Surfed The Lake For Once Just Like The Barnyard Days

Actually not trying to SUP in heavy winds for once lol. Since I moved closer to the beach in 2018 paddle boarding has become the dominant discipline in my water time.
When I lived an hour inland I had never even paddle boarded before. So when I did and got into wave riding I was hooked. However, it was surfing that originally called me to the water. In fact it helped me escape all sorts of things in my life. I grew up across the street from a river that flows to Lake Michigan. The problem for my young soul was it was 1 hour drive away from Lake Michigan. I bought my first john boat with lawn mowing money around 12 years old and I would drive up and down that river just to look at the wake behind my little old boat with that 6 horse Johnson. If I really think back I can remember dreaming about making it closer to the beach some day. Some times I am reminded with a smile thinking back to then. Knowing I made it within a few miles of the shore with a full quiver to ride from. Moving out here has really opened space for me to evolve into SUP surfing. It’s very challenging and rewarding to me with plenty of danger but sometimes it keeps me from surfing and I gotta remember to sharpen both swords! It was right before I turned 16 that I got my first surfboard. I put on a scuba wetsuit my uncle gave me and jumped into that river across the street. I paddled around on that flat water never knowing if life would unfold how I envisioned. Absolutely not lol but I’d been stoked to know this is it. Best wishes…
