I immensely enjoy your videos. You stand out by how unapologetic and direct you are in expressing your opinions and backing them up masterfully. You cut down a lot of strawmen, but those "strawmen" are usually quite sturdy and nuanced in their counters. This is going to be a very off topic question, but have you ever thought about checking out Mob Psycho 100? Its made by the same guy who made the OPM webcomic and the anime has been pretty well done.
Properly stated, Saitama isn't a parody of the unstoppable superhero (like Superman); his joke is that he has all the power of an end-of-series shonen protagonist (Goku at the end of DBZ)... only he has that power at the beginning of his series, therefore, there aren't any characters that can challenge him. And it bores him.
I've been enjoying all your videos these past few days and am officially subscribed. Now as for this video specifically, I always assumed Deadpool was a movie made by the main character "Deadpool" where "Deadpool" is literally directing the movie while he's in it. He breaks the fourth wall a lot (which is what the character of Deadpool does, but whatever) and pauses the film to add little notes or silly jokes. Not sure if this constitutes as subversive, but it is something a little unique. I just wish if that's how they were really planning on filming the movie, by making it a film where literal "Deadpool" made all the decisions including casting, plot, diologue, ect in order to make himself look like a badass superhero, then maybe they should have made it more obvious that that was what they were doing. I don't know. Did this even make any sense? Nvr mind.
Its an interesting concept and the bones are there in Deadpool but there isnt enough evidence to prove that was what the writers/director intended. Personally I think the fourth wall breaks are nothing more than what they appear to be - cheap gags.
Love both Deadpool and One Punch Man, but this critique of Deadpool is actually really honest and straight up. Definitely different from your other stuff lol.

9:57 why women deserve less CanNOT believe I thought the prostitute love interest broke new ground when these women all did essentially the same thing. Cringe.
All these years later, I understand a bit on why I enjoyed Deadpool the movie and the comic book character for a time, and why I don't after maturing: He is a pure power fantasy on the level of The Boys comics. He is the strawman of what the public thinks of edgy teenage boys: unstoppable, dangerous, cannot be stopped, but ultimately harmless. When I acted like one, he stood out to me. When I matured out of it, I rejected him. As for One's characters, those touch on topics which transcend a particular genre or trope. One Punch man deals with the realities of what a literal undefeatable hero would be like. God like powers, but ultimate boredom, in a world which does not understand or appreciate him, and he lacks the ability to stop or change any of it. Sort of the opposite of most Whu Shu novels, or Mary Sues in the West. Mob represents that awkward years for boys becoming men where the ultimate truth for boys is not quite understood, and shoot, most men refuse to accept it: what makes your path in life, is what you choose to do in each moment towards a goal. That is, you are not predestine towards one clearly obvious path, like Mob's strong powers push him towards, but what you will yourself to be. For a historical comparison, this is the difference between Roman slave education, what our modern education is based on, and the Cicero's proscribed education system: one educates a man for a singular task that he is damned to, and the other trains a man to adapt to his circumstances, overcome them, and make his situation better for it. Mob follows in Cicero's footsteps, where as Deadpool follows in the Roman slave's footsteps. As one golf enthusiasts once said, "A man chooses. A slave obeys."
Its slightly unfair to say the movie Captain America didn't work for his powers. His unwillingness to give up combined with his morals lead him to being picked in the first place... So he still was created with a serum, but how he got there & his reasoning for how he uses his powers is very much reliant on his character's actions.
"if the whole movie had been about their dynamic..." oh man, considering the quality of the "cable & deadpool" comic arc, which the next movie is gonna be based of off, you're gonna wish you hadn't asked for that
Let's see.. Neon Genesis Evangelion, Steins;Gate, Cowboy Bebop. Are there any other top tier anime out there? Does the Berserk from 90's count, because I've never seen it? Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? Haruhi Suzumiya? I'd like to know all top tier ones.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a must watch. Baccano!, Trigan, Tatami Galaxy, Mushishi, Psycho Pass and Monster are one of the best for different reasons. And if you don't mind long-running shonen shows - Hunter x Hunter and Gintama are better than the most. Or something like that~
0:31 Still waiting, would love to see it. Honestly watched it because of your recommendation...its now one of my favorites. Early-mid second season was a bit of a trog, but the middle and late parts made it all worth it.

