Happy Sunday...enjoy the report! Don’t forget you can follow me on Instagram: @paulstripreports, and on Twitter too: @pauls_trips Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway from last week. I’ll be picking winners at midnight tonight and notifying them. I’ll also announce who they are in next week’s instalment of Paul’s Trip Reports.... Have a great weekend!
Nice Video as usual? Ive always wanted to fly on a Fokker but the oldest thing we have in North America these days are Dash8-100s...., love you channel as well :)
This was a nice surprise. My late father worked on the Fokker wing assembly at Shorts in Belfast. He retired in 1993, just three years before Fokker folded with a loss of 600 jobs at Shorts. Its nice to know that even though hes no longer around, theres something he worked on still in service.
I flew the Fokker 100 for the first time two months ago. With Helvetic Airways from Munich to Zurich. I absolutely loved it. The pilots were having their fun too. I have never seen such a steep climb. Felt like 5 seconds from the runway to cruising altitude. :D Had the exit row and the legroom was amazing everywhere. Seating configuration from the 90s, i guess. Good old times. If anyone of you has the chance to fly one, go before they are all extinct.
Nice I worked for Fokker in 1978 at schiphol, before they made the 100, it was F27's and F28's back then, still great company and good to see one still in service, sigh I really miss the old bac 1-11 and tridents though
Well done, Paul! I just became one of your Patreon contributors because I love the manner in which you share your trip reports...a true storyteller, you are Sir! I believe in you and the continuing evolution of your posts so definitely press on and we’ll all be watching, eagerly, for each new update. Side note: every single time you show the legroom segment and move your feet/legs, I chuckle because it calls to mind childhood days when I did this on my first flights, starting at the age of 3 yrs old...LOVE IT!! Cheers Mate! ...see you in the skies! 😊
When American flew Fokker 100s, I flew them many times, and loved this aircraft because of the incredibly quiet forward portion of the cabin. It was almost totally silent and vibration free.
My very first flight was on a Fokker Friendship as they were called when operated by East West Airlies in Australia way back in about '64 , '65 .... Loved the vlog as always .. Cheers
Paul, love your weekly reports. As for the Fokker 100, my 18 yo daughter said what’s so special about that plane. I told her they were just less common but I used to regular fly on them between DFW & MEM on AA back in the early 2000s. Then in your video you stated that tail # was in service with AA for over a decade. Yes too on quiet w/rear engine aircraft. NW used to have a ton of old DC aka Jurassic 9s based in the former MEM hub and DL used to burn up a bunch of routes around the southeast US w/their Seven Twos. Keep up the great vids.
Nice report Paul. When I was much younger I used to commute every week for 6 months on a KLM Fokker 100 from Stansted to Schipoll. That bought back some good and tiring memories! I now live in the US and all my flights are on A320's or 737-900's. I get an occasional 767 down to Houston every once in a while!
Lovely report Paul, not only did you luck out with the seat next to you, you managed to get the plane replacement bus to yourself too. I managed to get a Fokker 100 a few times, last one was Malev from BUD-AMS in 2009, and before that two Helvetic examples from ZRH-BUD in 2008.
Couldn't agree more - very unusual trip, lol, and very enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing. In 2003 I to flew on a Fokker100 from Budapest to Zagreb (and later that night by sheer coincidence, also had an unexpected 'bus-instead-of-air' experience thanks to a sudden, fierce as hell, midair, 'Mistral' wind storm between Split and Dubrovnik.) Love those Fokkers.
Another excellent and very interesting video Paul thank you. I flew into LjubIjana in a Lockheed Constellation (yes Im very old) in 1964 a Euravia (pre Britannia and Thomson TUI I believe) flight from Luton, couldn`t see much then either !
Nice, I went on one of KLM's last Fokker 70 flights from Norwich - Amsterdam and enjoyed the smooth landing and quiet cabin (as well as lots of legroom!), even sitting in row 14, near the engines!
