Had my Polestar2 standard range two years, and he is spot on with gripes of cup holder and adjusting heater. That said, I love the car, it's comfortable and the one pedal drive is easy and intuitive. I can drive 40 miles to work without touching the break, whilst asking google to play tuned off spotify.
I think the Google assistant in the new Volvo’s are really good at changing car settings. I have a hit rate of almost 100% in the EX30, especially with the HVAC temp / fan settings.
Unfortunately, estate customers are only a few and far between. They are certainly not a market that makes any business sense for a struggling manufacturer like Volvo. They can only make cars that sell in large enough numbers to make profit.
Honestly the best deal I've seen are launch edition Polestar 2s which were lease returns. I've seen many in the Americas fully loaded with AWD going for $30k with as little as 10,000 miles Range might be less, but so is the price(which is the reason i bought one)
Reason why they are cheap is because no one wants it. They are Uber expensive to maintain due to lack of parts and poor quality control. It doesn’t help there are rumors they will go bankrupt good luck getting OTA updates after that.
I think it’s quite an open secret that most companies have to charge horrendous prices for EV’s to try and break even let alone in the loss. I’m sure you will have happy driving and it’s a personal choice on what cars we all choose. 👌🏼
@@Jeez001What are you on about? I haven't heard a single complaint about Polestar having "poor quality control." Plus many parts are shared with Volvo and are not hard to obtain
I had a launch edition dual motor with the performance pack for 18 months and 15k miles and I really liked it (and still miss it). The Google system is way better than you think once you get into it. Everyone moans about the cup-holders but it isn’t a deal breaker. I can also confirm that the performance pack suspension is way better at soaking up the bumps than the regular suspension - but it’s expensive. I would quite happily have another one.
Cupholders doesn't bother me so far. I use a solid metal cup with a tight lid. Either you keep your arm to the side of it (paper cups), or you can rest on top of the lid (metal cup). Bottles can fit in the door.
Awesome video! One of the best I've seen since a while. Interesting car, objective opinions, Rorys funny remarks and cool music! I enjoyed it a lot! AutoTrader is becoming slowly but steady my favorite car channel on YT!
So glad I saw this video, was starting to get cold feet as have one on order for end of Feb. This video has completely turned me around (bar cup holder). Car aside, what a great presenter - well done!
One of the best looking EVs out there. Was fortunate to have one for 3 days last summer. Fantastic car. For me lack of space in the back and boot is what let it down. I’m 6”2 and very little legroom behind my seat. I agree with other comments that they’ve missed a trick by not making an estate version
Yep, that reflects my thoughts on the Polestar. I really wanted to like it but rear head and legroom just let it down for me. I ended up with a Tesla and an happy with my choice but every time I see a Polestar it is with a feeling of regret about what a near miss it is.
@@stephenclutton the boot opening on the model 3 is too small for me, and the model y was too expensive on my lease options, have saved some £££ and ordered a Kona…
I actually loved the old black grill looking thing it used to have! I love those kind of chunky details especially with the boxy shape. So randomly I don't like the look of the new model with the flat front, even though it's more aerodynamic and has the sensors in... 🤷♂
Always like Rorys reviews. I stopped watching top gear after they let him go. I got the MY24 model back in August. Has been a great 6 months. Only things i dont like are cupholders and a aggressive rear collision emergency break which turns on when i reverse into our driveway. Air vents haven't been an issue, car warms up quickly even on very cold days.
Great comment. I’m buyin this car next. The cup holder I thought about also when test drove it. But can’t be something to be annoyed about. You only drink when you got control on the road so not so hard to grab the drink. Good day and enjoy this amazing car.
Brilliant review as ever. Why didn’t TV get you and Johnny Smith together as the dream team? Fantastic efficiency. I would never use a car that allows google access to my data.
This car has been reviewed a hundred times, and it's refreshing to see new points delivered. Ironically, it's been tested that the Performance Pack suspension is even harder than the standard version. Giddy up!
@@bitcoinman9202 Usually adjustable suspension allows user to be granted a range - I would imagine the softer setting being more comfortable than the standard version; but I hear that isn't the case (I haven't tried it to confirm).
