I had a Red Devil for 3 days, and the card is also very impressive (basicly the same as the Nitro), but the industrial looks of the Sapphire are better for me than the aggresive devilish kind. That is a matter of taste I suppose, so if you like Devil more, it's also a great choice for a high end 5700 XT model. If you want cheaper, go with Pulse, or Red Dragon, I wanted to pay those extra bucks to get the max out of the aircolled card (and some awsome RGB ;)) If u want to go for water cooling, the ref card seems the way to go, but to be honest, what would be the purpose of that? 5% power gain?
@@Jaksoncpp Well, for me the Nitro+ looks more like a premium product. Red Devil gave me that "Mom I want that card because you know, it's a DEVIL" vibe. The overall quality of The Devil is very good tho, hard to be picky.
With watercooling you can boost higher as the GPU junction temp is lower. Now again that does increase the power draw but still its worth it to put underwater.
@@Jaksoncpp did not say nitro was bad didn't I? Made my choice from all the 5700xt videos they made and end up choosing Red devil yesterday just because its $10 cheaper where I am
@heydon2012 I bought the Special Edition, It's everything Steve said OTB it's OC'd w/ more room to spare on memory oc's. My gpu clocks stay in the 2000's while gaming on the oc bios, on the "low power" bios it stays in the high 1900's. If you want 144Hz gaming in 1440p or 240Hz 1080p then this is the card for you it is near silent and temps never get high. Too me the SE is worth it for the RGB fans and OC bios it has higher power tables and faster binned memory. The reference card on LN2 couldn't hit the memory speeds of this card, so the design has something to do with it. Just buy it you will love it. Next year this time we may be seeing a "Big Navi" version, but I wouldn't hold my breath as this is perfect for the Enthusiast gamer today.
@@jerrywatson1958 I thought the only difference with the special edition was that it comes with the RGB fans instead of the regulars. I've had the standard Nitro + for over a week now and the highest I've seen the clocks go is ROUND 2035 with a peak of 2045.
Hum, it's a tough choice... The Sapphire seems to have a better cooler and run colder and quieter when on the quiet bios and to have a higher frequency at stock with the OC bios... Sapphire also seem to have a better track record when it comes to dealing with RMA... But the Red Devil does seem to have a better actual PCB in case you really want to push its OC yourself. The Nitro is also cheaper in my country then the Red Devil, so there's that...
hi i love your videos ! but if you make so much videos about the 5700 / 5700xt pls make one about their driver aswell, right now there are big issues, for example there are quiet a lot of ppl where the "amdkmdap" (aka displaydriver) just stops working and you have annoying blackscreens ranging form every few hours to every few minutes ! would love to hear you talking about this, and letting more ppl know that if this issue dont get fixed a 5700/5700xt (even with a great price to performance ratio) is not the way to go .. esp for ppl that are waiting for parts and have no retrun window anymore.
We talked about drivers for 5 minutes in the recent XFX review and complained about drivers in the initial review. Haven't seen the issue you're talking about yet, but plenty of others.
Gamers Nexus thanks for the answer ! I just hope a channel like gamernexus will make a stand-alone Video about drivers, i love the 5700xt nitro + that i have installed right now but the drivers are so messy that i will return it, i just think it would be good to get more ppl aware of the driver issues in the first place. I did hear bad things about amd drivers and the launch of the 5700/5700xt but I taught now 2 month after the release the drivers should be fine ... big mistake, anyways great video ! greetings from germany
@@morbue7575 ,Try using DDU to fully uninstall all traces of the driver & then install the latest driver again. I was having a similar issues with my Red Devil, and read that some issues with some of the older drivers would cause the crashes, and though the newer drivers fixed the issues, if you don't fully uninstall all the hidden traces of the old drivers, the issue would continue. After using DDU & installing driver 19.9.2 I haven't had the black screen crashes.