Ljubliana is a seriously excellent city, Slovenia is one of my favourite European countries, very beautiful and mountainous, like a mini Austrlai, frindly people and quiet, lovely! Interesting trip!
In the past I used to fly these Fokkers quite often with KLM. Especially the ones with the 'original' seating (like the one in this report) are very comfortable. KLM did overhaul the interiors a couple of years before they went out of service, and the new 'thin' seats certainly made the experience of flying a Fokker a lot less great. Also I always loved that the airconditioning seems to be connected to the engines in some kind of analog way, meaning that if the engines spool up - so does the airflow in the cabin. This is especially noticeable on descent where engine thrust is moved back-and-forth to and from idle.
I noticed that thing with the air conditioning too - flew on a F70 last year with KLM and the air conditioning roared during takeoff. It must be a really weird system.
Nice report and welcome to Zagreb ;) You could've taken direct flight from Vienna to Zagreb with Croatia Airlines or Austrian and you would've probably got DashQ-400 or Embraer 195, but it seems that Fokker and bus aren't bad option too :)
Paul, it was interesting to find that this bird flew for AA. I may have traveled on it when AA had a small fleet of the Fokker 100's base at Dallas Love Field, in their successful effort to put Legend Airways out of business. I worked in Dallas for about 10 years and AA and UA were our corporate airlines. I could fly AA in First Class from Love Field for less than coach from DFW airport. The routes were limited, but Love Field to Austin was one I took often. I lived in Highland Park so Love field was very convenient for me. If you watch them land they have air brakes below the rudder to slow the plane.
Great report as always! I agree it is disconcerting when there are no obvious things to see out if the windows on final approach. This is often the case when landing in amman depending on the flightpath. Sometimes the approach is over the desert but if you are lucky the approach is over the city with awesome views day or night. 😊
Hi Paul Fokker 100s are abundant in Western Australia. Virgin Australia and Qantas use these for their runs up to the Mines in the Pilbara. Another great vid mate. Cheers
I remember I flew on a NW DC-10-40 to Seattle many year ago and we landed in thick fog, did a Cat III autoland, did not see runway until we were on it and I was sat at a window, finger biting time!!! Nice video :o)
Enjoyed that Paul, cheers! Can't get over how quiet that aircraft was. I'm off to Lisbon with Brussels Airlines on Monday after E* over on Sunday, returning to LGW with TAP. Not intending to vlog about it though as I need a break! All the best.
Cheers Andrew! Lisbon is supposed to be great - I still haven’t been. I’m actually taking the first E* public train to Amsterdam on April 4th. Can’t wait!
Would love to join you, but am booked with Norwegian long-haul to Seattle that day! Turning right unfortunately, but turning left to come home :) Goede Reis!
Interesting always Sir.. I flew the F50 a while ago.. strong aircraft and the jets were also underrated but expensive. The 100 s still fly in WA and Qld in Australia
DA-DA-DA-DAAAAAA Introducingggggggggg 'Bus Miles' ! The quirkiness of this whole trip is just brilliant Paul. Slovenia's a lovely place especially Lake Bled.
Best bit of pilot/ATC comms I ever heard was a BA 747 captain after being warned that he had traffic at his 11 o'clock, an F100 he replied "yes, I have the little Fokker in sight".
Paul, are you sponsored by Priority Pass? If not, you certainly should be. I'm sure you've sent a decent chunk of business their way. I'm even considering it myself thanks to your reviews.
Back in the early nineties when I started spotting at Toronto CYYZ, I would have seen your aircraft as an American Airlines bird. Later it became part of the Jetsgo fleet here in Canada! She looks like she's been looked after all this time, glad you got to fly on her!
Another good report. Had the pleasure of flying the Fokker 100 on AA from Austin TX to Dallas Love Field. Very interesting trip, I felt the plane had power and the ride was nice. I wish Fokker had gotten more sales
It’s a really pleasant aircraft. Sadly almost impossible to find in North America these days. Not sure if any airlines have any. Good news though, aircraft like the CS100 are a really worthy fit for that market.