@@bitcoinman9202 The irony is that you pay more for a system for more customization and you end up with something more stiffer. Performance doesn't mean stiffer.
done 21k miles in our Launch edition, am surprised the storage/cup holder area hasn't been revised yet. Still a regular annoyance when you have a passenger and trying to sort out several drinks if we're using the arm rest. Vents aren't a big deal really - the heated seats and steering wheel work well so you don't really need to be heating the cabin or the people inside it with hot air. My understanding is its more efficient to run heated seats than heat a whole cabin. Definately need the pilot pack for adaptive cruise control and the pixel lights so factor in an extra 2k. Panoramic roof makes the whole inside very light and airy in ours but at 4k its very expensive for the plus pack. Definately spoiled with the launch edition pricing and all the toys included - As much as we've enjoyed our time with our 2 launch edition, its not a slam dunk that we'd be getting another Polestar when it comes to replace ours.
Guys I’m from Africa,,Kenya to be specific I would like you to review a Kenyan made car known as Mobius just to show people also we Africans are capable of doing it
The complaint about having to go into the menu to set heating and cooling settings isn't accurate. All you have to do is tell the Google Assistant to set the temperature and fan how you want it. You dont have to go into the settings at all. The cupholders truly suck.
I had a Launch Edition Polestar 2 for 3 years - it was great car ! Agree on the cup holders - I had a couple more 3D printed to slot into the glove box close lid section, which worked very well. Downsides for me - Limited rear leg room for larger children / adults - No rear wiper
@@jano6940 More than likely. Small world it seems sometimes. When I first arrived at the base, everyone recommended that I live in, Newmarket. However, I chose to live in the tiny village of, Littleport, in East Cambridgeshire. A slightly longer commute, however, the welcoming people in the community made up for that. Like you, these videos bring nostalgia.
Just ordered a LRAWD, chose it for the folliwing reasons: - £9000 off + 0% mean that it's cheaper in the real world monthly than anything else in the same class - Styling - Range - Customer experience from Polestar - Stock vehicle that matched my spec means fast delivery There are gripes and niggles and issues, but when you can drive something that looks and drives this well for less than a Hyundai Ioniq 5 / EV6 / Enyaq / Ariya (with similar options & spec), its a no-brainer for me. You mentioned the ride quality, its still better than a Tesla. Test drove a Y (3 no good due to dog) and wow is that a bone shaker.
Got that car last Nov, so far it’s great. Probably the best car I’ve had so far (that includes BMW, Volvo, Audi). Sure it has some drawbacks like that cupholder situation and it is little cramped inside etc. but if you get a good deal on it, it’s totally worth it.
I had to choose my company car recently, got down to 3 options, Model 3, i4 or Polestar 2. Tesla won in every category apart from turn signals...but still won by far. Most efficient Best driving feel Best tech Best charging Supporting the company doing the most to make the future better
I drive a Highland and agree with your statements. I did like the BMW better subjectively, but it was significantly more expensive. And the driver assists in the Tesla is not near as good as in BMW, Mercedes or VW. They drive me crazy to the point where I just dont bother using them anymore. But I love the Tesla a bit more every day - it is just a nice car to drive.
@@christianolsen9781 Yeah, who knows when Tesla will update their self driving technology in Europe. FSD in the US has become so advanced now, such that you'd think autopilot in Europe would be a breeze to fix, but maybe not. It's a real missed opportunity, given Teslas obvious lead in such tech. Maybe it's a EU regulation thing? Who knows.
I've been driving my P2 for just under 2 years now. Rory really nailed the good and the bad, which explains why I am in the paradoxical situation of loving the car but not wanting to lease another one when my current lease is up.
@@shush2000 The main improvement is the ride quality, which is now immensely better. It's also a bit quieter. If you listen to a lot of music whilst driving, you'll find that Tesla's sound system is one of the best. And for what it's worth, I think most Teslas in the last 2 years have had pretty good build quality.
I own a P2. Have owned one for 2 years. There are many reasons to prefer, or buy one EV over another. I’ve never given any merit to reviews that say car X has 30 miles longer range than car Y. Or that car Y has more interior room than car X. Most of these stats are similar enough that the only reason I bought the Polestar was because is has utility, while still looking gorgeous. It doesn’t look like anything else on the road. period.
The cup holders are for cups, smaller coffee cups with lids. Bigger bottles go in the doors, which is why the bottle holders are there. A driver shouldnt be drinking anything whilst driving anyway. Have never put a bottle into a cup holder in a centre console in any of my cars. The 2 vents situated above the info screen work fine with air flow onto the front seat driver/passenger and it doesnt all just go up into the air above them.
