Honestly, I dunno if the fatphobia was nearly as bad as the blatant racism and anti-semitism. Largely because she said that the other woman was 50 pounds heavier which, really, wouldn't mean a lot depending on their height and body shape difference (in terms of insult, anyway, as they *could* have a 30-50 lb difference), but it would impact alcohol intake which was the point. Especially since the woman who was called 50 lbs heavier was mocking her at first for not handling her drink well, to which she gave a back-handed reason to. You sound like a Chinese censor taking notes on everything you want removed. I don’t get how it makes you happy to see a depiction of exactly how people should act to offend no one at any time in entertainment. Media made for the purpose of enjoyment isn’t about representing how you think life should be. It’s supposed to be funny which doesn’t have to mean it’s offensive but it has to mean that nothing is off limits.
@@laptv2144 hey, idk if u know this but racial caricatures were also once used as entertainment n we know now that that’s offensive n fkd up. if we don’t look at the past and admit that some shit that happen or were said is fcked up, we would never evolve as a society.
@@rio6653 You kind of missed my point. I didn’t say there was anything wrong with critiquing this kind of content for being “mean”. I’m just saying that this same type of echo chamber with a general sentiment against anything that could offend anyone leads to worse media content overall. It’s literally just a repeat of conservative tv censorship that occurred in the 80’s and 90’s but from a liberal perspective this time. I want any content that people desire to make to be made if their is an audience for it and then people can choose to critique it and watch it or not. There is something so sinister about a show telling women that being sexy is important to get a role in a horror film where they’ll pretend to be k!lled. Like how female character’s pain voice clips get sexualized. If I think about it too much I might go insane.
I remember this show!! The epsisode where they have to cry on cue is burned into my memory because the coaches were literally like "what's the worst thing you can think of" and one contestant said it would be her sister dying and so they made her think of what it would like to grieve her sister.
That us literally what I just learned in my beginning acting class. Not out of the norm. As long as an actor doesn’t go as far as to hinder the performance.
@@dulcemariasolana1924 yeah, it’s really just a jarring- but effective- technique for showing emotion through song or acting. I’ve been directed to do that as well and have seen how it can help even if it makes you uncomfortable or sad.
man, the film industry is fucked. i had an experience in film school where they put directors in as actors and had us reenact ("reinterpret") a sex scene. anything anyone would do would set them off, whether there was choreography, or props. i worked with two partners and they were both great, but the profs were especially hard on me and broke down the scene as if i was doing everything wrong. they did this to literally everybody. it was honestly so painful to do, in spite of the students trying to work together to make the environment and scenes as safe and creative as possible. a lot of us were uncomfortable and one of the professors after the class discussed how the midterm was probably not a good idea, since there was also nothing were could have really done to prepare for it, unless you've taken that class before. just such a bad experience and exercise that i think went on for years and is one of the reasons that caused quite a few ppl to leave the program. including myself. glad i got out of it for now tbh
I watched this on TV when it aired. Not the entire thing, I never found out who won, but I remember thinking "golly this is a lot of effort for Saw SIX"
The entire acting scene with the fruit was very odd when you consider the fact that Saw was very much unsexy. I remember zero sexy moments. Absolutely zero.
It would’ve been funny if one of the girls just didn’t run away when that guy came out and wasn’t scared of him at all and pretended not to even notice him until he eventually lowered his head in shame and walked off looking all sad and defeated.