Paul's Trip Reports It’s a shame Fokker disappeared. It was a great builder of airplanes. I have flown the F27 with Horizon Air and Air Wisconsin, the F28 with Horizon Air (all retired). AA had the F100 and was looking at the F70, then Embraer came out with ERJ series of aircraft and Bombardier came out with with the CRJ 700 and Fokker never stood a chance
I was qualified to fly on this a/c while it was in our fleet (i'm a f/a). Only actually worked on it once due to where I was based. It was a no thank you ever again a/c in my eyes. However, my airline also only had the version that had the 2 front exits only, so I assume you would understand why it wasn't a favorite. Funny where that a/c came from.....And thank you again for acknowlegding the crew. Short hops are not easy on certain a/c with limited time restrictions.
When I flew at Horizon Airlines (QX) back in the day we operated Fokker F28.....always fun to hear ATC say "do you have the Fokker in sight? Follow the Fokker cleared visual approach". We affectionately called them "Smurf Jets" but I can't remember why anymore! Love the music! If you want to try and 'non-rev' on Southwest airlines pm me, you can experience the vicissitudes of standby travel on a "buddy pass". Cheers.
I've flown the Fokker 100 more than a few times with Austrian. Personally, I found the cabin quite spacious. Funny to see that Carpatair is offering CloudHoppers snacks. Austrian used to have the same.
Thanks for the report! Awesome seeing this one from the inside :D I never appreciated the Fokker 70s and 100s back in the days...flown them on KLM, Austrian, Swissair, and Tyrolean....and now that they are more or less extinct I am so sad LOL. Well, I guess Tyrolean crash landing one of their F70s in a field sort of put me off haha. To fly the Adria CRJs, you may have to book on Lufthansa...I once ended up on one of them flying Frankfurt to Poznan in Poland. Thought it was funny, flying "Lufthansa" and not having German speaking crew....
Cheers! I remember that Tyrolean crash, was due to icing if I remember. Was quite lucky here as I don’t really like CRJs (windows spaced w a a a a y too far apart). Vienna airport is damn nice though, some really chic shops. One day when I’m rich...!
Here in Brazil the Fokker 100 had such a horrible public image that then TAM (now LATAM Brasil) had to get rid of theirs, as they were losing passengers after a horrible crash in São Paulo, one episode of engine failure with a window broken by the debris, through which a passenger was sucked out (she was held partially in by another passenger, but she was already dead when the plane made an emergency landing at the nearest airport), two forced landings on the same day (one of which in a farm field where a cow was killed by being run over by the jet!), a bomb in a plane from where a passenger was blasted out in flight (not a terrorist attack, it was just some psycho who placed the bomb), a runway excursion at Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro (VERY short runway surrounded by the sea on three sides), a door detached and falling on takeoff from São Paulo-Congonhas and hitting a supermarket roof (fortunately no injuries), and several minor incidents. Later OceanAir (now Avianca Brasil) started flying the Fokker 100, but they never mentioned it - they called it "MK 28" trying to fool less aviation-conscious passengers. Their operation was flawless, though - not even a serious incident. Now they're an all-Airbus airline (including some rare A318s). Me, I flew the Fokker 100 several times, both on TAM and on OceanAir, and I loved it - roomier than most planes of its size range, very smooth and quiet (if you sat in the front).
Oh, and as for changing your seats, on a 4-leg domestic trip in the U.S. (MIA-ORD-SFO-DFW-MIA), American Airlines changed my seat assignment for ALL flights, without change of plane!
A connection by bus, wow that's unusual. I really like the plane themed crisps. I have a trip planned to Zagreb, I think I ll take the train to Ljubljana
American Airlines bought the little Fokkers because Chicago O’Hare was slot restricted. American was locked in a fierce battle at O’Hare with United and United had more slots. The Fokkers, with some US First Class seats, had under 100 seats. O’Hare classified them as regional jets. These fit into a different category and they allowed American to add flights that it couldn’t otherwise add. They pulled even more seats off of them and added an all first class 56 seat Fokker 100 service from Love Field to compete against short-lived Legend Airlines under the restrictions of the Wright Amendment.