@@harowerks44 I have got a 3D printed cupholders with 2 cup in each door. It works 100% in my MY24 LRSM Polestar. That is the best EV or car I ever had untill now
As a current owner, the point about the hvac controls was overly exaggerated- you showed the only screen on the system where the controls are not down at the bottom of the screen at all times (even watching TH-cam or Amazon prime they are shown). Given most people set their system to auto, the only thing to have to do is adjust the temperature - something that’s easily done on the screen or by saying “hey Google set driver temperature to 22 degrees”, for example. The position of the centre vents is also a non-issue if left in auto setting - it circulates air around the car adequately. The only negative thing I’d agree with in that review is that is is a harder ride than some may like, but I’ve always preferred a stiffer over softer setup. I wish reviews would stop trying to compare the Tesla and Polestar - you get the one that works for you… both have good and bad points and both are good cars. For me, I wanted the more traditional interior and the Google Based system is only appreciated once you start using it for more than just daft questions like the elephant one. I also prefer the looks, but that’s subjective.
I have to agree. I love Rory but I'm tired of everything EV compared to the Model 3 or Model Y. Polestar advertises and markets comparison to Porsche and rarely talk about Tesla. They didn't seem to make the Polestar 2 to compete with the Model 3. They actually took what was designed to be the Volvo S40 and made it a sports sedan/hatch and in turn, made it the entry-model Polestar. Also, Polestar isn't going for volume sales which clearly Tesla is. Any company that talks about 20 million cars sold annually must be going for volume.
Great comment. I got the Tesla 3 and have had it for 2 years. But I have test drived the polestar many times. And this newest model is amazing. I’m buying it next. Enjoy❤
As owner, the cup holder is indeed atrocious. But we never had problem with the climate control or vent since the car does such a good job we have never had to mess with it. But Rory is on-point about the heated steering wheel!! On freezing days the steering wheel heats up in NO TIME and you can feel the warmth through your gloves. This is the first car we've driven that has THREE different heating level for the steering wheel... and it's WONDERFUL. You don't know what you are missing until you experience it... I would trade our Audi SQ8 for another P2 for just that feature. It's life changing! 😂
I like the PS2 looks a lot better then the TM3 Highland I ended up getting instead, but in the end it came down to TM3 being more comfortable (better suspension and sound proofing), more spacious in the cabin by some margin and hugely more efficient in real driving. Driving same route the difference was enough that the 60kwh Tesla SR would get same range as PS2 LR 82kwh battery on 100% charge. Even with the very cold Winter we had I am getting 18.5 kwh/100km from mostly 110-130kmh driving which is quite mind-blowing.
How's the model 3 highland treating you? Ive been steadily seeing more of them in Denmark, but never found the time to be in one. Looking at the EV Database tested stats, despite lower official range, the model 3 highland gets better efficiency and therefore better range than the new Polestar. But regarding the looks, i think it has more to do with which car is standard on the road, and which is unique. PS2 is still rare enough.
The Highland rwd is quicker and cheaper too. It’s not on the converted ICE car platform of the PS2 and the Model 3 has a lower drag coefficient so it makes sense that it’s more efficient.
Polestar 2 wasn't really intended to take on the Tesla Model 3. It was the "affordable" other car for Polestar but Polestar needs to get the 3 and 4 out. They don't have the cupholder issue or vent issue. I've driven the Poelstar 2 with regular suspension over bad New Jersey bumps and it rode well. It's very solidly built, something I think is a standout.
Heated steering wheel is so underrated, best thing for people with cold hands. Ive got a volvo xc60 and its the same heat strength. Would never buy a car without it.
The lease on my 2021 Model 3 is up soon and I’m honestly thinking of getting the new Polestar 3. The new Model 3 is a big improvement on the old one but when you sit in it…well, it’s practically the same interior…but without stalks 🤦♂️ And the leasing rates, at least here in Germany, are pretty bad. Polestar OTOH has some great leasing conditions right now. Very, very tempting indeed 🧐
Congrats. I hope it's treating you well. Just a heads up- be wary of a potential looming bankruptcy from polestar. The largest swedish bank recently down valued it to zero, effectively stating that they believe the company will disappear soon. Similar sentiment is shared by others. Id suggest you look into the contract, and what will happen to your warranty and service options if they go bankrupt. Presumably you'd expect volvo to take car of it, but who knows. Polestar will become a liability for them.