Cody, i wanna tell you this from the bottom of my heart. Your videos mean alot to me and because of my mental health struggles i rarely find comfort and enjoyment in things, but every time i see you have uploaded i smile and i feel that comfort and happiness. So um basically i wanted to thank you for making videos and like in a non-direct way, being there for me. So yea, thank you so much, Cody :)
It's obvious Cody's never seen a cheesy horror film from his reaction of the sexual lines they had to say. No bad horror movie is complete without an unnecessary sex scene 🤣
Exactly, in the 00s especially, there were all these unnecessary zoom ins, girls getting sprayed with something and running around in a wet t shirt, slow motion bouncing boob runs, sex scene in the woods, someone losing their virginity, cringey "seductive" one liners. It was awful and gross but this show was pretty fitting for that time unfortunately.
As an emo/scene kid of the 2000s this show was my jam 😂😂 so happy Cody found it! I loved it so much I still have the whole series saved in a playlist on here hahahha Also it's so funny when you come across these actresses in small roles they've done in big films, I notice them instantly lol
Holy shit same!! I watched both season of the show as a teen and then rewatched in quarantine to see if they were as crazy as I remembered. They were. (Obviously)
But wait this would actually make for a good horror movie concept!! A bunch of actors on an acting retreat to audition for a horror movie but it actually turns into real horror
2:50 Cody I hate to be the one to tell you this, but there are actually a LOT of people (both women and men) who simp for the slashers in horror movies
The guy who said "Shannon I've been reviewing your record" is also Sean Gunn, James' brother, who plays The Weasel in the new Suicide Squad. 10/10 i love it
I actually hate when acting teachers do that kind of crap. There is no reason to make someone fake an orgasma in front of an acting class except to embarrass the student of stroke the teachers ego.
Exactly! Sure, many aspects of performance can be uncomfortable and actors have to learn to do potentially embarrassing or vulnerable things with confidence because as my old director used to say “you only look stupid if you’re afraid of looking stupid”. But obviously- especially at an introductory level - there’s no need to humiliate people and if they’re not comfortable in a group yet then of course they’ll be “afraid of looking stupid” if you put them on the spot to fake an orgasm. I’ve found theater and improv environments much more productive when they focus on making everyone feel relaxed and accepted in the group so there’s no fear of looking stupid or failing. It’s actually very easy to make people feel comfortable instead of humiliated even if you’re doing exercises like that. One of our local community theater troupes puts on a production of the rocky horror picture show every October, and it’s an adults only interactive screening with several opportunities for people to come on stage with the actors/emcee and participate in games or challenges in front of the rest of the audience. At the beginning my friend and I went up and everyone had to pass a dildo around in a circle while gripping it between their legs. The second time we went up we had to put paper bags over our heads and do a strip tease. The time we didn’t go up they had the people improvise an impression of a random animal orgasming (like a dolphin or mouse) and nobody felt awkward or humiliated because of the positive atmosphere. Point is, potentially embarrassing things can be done in a way that doesn’t embarrass anyone and if acting instructors are setting things up so that participants feel embarrassed that’s either because they’re not good enough to create a comfortable nonjudgmental environment or because they like forcing people to be uncomfortable for entertainment
I beg you to watch the show “Legally Blonde: The Musical - The Search for Elle Woods”. It’s a bizarre early 2000’s show where the winner got to be Elle Woods on broadway… and the prize for the winners of the daily challenges were getting to hang out with cast members of the musical😭

So yeah, it's still absolutely there, but honestly a 50 lbs difference is not always indicative of "fatness", so I guess there's that but eh.
And the anti-semitism and racism lines were particularly nasty in comparison. Like…good lord. ;_;
@@slsthewriter1299 I don't think anyone was comparing and saying which one was worse, nor were they saying that fatphobia and racism/anti-semitism are on the same level (though I think it's counter productive to compare bigotry/trauma), just that they're all awful bigoted things that were said within a few minutes of each other
@@slsthewriter1299 plus if the person already struggled with weight or eating (which is particularly common in Hollywood) 50lbs might seem like the end of the world

@@laptv2144 boomers don’t have a say. Go cry
The current state of the entertainment industry is not efficient or capitalistic in that movies/shows that could be made are not because of someone’s moralist opinion, just as was the case in the 80’s.

man, the film industry is fucked. i had an experience in film school where they put directors in as actors and had us reenact ("reinterpret") a sex scene. anything anyone would do would set them off, whether there was choreography, or props. i worked with two partners and they were both great, but the profs were especially hard on me and broke down the scene as if i was doing everything wrong. they did this to literally everybody. it was honestly so painful to do, in spite of the students trying to work together to make the environment and scenes as safe and creative as possible. a lot of us were uncomfortable and one of the professors after the class discussed how the midterm was probably not a good idea, since there was also nothing were could have really done to prepare for it, unless you've taken that class before. just such a bad experience and exercise that i think went on for years and is one of the reasons that caused quite a few ppl to leave the program. including myself. glad i got out of it for now tbh
The whole exercise seems like a humiliation fetish

Point is, potentially embarrassing things can be done in a way that doesn’t embarrass anyone and if acting instructors are setting things up so that participants feel embarrassed that’s either because they’re not good enough to create a comfortable nonjudgmental environment or because they like forcing people to be uncomfortable for entertainment
i feel like all these actors should make there own saw movie and see who wins
I beg you to watch the show “Legally Blonde: The Musical - The Search for Elle Woods”. It’s a bizarre early 2000’s show where the winner got to be Elle Woods on broadway… and the prize for the winners of the daily challenges were getting to hang out with cast members of the musical😭
