I just saw the Benchmark video review for this and your getting all that power draw and heat for 1-2 fps gains of other cards in the line up. Not to mention you could be paying 30 + pounds more. Are people just getting a better quality card over the other GPUs? Or is that just speculation? The cooler is massive but the high temps are still there? Confused & Miffed. Am I still winning with this card?
There's just ONE review from Hardware Unboxed that has been saying Temps are high. Hardware Canucks, Tech Testers, Vortex etc etc.... They all say if you can afford it? Go for it. It's an amazing card.
WOW That looks like a excellent card to pick up. And I always had good luck stability wise with asus products since my old hd7770 asus card still works without any driver issues cant wait to get the strix card of the 5700 xt for my 144hz upgrade. :)

Doesn't seem like the 5700XT really has much room for overclocking. So do you think you will get any use out of all this "over engineering" Or do you think it will actually make it so it CAN overclock more than the reference and the sapphire pulse?
What's your thoughts on the new X470 MAX motherboards coming out soon? The specifications on the MSI boards makes it seem like they're going to be pretty solid option.
Hey Buildzoid, been a big fan of this channel ! excuse me, but i wanna ask you something, i was looking into the B Die memory . So regarding to the Absolute Maximum Ratings , what is VDD, VDDQ, VPP...? Does the VDD means the maximum voltage for Dram ?

250A maybe... higher and GPU or GDDR will melt. This thing needs no VRM cooling ever. Passive heatsink. Extreme OC will boost voltage, but not current at some point.
Looks like ASUS is currently testing waters for Navi as of right now when Navi starts getting better ASUS will probably push out more stuff and features on their Strix cards still though this looks better than what they did last time on the Vega and Polaris cards
@Buildzoid Hi I would like to remind my self :) I was recently asking you at your stream, if you can check the LLC setting on MSI AM4 board, because it is broken up to 3 different boards I owned now from MSI :( Also I know for a fact, that other people have exactly same problem... I would be very grateful for your help, first because you made such video in the past, and second your video could reach better MSI...
Do you think this board design will give anymore OCing head room over reference design say with water cooling? or is this only really good for extreme OCing?
Board designs never given huge advantages even to Nvidia cards besides cooling. So if you only care about cooling & cost, (not design language, not much higher quality and costlier pcb or extra headroom for extreme oc), then sapphire cards are the way to go. On nvidia's line up, Zotac amp and gigabyte gaming OC cards are top notch too as they are cooler than their beefier counterparts like Amp Extreme and Aorus
@@dyren7437 the 5700 and XTs aren't. The asus cards come pre oced and thus their oc headroom is minimal. Vegas had better undervolting potential but you Cant expect half of the cards to reach that. Even hardware unboxed's review sample of both vega 64 and 5700XT didn't gain much after UV+OC. If cards were this much stable in literally everything on those insane overclocking numbers found in ocn, amd nvidia both would clock their XT and super at higher clocks and charge more. At least AIB boards would do but even they Cant.
VEGA question: Got a Vega Strix, I've applied registry mods, the card is staying cool (Tj=80°C), but I'm not seeing the high wattage outputs in GPUZ as seen on TH-cam. Is this a software bug or does Asus have a power limiter on their cards?
Sad to see Asus using Micron memory for this GPU. I wonder if that's only vendor they use though as that might vary from batch to batch. My Strix RTX 2080 has Samsung memory that overclock really well and provide pretty good performance uplift compared to stock speeds.
Upon removing my cooler on the MSI reference card, the R56 1917 chip has fallen off, on this PCB it is named slightly different. I was wondering if you know what it is exactly? Could I possibly repair with a little bit of glue or possibly wedging it against my waterblock with some thermal padding? It has 2 mental connections underneath. It doesn't look damaged.
helo, i have this gpu, my vrm module does not get into contact with the thermal pad on the heatsink.. if i push the fan shroud upward.. then the vrm contact with thermal pad.. do you have the same problem. please help me.
One major issue with this card HUGE price premium over the reference design. Here in Sweden it seems to be over $140 above reference design and at that price it cost more then reference 2070 Super so not worth it since 2070 Super is slightly faster and AMD will probably soon release a 5800 card that will be in those price ranges. AIB cards for the 5700XT are only interesting if they are below $450.
The Strix is the most expensive 5700 XT custom card I can get in my country. I was wondering about the difference between this and the Gigabyte 5700 XT Gaming OC, which is one of the cheapest custom cards out there (it's cheaper than Pulse in my country).
@ Actually Hardcore Overclocking I´ve asked you a month ago if you have made a reference PCB video, you responded that you´ve done it for gamersnexus. Do you know when they are going to release it ?
Probably not. Unlikely that any of those cards will be so poorly designed that the VRM is not enough. The strix usually just runs much cooler. Performs slightly better (a few single digit percentage)
I had Strix 1070 and later 1080ti that i traded for Palit 2080 - these cards are amazing in terms of thermals, imo the best non limited edition air-cooled card. Altho price premium is to much, especially for non flagship models. I bet that this Strix 5700 will be at 549$ or somenthing close to that which makes it quite stupid.