I had the same issue for almost 2 years on my last system that ran a intel cpu and a gtx 1080, I could for the life of me not figure out what exactly caused the random blackscreens but it turned out that the mainboard was defect, it wasn't the driver or anything else in the pc. Wow, no love for the Nitro+. I actually bought a few Nitro+ 5700xt cards and 2 Red Devil 5700xt cards. I might be hated for saying this but I completely disagree with Buildzoid. I think my Nitros outperform the Red Devils when you look at horsepower to power usage. My Nitro+ cards have a much lower power usage than the Red Devils and I can do more with them at that lower power draw. It wasn't just the silicon lottery either. Not unless I won 4 times with the Nitros I bought and lost 2 times with the Red Devils I bought. I'm not going to even begin to think I know jack about GPU PCBs , power ratings or anything like Buildzoid knows. His knowledge is WAY over my head. But as an end-user, I can tell you I love my Nitro+ cards much more than the Red Devils. Maybe they didn't add the two 55A chips / banks for the extra $4 because they knew the card would draw more power with the same performance? No idea, just wanted to say thanks for the video and I love my Nitros more than my Red Devils.
not really because there's plenty of other cards doing good mem clocks on the most down costed version of the 5700 XT PCB available. I think it's 100% IMC and memory chip silicon lottery.
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking Ah ok, you mentioned the possibility of more spread out voltage and the thought came to mind. I haven't had the chance or water cooling parts to put my Ref 5700 XT to the test but so far 910mhz is about my max give or take. Great tear down tho btw!
It means that the capacitor is rated at 5k hours at 105°C, so even longer if it runs cooler, so you probably can it much longer, because the capacitors won't run at 105°C
@1:22 where buildzoid comments on the fuses that Sapphire added to the power inputs, would these be in response to the powerplay tables mods that came in with the Vega cards?
I own both cards and prefer the Nitro. Overall from what I can see the red Devil has a bigger failure rate. Know a few people who had to return theirs and see the same comments again and again on forums. Build quality on the nitro is better overall. Red Devil is nice though. Still prefer the Nitro by a good margin.
@Actually Hardcore Overclocking can't be more wrong than he is about the fuses. They prevent severe damages of GFX cards. The RMA program is very limited. And in many countries you go with your card to a local service shop. Often you face the masters there who say that it is you fould that your GFX card is broken and it will not be covered with the warranty. And then you go to unauthorized professionals who then resurrect your card. And fuses make this resurrection cheaper - because in most cases you'll have to replace the faulty component + the fuse. Without the fuse - you'll have to deal with multiple damaged components and a hole in the textolite ( th-cam.com/video/yFZLylhma5I/w-d-xo.html ) . That's why I always pay attention to the presence of the fuses.
@@ReDHaWko He insists that fuses don't have consumer value because of RMA. But in countries not covered with RMA fuses make the difference in the price of recovering your GFX card and even in the possibility to recover the card.
Guess LN2 won't be so useful on this card. Buildzoid also looked at the strix and that one has a very good vrm. And clearance where the pot goes. Maybe GN can do some LN2 overclocking with a 5700 XT strix?
Just by my non expert opinion, the cooler a card the longer it will live especially if it doesn't have any overtly bad parts that could kill it. Lower temps = less stress to all parts
Is the additional cost of AlPol caps worth the savings of blower cooler? After all those reviews, does GN still thinks blower was a cost saving choice or as the AMD stated, for reliability. As I see it from BZ's comments that AMD targeted their initial price and didn't care about the cost that much but they had to decrease because of the Super series and partners deal with the new lower prices in their own ways.(like MSI saving from half thermal pads :)
@@karleslit7975 Great! how do you like it so far? Driver are stable? i've read there was a couple issue with 5700XT drivers recently. Appreciate your feedback :)