I had the last gen 2023 build for a few hours myself o play with. Brilliant Car, so comfy and easy to drive and effortless power on tap. Thing is the Car came in at £53k as it had all the kit. Same Car 3000 miles on the clock now six months old £32k. That’s a serious hit even when a new gen was about to drop. Sales guy was honest enough to say ont buy this gen next is out soon. And then I seen the EX30 and thought hats better and now seeing the EX in the flesh at a dealer with the car on tour it suits me better but sadly still £38k. Last car was bought factory ordered and will be ten years old in April but still drives and looks like new so no rush changing to a EV. Plan second hand EX30 six months old as they will be a good deal.
It was meant to be a Volvo with a different dash. Polestar modified it but they just got those details wrong. Polestar 3 and 4 are much improved on the interior.
I've never had a screen responsivity issue and I find the basic climate controls quite intuitive and far less fussy than in similar Teslas, Volkswagens and the likes. Also, AC should never blow into your face. It's for regulating climate, not for creating a breeze. The cupholders are indeed terrible and visibility in the back is subpar, so spec the 360 camera. I have a Dual motor but the RWD single motor is a more sensible purchase if you don't have to deal with harsher climates and potential traction issues. Oh, and the BMW i4 is a lot more expensive in Belgium.
For an electric car of that length, why the heck are the back seats so cramped...and for the cost, why is it so badly laid out in the front? Oh, and manufacturers need to stop putting the commonly used functions in the screen, no one wants it, everyone complains about it (apart from Tesla fanboys) stop it...give us a simple row of buttons for heating, aircon and volume...you can still make it look futuristic, like in the new Kia models.
Can’t believe they didn’t improve the cup holder from the first version. I rented the first from LHR and as a Tesla Model 3 owner, the cup holder situation was honestly one of the biggest annoyance 😂
Great video of the polestar 2 mk 2, but you didn’t fold the Brompton correctly. The handlebars ended up in the middle rather than the outside so it wasn’t as compact.
I was hoping this car wouldn’t be so awkward to live with. Who would have thought that the cup holders, air vents, gear tunnel, and suspension would be the deal breakers to dream of a Tesla with less range. They have got to get these things taken care of if they are going to be more expensive because the new highland model 3 is tough to beat.
Actually, in real world range, Model 3 Long Range (Highland) gets slightly more. Its tested efficiency is 150 Wh/km vs Polestars new 168 Wh/km. That being said, if you don't want a Tesla, it isn't a bad alternative. Or, you could get the other Chinese car, the BYD Seal. Who would have know in 2014 that just 10 years later, top contenders in the automotive world are a new American startup, and 2 new Chinese car companies. Oh how times have changed...
I wouldn’t discount the Korean brands - the Kia EV6, Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60 what they lack in range (and 321 miles is not to be sniffed at) they make up in 800 v architecture and charging speed and have none of the fundamental compromises - choose your length of vehicle for rear seat and boot exuberance the 432L boot space of the 4.515m GV60 might not be enough for a family of four into camping, so there’s the longer Ioniq 5 4.635m with 588L or the longer still EV6 4.680m 572L. All have a usable button/knobs HVAC system , Proper ipedal with fully adjustable regenerative braking, HUD and configurable comfort options all the way through to ventilated front seats, self parking and HDA2 ( auto lane change). 18 months on I haven’t seen a vehicle more compelling than my choice of the GV60 RWD as a comfortable, practical, high tech, ergonomic, aesthetically pleasing, road tripping, small family car. A premium yes but a degree of future proofing ( OTA updates to firmware, large 77kWh battery, 800v architecture, bespoke platform ) but well worth it. Let’s not forget however it’s still early adopters territory for EVs -economies of scale, manufacturing and battery tech improvements and a second hand market will bring prices down. In the absence of a wind fall or cash to burn my advice is lease for the next few years and re-visit committing to a purchase after that. The choice now is great but be mindful of the lower end of the market which are obsolete already - slow peak charging speeds, no or limited OTA and compromised ICE converted chassis!
Curious as to why you never mentioned the Google AI features? I test drove this vehicle recently and didn't have to adjust the temperature manually because I just told Google to lower it or raise it to the exact temperature.
If I have a front wheel drive car, with engine at the front, when I accelerate why would the front go up? Most weight (engine) is at the front, pushing the front down, only front wheels spin so I get the most out of it.
Prices might vary depending on where you are, but at least in Finland Polestar 2 is way more expensive than Model 3. In that sense it’s a more direct comparison with likes of VW ID.7 and some of the BMWs (if I remember right). Model 3 at the moment is way better value for money.
