    My tip: pick up your ukulele at least 5 times a day and work on one barre chord. Relax your hand! Do this every day until you master that chord then move on to the next barre chord you want to learn.

    Thumb - drop + back - check
    Finger - edge + side - check
    Elbow - in + tucked - check
    Finger straight and close to fret wire - check
    Do the strings ring cleanly - check
    If not repeat these steps - check
    Thanks Ms B 💕🐢

    A tip I'd share from actually one of Miss B's old video is that take a song which has one chord you do not know but others you do, so with practise you're learning to play that one chord and perfecting the others.

    Ms. B, I am loving the daily vids! The moment I finish all my homework, I rush to my gig bag, get my uke, and put on one of your vids. It's really relaxing! Barre chords are a bit tricky for me, I am 11 and my fingers aren't that strong to hold a full barre chord. This video really helped! Love from California! 💙🦋

    I just picked my ukulele up to get serious about learning it after having it for 9 years (in my 40s no less... No real musical background) and I happened across one of your old beginner lessons and I have to say you have helped me make more progress in 4 days than I made in the previous 9 years! (Of mostly ignoring it, but still I DID try in that first year) So, thank you. I adore your lessons and you have a lovely way about you.

    Thank you for this Bernadette!!! I started learning barre chords because of you! 🤗💛😘 But honestly I detested it so much on day 1 last year! 🙃🤪 If I had a tip it would be to start learning early and practice it even if you don't sound great. I kept getting muted sounds for a long time. It will be painful too in the beginning (mine was excruciating because of my carpal tunnel) but don't give up. It will get better in time. I took me very long to learn it and I'm still practicing after a year! 😂 Just listen to Bernadette and do what she says! You'll get it eventually...👍👍😃 I tell that to myself every single day! 😁😁 Now time to practice! Thanks again B!!!! 😘😃👋

    Thanks for the helpful tips, Ms B. As someone who’s been playing the uke for a few months now, I can do some barre chords, but switching to them while playing is a whole different story. But I believe the key here is to keep practising and that’s what I’m gonna do.

    Hi Miss B, thanks for the excellent tips, really helpful. I have another one: in the beginning playing barcords, it can help to put your middle finger on top. Does not always work, but can be especially convenient when you have to maintain the chords for a longer time.

    One of my biggest struggles with barre chords is switching between barre chords and regular chords. Transitioning from regular to barre, I find it’s hard to get the right pressure and switching from barre chords to regular or just switching between barre chords, I find the ukulele slips and slides 😩

    How do you fix the thumb over the neck of the uke? I tend to do this when playing regular open chords and stuff too. It’s comfortable for me. Given I have big bass guitarist hands. I tried putting my thumb in the middle of the neck to play but it feels so awkward and uncomfortable. I can’t play anything that way.
    Anyway, love your videos and hope you can give some advice.

I feel like barring first fret is soooo hard, I always loose control in point finger while adding curved fingers to cord.

    Im a guy with big hands, and when I drop my thumb down I drop the uke. It usually rests on the part of my hand between my thumb and my index finger but when i drop my thumb down it has nothing to rest on. Can someone help?

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Case!
      Where is the ukulele resting? Is it on your chest, belly, leg, or on a strap?

    • @caseboyd5364
      @caseboyd5364 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mostly play sitting down, so my leg.

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, your right hand should help the ukulele stay in place so that you can make chord switches without dropping the ukulele. If you’re pretty new to the instrument, don’t worry. This is something that develops with more time. If you’d like to show me what it looks like when you hold the uke, we have a Facebook group called Ukelandia. You can share your pics of videos there and we can help you!

    • @caseboyd5364
      @caseboyd5364 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't actually drop the uke, but if I drop my thumb down, when I lift my fingers off to change chords it falls back to the part of my hand between my thumb and index finger.

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Instead of using the inner part between thumb and index, I usually use the side of my index finger for the ukulele to rest while I switch chords.
