The Tuplolev 154M, the air-cooled Porsche 911 of the skies. Tough, tail heavy, fabulous acceleration, one of the fastest things around, interesting handling, beautiful sound, total charisma, damn useful in snowy conditions and an eternal classic.
The ever best aeroplanes in the world.😍😍😍 The nice sound of the engine reminds me on my happy childhood, when we went on holidays with these miracle machines... Very sad, that most of them ended up as scrap iron for nowadays ☹️

My all time favorite airliner!
Some great footage here. The Estonian is a personal favourite. I flew on LZ-HMQ and LZ-HMW from MAN-PDV back in February 2006 on a skiing holiday with Balkan Holidays. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. I'll never forget the tone of the engines, the noise of the reverse thrust, the steepness of the initial climb-out, and the condensation running in through the window of the overwing emergency exit on our descent into MAN! Great memories, although I must confess to never fully relaxing while on board 😅
I'm as American as it's possible to be but I am a fan of those Russian jet engines. They make the best noise. Thanks for a great video.

I have flown on TU 134, TU 154, IL 18, IL 86, AN 24. All those soviet masterpieces where genuine airplanes to fly. Not necesary comfortable but reliable!

I am, tonight, a current and qualified Boeing 727 flight engineer for a large cargo airline in the United States.
At a previous company, I flew all three seats of the cockpit, and I spent over 1000 hours and more than two years as CAPTAIN of this Boeing aircraft.
I want to tell you that I enjoy looking at the Soviet copy of the 727, and I wish I had a chance to fly the copy so that I could talk about the differences. The Tu-154 certainly sounds different!

Back in the old CCCP days I flew this type in 1986 from Moscow to Rostov on Don, and in 1989 from Moscow to Leningrad ( St. Petersburg ) and aside from the cabin that was not very pretty, the flights themselves were absolutely beautiful and very much enjoyable, I would fly this airplane anywhere, anytime, actually liked it better than the B727!

Nice video! Impressive climb outs! I'd like to see a video a the ground gear retraction cycle at a maintenance facility. Looks so complex to fold the wheel truck back, and then retract back too. That, plus the wide wheel track, and the full wing slats makes this airplane a beauty, plus the in-flight reversers (other than the DC8) make this a very unique airplane. Just love how it looks.
Weird; I feel so lucky to have flown in one in 1988. What an experience for an American. BTW, it was with Polish LOT airways.

Flew in one of these a while back,just before the twin towers, Gatwick to Bulgaria.
The acceleration at take off was unreal, I felt myself sinking into the seat big time !!!
Toilet seats were made of wood and the inflight meal came covered in cling film.
Cockpit, which we we're allowed into, was all dials no screens.
Flight was very smooth, great landing, barley a bump as we touched down, air stewards were still pouring drinks during the approach and strapped themselves into their seats 30 seconds before we landed which was a bit weird!!

Yep , flown on Tu 154 ten times and boy are they fast on take off! and the rate of climb is awesome, sometimes the pilots like/ need to land them like pianos on short runways! superb aircraft.

Unique design, unique sound, unique flight characteristics, and unique safety record, nothing to envy to Boeing, Airbus, MD and Douglas aircrafts, i've never been on one of these but im sure its a completely different experience, just by watching these videos and seeing the soft landings and takeoffs seems to be an enjoyable experience with the big plus of having the sound of a true jet engine! Thank you very much for this compilation.
It is a pretty plane (same for the 727), but it is not comfortable for the passengers. I have taken the Aeroflot TU-154M twice - the cabin is narrow and smelly, and the seats folded up upon landing! (I think they can be folded down to provide space for carrying cargo)? The plane is very powerful at taking off but landing was rough (maybe it is the runway, though).
fernando13e It's not a unique design, it has clearly been copied from the Trident & Boeing 727. As for unique safety record, around 2700 folk have been in these planes. aviation-safety.net/database/types/Tupolev-154/index
I miss this beast of an aircraft visiting EMA. I will never forget trying to service the toilets on it! Nightmare! But what a noise!

Thats because the engines use 1950s jet engine technology. The west ditched them year ago and now use turbo fan which is more efficient.

First of all the engines were Solowjow D-30 engines, produced in the 60s and upgraded within the 60s. They're mostly inspired by JT8D engines (at least the Tu-154's version are). So the Americans also used 50s engines then...

I'm not sure how the 154 rates as the greatest but each to his own. The noise level kept the aircraft out of Western European airports without a hush kit, it was flown by a crew of 4 including an engineer and navigator and the instrumentation was ancient; but it was fast overpowered to handle short runways or unpaved runways and it really does sound cool. My pick for greatest would be the 747 which made non-stop Internatonal travel affordable

I have flown to and from Bulgaria on TY154's and love them,they have much more character than western aircraft ,and the Soloviev turbofans make a great sound too.

Почитай об их тяговооруженности.... Ни одни лайнер ГА не сравнится..... Угробили великолепную машину под предлогами шумности и расхода топлива..... А ведь были и есть готовые двигатели нового поколения... Менеджеры-политики угробили собственный авиапарк машин, которые можно было привести к нынешнем стандартам влегкую ....

...and fact is that a british aviation magazine said that the BHAir's TU5 have the most beautiful livery of all TU5's in the world... :)
Splendid, powerful and beautiful airplane. It takes off almost vertically, reaching the above 1000 ft safer altitude in a few seconds..! Very impressive too is it's great stability and precision during the landing procedure...! It seems it was the Occident's bad commercial practices and lobbies which prevented this plane to fly over Occidental countries...Problems in accidents (not much than the ones with Airbus and Boeing's..) was credited mostly to pilot (human) and maintenance faults....

He flew a Tu154,and he was so excited when he got back.. if you didnt know,the Tu-144 were build and had its first flight before the concorde,so if it is copying we are talking about the concorde is copy of the Tu-144...