Yeah. Right now, in the United Kingdom, the polestar is £1k cheaper, but in the rest of Europe (key markets) is anywhere from €2k-6k more expensive. It'll be interesting to see where Polestar will sit. The car is basically a wannabe Model 3, but with a Volvo exterior styling. The company doesn't seem to be able to grow marketshare, almost falling in year over year sales last year. (6% growth) But simultaneously, if it wants to compete in the higher tier market, how can it have worse performance, comfort, range, software and sound isolation than the model 3. So right now, it's just a model 3 for those who don't want a Tesla. Let's see how polestar performs. After all, its Chinese, so it should be able to compete.
My family owns two Volvos, one being the C40 electric and the screens did go unresponsive during the first few months. I think there was a weird time where any sound (alert or music or literally anything) was muted and we had to hard reset the car for it to resolve but those issues don’t happen or atleast not that often anymore. Thankfully they are leases 😭
Turns out making a Tesla software system isn't as easy as people though. 😅 Hope it's working for your family now. All i wish for is that it didn't hider their view on EVs.
It’s a very good car! Only thing of concern for me is the dealerships. Where are they? I live in the West Midlands, and do believe there’s one in Birmingham and that’s it! I know everythings done on line these days, but I think you still need a dealer, somewhere to take it for warranty servicing or if anything goes. wrong with it
FULLY agree on the 20" wheels: I test drove the PS2 with both 19" and 20" and the 20" wheels make it a pretty terrible ride whereas the 19" feel great and made me order the PS2 long rage single motor
Wow that's a fantastic option. I got my volvo xc40 recharge March 2023 and that was 52k with considerably less range and a second slower 0-60! Its crazy how fast things are going I can't imagine what will be available from volvo/polestar when my lease is up.
When most EVs on the market reach 400-500 miles range, it will be more appealing to switch from ICE for many more people. In the beginning, most early adopters thought 200-250 miles range would be enough but people forgot about many factors like cold temperatures performance, battery degradation, phantom drainage, etc.
It's actually more important to have improved charging infrastructure, rather than carrying a large and heavy battery pack that isn't needed regularly by most people.
In the UK cold weather isn't really a problem It rarely goes below zero C. So far my P2 battery at 30K miles is just like new, phantom drainage isn't a "thing", any car that does that has a problem.
Excellent and accurate review. I have leased my Polestar 2 Performance AWD for two years and all of the annoyances you mentioned are spot on. The car interior is about style but function isn't the best. I find the backseat basically unusable for adults, which for me is ok since I am generally to sole passenger. In all, I will be happy to turn it in (low resale value in the U.S. makes a lease buyout a no-go) and will probably go with the Highland updated Model 3 or an EX30 to replace it...by the way, almost everything, including the climate control system can be operated via Google voice commands so I never hunt through the screen for that...
May I ask how a car lease works in the states. I can't imagine is much different from the uk, but who knows. Example (made up figures) Polestar 3 year lease, 10'000 miles a year. £3800 down and £600 am month, road tax is included in the price. Insurance and vechicle maintenance is down to you and your £££ Once the lease is up you can hand the car back (with reasonable wear and tear) or purchase it out right for the figure agreed at the start of the lease (the residual value at 3 years old) If the car is worth less you are not out of pocket, if the car is worth more, you get the difference.?
It is understandable why there is a push for the development of driverless cars. They could potentially provide a solution to the challenges of navigating narrow B roads at high speeds while simultaneously adjusting the heating system.
@sebastianorye2702 Please refrain from sharing this information with Joe Biden, as it could potentially lead to the discontinuation of internal combustion engine vehicles.
7:01 think you misread the mileage. The app shows your dynamic range so that’s saying 180miles of range is possible but based on current driving conditions you’re more likely to only get 95miles doing at your current percentage.
@@jasoncaine2600no no, i heard him correctly. He definitely said to double 180 miles to get the full range figure on a full battery - which makes it 360 miles. That figure is if you drive under perfect conditions and have an ‘eco’ foot. He mentions the current conditions and his driving style but no mention of his currently estimated mileage which is 95 that attributes to those factors. Yes, he points at the 95 figure but makes no mention of it. You need to give real world figures, not perfect-condition mileage figures. I also drive a Polestar 2 so know full well the capabilities of the vehicle.