hey man, I know that you know better about the fuses, as does everyone who does 3rd party repairs. Sure if you're in warranty there's no reason to care, but 2-3 years down the line when a VRM blows up and Sapphire tells you to go kick rocks having those fuses there makes the card an easy fix instead of a lost cause. We really should be pushing more manufacturers to add the fuses to every PCB instead of saving literally a few cents per card by not using them.
Ok can someone explain this to me? I don't really understand most of the stuff that's said in the video, but the review that GN did for this card made it seem like it was one of the best 5700xt cards but a lot of people in the comments on this video are saying it's not that good after watching this video? What's wrong with it?
@@Illiyeen_Jameel thx, this gives me peace of mind since i'm even simulating the PC case airflow with different configs on ANSYS and Solidworks. Was starting to consider buying the Red Devil instead the Nitro+.

Where were 3rd parties suppose to go beyond just making a cooler that doesn't suck, and hope they do worthwhile binning?
@@SilentdragonDe Maxis Blog 1. It doesn't fit out of the box, you would have to modify it 2. Doesn't look that good 3. There are good, cheap custom models such as the Pulse from Sapphire 4. You shouldn't care too much about PCBs when you're not extreme overclocking (custom loop and up). It literally doesn't matter if it's an 8 or 10 phase design with x or y powerstages. 5. Lower resale value
What a shame. I think this here and the Taichi are the only RX 5700 XT cards with 2 HDMI ports. And since i can't find anything on DP++ support the Nitro+ looked interesting.
I'm a repair guy and I think fuses are really important bc. if a phase blows and shorts 12v to gnd it cold destroy/burn the pcb and send 12v to all sort of thing. So from a repair perspective they are really helping. I had a 1060 where he owner tried to watercool the VRMs and shorted a ceramic cap and all I had to do was to change the fuse. Without the fuse it would probably damage the PCB. An other point is that could also kill your PSU (if it's cheap enough) and kill other parts of your pc. Otherwise is your video really interresting.
I couldn't see any info about it on their website, so I guess I'll ask my question here. Does this card utilize '0dB' technology like the Strix does? I.E does the fans not spin when it's under a certain temperature? (I believe it's when it's below 50c on the Strix) I'm not even sure how audible it would be without it, but I have a Strix model right now, and I'm pleased with how silent it is. Not an RX 5700 XT Strix, but a GTX 1070 Strix. Just to clarify.
Late with the reply, but maybe you (or others) still find it handy to know: the 5700 XT Strix, Red Devil and Nitro+ use the 0db while temp is below 60 degrees. There are a few more AIB cards that do the same, but I honestly haven't bothered to check/remember them all ;)
@@brainnsfw7346 Thank you for the reply, nevertheless :) I, personally, have opted out of getting an RX 5700 XT, just because of all of the horror stories I've heard around the internet about their horrendous drivers. I'm not too interested in having to fiddle with driver versions and BIOS settings, beyond turning on XMP for my memory, etc. Too bad, because it really seems like an amazing card at the price.
nerverthless.... Steve told us the card has best cooling perfomance and Igors Lab also, so I waited for all 3x-fan custom-cards tests and decide to buy this, because cooling is more important for me instead of better parts they getting hot, tue the fact the cooling solutions is worst then this card.......and I´m happy with this Nitro+
If your not putting a water block on it. Buy the nitro, its cooler is slightly better than the red devil, but not by too much. If you are putting a water block on it, get the red devil. They messed up with the cooler on the msi evoke, so don't get that one for air and it's pcb is worse than the nitro. The nitro and red devil both have solid coolers so you will be fine whichever one you choose.
The Nitro got a better cooler then the other two. Red Devil got a better PCB then the other two. If the price is the same I wouldn't even look at the MSI card this time unless there's space limitations in my case... If you're getting a water block just go reference, not Red Devil like SuperSeigman said below.
I dont think im gonna get waterblock on it. Hmm from what i know today. Pcb quality : red devil > nitro+ Cooling: msi gaming x> nitro+> red devil Performance: msi gaming x> nitro+> red devil trixx software is really good and nitro+ has dual bios Im still waiting for msi gaming x gpu breakdown. So my choice maybe go down to nitro+ or msi gaming x
Ok help needed, i accidentally plugged in the CPU power cable in one of the 2 power plugs of this card instead of the pcie power one, that i was supposed to, dont ask why or how, big brainfart moment, it happened, now when you press the power button the card is completely dead and a red led stays on, on the MB that indicates vga failure...i tried another card with the correct pci vga power cable and all is good, with nitro though no go, tested it on another PC and nitro still dead, you think the fuses blew up? You think i may have a chance??
The Ryzen 5 2600 is currently sitting at such a good price, I couldn't resist anymore. So, I decided to finally say goodbye to my i7 2600. The cheapest 16GB kit of 3000MHz RAM that's listed on MSI B450 Tomahawk Max compatibility list has no heatsinks. it's G.Skill Aegis 16GB DDR4 CL16 (F4-3000C16D-16GISB). Do RAM heatsinks even matter? I just wanna OC that kit to 3200MHz and maybe tighten the timings a little bit.
its not that heatsinks are particularly important (if you have airflow), the important thing, and the reason that ram kit is so cheap, is that it simply cant do much more at all. you might be able to get more out of it with more voltage but at that point a better heatsink with more surface area will help. but youre better off buying a better kit, something like CMK16GX4M2Z3200C16
For PCB quality only it's Strix->Devil->reference->Nitro->other crap For air cooler quality it's Nitro->Devil->other crap->reference. For water block compatibility it's reference->other stuff. So if you plan to watercool then don't bother with aftermarket. If you plan to air cool do Nitro or Devil depending on what you care more about, PCB or actual cooler.
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking Not always, I still own an 6950 toxic, it's not that great (blower cooler and all), but it was guaranteed to be unlockable, which is also neat