If you ever visit Tirana, you should try the Lufthansa route from Frankfurt to Tirana. It's a good route and it's normally around 1 hour 45 minutes flight time
Remember flying regular between bhx and Amsterdam on KLM Fokker aircraft Also saw interview between des O'Connor and Stan Boardman talking about the fokkers
That odd 2+3 seat layout. Air Canada flew something like that in the early 90's but the first 4/5 rows were (maybe) 1+2 business class. I only remember it because the aisle wasn't completely straight and the cabin crew would breeze through business class with the food cart and often WHAM into the poor econ pax in the first 2+3 row.
Come to Australia. Alliance Airlines have the largest fleet of Fokkers in the world. That is all they have in their fleet - nothing but Fokkers. As well, Virgin Australia and Qantas have a few in their subsidiary airlines. Most are used for Fly In Fly Out services to the mines, however, the Virgin Australia flights between Brisbane and Rockhampton, Gladstone and Port Macquarie and the Qantas flights between Brisbane and Mt Isa are all operated daily by Alliance Fokkers.
How about doing some reviews on coach lines - e.g. between London and Europe? Who knows, they may become popular when Brexit finally arrives. Even now on certain routes, coach travel can be a sensible choice and therefore a viable alternative to air-travel under certain circumstances. I used to often use Eurolines between London and the continent, but the experience varied between very comfortable and nightmarish with little consistency. Vehicle preparation, staff courtesy at check in at Victoria and on-board cleanliness plus on-board catering and motorway service station stops are always important for passenger satisfaction. I wish I could remember what make of coach it was that I travelled on between London and Bielefeld. The suspension and braking made it feel as if you were floating on air. It was from one of the lesser-known German but very expensive manufacturers - can't remember the name. You check your luggage into the boot at the commencement of the journey and you don't see it again until the end of the trip - less hassle than at the airport IMHO. You can see where you are going and there is a sort of feeling of adventure on such bus journeys.
Buses are exceptionally slow which means often a whole day or more goes up the spout - I often take 2-3 flights a day when cramming itineraries which means 2-3 videos. I also don’t think the videos would suit my style to be honest.
Paul, your Reports are fantastic. As an American transport geek who loves to get to Europe (especially the UK) but can do so rarely, I totally live vicariously through these. I got to fly F100's on one round trip between ORD and SWF circa 2000, on American. (This used to be a nonstop mainline flight, but I believe it's connecting service only on regional partners now.) Those flights were memorably comfortable and pleasant, back when legroom and decent service were still selling points. Sigh....
Very odd that you didn't get mileage for the flight but did so for your van journey--was it an easy transfer from the Zagreb bus station to your hotel? Interesting scene at your lounge visit in Vienna--as you were opening a lid to one of the food offerings,a sliding door opened labeled 'Staff Only'' but nobody came in /out! Interesting that Adria doesn't fly to London but does to Manchester--I could feel the late hour as you were speaking to us from your hotel
About the KLM plane. A couple of years ago KLM painted a few of their aircraft with a vintage design (50's or 60's). Have you seen them and, if you did, what did you think of that? I thought they were pretty cool.
Great video of this unusual trip. Appropriate dreamy surreal music at the end! I'll try this myself at some point. The airlines ought to pay you for promoting their routes - otherwise its down to the online/offline travel agents to point their customers in the right direction.
I initially watched this trip report initially to see how you would get your tongue around *Ljubljana* - and you did it *perfectly!* Then, alas, you said it was the capital of Slo-vee-nia. Sorry, but it's pronounced Slo-ven-iya! LOL! Anyway I do so much like your trip reports - plenty of of video, and just the right amount of talk. Keep up the good work!