9:05 as I own the car I wanted to point out that this screen you see is a settings page which is not supposed to be used while driving. That 4 tiles screen that you see after hitting the home bar _____ is the one you are supposed to be using while driving. That one or any other app like goggle map, Spotify etc. There the HVAC is shown. So in fact, you picked up the only screen that doesn’t have HVAC in the whole car OS to make a statement that HVAC is a disaster. Oh and why hitting the vent button since it’s in automatic position by default so you don’t often need to change it. In fact I find it much better than the Tesla model 3 I tested. Where I couldn’t even find how to use it when I first entered the car. At least here it’s intuitive. Oh and by the way crashing into the car in front of you is just impossible since you have the automatic obstacle breaking 😊. So the car would break for you 😂. What is a disaster instead is indeed the cup holder but honestly. I have never used the cup holders on any of the car I owned. The cup holder inside the arm rest is removable so if you do so you not only solve the cup holder problem but also have plenty of storage. And for the second one I use it for keys and garage bow remote control. Never understood why so many UK and USA people are so obsessed with cup holders. I just use the door bottle holder place. Same goes for central Tunnel. Yes it’s there as it has been for a century. Not a big deal for me. And inside they have put some batteries. Vents positioning. Yes it’s high but at lest they are there (unlike in other brands) and you can control the flow. If you do so the air would go just in your face where it is supposed to go. The voice command is actually google AI assistant. It’s not a voice command. Yes BMW i4 is just an amazing car 😊 Cheers 👋
Heads up. Just out of a meeting today, Volvo WON'T be honouring Polestar warranties, at the moment at least, good car, long term gamble bigtime! Would you back a horse with no legs?....probably not!
Car cup holders have gained ridiculous and exaggerated importance when judging a car. Do these people really think what is really important. I understand if you're a truck driver and you regularly drive long hours, but this hardly would be their number one choice. Or they really could not find anything else to complain about the car itself. Nice car though...
Currently in ‘£50k / LRSM’ review mode, for me I’m looking at this PS2 (probably on 19s) v ID7. VW is notably bigger, and it’ll be interesting to see how it’s first real-world tests look. But PS2 certainly looks better and has maybe nicer interior and software, though it does concede space against ID7. Choices choices eh? Maybe EV6 might still be way to go?
I've driven both. Very different cars. The ID7 is a soft, comfy car at its best on motorways/freeways and wallowy and too big on twisty roads. Great if you do 2/300 miles a day om motorways and want bags of room = its enormous. The P2 is a drivers car, repsonsive, good handling and sporty but restricted space in back and at its best on twisty roads. From reviews p2 is far more relaible especially on the IT side where VW still have issues. Don't get me wromg I liked the ID 7 and most comfortable EV I have driven but didn't suit my needs. Main tip don't get 20" or bigger wheels on p2 thats when it gets uncomfortable. On 19" its great.
Does every EV review have to include "Tesla Model 3" to appease The Algorithm? This car doesn't _Swedish_ properly -- the ergonomics and interior design should be nigh on perfect. I'd probably just stick with MG or BYD.
Back in 2022 I got a Polestar 2 on lease, and it was the worst value for money car I have ever had. I had it a whole six hours before I formally requested to return it to my lease company. Yeah, it was fast... in fact, I could count on one hand how many positive attributes the car had... and a novel about the bad stuff. From an infotainment screen that needed rebooted every two days or else it would freeze, reverse sensors that would slam on all brakes without warning or without good reason, or the fact that the car I was given had adaptive cruise control buttons labelled on the steering wheel yet did not have ACC fitted! What a death trap! All in all, I got rid of it as soon as I could and luckily managed to get out of my lease early thank goodness. I hope the "New" Polestar 2 is better than the old one, because what I got was absolutely garbage and a total misallocation of money. Just to be clear, I loved not visting petrol stations. I loved charging at home, and I loved the electric part. What I hated were all functions of the car that didn't work, all things that should have been working that have been part of standard ICE cars for decades. My Polestar 2 was nothing more than an electric Ariel Atom... very fast with zero creature comforts.
After driving my Model Sm I really wanted to like the Polestar 2 instead of adding a Model 3. I test drove both a number of times. The Polestar looks much better and is a hatch, but the interior, whilst looking awesome and definitely better than the Model 3, it’s a let down in terms of functionality, it’s tight and pokey, that centre console is absolutely unnecessary and you will bump into it continuously, the cup holders, the frunk, the upright rear seats and the hump in the middle. Volvo really need to better. Fortunately the EX30 shows they can, unfortunately the Polestar 3 is way too expensive.
