Kuznetsov NK8 engine was seen on Tu-154 and Il-62. Has a metalling "zinging" sound to it, which I find similar to that of AL-31 from a Flanker. Tu-134 has D30 engines, shared with Il-76, that Russians nicknamed "the whistle" thanks to its characteristic high-pitch shriek :D

Me and my girlfriend at the time, October 1989, flew from Sweden to Bangkok with Aeroflot. First step, Stockholm-Moscow, was a pleasant flight....the remaining flights were not....From Moscow we flew to Tashkent where we had two hours stay over, then heading to New Delhi....two hours stop and then finally Bangkok. What type of aircrafts it was I’m not sure but they were noisy as hell. The service onboard was a joke.
But it was cheap....with a capitol C! I think we paid around 200 USD per person for a round trip and back in these days flying was expensive compared to today! One memory that’s stuck in my mind was that one of the flight attendants, a woman, was drinking vodka like it was water!😮 She fell asleep and woke up just in time for landing in Bangkok! True story, fun then but today......
I'm a little surprised that a TU-154 was even given clearance to fly into anchorage. I thought Russian airliners were restricted from entering US airspace because they violated the noise ordnance. If that isn't the case, why don't airlines like TWA, American, Northwest, etc. use planes from Russia?
Jose Coon The TU-154M can fly to Europe and America. For example Guyana Airways flew their TU-154 to New York in the mid 80's, and Belavia had regular TU-154 services to Geneva just a few weeks ago. The reason why they are not used by most airlines today is because of the fuel consumption. Russian planes are extremely heavy.
Marc Liljeqvist that makes sense to me, I didn't know Russian airliners were heavy and burned massive amounts of fuel, which would mean that if US airlines used Russian airliners, they would have to raise airfares to ungodly prices.
Just to be fare, russian planes like the one in the video could be compared to the age of the 707, 727 or 737-200. Remember Russia in the 80s was actually Soviet Union and had a very complicated relationship with the US due to cold war. Russian planes like the Ilyushin 96 or Sukhoi 100 are not heavy or fuel inefficient as all planes used to be. Another example of a good modern plane is the Antonov 148. Boeing and Airbus are the leaders of the industry world wide, but there are lots of manufacturers. Russian planes can be seen in Europe and Asia. Russian planes are not heavier than a Boeing or Airbus if you compare the appropriate age and airplane class.
So it could probably be okay for US airlines to buy used Russian jets, if they replaced the old Russian engines with Rolls Royce or GE to stay within US noise ordnance laws.
Because the USA would not allow it that simple because you think that nobody buys RUSSOS because they do not peremitten the import of spare parts (plot) and all the jets of the 60s made a very strong noise 707 727 dc-8 vc 10s-dc-9s ty154b2 ' '' '' '' '' '' '' '' '' '' 'Pure'