To be honest, I thought Saitama was a character to look up to after he beat Deep Sea king and taking the blame. Also l, just because the training does not explain the power does not mean, he didn't work for it at all. I mean doing the same repetitive routine every day, especially as a normal human is not something that can be taken lightly imo at least.
I really love these videos where you analyze shows and go over traits/tropes that are over used and giving the story line decent criticism. I'm currently creating my own story that I hope to create into a animated tv show or a Web comic and thanks to you I have caught multiple mistakes that you've stated and it's really helping my story come together more smoothly. Keep up the good work, man, and thanks a lot for these vids 😊
One of the things that’s oddly relatable about Saitama is that he’s akin to the player-character in a game that you’ve beaten. When you beat a game, and you have all the power ups, all the unlockables, and killed all the bosses, when you’ve 100%ed the game, there’s nothing left to do. I have an old Harry Potter game on Gameboy Color where, whenever you beat Voldemort at the end, the game sends you back to Hagrid at the beginning of the game, but you keep your same level, stats, and some of the collectibles. You can beat the game repeatedly and make Harry absolutely busted. It’s kind of funny, but also gets a bit boring when you’re so strong you can one-shot Voldemort. It is a neat game aspect, though, since most games kick you back to your last save-point when you beat the game.
Might be a bit late, but are you ever gonna make that Steins;gate video? Just saw the show and it's fucking awesome. I'm rewatching some of your old vids and I would love to see your take on it.
Hey man, you said Saitama isn’t as much of a G as Big M. Rider. Not true. He was first person to oppose monsters even thought he had no powers. And he won quite a few of this fights. That’s pretty admirable.
This is the one way I can defend Deadpool despite all the valid points made here. It at least delivered something fans did want to see. They kinda all got seriously blue balled by the version of him in Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds was passionate about bringing a more faithful version of him to the big screen. And I think at the least it kinda earned a bit of respect for that, especially considering it wasn't TOTAL garbage despite some pretty dumb bits that were supremely stupid and didn't really need to be in there....mostly everything involving Wade before becoming Deadpool and how he is constantly taking his mask off which always leads to not funny scenes. I contest he's at his funniest in the scenes where the full suit and mask are on, cause then it does feel like Deadpool. And that's when everyone else isn't acting like him minus the fourth wall breaking. tl;dr It's probably the best we're gonna get for the character.
All sadness about humanity is summed up in one character Mumen Raider. He wishes to be better and constantly trying to be so but in the end failing hard everytime.
13:42 That's... That's literally what deadpool is though, thats what hes ALWAYS been. He's a punchline turned into its own franchise. Kinda like OPM, but then again I dont really find either series funny or compelling.
In terms of superheroes who developed their powers through "hard work" I would argue you could also include the Hulk, Captain America, and possibly even Thor. Bruce Banner developed his powers from an experiment he conducted off the back of years of research to become one of the most renowned Nuclear Physicists in the world, and even if it was by accident nobody has been able to replicate it. While Steve Rogers was given his superhuman abilities by an outside source, he was only chosen because he was able to demonstrate his pure character by continually attempting to push himself beyond his meager limits for the benefit of others even when it was unadvisable or self-detrimental to do so. As with Thor although he was simply born with and given his powers, before he become the Thor we know he was stripped of them by his father Odin and forced to learn humility to become worthy of them. I would say that the primary subversion of Saitama's origin is that its humorously mundane, as opposed to the typically colorful and dramatic origins of most superheroes.
This reveals the mental devastation caused by the anchoring effect. Just being told a movie is a subversion will cause people to believe it even when it's not true. As an aside I love all the small edits and sounds in this video. It's a lot of fun to watch. Colossus was definitely the best.
The whole premisse of this video is wrong, because that analysis calling Deadpool of subversion of THE HERO THEME is crap. At most it's a subversion of the production of hero movies. Unlike OPM which you pointed right as an actual one. From where came that description of Deadpool? Rotten Tomatoes? What a sad end for this site we're watching...