I stumbled across your channel a few months back and liked what I saw. It gave me the idea to create my own channel. Mine is nothing of the standard compared to yours. My camera quality is very poor but will improve it in the future if my channel takes off (excuse the pun). I've already uploaded my first video and further ones will follow each week. I'm actually flying on a Fokker 100 myself on Saturday with Bek Air. I beleive their entire fleet is made up of Fokker 100's. That video will be up on my channel on 2nd April.
Piedmont Airlines which was absorbed into Allegheny which then became USAir which then became... flew the Fokkers and they were always enjoyable. Nice to see the Piedmont brand back under AA as a regional "Heritage" brand but alas, no Fokkers
I've flown sixseperate times and have mainly seen people (personell included) struggling with those automatic check-in machines. It's like they always work for you. That's just sheer luck :D
Great Video Paul got a suggestion you can take it or leave it by all means but have you tried GWR Pullman Breakfast I need to do it myself but would like to get insight on what it is like
I still can't get over on how you don't get air miles traveling in the air but get air miles traveling on the ground. And to me, that's a van, not a bus, but still.
That minibus flight is something I’ve never ever seen before! What it must have cost to send 1 person on a 90 minuet mini bus trip! 😂 Just seems really daft. I though it would be a regional coach they’d put you on or something. Very strange but I bet it was a great experience
Like me, you find the silver lining when you travel and have something happen. However, I don't recall ever smiling! those lights ( in the SKY lounge) were strobing...any way that can be picjed up and sorted? (twitches a bit)
Thanks, boss. It's a thing I had to contend with in the early days of video recording, using reel-to-reel tapes Top video, great music. Btw - one thing I've learned from you is this - If I've never heard of the carrier, it's probably going to be good!
Have you do the dutch-flyer and ferry from Harwich before, because I remember you doing a ferry video you said the files got corrupted so you couldn't upload it, if not could you do Stena Line from Harwich International to the Hook of Holland.
Happy Sunday...enjoy the report!

Paul's Trip Reports hello! Awesome video! Keep up the great work!!!!!
Paul's Trip Reports wow
Did you find out which fokker moved your seat? (Sorry, I couldn't resist)

watching your videos is a form of therapy for me, please keep uploading, love your videos and i’ll keep on supporting! :-)
Ljubljana in the day time on a clear day, the scenery is stunning, especially enjoyed the route from Linz over the Alps when I was flying for DHL.
My very first flight was on a Fokker Friendship as they were called when operated by East West Airlies in Australia way back in about '64 , '65 .... Loved the vlog as always .. Cheers

How long was the flight time for that?
Come back Fokker 100. One of my all-time favourite aircraft. Many happy hours in them between MAN-AMS with both KLM and Air UK.
Great trip report 👌👍
Ljubliana is a seriously excellent city, Slovenia is one of my favourite European countries, very beautiful and mountainous, like a mini Austrlai, frindly people and quiet, lovely! Interesting trip!
Cheers Paul. Great to see these old birds earning my keep. My last flight into Ljubljana was with Invicta Airways on a Vanguard I believe.

Shame it wasn't a daytime flight, you would have had some spectacular views of the Karawanks. Yes, that is a mountain range.
as well Julian Alps

Cheers! I remember that Tyrolean crash, was due to icing if I remember. Was quite lucky here as I don’t really like CRJs (windows spaced w a a a a y too far apart). Vienna airport is damn nice though, some really chic shops. One day when I’m rich...!
9:07 they put Bucharest in Bulgaria!!
Reminds of my time spent in Timisoara with the Carpatair fleet
What doesn't suck in brazil?
Nice to see an old aircraft still in service,Love to see you one day going to skiathos or St Maarten : )
9:09 It's so strange to see the Romanian capital (Bucharest) in Bulgaria on Adria's route map
Well, our capital likes to migrate south in the winter. :))
If you ever visit Tirana, you should try the Lufthansa route from Frankfurt to Tirana. It's a good route and it's normally around 1 hour 45 minutes flight time
Remember flying regular between bhx and Amsterdam on KLM Fokker aircraft
Also saw interview between des O'Connor and Stan Boardman talking about the fokkers
Paul - interesting trip and as always a great trip report.
