I'd love to see each grinder with a graph of power & RPM vs torque. Maybe also overlay the most powerful grinder to each graph as a comparison. It would give insight into which companies are cutting off power before/at/after peak power. Great testing by the way, I'm loving it.
@Tools-Tested static chart is fine. My scumbag method of animating graphs is to export them as SVG. You can then put different lines in different layers, then export each layer to PNG. Then just use stacked images in your timeline and use a wipe transition to reveal each curve. Not really worth it, though, just show an image of the excel plot.
I love this idea, big fan of TTC channel, and while he has had some polishing in doing this type of factual based testing, I love where I see you going, similar in style, but this type overlay would give you a unique qualification in what is actually happening in the power curve of each tool.
Awesome test, thanks! You should really test the gen2 xgt grinder (GAG14Z), they quote some really high power numbers :) and a gen1 model for comparison, GAG01Z, that would be epic 😊
I don't think I need a grinder.. Fact is, I don't think I've every used or needed one. But I do enjoy your tool reviews and had to watch this! Great job on ALL your reviews!
Hope to test the Profactor's next, I will have to import the 18v-15 probably from DE or UK. Sorry I didn't add the link amzn.to/3Wkb5iR they also sell it in M14 thread.
I just got the Ridgid 4.5" angle grinder for free yesterday. Have wanted one for a while but didn't need it enough to bother going to buy it. Glad to see it does very well against the competition.
Awesome review as always! As others have noted, I too would be curious to see the most powerful grinder from each brand tested. However I know money IS a thing and you clearly put way more into your channel than you’re getting out of it. So maybe a round two later on when you can test all the greatest from each brands? I’m curious about the brand new, not yet available Ryobi. I don’t plan on buying one, I’m just really curious to see how it works compared to the old one. Also looking forward to seeing the new “forge” 8 and 12ah batteries. PS. I know it’s unlikely, but I’d love to see you test the Ridgid Octane 36v (dual battery) grinder! Though from what I hear it wasn’t super popular, not many sold, and the ones that did are going with their owners to their graves. But if you do happen to find one, that would be awesome. Also yes I know is meant for much bigger disks.
Thanks! You are one of the few that understand money plays a huge roll, I don't have the views other big channels have. Every dollar this channel pulls in goes right back into the channel and then some. Idk if people assume I'm rich or something lol, but I couldn't run this channel without my day job. Yeah that new Ryobi is on the list, I'm curious as well. Hopefully we get the new Edge battery at the same time and the Forge 8/12. Interesting I never knew Rigid had a 36v grinder, I will have to watch ebay.
@Tools-Tested it's the same cells as the 8Ah, so 12Ah with 15 vs 10 cells should always be better. Check your cell voltages, might want to warranty that battery.
Why did you not do the dcg418 that thing is a beast and will kick some serious ass, ive been running mine for over 4 years and nothing comes close in my opinion.
I tend to go with Milwaukee since that is the platform I started with when I got one of the first generation impact drivers. A couple of years ago, I was looking to get a drill with a lot of torque so I could use it on my tractor lift of all things. In looking around, I read about Flex's stacked lithium batteries and discovered that Lowes sells Flex tools. I ended up with the Flex FX 1251 hammer drill driver kit that came with a charger and a 6.0ah battery. That things is a beast. Last year, I wanted to get a angle grinder to sharpen my rider mower blades and the Flex 1371 since I now had Flex as a platform as well. It is a great tool. What I was really am writing about though, is that your review says the Flex has a 5-year warranty. What really was the final criteria for me when I got the two Flex tools is that they come with a limited lifetime warranty.
I have 2 of the milwaukees they are no longer top dog and do not have electronic braking, but they do have a high cost. I also have Hercules batteries, looks like if I get one it will be the grinder with the brush on it or I could get a Hercules to Bauer battery adapter and buy the better Bauer.