I really hope you make that Steins;Gate video someday. That would be awesome. If the Steins;Gate live action adaption ends up coming out, it would be great seeing you deconstruct that (at the cost of your sanity I'm sure :p)
I wish they had kept the thing where deadpool dated death and thanos cockblocked him by making him immortal, instead of deadpool chasing some boring mortal thot
I'm pretty happy with OPM's soundtrack as is. Fits like a glove. As to your original question, two channels get some mention 'round here, YourMovieSucks and DouchebagChocolat (Demo D), who do movie and anime reviews respectively and are far and away better at this thing. If you don't already know 'em, can check those guys out. (Also, sweet profile pic. ;D)
One of the things I like about One Punch Man is that it jokes around with the "Hard Work Fallacy". Saitama in particular is such an obvious employer of the Charles Atlas Superpower that it's actually incredibly funny, because we KNOW that the Hard Work Fallacy is just a fallacy and you do not actually just become the strongest hero (or a master at any other profession) by simple training, so Saitama is absurd to us even if it's just an exaggerated form of what the fallacy implies. On the other side, the in-character side, we have Saitama as a believer of that fallacy as seen in the House of Evolution, while we also have Bang who actually worked a lot harder just fail to even compare to just how insane that sounds to a person who literally can show nothing but his hard work.
The weird shit about One Punch Man is that Power seems to be inextricably linked to Ego. Saitama puts in a pitiful effort that he views as super human, so his Ego makes it so. Boros and Sea King are powered by the absolute belief in their own supremacy. Garou is consumed by his own belief in his self-righteous monsterhood. Darkshine's bower is based entirely on his own belief in his own muscles. Fuhrer Ugly is powered by the negative Ego of his own self-hatred. Its all about ego. And the only real, classic Shounen characters in the series (Mumen Rider and Genos) exist purely as punching bags for the Ego fuelled villains. That deliberate linkage of immature, teenage ego and absolute power are at the same time the most classic Shounen hero trope and the most absolute counter to the classic Shounen hero trope. The subversion is in itself a parody of itself. Its absolute genius in its utter stupidity.

Finally! This over hyped, really average movie 'deadpool', got some well argued criticism it deserves.
12:17 There's a famous page in the comics where Deadpool cuts the comic book itself to go back a few panels and tell himself something, and his past self replies by telling him that he cannot hear because of all the loud gunfire.
I immensely enjoy your videos. You stand out by how unapologetic and direct you are in expressing your opinions and backing them up masterfully. You cut down a lot of strawmen, but those "strawmen" are usually quite sturdy and nuanced in their counters. There is an extraordinary amount of thought put into the way you structure your arguments and I very much appreciate it.
Hey there ER Senpai-san-sama-dono-chan-kun, have you considered the... the possibility that... that like... now go with me here;
*smokes blunt* That maybe MAYBE Deadpool is a *subversion* of a SUBVERSION. You thought a that dude?

E;R Thank you for your videos btw.
(please make more and don't leave me like Internet Aristocrat keeps doing :((( )
You know, that Deadpool theory would be a really cool idea, too bad it still didn't make a good movie though...
I think the fact that you know it wasn't intentional, is what ruins it. It's too subtle and hard to grasp onto in a concrete/stimulating way. Doing all the work for the creators.
Though still an awesome and intensely amusing little insight.
Karnacle Blackburn oh oh, daddy is not impressed
Hey is that Undertale video you can see at 0:21 available to watch anywhere? Didn’t know he’d made one.
This is like a conversation you have with friends at obscure hours.. Love it. Very rare on youtube.
I won't lie, during the little skuff he had with Colossus, I half expected a scene of Deadpool to fly over, hit the camera man and then we see the film crew react. THIS would have been a real Deadpool move. But no. We didn't get that.
but...
The Deadpool movie is a reconstruction of comicbook movies not a subversion of superheroes.
Deadpool is a subversion of superheroes though.
Deadpool is cancer. I always hated Deadpool. I hate reddit and I hate memes too. They can go fuck themselves.
Oh
oh my
Oh my lord
Oh my lord and savior
MINIMAL EFFORT? seriously? a 10 k run every day is minimal effort? i thought the whole point was that he was super determine and worked really hard to get his powers, and while everyone ells tries to cut corners with super power drugs or mech suits or magic powers, one punch man get his powers from had work and dedication. like seriously imagine a 10 k run every day for a year, not taking 1 day of. i think most people's legs would just break.
The cyborg with superhuman strength that hasn't done a single workout in his life calls it a regular workout so it must be minimal effort.