The fact that this doesn’t have a high-end custom pcb seems to indicate that Sapphire still has a trick up their sleeve. Because they usually always have at least one absolutely high end card. Possibly a 5700XT Toxic in the making?
11:56 What will happen if you would install all of those missing electronics by your self???? Taken of the dead card or bought online. On this card or any other one. Is it even possible to do that!?
Nah, if you want air cooling get either the three fan Red Devil or the three fan Nitro. Red Devil got a better PCB if you plan to OC it, if you plan to run stock then the actual cooler is better on the Nitro. If you plan to water cool it then get the reference card and buy a water block for it.
@@Heipooo Where they tested at the same clock-speed and voltage? The Nitro+ OC has a high stock clock speed on the fast bios. On the quiet bios where it's basically the same as other 5700 XT it was best in the tests I've seen when noise normalized to 40 DB.
Reference were originally going to cost $499 so that could be why they use such expensive parts. Price reduction probably caused a lot of cost-optimization
Only if you want to water cool the RX 5700 XT which is not going to give you more than 5% over reference as Hardware Unboxed showed in their video. The PCB is more than good enough for the air cooler that the Nitro + has on the card.
It's a solid pcb, it's better than most 5700xt's. Not as efficient as the reference card. They could have done better. The red devil's pcb is better, same with the ridiculously expensive strix card. Though if your not water cooling none of this is a real issue. If you are water cooling the gpu, buy the reference card, red devil, or the insane strix.
Not a rundown of the video but my take away from it and other videos. If you want the best PCB go Strix, but its air cooler is bad. If you want the second best PCB go Red Devil, it's air cooler is second best. If you plan to water cool just go reference, it's PCB is third place and while it's cooler is crap it's more compatible with water blocks. If you want the best cooler go Nitro, it's behind the other three in terms of PCB but better then any other GPU out there other then the above ones in terms of PCB. And it's cooler is the best one out there, even beating Red Devil. If you care more about PCB then cooler go Red Devil, if you care more about cooler then PCB go Nitro, if you plan to water cool go reference. If you don't plan to OC pick whatever is cheaper of Red Devil and Nitro to be honest. Nitro is better if you think you might RMA or anything like that at some point, Red Devil might OC a tiny bit better, Nitro is slightly quieter.
@@Johnny-on7ig Depends. It's more expensive then cards like Red Devil or the reference card in many countries. And the PCB is worse then those two. By the way, just saw a review of a cooler that actually seems to beat the Nitro, so there's that... I'm probably going to land with the Nitro myself.
This is probably why amd gets falsfully accused for holding better silicone for their refrence cards going by what he says amd refrence just uses better components making it better for overclocking but to bad their cooler sucks.
Lol xfx, "hey guys quit talking about our card"....posts entire breakdown of all the parts 😂. TL;DR maaaybe don't overclock this card... Just to be safe. For the retail price of these new GPUs in 2019 you can find an used 1080ti that performs a bit better. I have the EVGA 1080ti SC2 black and have yet to overclock it, don't need it yet. Best card for the money, even when it was new. If you don't need RTX I still recommend it
"don't overclock this card" what? The VRM is fine. It's nothing special, but it will easily handle the 260-280 watts an OC 5700XT pulls. It's disappointing if you wanted to put it under liquid nitrogen, but for ambient cooling overclocking this is completely fine
@@givemeajackson yeah probably is fine. I'm not an expert, so I would not risk a daily overclock to the max. Definitely not flashing it with a 50th anniversary or XT edition bios either. I worked for a tech company doing product repairs, it's crazy how often heat can kill parts over time, I see it most often on TVs and monitors because they lack fans and heatsinks are crappy.
This isn't a bad card. Buildzoid said it's not great for water cooling. The Nitro + has one of the best air cooler designs as GamersNexus showed. The PCB is good enough for overclocking on the Nitro+ card.
Is thare exist at least one good 5700 XT card? Something on Palit JETSTREAM level? Sapphire have the vorst memory cooling where half of mem chips would fry, PowerColor red devil dont have fuses, msi and others...
Thin plate with small bridges between part that covers memory and heatsink. Mem chips directly beneath heat sink have enough cooling but about other chips i highly doubt. There not enough conductivity in that plate. Separate memory heatsink is almost always a bad decision.
The Nitro got a better cooler then the Strix and even a tiny bit better then the Red Devil. The Red Devil got a better PCB. As for prices, the Nitro is actually cheaper then the Red Devil and Strix in my country.
Nitro is actually a lot cheaper but due to high demand and low stock it's sold expensive. When it will be in stock the prices will reduce so keep checking.

