That whole talk about clean and messy solos is so accurate and very crucial for anyone starting to learn death metal solos. I kind of had this realization when I tried to learn the pull the plug solo and realized that its not necessarily playing the exact notes at the right time, but playing a sort of musical "contour" using that scale/ sound. Of course this doesn't mean you should just play sloppy and messy and label them as messy solos, but always know when that distinction exists.
Yep, pull the plug is another great solo to illustrate that concept. And you are dead right, it doesn't mean you should try to play sloppy but I guess being able to tell one from the other comes naturally!
Yes that has been blocking me from playing songs I love for a very long time, but then you realise it's simply not achievable, and it really kinda opens up a world of new songs to cover
Woow! Thanks for the accurate answering, you seem to be a super nice guy indeed! Talking about the "early Carcass-alike stuff" I would like to recommend you the Band "The County Medical Examiners" if you haven't heard from them before. The Song "Caspers Dictum" can be a good start. It's a deliberate Carcass Rip-off by some actual american medical doctors :)) As a medical doctor myself (that explains my modest guitar playing ya'know) I was totally blown. Good stuff. Cheers and keep it up! You've made guitar youtube fresh again for so many people!
My pleasure man! I gave a listen to The County Medical Examiners and I can definitely hear the Carcass influences. I'm super glad you find my videos entertaining and don't worry about not playing enough. I always tell myself: if you can play the songs you wanna play, then good, but if you can't, that gives you something to look forward to! Thanks for your continued support my friend, I always love to see your comments!
For sure, I put three coats of some acrylic spray can paint then sanded it a bit and then two coats of clear coat from the 2K brand, I think it's automotive clear coat. Left it to dry then sanded with 380 grit, then 800, up to 2000, then I polished with compound from another automotive brand and just rubbed that with some microfiber cloth until I had some sort of shine. It looks ok from afar but really it's an amateur job. I was considering getting another one custom built to the exact same specs but maybe in a few years!
Oh I already did and went down the rabbit hole of goregrind. I do like pathologist and can see how they influenced Pharmacist but the production falls a bit short imo, still a great band!

Great video as usual !! Thanks for your work Tbomb
Merci chef!
Your answer to the second question was great. I get caught up trying to be perfect, even when I'm playing a solo that was intentionally a mess.
also JB is almost always a bridge pickup, 59 is almost always a neck pickup :)