ASUS has a cashback on this card around here that makes it ... well same price as the other cards. Win win.
I got it for 377 Euros and not every of them Cards is getting hot only the ones with the too long screws on the VRM Cooler
WOW That looks like a excellent card to pick up. And I always had good luck stability wise with asus products since my old hd7770 asus card still works without any driver issues cant wait to get the strix card of the 5700 xt for my 144hz upgrade. :)
hey man , did you got it ? how it runs ? 1 year review ?
One thing that really puts me off on the gddr6 is the temp on them. 90c for normal temp most of the times.
Anyone else have their eyes drawn to the owl face near the AOI OK sticker? lol
Funny one of the more expensive customs is the first released, i dont like the temps of it. Gotta wait how the other customs look and review, my wallet is ready for a 5700xt or 2070S, custom reviews will show me the path.
Red Devil or Nitro+ is probably gonna be the way to go.
@@rinhato8453 powercolor is cheap brand. Probably uses cheap pcb parts. So more likely to die faster
I bought reference 5700 xt and I’ll add ek water block to it for better cooling and keeping it in line with my pc aspheric
Doesn't seem like the 5700XT really has much room for overclocking.
So do you think you will get any use out of all this "over engineering" Or do you think it will actually make it so it CAN overclock more than the reference and the sapphire pulse?
Its has a artificial limited that AMD has imposed. I'm guessing so it doesn't beat the Rx 5800 if it comes out.
When should we expect to see these to start showing up at New Egg and other on-line vendorss in large enough numbers to meet the demand?
What's your thoughts on the new X470 MAX motherboards coming out soon? The specifications on the MSI boards makes it seem like they're going to be pretty solid option.
Hey Buildzoid, been a big fan of this channel !
excuse me, but i wanna ask you something, i was looking into the B Die memory .
So regarding to the Absolute Maximum Ratings , what is VDD, VDDQ, VPP...? Does the VDD means the maximum voltage for Dram ?
Just Google it
@@AdrianMuslim already did, and the article i got is kinda outdated from 2004 so yeah
You should be able to get the solder pinta clean with liquid metal and a little heat to start the reaction. Not sure though ive never tried
big fan, remembered you said the 2 led by the power connector doenst make sense? well helped me, pc kept on shutting down saw a red light on my one power connector went red.. pushed it little further and problem solved..after updating drivers etc
250A maybe... higher and GPU or GDDR will melt. This thing needs no VRM cooling ever. Passive heatsink. Extreme OC will boost voltage, but not current at some point.
You didn't mentioned anything about RAM modules. It's Hynix, Samsung or Micron..?!?
They’re Micron, based on this photo
Looks like ASUS is currently testing waters for Navi as of right now
when Navi starts getting better ASUS will probably push out more stuff and features on their Strix cards
still though this looks better than what they did last time on the Vega and Polaris cards
For a Sapphire fanboy I'm both sad and happy. Welcome, ASUS, I guess...
Wait, what?
@@fubuziom0 What? :) I didn't understand you.
Just wait for the Sapphire Nitro. If their previous designs are anything to go by, then it’s pretty fair to say that it’s gonna be awesome
@Buildzoid Hi I would like to remind my self :) I was recently asking you at your stream, if you can check the LLC setting on MSI AM4 board, because it is broken up to 3 different boards I owned now from MSI :( Also I know for a fact, that other people have exactly same problem... I would be very grateful for your help, first because you made such video in the past, and second your video could reach better MSI...
which BIOS version does it happen with because I've not had any issues on any of my boards
Do you think this board design will give anymore OCing head room over reference design say with water cooling? or is this only really good for extreme OCing?
dont think they will. I think this would be useful for the ln2 guys
This is the most expensive 5700XT and yet temps are worse than cheapest aib 5700xt which is Sapphire pulse ($410)
@@damienriot amd cards are better for overclocking than nvidia cards nowadays
@@dyren7437 the 5700 and XTs aren't. The asus cards come pre oced and thus their oc headroom is minimal. Vegas had better undervolting potential but you Cant expect half of the cards to reach that. Even hardware unboxed's review sample of both vega 64 and 5700XT didn't gain much after UV+OC. If cards were this much stable in literally everything on those insane overclocking numbers found in ocn, amd nvidia both would clock their XT and super at higher clocks and charge more. At least AIB boards would do but even they Cant.
Can you do a video overclocking this card for gaming? Pls :)
I'd love to see you do a video on the 2070 super msi trio card.
What do you think of the MSI X570 Gaming Edge Wifi having really bad vrm thermals?
VEGA question:
Got a Vega Strix, I've applied registry mods, the card is staying cool (Tj=80°C), but I'm not seeing the high wattage outputs in GPUZ as seen on TH-cam.
Seems like a home run! Only if it is 64 CU!
helo, i have this gpu, my vrm module does not get into contact with the thermal pad on the heatsink.. if i push the fan shroud upward.. then the vrm contact with thermal pad.. do you have the same problem. please help me.
cant wait for the embargo to lift and he does this for Asus ROG Strix 6800XT
One major issue with this card HUGE price premium over the reference design. Here in Sweden it seems to be over $140 above reference design and at that price it cost more then reference 2070 Super so not worth it since 2070 Super is slightly faster and AMD will probably soon release a 5800 card that will be in those price ranges. AIB cards for the 5700XT are only interesting if they are below $450.
What? In Denmark the Strix costs US$15 less than the reference card and US$150 less than the cheapest 2070S (inno3d). Find a different shop.
Full screens, squints...
Nooo micron memory!
What's the problem with micron?
@@AdrianMuslim Samsung is better, imho
Can you make a pcb breakdown of the 2070 super msi gaming x trio?
GPU PBC Breakdown of the Sapphire RX 5700 XT Pulse???
same as turbosht
You didn't complain even once!
Best review a GPU could get from you..
You should get shares in ASUS for card sales lol
The Strix is the most expensive 5700 XT custom card I can get in my country. I was wondering about the difference between this and the Gigabyte 5700 XT Gaming OC, which is one of the cheapest custom cards out there (it's cheaper than Pulse in my country).
The Strix is cheaper than the Gigabyte here. Have you look for a cashback program from ASUS?
5:20 - what happened to that 8pin? Repair?
@
Actually Hardcore Overclocking
I´ve asked you a month ago if you have made a reference PCB video, you responded that you´ve done it for gamersnexus.
Do you know when they are going to release it ?
They released it today, if you're still looking for it 😄
Does VRM even matter for this particular card tho? I mean outside of extreme OC obviously.
Probably not. Unlikely that any of those cards will be so poorly designed that the VRM is not enough. The strix usually just runs much cooler. Performs slightly better (a few single digit percentage)
15:01 i can't believe he didn't make a 420 joke
I had Strix 1070 and later 1080ti that i traded for Palit 2080 - these cards are amazing in terms of thermals, imo the best non limited edition air-cooled card. Altho price premium is to much, especially for non flagship models. I bet that this Strix 5700 will be at 549$ or somenthing close to that which makes it quite stupid.
Do a review of the rx 5700xt red devil pls
Could you use liquid metal to short those
Make PCB review of HIS, please.
Sapphire nitro+ rx 5700 xt, im a joke to you?
buildzoid, i love Asus.
I wouldnt mind a comparison.
*How stupid! This is the most expensive 5700XT and yet temps are worse than cheapest aib 5700xt which is Sapphire pulse ($410). Fucking Asus.*
similar to my rx5700 but not exactly i am new to GPU stuff more of a old school stereo receiver guy like a sansui from 1977
I need your help please! Can you tell me where is the bios chip? thanks!