I've always been happy with Ridgid..Typically at the top of the prosumer market..I also have FLEX again typically at the top of the pro market.. thank you for doing these tests..always good to know that kind od data.. 👍
I like the ryobi because I got it for free😂 Seriously tho thats a serious test setup and a lot of tested grinders. If youre going to throw in non 18/24v tools, you do have to include the metabo hpt 36v, just to see if theres some redeeming 36v qualities, and since its the only hybrid battery/corded it would be interesting to see it run on wall power. Makita 40v would also be interesting to see. Im not sure if makita ever made a 36v dual battery one, but if they did that could be cool too. Edit: yes they do have a 36v dual battery. Probably not worth testing for the 3 people that own them, but cat also makes a grinder on their 18v platform
Lol thats a valid point, yeah I plan on doing 36/40 I'm sure it will drive some people crazy. Had a guy tell me I should test with pouch battery's or 40v tools because its not fair lol. I did think about cat, but cant really justify testing it at the moment. I agree, I don't think many people are using cat tools in the US. They have come down in price but still high IMO.
@Tools-Tested I mean in regards to the "which battery you should test with" a standardized 18650 2P chart wouldn't be a bad idea, like off the shelf standard battery everyone has. Milwaukee, dewalt, and makita all ship their kits and promo deals with regular 5ah batteries, ryobi, ridgid, hart, kobalt, craftsman, and skil ship with 4ah batteries, and metabo hpt only ships a single tool with the 5ah mv battery (36v impact driver kit) everything else is 2ah or tool only. I'm not too familiar with boshe or the HF brands so can't say on those. But most people are using these tools with standard 4-5ah 2p 186500 batteries.
I picked up a free Hercules grinder when i purchased an 8ah battery for $99. Turns out it has some kind of electric brake, not super fast though. I didn't see it in their product information. I have the Milwaukee 2780 & 2880 they are old school no brake models, you need to spend $50 more to get one of theirs with electric brake. Seems Milwaukee is falling behind. The quick stop time on the Hercules is very nice because it is almost stopped when you put it down. I struggle with the milwaukees to turn them over to the stop rest. If I didn't have 5 grinders, I'd get another.
Funny the Bauer beats the Hercules. I guess the extra price is going into a reserve fund for warranty. It would be good to know which grinders claimed to have an electronic brake when comparing faster stop time, otherwise they just have inefficient gears.
The issue with this test is you have not chosen the most powerful from each lineup to compare max power. What is the point of selecting the lightest Bosch and Metabo and put them at the lowest places? Both have much more powerful grinders which would be fighting at the top of the chart.
This is very common on American tool channels. There's not enough knowledge about tool lineups that are not heavily marketed like Dewalt, Milwaukee, Flex and so on.
@donalexey, the ones tested are found in our stores. We don't have the same tools as available in the EU, UK and AU markets. Sadly Bosch, Metabo DE and Makita are not as committed to the US market. The Bosch 18V-15, 8ah+ would have to be imported from EU, Metabo DE is not sold in stores here and ACME imports very little, once you place the order they import it. @engineer_alv it's not about knowledge, more like availability. It would be like me saying EU car channels never drive a Chevy C8 ZO6. Not all tools available in other markets are available in the US.
@@Tools-Tested They are sold in US. They called a little different although. Those are GWS 18V-10 and GWS 18V-13. 18V-45 and 18V-50 are also more powerful than the item you have tested. All those with standard core 8Ah battery will perform much better in the max power category.
Yeah the -10 and -13 are and will no doubt perform better. But the -15 is a step above the -13 which countries outside of the US have along with the tabless 8ah and an unrestricted 12ah.
Yup I would’ve liked to see how 36v Metabo Hpt grinder compares. It’s price is closer to high end m18 and Dewalt, you can get it from acme tools or Amazon. Lowe’s mostly only sells the 18v lineup
They are vibration readings, intensity at different frequencies and amount of movement. Some people like to see the readings but personally I feel they can be easily distorted because of the material. It’s a different story if the handle was metallic.
