So glad you're doing these in combination with the bundle on DMs Guild. These are so helpful. I'm using these to get ready to run it once our current campaign ends. Thanks so much!
It is such a shame more people haven't seen these videos. Thank you SO MUCH for really going deep and granular on advice in how to take this amazing setting/campaign and smooth it out to really make it shine even more.
Thanks for the video. We are already deep in Chapter 1 but the way you integrate the Cold Killer starting quest is a really clever idea. All the foreshadowing makes a lot of sense. I am adapting it for my campaign.
I didn't go with any of the starting quests, but I have used Sephek a whole lot in the RotFM campaign I'm running now. Within the first three sessions, I had introduced the party to the murder mystery - they were staying the night in Bryn Shander, as a murder happened. It took them a good while (a whole year in real time!!!) to make a plan to confront Sephek. They fought him at level 5 - it was a three hour combat. I also buffed him up a lot. But thet slew him. I described that his body turned into snow and got flewn away by the wind. I plan on bringing him back in a different form - just like Auril. In my campaign, he is the Frostmaidens general. He will probably join her in the final battle!
How you get the quest cold weather killer is bonkers. Some guys just like “hey! Random adventurer. I’ve taken it into my hands to track down a murderer. I know exactly who he is. In fact I followed him for 10 days then came back here to seek out a random group of people like yourselves to track him down! If you’re curious I also know all of his motivations. Good luck.”
Does this mean you skip Lonelywood? I feel like hinting that the druids convinced the speakers to do the human sacrifices but then structuring the adventure in a way they never go to lonelywood might not be best. Though to be honest this could be due to my lack of understanding of the route presented in the video, I apologize in advance if I misunderstood something
I wouldn't skip Lonelywood. In the next couple of videos, my suggestion is to hint at Lonelywood in Bremen and Termalaine. Lonelywood is one of the better towns in my book, so I'd definitely try to steer the players there, if possible! :) No apologies necessary, thanks for taking the time to comment! :)
Years later I'm starting to run this and your advice is still helpful and pertinent. Thanks for your work!
I'm very late to the party, I'm also very, very thankful for these videos. Thank you immensely!
