well, aside from content that my kids watched that I consumed alongside them. You know, back when it wasn't called content or content consumption 😅. Anyway, I hop on TH-cam today and once again the algorithm has recommended one of your videos to me, and surprisingly enough it's about one of my old favorite web cartoons. My long time best friend Stacy, known each other literally more than half hour lives now, she's always been the one who comes in clutch when it comes to recommending and finding great stuff on the internet. Back when Making Fiends was still a Flash based cartoon, she shot me a link to the debut episode, and I was immediately hooked. When we found out that Nickelodeon had picked it up to become one of their new shows, we were stoked - I never followed it over to the nicktoons website, can't remember why now it's been so long ago, but I do remember hearing that it was being developed for TV animation and that was the last that I'd heard. Life being so busy raising a young kid back then, never really had a chance to try to hunt it down when it actually did briefly air, and I don't even think that I heard of it airing - back then, despite the internet existing, news about new media projects wouldn't spread quite as quickly as it does now, and I guess Nickelodeon had it on in such a blink if you miss it sort of fashion, I didn't even really have a chance to catch it while it was still on air. I hadn't thought about this cartoon in years, and I'm really happy that I stumbled across this video of yours - I'm going to have to go and watch those episodes that I never got to catch, now. And this time, I'm also correcting my mistake of not hitting the subscribe button on your channel when I had a chance the last time.

Making fiends is such a nostalgia fever dream! I remember finding the webseries as a tween sometime around 2008-09 and being absolutely crushed that there wasn’t more after the short TV series. It breaks my heart to see how the creator was mistreated, but this show is so fun and funny and deserves to be remembered!

I loved Making Fiends! I watched it online for a long time and used to sing the song "concrete shoes" and the song about cheese all the time. When it started airing on tv i was so excited and then it was just... gone. I had no idea it got cancelled and nickelodeon totally screwed the creator! Thats so messed up, is there any way she can get the rights back? Im glad you made this video, Making Fiends deserves way more attention. I loved it so much when i was young! it's insane to me that i can remember almost every episode i saw of this show in quite vivid detail yet i cannot remember the majority of my time alive as a human being up until i was 13? 14? something doesn't add up with that but doesn't matter. i do distinctly remember watching it on tv and it was one of my favorite shows (i have adhd and was diagnosed at the time but recently found out i probably also have autism) and vendetta was my favorite character. this show is genuinely one of the only things i can remember in such detail and it caused me to light up in pure joy seeing this video.

Making Fiends is one of my favorite shows of all time it’s so underrated and didn’t deserve to be treated so poorly by Nickelodeon like seriously if it was given the chance it could have been the next Invader Zim (another favorite of mine) with its dark tone and creepiness! Vendetta and Charlotte are such awesome characters but the others like Marvin and Mr Milk and Marion are interesting too and if the show were given more of a chance I would have loved for them to be expanded upon more but since it’s not Spongebob they canned it super fast which really sucks

Making Fiends almost reminds me of Invader Zim in multiple ways. Both ran on Nickelodean and both sort of pushed the boundaries of what could be shown on kids TV. And, sadly, they had a short runtime. Now that I think about it. Nickelodean was pretty dark for a kids channel in the 2000s.

It's been literally 20 years since a friend of the family/friend of Amy first introduced me to her websites. I remember when the original animations were being released I was around 8 years old. I would check the websites all the time to see when new episodes were going to come out. The flash menu to navigate the site was so charming. Making Fiends has such special place in my heart and always reminds me of my weird kid roots

I got into this show because of how popular it was on DeviantArt among artists I followed. I ended up binging it in 11th grade and I made a song for Chemistry class to the tune of the Making Fiends theme. Still salty about Nick not releasing the last few episodes. And they canned it AFTER A MONTH DESPITE ASKING FOR IT?! What's Nickelodeon's damage!?
Definitely would put this show on a list of "Cartoons for Babybats/Little Goths." Also love the tooth earrings.

So, my biggest memory of this show was Vendetta's song in New Best Friend. Specifically the first little bit where she's going down the slide. It's been living rent free in my head for over 15 years now and I'm so glad I finally got answers to which episode it was from. I remember watching it on Nick as a kid and that's what stuck. I forgot how dark it could be tho. I absolutely commend you for all the research you put into this and the rest of your videos. They're absolutely amazing. Loved your theory about Charlotte and Vendetta being sapphic for each other. I support that 100%.
Also, side note, I'm thankful I'm not the only one who remembers Ruby Gloom being on Netflix and finding it on there. The full series is now on TH-cam and sometimes I'll have it on as background noise.

