Really? Both versions of Black Dog and Rock and Roll are far superior in the studio album versions, and both are really terrible in the live version of that great concert.
The tribute was given LZ with some of the greatest musicians, from classical to blues and rock present, with the Obamas there. President Obama even speaks about their influence on his young years. A very moving performance and you get to see LZ well up with emotion! A must see!
And all along i just thought it was what master guitarists played every now and then just to confirm that "status" in a way...not that they shouldn't, and maybe it's all just a strange coincidence whenever one of them uses such a guitar???

Electric guitars can be set up for different sounds and effects, and a successful professional might have a selection of guitars to play during a performance, which are set up differently.

I'm 64 and I remember where I first heard this song and I've got to say it sounds as good now as it did when it first came out. My generation had the best music and I only listen to pre 90s music nowadays.
That's too bad, as the 90s had a lot of really great music. The decades before the 90s produced great music also, but a lot of really bad pop junk as well. You should be willing to give some newer stuff a try.
Hmmmmmm......I’m 74....and I discovered grunge the last year on TH-cam. If you like hard rock, you should check out Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam. Some seriously good music with great vocalists. And if you were/are a fan of prog rock like Yes, Genesis....you should check out Tool, which is prog metal. Fantastic musicianship. Dont short change yourself.........I’m so glad I opened myself to post 1990 music the past year!

No lip singing, no computer generated help for a singer that really cannot sing,,, This is why bands like Led Zepplin and so many others from back in the late 60's and early 70s will live on. The four members of Led Zepplin are all greats in their field. I would say each at the very least are(were) in the top five of their individual instrument(voice). Such a collection of talent is a very special thing.
Concerts were everything we had no internet, we had 3 tv channels, so music was EVERYTHING! I've been to probably 100 concerts. We would sleep out to get tickets. It was great. I miss those times.

The lyrics of Stairway to heaven along with several other songs from the same album (Led Zeppelin iV (Zoso) are actually influenced heavily by the Lord Of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R Tolkien. Some of Stairway to Heaven was written in a small cottage in rural Wales, UK called Bron-Yr-Ar. With no running water or electricity, Page and Plant loved going there because of the inspiration it gave them in song writing.

There a ton of groups from the 1970's that have an awesome sound Led Zeppelin is among the top of the time for me. I grew up as a teenager at the time. My brother and I grew up listening to a plethora of music at the time and got so hooked on it was just a great time to grow up. I miss my brother every day since he passed 3 years ago he was only 2 years older than me. He would have been 62 now.
The Rain song is my heart song. Not my favourite song or the one that I think is the best or whatever. Just a song that can take me from any bad emotion and bring me back to feeling of peace and contentment.
I think since you are new to Led Zeppelin you should of listened to the studio version first and then this live version which btw I was at this show during the filming of this concert which became a movie called The Song Remains the Same...nice reaction and you are lovely as well

What's so great about this song, besides the music is that you can get so many different meanings out of it and because of that you can apply it to many situations and feelings.
Lots of people giving suggestions and they're all great. That's the point with Led Zeppelin. You really can't go wrong no matter what song you listen to. But I think this is the best version of Stairway. The wail at the end is just haunting.
Jimmy the guitarist here used to walk past me every day whilst I was waiting at the bus stop back in the early 60's I think. He always had his guitar on his back. This was in Epsom, Surrey, England. We were both on our way to school. He went on to become perhaps the greatest guitarist in the world.

@@davidcammilleri5526 I have never seen Led Zepplin live and would have been disappointed if I did, I would rather listen to the studio version any day over the live versions, I am OCD when I listen to music from a studio album and I expect it to be the same live, I have seen only Black Sabbath, A/C D/C and Dire Straights live and they all sounded the same as their studio recordings. I have seen a couple of other bands that are classed as very good Pub bands and they were very good too.

