I will also disagree with you, I have an american MK8 2024 Golf R and in 7 months, i have never once turned on the heated steering wheel by accident or any other buttons on the steering wheel by accident. This car runs amazing. Mine is not laggy, nor do I have any issues with the way it works. If you spend time with the MK8 you would learn how it works. I think the dash looks so much better and intergrated in the MK8. The 8.5 looks awful inside. Driving this car is fantastic and I the infotainment system is fine, Nothing really needed to be fixed. Yeh buttons would have been easier but once you learn the system its pretty great. I getting tired of reviewers driving the car for maybe an hour and don't know how the car works and then complain about it. Please stop knocking this car, it really is a great car.
Most reviewers get the car for at least a week. We have driven many with the older system found in the pre-facelifted Golf. It just wasn't good and we're not sure why you feel the need to pretend it is.
@@BuckleUpShow I don't need to pretend. I don't understand why you keep pushing these myths, are you being paid? Why try to insult me with the word pretend, there are reviewers who disagree with you IE th-cam.com/video/RYZDp94LG80/w-d-xo.html .
Firstly, we don’t get paid and if you stop to think about it for 5 seconds, we’re not sure VW would pay us to say their old car was terrible. We have been to a few events with Volkswizard, including this one, and there’s no doubt he knows what he’s talking about. But by his own admission, the system took time to figure out and learn. That means it’s not easy or intuitive to use. Why don’t you watch his latest video on the new Mk8.5 where he talks about the screen being much better and easier to use.
As someone who had a MK8R for 9 months, and then sold it for a MK7.5R... the MK8 is a great chassis and suspension setup, but the rest of it is awful. The infotainment is years behind anything KIA is putting out, let alone what should be the real competition. The touch buttons are OK on the wheel, in 9 months I switched on the heating steering wheel twice. But... The cardinal sins are the awful heated seat, heating and air con controls that are so unresponsive. They feel like they were designed using a mobile phone from 2005. The build quality is sub par, the doors don't clunk shut like a Golf should, they sound thin and cheap. It's missing a pneumatic bonnet strut, headlight washers, cup holder sliding cover, dials for air con and heat, cornering headlights, memory for the car's mode - sport/R/normal - so you need to change mode every single time you turn the engine off and back on, same for the lane keep assist that is always on and takes 3 button presses to turn it off. That's not to mention all the internal materials feel cheap, including the lack of any sound dampening in the boot fascias. The also don't make a 3 door, so you have to buy what looks like an estate. Even though the dimensions on paper look identical, the Mk8 is noticeably wider. In summary, there's a reason I sold my MK8R and bought a MK7.5, and it was the best decision I made, same engine, same gearbox, fsr superior build quality and technology.
Oh, and the screens in the mk7.5 are BIGGER than the Mk8. The Mk8 has a weird line around it that looks like it was originally made for a bigger dash screen, and they ended up ordering the wrong size, so just filled it in with black. The Mk8.5 tablet looks stupid though. Totally lack of design aesthetic. Just look at someone like KIA and the '24 Sportage dash - that's how you do integrated screens at a 50k price point.
I will also disagree with you that i have an american 380 edition 2024 gti manual pre-face lift car, and in 7 months, i have never once turned on the heated steering wheel by accident. They upgraded the cpu and software, and it runs amazing. You guys stick with one review and dont think they did anything to improve the system. As someone else said, it looks better and more integrated than the 8.5s, even if it's slightly smaller. Mine is not laggy, nor do i have any issues with the way it works. But i also like the 8.5. I just wouldnt give up the last manual gti.
It's good to see most issues fixed. I've used 2022 MK8 for a year and quality was a disaster. Multimedia glitches and enters a reboot cycle most days. Constant rattling sound from the gray part on both front doors.
I have the mk8.5 match ordered, dont get it until roughly late October but i cant wait to get rid of my 2009 corsa thats basically dying more everyday even rjought its got just under 50,000 miles on the clock
The 'Golf' name will be dropped, once all the other models are branded 'ID'. Plus, the steering wheel reverted back to buttons due to the haptic wheels badly integrating with TSA.
The Golf name has been confirmed to stay on by VW CEO Thomas Schäfer. The haptic buttons were changed because of the mountain of terrible feedback from owners and journalists alike. This has also been confirmed directly by VW.
@@BuckleUpShow Of course it has been confirmed by VW as thats what they want you to believe. VW are shit at technical & software design. There are many other manufacturers with haptic buttons (Mercedes) that work perfectly. And yes, one consideration for ditching it WAS the dangerous issue of it, for some reason, interfering with speed assist so rather than actually deal with the problem, they run away from it. The Golfs days are numbered and the name will be quietly dropped some time in the future. Many are complaining more about the lack of proper AC buttons, and come on, who the fuck signed off with the unlit heater controls? Oh yeah, that'll be the CEO as he was hoping everyone would just use voice control to change settings. Well, that didnt work did it? 🤣And all this is coming from a Golf fanboi.
@@niceguy235uk1 You being a Golf fanboy doesn't change the fact that this facelift is an awesome improvement on many fronts and I am excited to see these on the roads.
I still think the mk7 and 7.5 generation will always be perfection, but that’s just my opinion. I feel like it’s faithful to the older generations and keeps everything nice and simple
I must disagree as a Golf 7 2015 user. The suspension was making weird noises since the beginning, headlight lenses covered with some stains (replaced under warranty), audio unit lost bluetooth connection capability, insects got into rear lamps (non removable), rear doors were leaking (disintegrated seals under speakers), driver doors didn't close so smooth as 3 others. But these were minor issues :) I became Golf fanboy and ordered Mk 8.5.
Is the Golf finally back as king of the family hatchbacks?
It looks that way to us!
It was, it is and it always be the King.
It wasn't after the mk7.5!
Definitely back on top of my list. Love the 8.5 GTI. They fixed it so that's what I'll be getting instead of a GR86.

How would you rate the Golf 8.5 against the Audi A3? Same platform, engines and gearbox. Audi arguably has a nicer interior though.
We haven’t driven the recently updated A3 yet, but we will be in the next couple of months. Audi interior looks nicer, but it’s also more expensive.