Flex is pretty impressive across the board - curious on its reliability tho as top brands definitely taper power for longevity. Curious if they will move from pouch cells to tabless over the next few years.
Yeah Flex overall is up with the top brands, I agree we don't really know the reliability yet. It will be interesting to see if the tabless will replace some of the pouch cell offerings. Im sure the tabless are a lot cheaper to make.
Kobalt and skil are the other two chevron brands, and skil is equally as new. Kobalt is really the only chevron brand that's been around, but they have a pretty solid reputation. Ego also had a good reputation, but that's ope only
I have had my Flex grinder since it came out and have used it pretty consistently. Right now I am working in Arizona where it has been 115 outside and of course it gets hot like everything else but it keeps truckin along. I also feel like it is the most comfortable grinder I have personally used. No complains from me
Sadly no, instrumentation is but the load is different. The drills are higher torque, so I use a partial brake vs here low torque and high speed so a brushless motor converted to a generator.
Flexvolt grinders test for sure! At least the dcg418 which is the 6" and the most common. If you wanna throw in the dcg440 7" and the dcg460 9" then go ahead too lol. They are all powerhouses I have them all
@parkerk7018 the 418 is my go to. The best combination of speed and torque for most tasks. Then id say the 460 for its cutting depth. The 440 id say is more of a luxury as its the same grinder as the 418 geared down for lower speed more torque
10:56 I'd rather see this chart using a 5Ah/90Wh 18650 pack as that's the pack that nearly every platform has, and it's the most common kit battery. This chart is more of a "who has the most powerful 6Ah battery"
Agreed it should be volume battery and max output. Volume battery being whatever the manufacturer sells with their kits, ie: 4-5ah standard output batteries
Yeah its tricky, because kits are changing to stacked L and 21700s here. Probably a kit chart wouldn't be a bad idea, issue is I still don't think it would be fair.
Correct, in the US we have this BS 12ah that only works on Profactor tools. Im about ready to cut the tab off that prevents the battery from being used on the standard line. Idk why bosch treats the US so differently.
These were all 20-24v with a bunch of different batteries. When he gets to testing the higher voltage grinders, maybe a chart will show if they are worth the extra dough.
You should test the metabo WPB 36 LTX BL 2400w equivalent or the 1500w equivalent and the Makita xgt 2nd gen, those 2 should be the highest performing and least vibrating tools.
Geez that Hart and other one sounded like an Emergency Test... piercing shriek. Ouch on the ears (guess they must have an ear plug product line also). That second one looked like a DeWalt, and that didn't sound good either.
The test results were flashing by pretty fast and was nearly impossible to pause them precisely and not have to back up and try again. Just to get a good look st what was going on. Tool porn.
@@Tools-Tested I don’t know if you can do this, but I have a very small TH-cam channel and if you gave me a shout out, that would be the coolest thing ever:)
Sounds like this just isn’t the channel for you, I will be testing more grinders this is literally the first one with 15 grinders. Last I checked TTC was testing 3 at a time from different levels so..
Because when you walk into Lowe’s this is what’s on the shelf. All of these are the models here in the US a consumer can walk in and buy. That being said this is the first video, larger models will be tested including the -15 which Bosch doesn’t sell in the US.
@dusanmilojevic3017 Actually the 12ah won't fit the 8N grinder and the majority of other bosch 18v tools here. The 8N is the common version sold here in the USA. Ask me how I know, I have the grinder and 12AH. So either your 12AH is different or well U just have all ProFactor tools?
@@flatplanecrank In Europe all Bosch batteries fits in every Bosch tools, procore (profactor i US) and old standard batteries .We also have more different capacity procore (profactor) batteries 4Ah,5,5Ah,6,3Ah,7Ah,8Ah and 12Ah.Also new 8Ah+ with higher output.ProFactor tools are called Biturbo in Europe and I have both (biturbo and standard) tools.
