  • I tried 3 methods for restoring and reshaping some old hats I was going to throw away. I’m still undecided as to which method worked best, but one thing I’m not undecided on, is how good the starch spray holds the shape of the hat. Have a look and I’ll let you be the judge.
Hope you enjoy the video and I’d really appreciate a like and subscribe if you do.

The steamer & starch spray method seems to work better. Thanks for the upload.

Yes, and the steamer was very average quality. A good steamer would do a much better job! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Man, I haven't heard the name Casey Stoner in ages!
Love the design as well for the cap!

I was a huge Stoner fan back in 2007, so I’m glad I could recover the cap! Thanks for watching and commenting 😀

Great video. The steamer/steam iron would be ideal for me. Ideally without the use of a mannequin head. Would an upside down bowl be as useful or any other options?

I watched a heap of videos before attempting this and people use all sorts of different items to shape the hat. You can definitely use a bowl if it’s roughly the size of a head. I used the mannequin head because it is round, but also narrow around the forehead and temple area. Saw one guy use a bucket with paper stuffed on top. Another guy just stuffed paper into the hat until it formed the shape of a head. Stretch the hat over the bowl and if you’re happy with the shape, I think it should be fine to use. Good luck, thanks for watching my video.

Hi can i ask after you steam the cap u need to make the cap cool down then use the starch spray?

    • @diymoto3952

Hi, the spray is actually designed to be used on clothing, just prior to ironing. Therefore, you don’t have to wait until the cap cools down and you can actually apply more steam after spraying if there are still creases. Hope this helps!

So I could technically soak the hat and wear it to the zoo and by days end it will be back to normal haha

That might be a little uncomfortable wearing a wet hat sprayed with starch 😂

@@kmbsnake5713 it in fact did not, I made the mistake of having gel in my hair. So when I wet the hat and got into the sun it then stuck to my scalp. I now wear the hat permanently kinda like how Joe dirt just left the wig on.