The ventilation is designed to heat the cabin and keep moisture away from the windows in a good way, not blow into your face while you're driving. Why would anyone want that?
Super hot steering wheel a “feature”? It’s a missing temperature sensor. With it the car could keep the steering wheel on a nice “warm” or “hot” without scalding your fingers.
89’ 240 owner here. Nice to know theyve kept true to thier roots. No cup holders
Must be a peeve.
Rory Reid, you have no equal, my man. I give respect 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Had my Polestar2 standard range two years, and he is spot on with gripes of cup holder and adjusting heater. That said, I love the car, it's comfortable and the one pedal drive is easy and intuitive. Amazing. I’m gettin the polestar soon. I got Tesla at the moment. But it’s time to upgrade 😈✔️
@@andreasl4507 what is your opinion after changing from a Tesla to the Polestar!
I think the Google assistant in the new Volvo’s are really good at changing car settings. I have a hit rate of almost 100% in the EX30, especially with the HVAC temp / fan settings.
I much prefer Rory’s reviews than that of other channels. No pathetic sexual innuendo every 5 seconds, instead just does really good reviews.

I've seen many in the Americas fully loaded with AWD going for $30k with as little as 10,000 miles
Range might be less, but so is the price(which is the reason i bought one)
Same here 👌🏾
Reason why they are cheap is because no one wants it. They are Uber expensive to maintain due to lack of parts and poor quality control. It doesn’t help there are rumors they will go bankrupt good luck getting OTA updates after that.
@@Jeez001 What poor quality control? And they share many parts with the Volvo XC40 and C40.
I've seen several Polestars on the road...they have an aura.
Everyone I've asked, said they love their Polestar!
Just drove this car at the showroom, and couldn't agree more with Rory. So sensible as usual. I'm eyeing the BMW i4 as well
I had a launch edition dual motor with the performance pack for 18 months and 15k miles and I really liked it (and still miss it).
Awesome review. Had our P2 LRSM since 2023 it's our first EV and zero regrets. We are based West Devon ❤
Awesome video! One of the best I've seen since a while. Interesting car, objective opinions, Rorys funny remarks and cool music! I enjoyed it a lot! AutoTrader is becoming slowly but steady my favorite car channel on YT!
Best car I have seen. I got the Tesla 3 at the moment!! I’m buying this polestar as my next car!!
So glad I saw this video, was starting to get cold feet as have one on order for end of Feb. This video has completely turned me around (bar cup holder). Car aside, what a great presenter - well done!
I’m buying this one next. Amazing car!!!!
It's a great car. Got mine last week. And yes, the cupholder is a bt stupid, but the rest of the car is ace.
The cup holder bit was comedy gold. I laughed hard.

Wow, same thing about the aggressive emergency stop. Happens with our volvo xc90 23

This car has been reviewed a hundred times, and it's refreshing to see new points delivered. Ironically, it's been tested that the Performance Pack suspension is even harder than the standard version. Giddy up!
It can be adjusted though. Get the performance and set those Öhlins to full soft
@@_shreyash_anand true, but it is manual adjustment of each shock. So not something you shift back and forth.
Why is that ironic aren’t perf models usually stiffer

Got that car last Nov, so far it’s great. Probably the best car I’ve had so far (that includes BMW, Volvo, Audi). Sure it has some drawbacks like that cupholder situation and it is little cramped inside etc. but if you get a good deal on it, it’s totally worth it.
Feels and drives just like a Volvo, because that is essentially what it is. It's just sportier.

You can get 3D printed cupholders to put in the doors with 2 cupholders each
I like the PS2 looks a lot better then the TM3 Highland I ended up getting instead, but in the end it came down to TM3 being more comfortable (better suspension and sound proofing), more spacious in the cabin by some margin and hugely more efficient in real driving.
Tesla doesn't give you the real numbers. If you do the math they use a lot more juice than it tells you.
Affordable to whom - the 1%. Me on the average salary would be looking in to cars way under half this price and even then that’s a big expense.
Heated steering wheel is so underrated, best thing for people with cold hands. Ive got a volvo xc60 and its the same heat strength. Would never buy a car without it.

Don’t get the issue with the cup holder armrest, shouldn’t you have both hands on the steering wheel at all times anyway ;)
No, that's really not necessary as long as you are attentive.

Would have one over a Model 3 all day long. Looks decent for start!