I LOVED THIS SHOW! I remember watching it and then seeing shorts during commercial breaks. Even my dad enjoyed it, he thought it was clever and funny. In the same vein, there was a show (I think on Nick too?) called Edgar and Ellen- it was 2 spooky kids getting into mischief. It was also short lived. I feel like these more alternative shows get canned quickly

I like to think that Charlotte's obliviousness is intentional by her in order to take down Vendetta's reign of terror. Slowly driving Vendetta insane by foiling all of her schemes, until one day Vendetta will have had enough and flat out ask Charlotte "How do you do it? Why are you not afraid of me?"
And that's when Charlotte will show her true colors.
"Teehee, oh Vendetta do you really not understand after all this time?"
OR headcannon that the real reason Vendetta hates Charlotte so much is that she reminds her of herself, or the person she used to be. Maybe Vendetta used to be happy and positive like Charlotte, but nobody seemed to like her, maybe she was even bullied. Until one day she found a book called "How to make Fiends" sparking the end of the once popular tourist destination of Clamburg and beginning her new reign of terror, and seeing Charlotte's happy attitude only reminds her of that painful time in her life.

nickelodeon is notorious for tossing shows to flop on nicktoons, but evidently that didnt stop me! as soon as you showed episodes, i remembered literally every single one! i wish it got a longer run 😢

i have vivid memories of waking up in the dead of night to watch the 4am reruns of making fiends on nicktoons. my dad caught me a few times but it was used as incentive a few times to help me get up early for roadtrips: being able to choose what midnight cartoons to watch.
i even had a little journal i tried to turn into a fiend cook book ;0;
i remember watching the webisodes when i was like, less than 8 years old. i was obsessed with it and made a button for school with charlotte singing that pretty kitty song to the giant cat. this show taught me how to spell friends, lmao. it also is one of the reasons i dont want to make an actual cartoon on the network, cause i know my shit would get cancelled one season in and id lose the rights to my own characters
7:57 It wasn’t *immediately* canceled-it was put on indefinite hiatus for a long time before officially being said to be canceled. I know this because I was in the fandom from 2009-2012 and I remember every source stating it was only on hiatus-and how more than once there were even false news articles stating the show would make a return in 2011 (which I remember being so excited for, only to be disappointed when I kept checking the tv schedule and it never came up :/) even in 2012 when I messaged Amy directly (through TH-cam’s old messaging system) asking if the show would ever come back that she even didn’t state the show was canceled, just that there were no episodes in production.

My sister and I used to love this show growing up! I had no idea it was so short so we must have rewatched it a lot. This and some of the other shows you mentioned, like Ruby Gloom, reminded me of another show we used to watch called Growing Up Creepy. No idea if you've seen it or not but it seems so up your alley and could make a super cool video! Its basically about a human girl being raised by a family of insects and it falls into a similar category as the previously mentioned shows.
The mid 2000s seemed to have a brief era of darker, creepy kid shows that I totally forgot about and could be a whole deep dive on its own. Making Fiends, Ruby Gloom, Growing Up Creepy, Scooby-Doos Mystery Inc., Secret Saturdays and Grossology all have the vibe.