does the arctic accelero 4 fit?
Anyone know if this is the same PCB as the reference card in terms of water cooling blocks? I’m trying to find a custom 5700 XT to use with the EK water block that fits reference PCBs? If it isn’t, could you tell me which aftermarket cards have it?
So no bios modding at all, huh?
Is there a way to mod target temps and fan rpm in SPPT? Planning to get a reference 5700XT and an accelero Xtreme, don't want the card to run 3 axial fans at blower tier speeds
Don't wanna advertise other youtubers here, but one guy from Canada bought 5700XT Anniversary edition and installed an aftermarket cooler. He failed to achieve better results, sadly
@@nikityukvlad I'm fine with the performance, I just want to make it quieter.
DrathVader it doesn’t work.
@@ytaccount-rs6jt Huh, that sucks then.
Wonder if flashing the bios from pulse would work, as far as I can tell the VRM is essentially the same, just rearranged a bit
@@DrathVader bios modding works.
Given you get no real worth while performance gain between reference and AIB cards I wouldn’t be spending £500 for a 5700xt.
i can GARENTEE you that amd's NVIDIA KILLER gpu will be a 5950xt STRIX navi card :) and still cheaper then nvidia's SUPER line!
At this time I don’t think there are any talks about a 5950xt, but I believe the 5900 and 5900xt names have been trademarked. Watch Moore’s Law is Dead, he goes over it. The 5900 is supposed to take a dump on the 2080ti and the xt variant is supposed to be like 10-15% faster than the 5900. I do hope sapphire makes a vapor x version on one of these models.
but why not hbm 😑
Because it would be much more expensive.
Very nice, but probably 500+ dollars and at that point I'd rather buy a lower end 2070 Super. The ASUS tax has gotten insane the last couple of years.

I just tested 5 days ago my Strix 5700 xt via 3Dmark demo test to see the score and my card got permanently coil whine after the test. When I run games like cs:go or pubg on fps unlimited it starts coil whine and the temperatures are getting high. Tried to limit the fps to 144 , it works , coil whine disappear , but it's getting back if i'm playing a newer game like forza horizon 4 even on 60 fps.... What can I do?
coil whine will actually go away in time , just use the card, that not a faulty one ,coil whine is natural , so , no problem there , enjoy ur card at high frame rates !!!
whats all the crap on the PCB? flux?
I bought an Asus Crosshair VII Hero mobo, because Buildzoid said it was massive overkill, and it has not dissapointed, so when he gets this excited about an AMD GPU, it means just get yourself one!!! Sold!!!
