RIP William Peter Blatty 1928-2017 One of the luckiest icons in Horror History to achieve an Oscar. Then again, when you are the author of The Exorcist. You are a genius.
Jason Miller should have won for best supporting actor. All of the pain and suffering of the entire story is reflected through his eyes, His expression of shock and horror when he realizes the reality of the demon is beyond words. I love how human he is and that he is questioning his faith. That scene when he is giving communion is very sad and haunting. I agree with the comment below, he is hot! His cheeks are very sunken and he looks like a sad puppy dog! Those eyes are so beautiful and intense!
+cfx5000 count me out of that equation i don't watch the excorcist now but I do own a book called written by a father Am aworth called the antics of Satan and his demons.this film merely touches on it.
You are very right. He was brilliant in that film. Hollywood should be ashamed not because none of the performances in The Exorcist won an Oscar, but because they didn't want those performances to win. They rightfully acknowledged the film's brilliance by giving it nominations, but there's no way this film was going to get an Oscar for Linda Blair, Miller or Ellen Burystn, never mind Best Picture.
Yes. William Friedkin did a great achievement in directing ''The Exorcist''. Is not only a horror film, but also a huge cultural event. ''The Exorcist'' and ''The Sting'' were the highest grossing films of 1973. And today, is considered a classic. Ellen Burstyn's performance in this movie is amazing! And scares me until today! haha
Exorcist was a ground -breaking movie in every respect. Those were pre-CGI days. All the SFX were achieved with numerous mechanical props used ingeniously. Build-up was just right. Linda Blair's make-up still brings fear and awe. The film didn't drag for a moment. Real age-of-the-seat horror-thriller.
They were snobby about the horror theme. No wonder William Friedkin still refuses to call it a horror film. It's clearly the best picture for that year though. The Sting won - I liked it but it's not in the same league as The Exorcist.
The Exorcist was nominated for 10 academy awards! Not many horror movies can claim that. Really should've won best picture and Linda Blair should've won for best supporting actress!
What a decent mild mannered, and humble guy peter blatty seems, as well as being a brilliant novelist who arguably penned the Greatest ever Horror. (The Exorcist) (P.Blatty R.I.P)
Not sure if he was used to the spotlight because i dont think he had much experience in the acting/ Hollywood world. Either way he did a great job in this.
I'm sorry, but you copy all your comments to another Oscar video, you just change the title / the name of the actor? Cause all your comments are exactly the same. "XY has great screenplay." or "XY had great acting in YX movie." :D
cfx5000 Academy Awards do not hold the weight they used too becuase 70% of the bigger budgeted Films that get money to be developed now are Animated, Cartoons, Super Hero, Sci Fi and Fantasy. Its such a shame!!
Angie Dickinson, wow, what a stunner. I recall her starring in Police Woman as Sgt Pepper Anderson which aired in the UK. Jason Miller was the stand out actor , as Fr. Damian Karrass, in my opinion.
Everyone saying how great the director was but not enough giving ms Linda Blair enough praise. Lets not forget she was 12 years old at the time. 12 YEARS OLD!!!!!
To date, The Exorcist still remains as the ONLY Horror Film ever to be Nominated in the Major Acting Nominations, as well as in Directing and Picture...
@@AtlasShrugged2005 -- The woman, to his right, looks like she couldn't care less that she's sitting next to Paul. I would've been staring at him the whole time. The authorities would've probably made me leave. But, hey, maybe that woman was from The Philippines. It's possible.
I'm with the majority on this one, should have won "every" award for a movie !! Best Horror Movie ever !! Still scares people today !! The only movies I can think of with lines out the door other than this one are Batman and StarWars. The others don't come close. ✌️
''Adoption''? I think he meant ''adaptation''. Nevertheless, amazing how the Academy finally recognized a horror film. In my opinion, one of the finest horror films ever made, set the bar so high for horror films to come. Definitely the most powerful film of the year.
The Exorcist is not only a thriller, for me it's a drama. The last time I saw it I tried not to cry.The relationship between the exorcist and his mother before and after her death is the real drama. And that woman was not even an actress.

I never in a million years would have thought I'd see Paul McCartney and Linda in this video?!?!!??!! What were they even doing there ??? My mind is blown
Old Hollywood HATED The Exorcist. They were so offended by it, having spent the last 30 years focusing on predictably digestible films such as big budget musicals. Horror was simply not a genre they held in high regard, particularly one as graphic as The Exorcist. Director William Friedkin wrote in his autobiography that veteran old school director and power player George Cukor was one of the key people who he heard had tried to suppress The Exorcist, going around telling people that if it won any Oscars it would irreversibly change the film landscape forever. Friedkin then met him at a party and Cukor claimed these were just rumors, but Friedkin had his suspicions. The Exorcist was the best film that year, certainly in terms of direction at least, and deserved to win. But the old guard were trying to hold it back
"THE EXORCIST" should've won Best Picture, but I think George Roy Hill still deserved Best Director. Friedkin already won for "THE FRENCH CONNECTION" and Hill already had "THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE", "BUTCH CASSIDY...", and "SLAUGHTER-HOUSE FIVE" under his wing. Regardless of whether we can remember Exorcist over Sting or not, it would've been even better with a Picture/Director split.
The Exorcist should have won every major award. It is one of the greatest movies ever made.
Exorcist should have won best picture, best director, best actress and supporting actress. Jason Miller should have won supporting role.
Apart from Miller (I'd given it to MVS): word. Ah. And Oldfield.
You're right Linda!
And Linda Blair should have won for supporting actress
Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes! You are rigth.
Yeah!!!

Agree. He is just a good in THE EXORCIST III - which has always gotten a bad rap - but is as scary as hell.
That simply makes too much sense... A legendary performance by Jason
Miller. People will still be watching this film hundreds of years from now.

Just how incredibly hot was Angie Dickinson in those days - she was 42 at the time.
Fact is she wasn't so hot in her 20's, in Rio Bravo is not half as sexy as here.
Should've sweeped the Oscars that night, deserved almost every major award that night including Best Picture and Best Director.
Wow! What wonderful and classy presenters and such memorable list of nominees!
The Exorcist could have easily swept the Oscars that year.
I feel that Jason Miller was even more deserving of the award.
Who remember best picture of 1973? The Exorcist an iconic movie.
I love how Jason Miller just took the envelope 1:30 :)
Fun Fact: In 1973 Jason Miller won the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play "That Championship Season".
Angie Dickinson should have won something for that dress

The Exorcist has great screenplay.