Okay, so i didn't subscribe last video of yours that i watched because, as someone who has kids who are older than you to the point where I'm even a grandma now, I figured that pop culture commentary from a generation so far removed from mine wouldn't often end up tossing up things that related to my own personal timeline on the planet very well, aside from content that my kids watched that I consumed alongside them. You know, back when it wasn't called content or content consumption 😅. Anyway, I hop on TH-cam today and once again the algorithm has recommended one of your videos to me, and surprisingly enough it's about one of my old favorite web cartoons.
My long time best friend Stacy, known each other literally more than half hour lives now, she's always been the one who comes in clutch when it comes to recommending and finding great stuff on the internet. Back when Making Fiends was still a Flash based cartoon, she shot me a link to the debut episode, and I was immediately hooked. When we found out that Nickelodeon had picked it up to become one of their new shows, we were stoked - I never followed it over to the nicktoons website, can't remember why now it's been so long ago, but I do remember hearing that it was being developed for TV animation and that was the last that I'd heard. Life being so busy raising a young kid back then, never really had a chance to try to hunt it down when it actually did briefly air, and I don't even think that I heard of it airing - back then, despite the internet existing, news about new media projects wouldn't spread quite as quickly as it does now, and I guess Nickelodeon had it on in such a blink if you miss it sort of fashion, I didn't even really have a chance to catch it while it was still on air.
I hadn't thought about this cartoon in years, and I'm really happy that I stumbled across this video of yours - I'm going to have to go and watch those episodes that I never got to catch, now. And this time, I'm also correcting my mistake of not hitting the subscribe button on your channel when I had a chance the last time.
And, agreed: fake citrus is the only flavor that actually resembles the fruit it came from, probably because it's kind of hard to screw up the taste of literal vitamin C 🤣🤣🤣

Making fiends is such a nostalgia fever dream! I remember finding the webseries as a tween sometime around 2008-09 and being absolutely crushed that there wasn’t more after the short TV series. It breaks my heart to see how the creator was mistreated, but this show is so fun and funny and deserves to be remembered!

I loved Making Fiends! I watched it online for a long time and used to sing the song "concrete shoes" and the song about cheese all the time. When it started airing on tv i was so excited and then it was just... gone. I had no idea it got cancelled and nickelodeon totally screwed the creator! Thats so messed up, is there any way she can get the rights back? Im glad you made this video, Making Fiends deserves way more attention. I loved it so much when i was young! Ive just finished the intro portion of your video and im looking forward to the breakdown of the episodes! This is such a treat while im finishing up my overnight shift :)

it's insane to me that i can remember almost every episode i saw of this show in quite vivid detail
yet i cannot remember the majority of my time alive as a human being up until i was 13? 14? something doesn't add up with that but doesn't matter.
i do distinctly remember watching it on tv and it was one of my favorite shows (i have adhd and was diagnosed at the time but recently found out i probably also have autism) and vendetta was my favorite character.
this show is genuinely one of the only things i can remember in such detail and it caused me to light up in pure joy seeing this video.
i love this channel so much, i wouldn't have thought you would make an episode about it, or even talk about ruby gloom! it makes me so happy seeing my favorite childhood shows have a conversation again!

I ran into Making Fiends when I was exploring the internet, but I didn't know their names so I called Vendetta "green girl" and Charlotte "blue girl". I was that young when I ran into the TV series.

Making Fiends is one of my favorite shows of all time it’s so underrated and didn’t deserve to be treated so poorly by Nickelodeon like seriously if it was given the chance it could have been the next Invader Zim (another favorite of mine) with its dark tone and creepiness!
Vendetta and Charlotte are such awesome characters but the others like Marvin and Mr Milk and Marion are interesting too and if the show were given more of a chance I would have loved for them to be expanded upon more but since it’s not Spongebob they canned it super fast which really sucks

Making Fiends almost reminds me of Invader Zim in multiple ways. Both ran on Nickelodean and both sort of pushed the boundaries of what could be shown on kids TV. And, sadly, they had a short runtime.
Now that I think about it. Nickelodean was pretty dark for a kids channel in the 2000s.

y’all think this cartoon was unknown, but my favourite show was Zombie Hotel, and my friends are all like “um… what?” and i’ll bust into the theme song, and all i get is weird looks 😭 Making Fiends was massively appreciated by my neurodivergent kid ass 🤣 especially when paired with other uncanny and slightly disturbing cartoons, like The Cramp Twins and (as previously mentioned) Zombie Hotel 🤣 Ruby Gloom and Mona the Vampire would also fall into this category for me, but my friends had all heard of those two… but heck, i love this genre of show!! please keep making video essays about this kind of show, i’m loving them!! 💜

I recently got into this show, and one thing I didn’t expect was that the song Charlotte sings in the episode “Parents” would almost make me cry.
It's been literally 20 years since a friend of the family/friend of Amy first introduced me to her websites. I remember when the original animations were being released I was around 8 years old. I would check the websites all the time to see when new episodes were going to come out. The flash menu to navigate the site was so charming. Making Fiends has such special place in my heart and always reminds me of my weird kid roots