For the price of Pulse it's a great deal!! Congrats!!
hi i love your videos ! but if you make so much videos about the 5700 / 5700xt pls make one about their driver aswell, right now there are big issues, for example there are quiet a lot of ppl where the "amdkmdap" (aka displaydriver) just stops working and you have annoying blackscreens ranging form every few hours to every few minutes ! would love to hear you talking about this, and letting more ppl know that if this issue dont get fixed a 5700/5700xt (even with a great price to performance ratio) is not the way to go .. esp for ppl that are waiting for parts and have no retrun window anymore.
Changing the motherboard fixed the issue. The nvidia driver crashed as well but from my experience it wasn't the driver causing the problem because I tried to install windows many many times to find out the cause.
Turn off DSR, turn off AMD user experience program, turn off enhanced sync and problems are gone.

Steve should force Buildzoid to do scripts.... He could do this video in half the time instead of rambling for ages xD
Why would you watch a Buildzoid video without rambling though?
@@Chuckiele He would ramble anyways xD
Thanks for the great breakdown,
Would the memory Vmem layout contribute to Steve getting such a good OC on his Nitro+ compared to any of the others?
not really because there's plenty of other cards doing good mem clocks on the most down costed version of the 5700 XT PCB available.
When he says the capacitor is rated 5000hrs, what does that mean more specifically? Like I would use this card for more than 5000 hrs
It means that the capacitor is rated at 5k hours at 105°C, so even longer if it runs cooler, so you probably can it much longer, because the capacitors won't run at 105°C
@@skewy21 I think they last like 5-10 times longer for every 5°C less operating temp.
Yeah, basically if you have an efficient VRM, the capacitors will never get hot so the rating doesnt matter.
Yep like he says to prevent spread of the damage to other conponents
@@ReDHaWko He insists that fuses don't have consumer value because of RMA. But in countries not covered with RMA fuses make the difference in the price of recovering your GFX card and even in the possibility to recover the card.

1. It doesn't fit out of the box, you would have to modify it
2. Doesn't look that good
3. There are good, cheap custom models such as the Pulse from Sapphire
4. You shouldn't care too much about PCBs when you're not extreme overclocking (custom loop and up). It literally doesn't matter if it's an 8 or 10 phase design with x or y powerstages.
5. Lower resale value
20:18 in the video btw
(I believe it's when it's below 50c on the Strix)

So for 5700XT cards: Nitro+ vs. Red Devil vs. one other of your choice? Just factoring in PCB and VRM quality.
I'd take the red devil

For PCB quality only it's Strix->Devil->reference->Nitro->other crap
For air cooler quality it's Nitro->Devil->other crap->reference.
For water block compatibility it's reference->other stuff.

If you plan to air cool do Nitro or Devil depending on what you care more about, PCB or actual cooler.

Nitro is actually a lot cheaper but due to high demand and low stock it's sold expensive. When it will be in stock the prices will reduce so keep checking.