Rikolia
Not even the ultranerd in the room indicated any other opinion. But yeah, that's a lot of effort for normies; but fitness minded people would not consider it very high-level. In any case, it's a parody of the "fighting demons in hell and surviving by licking fungus scum off a rock for eight years" trope in certain shounen IPs.
humans can easily run 10k every day if they train up to it
mickeynotmouse
We _did_ evolve as endurance hunters after all.
***** we dint evolve, the flying spaghetti monster and the god emperor Donald trump combined there powers to created us last Thursday you uneducated normie
I sometime wonder what combination of social and genetic factors generated such an individual that is capable of producing such interesting and captivating new perspectives. How can we replicate the process? How can we replicate your origin story E;R ?
This is going to be a very off topic question, but have you ever thought about checking out Mob Psycho 100? Its made by the same guy who made the OPM webcomic and the anime has been pretty well done.
This aged like wine
Ya notice how Ryan Reynolds has Indian sidekicks in like a 1/5 of his movies, First Van Wilder, then Green Lantern, now Deadpool. A bit odd, I thinks
I don't think he's going to go Bollywood and have a singing/dancing interlude...
Well he is Canadian
Love both Deadpool and One Punch Man, but this critique of Deadpool is actually really honest and straight up. Definitely different from your other stuff lol.
Where's the background with the tentacles from? I need to know...for...science purposes...
.>
ItsArchie I too want to research it... for science.
You were a meanie to deadpool so I am triggered but I still love you because I'm not liberal and I value freedom of speech and opinions.
Edgy.
And true.
>because I'm not liberal and I value freedom of speech and opinions.
ugh this is basically the definition of liberalism, americans please learn what words mean, it's impossible to have conversations with you about politics
No, they are two slightly different things, very closely related cladistically
Whatever country you're from, I'm sure we've beaten you in a war.
What the fuck does not being liberal have to do with this
9:57 why women deserve less
CanNOT believe I thought the prostitute love interest broke new ground when these women all did essentially the same thing. Cringe.
I love that Saitama and Genos decide to find the House of Evolution just because they had some of their goons trash Saitama's apartment. XD
Love that mumen rider gets the respect he deserves in this vid. Well done
Its slightly unfair to say the movie Captain America didn't work for his powers. His unwillingness to give up combined with his morals lead him to being picked in the first place... So he still was created with a serum, but how he got there & his reasoning for how he uses his powers is very much reliant on his character's actions.
God I miss this level of quality analysis
"if the whole movie had been about their dynamic..." oh man, considering the quality of the "cable & deadpool" comic arc, which the next movie is gonna be based of off, you're gonna wish you hadn't asked for that
15:02 who is this chick and why does she look like Deborah Morgan from Dexter TV show?
20:28 - "He is terminally...an outleer!"
Nigga, you mispronouncing words on purpose just to piss me off?
Berserk is good, Loluch V Pizzeria is good for a laugh.
Or something like that~
Jojo's bizarre adventure
Welcome to the N.H.K is pretty great as well
Hunter X Hunter (2011)
the edits are out of this world
This is four years old BUT....
Thank you E;R, for recognizing my boi Mumen Rider. May TheDon be with you.
0:31 Still waiting, would love to see it. Honestly watched it because of your recommendation...its now one of my favorites. Early-mid second season was a bit of a trog, but the middle and late parts made it all worth it.
Did you watch it subbed or subbed? I prefer dubbed unless the dub is trash, but I heard one of the characters was changed in the dub. What do you think?
@@bennywolfe4357 I refused to watch it dubbed.
Anyone know what the song that starts playing at 9:29 is called?
And for the sake of not being COMPLETELY obnoxious, this is probably my favorite one of E;R's reviews
23:33 proof er is stormfront but better written
Anyone know what song is used around 0:12 seconds? I think Alerta Judae used it on one of his videos too but I don't know the name of it.
10:04 Twitter would crucify them if they joked like that today.
Man this movie would be so fun if Deadpool truly played with the 4th wall.
Great analysis and great editing.
It's dark souls for me,even in ng+ i just use some op weapons with buffs and one shot everything,i am too pussy to do a sl1 run tho
Might be a bit late, but are you ever gonna make that Steins;gate video? Just saw the show and it's fucking awesome. I'm rewatching some of your old vids and I would love to see your take on it.