Been a fan of Zeppelin for about 50 years now. As a kid in high school I had THE poster of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page from this concert on my bedroom wall, along side of the 2 posters that came in Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album right next to the castle on the hill blacklight poster.
This is from Madison Square Garden, NYC in 1973 and was filmed for their theater release The Song Remains the Same which came out in 1976. Stairway to Heaven is from their fourth album 1971.
When you ever see or listen to one of those top 100 songs of rock history, this song is always right there at #1 or #2. Considered by many as the greatest song in rock history. Saw them in concert in 1977 at the Seattle King Dome. 3 1/2 hours of Led Zeppelin! It was a blast!! Unfortunately it was one of their last concert in the US.
A few others have noted this, the concert was from 1973. They performed three nights at Madison Square Garden with footage from all three shows being used. In addition, there was re-created footage later shot on a soundstage with the bassist wearing a wig because he had cut his hair. The band was unhappy with the concert, and the film wouldn't be released until 1976. Mainly, because singer Robert Plant and his wife had been in a car accident, and the band's manager wanted to keep the group's momentum going while Plant recovered.

I miss my brother every day since he passed 3 years ago he was only 2 years older than me. He would have been 62 now.

The Rain song is my heart song. Not my favourite song or the one that I think is the best or whatever. Just a song that can take me from any bad emotion and bring me back to feeling of peace and contentment.

I think since you are new to Led Zeppelin you should of listened to the studio version first and then this live version which btw I was at this show during the filming of this concert which became a movie called The Song Remains the Same...nice reaction and you are lovely as well

What's so great about this song, besides the music is that you can get so many different meanings out of it and because of that you can apply it to many situations and feelings.
You should definitely checkout the studio version.
Lots of people giving suggestions and they're all great. That's the point with Led Zeppelin. You really can't go wrong no matter what song you listen to.
But I think this is the best version of Stairway. The wail at the end is just haunting.

Jimmy the guitarist here used to walk past me every day whilst I was waiting at the bus stop back in the early 60's I think. He always had his guitar on his back. This was in Epsom, Surrey, England. We were both on our way to school. He went on to become perhaps the greatest guitarist in the world.

I’m kinda binge watching you now because it’s just so wonderful to see someone discover the music that I found as a child. It gives me hope.A lot of it was written before I was born, the look on your face and your reactions bring me back to when I first heard them.
4 guys. No support players in the background. No auto tune. No samples. You either had it or you didn't. They had it. They were known to play 2-3 hour concerts at their peak. That's you on stage delivering. That band was unlike anything before or since.

I believe this live performance was recorded around 1975. The song was first released as a studio recording off of Led Zeppelin's 4th album in 1971. It is one of the most played songs in rock radio history and regarded by many as one of the best rock songs ever (and is still a staple on classic rock stations). It is also a very hard song to dance to and is amusing to watch people try.

God bless ya Sushi. I am an old guy and remember when this came out. I was not a nice guy when I came back from overseas. Too much trauma and pain that I did not deal well with it. I became "comfortably numb". I guess we all do in some manner. Better now for getting help and finding people who understand. Plus, I now know why I was supposed to make it back. I had a life to live, good to do, and a family to start. Thanks for sharing!!

@@davidcammilleri5526 I have never seen Led Zepplin live and would have been disappointed if I did, I would rather listen to the studio version any day over the live versions, I am OCD when I listen to music from a studio album and I expect it to be the same live, I have seen only Black Sabbath, A/C D/C and Dire Straights live and they all sounded the same as their studio recordings. I have seen a couple of other bands that are classed as very good Pub bands and they were very good too.

Been a fan of Zeppelin for about 50 years now. As a kid in high school I had THE poster of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page from this concert on my bedroom wall, along side of the 2 posters that came in Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album right next to the castle on the hill blacklight poster.
I'm a fan of Life performances but I actually wish you would have listened to the studio album version
The drums are better in studio but that's about it. IMO this is the definitive version.

Saw them in concert in 1977 at the Seattle King Dome. 3 1/2 hours of Led Zeppelin! It was a blast!! Unfortunately it was one of their last concert in the US.

A few others have noted this, the concert was from 1973. They performed three nights at Madison Square Garden with footage from all three shows being used. In addition, there was re-created footage later shot on a soundstage with the bassist wearing a wig because he had cut his hair. The band was unhappy with the concert, and the film wouldn't be released until 1976. Mainly, because singer Robert Plant and his wife had been in a car accident, and the band's manager wanted to keep the group's momentum going while Plant recovered.