Yeah Bosch seems to view the US as a value play, we only have the 2ah,4ah,6ah (new this year),8 and our 12ah only works on Profactor. We also don't have the 4ah 12v. No idea when we will see the 8+ it isn't even on the Bosch US site.
Normally bosch is at the bottom, the adapter didn't cause any vibration which I was shocked by. That being said bosch rates this as a 8Amp grinder which would be roughly 900Watts. They do offer the Profacter line which I will test at some point, which will probably out perform most of these. Bosch seem to be at the bottom and then at the the top with the profactor line.

Where is the flexvolt grinder?
Soon, just didn’t have the $ for it and dcg460 at the time.
@ that’s okay! I can’t wait to see your video on it!!
No 60v dewalt?
Cause it would demolish the rest
that's a whole other size/weight class from a 4.5-5" class grinder.
Hope to in the next video, though 15 grinders was a good start.
These were all 20-24v with a bunch of different batteries. When he gets to testing the higher voltage grinders, maybe a chart will show if they are worth the extra dough.
@@Tools-Testedhopefully you can get the Gen 2 M18 6”, it is almost out, I have it on presale purchase. I want to see all 3 forge batteries.
You should test the metabo WPB 36 LTX BL 2400w equivalent or the 1500w equivalent and the Makita xgt 2nd gen, those 2 should be the highest performing and least vibrating tools.
Will do!
Geez that Hart and other one sounded like an Emergency Test... piercing shriek. Ouch on the ears (guess they must have an ear plug product line also). That second one looked like a DeWalt, and that didn't sound good either.
Yeah some are horrible sounding, I actually think the M18 was the worst, but had the lowest noticeable vibration....
The test results were flashing by pretty fast and was nearly impossible to pause them precisely and not have to back up and try again. Just to get a good look st what was going on. Tool porn.
My favourite grinder didn't win so I'm going to pretend this video doesn't exist.
lol
You should add in some Amazon options, some expensive ones and cheap ones
Will do! Thanks!
@@Tools-Tested be careful when you buy them. There are a bunch that are the exact same just a different color so make sure you get different ones.
@@Toolsareus yeah I seen that just taking a quick look.
@@Tools-Tested I don’t know if you can do this, but I have a very small TH-cam channel and if you gave me a shout out, that would be the coolest thing ever:)
Bought a charger 5amp battery and a grinder for 120 cmon how can you beat that
Again compare apples with aples, i can't see dewalt medium hard grinder vs bosch Weaver or metabo weak
Sounds like this just isn’t the channel for you, I will be testing more grinders this is literally the first one with 15 grinders. Last I checked TTC was testing 3 at a time from different levels so..
Ferrex all the way! Abuse it, get a new one - great warranty! Costs a fraction of the main maked
The best one is not in this list! the best one is Fein
Hopefully I can test one at some point.
Why this crappy Bosch model? Why not 13C?
Because when you walk into Lowe’s this is what’s on the shelf. All of these are the models here in the US a consumer can walk in and buy.
That being said this is the first video, larger models will be tested including the -15 which Bosch doesn’t sell in the US.
@@Tools-Tested OK, will be waiting for your next angle grinder test. Thanks
BTW Bosch 13C seems to be the same model as European 15C
BOSCH has been trash for decades now. Their Worcester Botch boilers are even worse!
All Bosch batteries goes on every Bosch tool and that’s entry level Bosch grinder.
Not the 12ah, it only works on the Pro tools, at least here in the US.
@@Tools-Tested That’s sucks.😁Also in Europe there are more Bosch tools and battery types.
Yeah Bosch seems to view the US as a value play, we only have the 2ah,4ah,6ah (new this year),8 and our 12ah only works on Profactor. We also don't have the 4ah 12v. No idea when we will see the 8+ it isn't even on the Bosch US site.
The adaptor must be messing with the bosch reading.
Ridgid
Flexvolt laughing in the corner 🤣
Cant wait to dyno it.