He's workin on it
I hadnt laughed all day until i saw nickolus cage as an airplane
Hey man, you said Saitama isn’t as much of a G as Big M. Rider.
Not true. He was first person to oppose monsters even thought he had no powers. And he won quite a few of this fights.
That’s pretty admirable.
I freaking love one punch man. It won't be long before greedy juice try to grape it.
Remember, folks, this was as bad as it got before the MCU's Phase 4 sludge. 😅 Hope Deadpool 3 won't be neutered.
I've always wanted to know what the name of the song was that starts at 20:15, but could never find it. E;R, do you mind telling me by any chance?
It's from the OPM OST. "Theme of One Punch Man ~Sadness~"
Thank you Garbage Media for promoting this Guys, I appreciate the recommendation.
I mean Batman earned his status and heroism. You could argue he didn't earn his money; however he grew the Wayne tech business and keep it afloat.
1:35 I actually want to see that Zootopia-smashing vid now... It may be a low hanging fruit but please make it!!!
I second this. Challenge yourself E;R. Tear apart That furry cop "movie" in a 55 second video, with 5 of those seconds to shame Shakra.
Just plain awesome video. Your analysis is some of the most in-depth stuff I've seen of our pop culture.
What other numbers could they be lying about? 6*10^6
13:42
That's... That's literally what deadpool is though, thats what hes ALWAYS been. He's a punchline turned into its own franchise. Kinda like OPM, but then again I dont really find either series funny or compelling.
Lol
stamita: Minimum Effort
Deadpool: Maximum Effort
Conclusion: Colossus is subversive by being non-subversive.
Someone shoot me please…
He's the most memorable character of the movie, I agree
Getting powers because someone likes you isn't really all that subversive(nor is serums).
0:37 Okay I broke. When does this happen? I do not remember this scene.
I’m uhh 3 years late but it’s from the ova
Mumen rider is top tier S class.
Change my mind.
This reveals the mental devastation caused by the anchoring effect. Just being told a movie is a subversion will cause people to believe it even when it's not true. As an aside I love all the small edits and sounds in this video. It's a lot of fun to watch. Colossus was definitely the best.
This is the first time i've heard someone call it a tuh-mah-toh and i can't tell if it's intentional or not
The whole premisse of this video is wrong, because that analysis calling Deadpool of subversion of THE HERO THEME is crap. At most it's a subversion of the production of hero movies. Unlike OPM which you pointed right as an actual one. From where came that description of Deadpool? Rotten Tomatoes? What a sad end for this site we're watching...
Saitama. There aren’t words enough to explain just how awesome it is. It explores apathy in a very unique way.
Deadpool comics are good like death note, movie/game=bad also like death note
God I was in 8 th grade when this came out I feel so old.
I really hope you make that Steins;Gate video someday. That would be awesome. If the Steins;Gate live action adaption ends up coming out, it would be great seeing you deconstruct that (at the cost of your sanity I'm sure :p)
I wish they had kept the thing where deadpool dated death and thanos cockblocked him by making him immortal, instead of deadpool chasing some boring mortal thot
are there any other channels like yours?
Dunno. I make these because I can't find my opinions much elsewhere. (Barring Star Wars: FA--it's a lot more hated than some give it credit for.)
If OPM had "X Gon Giv it to Ya" that would be sick, that song is so incredible. it really made Deadpool more awesome than it deserved to be.
(Also, sweet profile pic. ;D)
I was referring more to reviewers who name "the jew" and actually dissect the movie for it's feminist appeals, unlike those RedLetterMedia HAAACKS.
You have to make a review of Jewllywood over zionist movies like "independence day" . You are smart enough to get what I'm saying
E,R I was wondering if you liked the dynamic better in Deadpool 2 between Deadpool and Cable
What did you think of the My Hero Academia anime?
Apothegmatic Reality Basically X-men IMO
Decent or good show, mediocre protagonist.
Watching your vids a couple times over has helped my writing a lot
Thanks for that
your voice is so attractive
Like *what the fuc*
One of them is a walking plot device
The other is a walking plot device
We've reached something of an impasse
Is the strapon scene in this movie Ryan Reynolds poorly hidden fetish?
Probably.
