I open 2 boxes of 22/23 UD Series 2 in hopes of pulling a Wyatt Johnston or Juraj Slafkovsky YG Rookie card. 8 cards per pack 24 packs per box.

Against my better instincts I had another go at this on epack at $5+ USD per pack. Hit Slaf with my first 3 pack order and Wyatt with the next 2 pack order. Cue in the rack. These boxes go for a hostile $150AUD at my LCS in Australia which is $90USD and an easy pass given how top heavy the checklist is. At $50-$60 USD it's decent value. I think the problem is that like all UD hockey products since 2020-21 there is so much of it that there is a hard ceiling on these base YG's. Wyatt base YG will probably never get to $100USD because there are a ton of them out there. Laffy's base YG has barely moved despite a break out season and great playoff performances so far. When series 2 came out last year I pulled a clear cut Wyatt Johnston and sent it to beckett. It graded a gold label 10, and on the way back to me, it got lost or stolen at the distribution facility in my hometown. It still kills me to think how much that card would be worth today. Haven't dealt with beckett since
I'm surprised those boxes didn't jump because of Johnston. It happened last year with Thompson and Robertson with 17-18 and 20-21 Series 1. You won that break.
It's still stupid opening the wax. Robertson YG sells for 40USD max which is less than half the cost of the box. The chances of hitting an exclusive or High Gloss are stupid so that should not even be a factor. You may as well buy the retail box if you're hunting base YG.
@@1stBowman For 22-23, I bet. Nothing wrong with hobby if you can find it roughly at the same price as retail but some of the premiums are insane.
haha. I love that Kuzmenko! Sold a PSA 10 version of it for $100 early on. One of the very few times a card went down in price after I sold it.

The hockey card market is do odd. Why are base rookies worth more than insert rookies? Only in hockey are they not considered “rookie cards” it’s always been that way

WyJo turning out so good is a real mixed bag for me. I'm a Stars fan so it's great on that level, and I got myself his Young Guns back when they were about 10-15 dollars. I kinda hung fire on getting his Future Watch though and now they're headed to the moon so guess I missed that boat!
One thing's for sure: I ain't making the same mistake with Stankoven.
Seems the quality of the cards being good this series.

Just got 2 hobby boxes of these and in one I pulled a slafkovsky and the other I pulled a Johnston. Boxes I got were $120, I'd like to know were to get them at $68 a box.
And I thought I was smart last year jumping at a 4-for-3 special which turned out to 97.50 each.

I've bought a hobby box, 2 blasters, 2 tins. Loads of 4th line oiler YGs, loads of lunchbox heroes inserts and City name inserts, no Slaf, no Wyatt.
Crazy that a Slafkovsky GM10 young guns is worth the same as a Kopitar.

Thus further solidifying my case... If you had bought 23-24 series 2 via preorder for $200 you still got screwed, as Bedard YG's are only 1.7 per case.

You can be guaranteed that the price has gone up from $50 USD bc of Johnston. DA is $64.95 and Steel City is $59.99, both in USD. If you're close to the border where you can get them at this price without having to have them shipped, it's still a really good price but if you're getting it shipped, the cost of shipping and dues may not be worth it compared to 99.99 CAD

I don’t doubt the accuracy but where the hell do these prices come from. My LCS had artifacts on sale for 3x the price he paid. $70 CAD for this? No chance in Vancouver. Retail box MAYBE but even the worst year of extended is still like $70 for hobby and that’s like a Boxing Day price with no return value inside.