Used to stay in hotel panorama in Zagreb when I worked for shearings coaches great city lovely buildings and fantastic 🍺 beer
Sigh....
Here in West Australia, the F100 is quite common on the charter airlines that run from Perth out to the mine sites.
A Brilliant Site, love the reports.
I shall be heading out to Ljubljana later this year... Will be getting the Train from Zagreb.. Will let you know if that's worth a trip report :)
train trip from Zagreb to Ljubljana with average speed as in times of Kaiser Franz, haha
The route map is a nice touch!
You should've done a separate trip report video for your 'flight'from Ljubljana to Zagreb ;-)
That Fokker's so old! If you landed in Ljubljana when it was built, you would have found yourself in Jugoslavia!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing.
And you didn't notice the Adria with stress in the -ri-? :-)
That was a nice surprice for me as Dutchman : a Fokker100.
Indeed very rare.
Paul, perhaps you could give a grade on the smoothness of each landing?
I really enjoy your videos, thanks!
Must admit seeing the engines at the tail rather than on the wings makes me nervous. Not the dark outside!
Good to know the AA fleet lives on.
i love your videos 100% hello from Tennessee!!!
Hi Paul, great Vlog. Have you ever had a turbulent flight or 1 where you won't show because it was bad?. Thanks, Ian.
Such an interesting choice of flight!😊👍
paul if you whantd to go on the e320 then go on the service from london to amstdam love you content
They don’t, the footage is edited! Sometimes it can take me 2-3 minutes to get it all done.
Hello!
Bcharest is so missed placed on the Adria's map, but Carpatair is Romanian tho.
Safe trips, Paul!
Great Video Paul got a suggestion you can take it or leave it by all means but have you tried GWR Pullman Breakfast I need to do it myself but would like to get insight on what it is like
Adria not only have CRJs they do have airbuses
Carl Watson and tbey will buy around 12 Sukhojev Superjet 100
And they are having some Darwin aircrafts while Adria is now owner lf Darwin...
Enej Fürst They wont fake news
Adria use other companies like that in this video Carpatair
I still can't get over on how you don't get air miles traveling in the air but get air miles traveling on the ground.
And to me, that's a van, not a bus, but still.
That minibus flight is something I’ve never ever seen before! What it must have cost to send 1 person on a 90 minuet mini bus trip! 😂 Just seems really daft. I though it would be a regional coach they’d put you on or something. Very strange but I bet it was a great experience
1990s legroom how we all miss tht!!!!! hint hint BA
another good report although i didn't think much of the hot food on offer think i would bring a couple of sarnies
RIP
Thanks Paul
Like me, you find the silver lining when you travel and have something happen. However, I don't recall ever smiling! those lights ( in the SKY lounge) were strobing...any way that can be picjed up and sorted? (twitches a bit)
They weren’t flickering, this is just a visual effect caused when the light’s electrical supply frequency coincides with the camera frame rate.
Thanks, boss. It's a thing I had to contend with in the early days of video recording, using reel-to-reel tapes Top video, great music. Btw - one thing I've learned from you is this - If I've never heard of the carrier, it's probably going to be good!
In western Australia you would always see a Fokker 100
It was those Fokkers that brought us down...
Let’s hope you are safe and well, with all this bad weather we are having in the U.K. at present. ❄️⛄️
I would like to know what type of hotels you stay at and if you have a sponsor for them? I do like to see these short regional flights.
I stay mostly in very cheap hotels - I’m not sponsored.
The Fokkers are so lovely
Have you do the dutch-flyer and ferry from Harwich before, because I remember you doing a ferry video you said the files got corrupted so you couldn't upload it, if not could you do Stena Line from Harwich International to the Hook of Holland.
A weird one! Slovenia one of only 3 EU countries Ive yet to visit and no direct flights from Ireland :-(
An awesome video!
Will you fly Vueling Airlines please
Are the dots on the map the airports you have been to, or just major airports?