The white leather seats looks awesome.

Most weight (engine) is at the front, pushing the front down, only front wheels spin so I get the most out of it.
google weight transfer under acceleration.
(6% growth)
But simultaneously, if it wants to compete in the higher tier market, how can it have worse performance, comfort, range, software and sound isolation than the model 3.
Hope it's working for your family now. All i wish for is that it didn't hider their view on EVs.
It’s a very good car! Only thing of concern for me is the dealerships. Where are they? I live in the West Midlands, and do believe there’s one in Birmingham and that’s it! I know everythings done on line these days, but I think you still need a dealer, somewhere to take it for warranty servicing or if anything goes. wrong with it
It's sold on a no-haggle basis so no dealerships but for servicing you can use your nearest Volvo garage.
Volvo S60R/V70R w/ 4C Suspension & AWD would soften the rear shocks on hard launch to help improve acceleration by allowing squat at the rear.
FULLY agree on the 20" wheels: I test drove the PS2 with both 19" and 20" and the 20" wheels make it a pretty terrible ride whereas the 19" feel great and made me order the PS2 long rage single motor
If the motor is in the rear, why does it have a transmission tunnel?
Do you know if that colour is magnesium or sno?
The jacked up profile is vaguely reminiscent of the old AMC Eagle. For you UK or younger N.American viewers, it’s what’s known as a 4x4 abomination.
Wow that's a fantastic option. I got my volvo xc40 recharge March 2023 and that was 52k with considerably less range and a second slower 0-60! Its crazy how fast things are going I can't imagine what will be available from volvo/polestar when my lease is up.
You probably have the old xc40 recharge. The new xc40 looks the same but has almost as much range as this car
Did yu not try voice commands for the heating and AC?
How many kW can it accept while charging? How fast does it charge ?
Can't beat the brits in car reviews and humour!
Example (made up figures)
Polestar
3 year lease, 10'000 miles a year.
£3800 down and £600 am month, road tax is included in the price.
Insurance and vechicle maintenance is down to you and your £££
Once the lease is up you can hand the car back (with reasonable wear and tear) or purchase it out right for the figure agreed at the start of the lease (the residual value at 3 years old)
If the car is worth less you are not out of pocket, if the car is worth more, you get the difference.?
You made a right hash of that Brompton fold!
It is understandable why there is a push for the development of driverless cars. They could potentially provide a solution to the challenges of navigating narrow B roads at high speeds while simultaneously adjusting the heating system.
You've found the real reason😆

Excellent range though.
Can someone explain to me why this car has a transmission tunnel?
It’s based on an old ICE chassis- Geely groups petrol-powered Volvo XC40 - hence the presence of a tunnel.
7:01 think you misread the mileage. The app shows your dynamic range so that’s saying 180miles of range is possible but based on current driving conditions you’re more likely to only get 95miles doing at your current percentage.
Agreed, and those "guess o meters" are very unreliable, Tesla was caught overestimating range remaining and had to adjust accordingly.
You missed heard him. That's exactly what he said 🤷♂️
@@jasoncaine2600no no, i heard him correctly.
Yes BMW i4 is just an amazing car 😊
Cheers 👋
Motor, battery, controller for bike is circa £500. so the bike is worth?
Very informative and entertaining. More Rory, pllease.
Heads up. Just out of a meeting today, Volvo WON'T be honouring Polestar warranties, at the moment at least, good car, long term gamble bigtime! Would you back a horse with no legs?....probably not!
nice video trader
I love the car. I have the dual motor and the car turns heads. It's extremely fast and nimble also.
The movie “Crazy But Good” swear down I deserve a prize. Bonus point Dudley Moore
“Crazy People” 👍🏻
Does the google assistant control the heating etc?
Yes. It’s a very natural speak system. Some journalist applaud it as the best voice implementation to date.
Great car, loved Dudley Moore.
Comfy seats I've ever sat on were in a volvo c30. Handled well too.
If by 400 miles you mean less than 320 miles then yes. It's not even close to 400 so let's not call it that.
With it the car could keep the steering wheel on a nice “warm” or “hot” without scalding your fingers.
it can. Three level setting. If omly journalists actually read the manual.
I agree, he doe’s a great job and I like to watch him 🎉
Rory was fantastic on Top Gear and it's great to see him thriving here.
They need to fix the steering ratio and interior layout (too cramped with too little storage), but good to see improvements nonetheless.
